I was initially skeptical of a mobile car service, but after working with Cesar I don't see myself doing it any other way from now on! Back in my day, we used to just sit in some godawful waiting room, drinking Folger's coffee brewed like 45 years ago, and the only entertainment was listening to sob stories from the other customers who occasionally wandered in. You would wait around in this purgatory for hours. Finally, the Guinness World Record holder for dirtiest hands possible would call you by your cars name. Mechanic: "Puke Green AMC Gremlin?" Me: "Thats me!" Mechanic: "Your breaks are shot. We can't let you drive off the lot like this, you're liable to kill somebody. We're gonna have to replace the entire car." Mechanic: "...Twice" Me: "Ok. How much?" It was a racket. And you knew it was a racket. And he knew, that you knew it was a racket. But every mechanic in town was in on the game. So two days later - after paying four times what your car was worth you would drive off and the first time you had to really use your new brakes you would notice how bad they were. I'm not sure what brake pads are made of, but I assume the low-cost aftermarket variety are just rusted nails rubber-banded together or something. --- Anyway, this time around I signed up for a new dystopian future where I text someone, they provide me a reasonable quote, and then promise to show up and do a brake replacement on my car two days later, on a saturday. And they are gonna do it at my house, while I lounge around in a unicorn onesie and drink coffee-flavored coffee, probably spiked with bourbon. I got a few quotes actually, these guys were the cheapest...by almost half...and had better reviews. The guy was there in the window they gave me. He was done in maybe 45 minutes. I almost wanted him to upsell me on some bullshit because I'm a little concerned about the financial viability of this business but he didn't even try. As a matter of fact he just entirely skipped the step where he refers to my car as a death trap and makes up components that need to be replaced and tells me I should have replaced my brakes 2 years ago like he's my dad of something. And, I'm no expert on pads but the ones he used feel soft like the fancy ones you pay a thousand bucks for at the dealership. I kinda like the future. read more
