I love Moby Dick! My favorite is their grilled swordfish, their beef , lamb and chicken too. I must say they give you lots of rice and the meat portion got smaller unless you order the combo platter. It is pricey for fast food but it's delicious. I try to make it there every couple of months if I'm craving for kabob. read more

I've been to this place multiple times. I almost always have the combo II (chicken and beef). The chicken breast is moist and tastes like it's right off the grill. You get a nice grill taste and some lemon flavor. It's never dry. The Ground beef (kubideh) roll is tasty as well. This is served over white rice with some tomato halves. The food always tastes fresh and like it's made to order. You also get a large piece of bread with the order. I'm always happy with the taste of the food and the portions are large. This is a nice restaurant if you want a break from the typical fast food or pizza places. read more

I really enjoyed the kabobs last night, I got a combo with ground chicken and ground beef. It was very flavorful and the rice with butter was good. The customer service wasn't the greatest but he got the job done. My issue was it wasn't super busy for 730pm on a Monday night and the 2 meals we ordered took about 30 minutes, I was with my family so we had nice conversation while waiting but 30 min is a little too long for a casual dining place like this. read more

Decided to split a meal with a friend before watching a movie. We got the combo meal (chicken and lamb with rice) - there wasn't enough flavour in either of meats, which was disappointing. Worst kabob I've ever had. Grill Kabab beats this place by a landslide. It took the, forever to bring my order and the meat?? Freaking cold and under-done! This happened twice. Full disclosure: In another review I had written earlier in the year, I wasn't that impressed with the Moby Dick at the Fairfax Town Center (I should probably give them another chance). Tasty and Wholesome I often get the chicken kabab platter, "Moby's Joojeh". It comes with delicious mild spiced rice; bit of "Greek"salad with nice lemony o&v dressing; savory grilled chicken breast chunks; a great yogurt dressing for over the chicken and their stone oven cooked pita. A meal full of flavor, low in fat, totally satisfying. Can even go into 2 meals if you stash some away for later. The pita bread does not hold though. We go to the Moby Dick in McLean and in Kingstown, both are good, and both busy so you know it is all fresh. This is definitely casual; you order and pay at the counter, then pick it up and either go to a table & get your own table ware, or take away. I like BOTH stores but I think the cooking in Kingstown is better: the chicken is consistently more tender, the rice even more flavorful. The Kingstown store is larger and easier to park and to dine in. Kingstowne Center is a lively shopping center. Both have all cultures of folks enjoying it. The McLean store is very small, in McLean village proper, on Old Dominion, near Dolley Madison Blvd.(rt.123), crazy to park in, (I usually take out), but I don't let any of that hinder me! So try them both. They have a great barley soup occasionally which is a must, even if only to take home for later. The daily lunch specials are different from the regular menu and surely worth a try. There are some other interesting looking items on the menu but I have my favorites that are hard to stray from. I have never tried the vegetarian dishes, but here you can get a delicious meal, have plenty, and not feel loaded down, battered or guilty. It is neither cheap nor expensive; it is good quality. My first time and last time. I thought it was a good sign that the place was packed. The cashier helped me find what I was wanted. I placed an order to go took my number and stood to the crowded side. I waited and waited and waited. It seemed that people who order in after me were being served first. I thought it was just my imagination, but I observed customers ordering the same thing I got, then they were called back up and served, numbers after mine. I then inquired about my order and was told it was coming. The nice attitudes were not so nice anymore. I finally got my food, after more orders were given out, but had to go home to eat it because I didn't know I needed to pick up my plasticware, I couldn't tell because people were in the way of where I guess the forks were. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I called the police on the delivery guy because he got into a yelling match with me. I literally had to yell at him because he refused to leave from my building. Compare to other kabob places, this kabob is not that good. The rice is very dry so are the meats. Very little flavor. The price is high and the food is not good. read more

I feel like the flavors a have changed a bit over the years, as well as the portions. I had chicken and beef super combo II with half rice, half salad. I also got a salad sharazi. The salad sharazi was bland, with huge chunks of onion. Previously everything was diced pretty symmetrically and delicious. The chicken and beef were cooked to perfection and the rice delicious. The salad portion was mostly onions and very bitter (iceberg possibly?) lettuce. As always, the bread was on point. Will be back, just not as often. read more

The food is generally good but simple enough that it is on the high side for what it is worth. What's wrong with the spot is that the service is lacking especially the ordering process. For example, ordering the chicken with bone in constantly gets messed up even clearly after asking if they have it available. There is history in prior orders of mine being taken incorrectly as well. I don't want to cause a big scene because the food is generally simple so it doesn't really matter but it is frustrating because I'm not receiving what I asked for. The people taking the order, not to be discriminating but especially the girls, are hard of hearing or lacking focus when taking the order. It's happened on more than one occasion and warrants caution to go again to avoid frustration. read more

Got the kubbideh, chicken and lamb & swordfish kabobs. Bread was delicious, did not get the rice. Chicken kabob sandwich is a favorite and yogurt sauce comes with the meal. Very reasonable prices - much better than kabob palace and you can actually find parking with no problem to eat here. Line goes very fast as they often have several cashiers. All kabobs were good, swordfish probably least favorite. Chicken probably the most delicious for me. read more

The food wasn't even middle of the road for me. It was below average. The staff was friendly, and the space is nice and large. The chicken and pork that my girlfriend and I had was very bland, dry and the rice was overcooked. Food was very, very salty also. I love kabob, but this place just doesn't have it.. I've got an iron stomach, but I had a terrible stomach ache afterwords. I'd rather call ahead and drive out to Kabob Palace in Arlington which is about 10 minutes away. read more

We went there before going to see movie and found the food to be good if a little expensive -- but there was enough in each plate for two meals so all things considered the price worked out pretty well. My wife and I ate here once. We expected a lot more from this place and will not be back. The pita was good. We tried the chicken, beef, lamb, and an eggplant dip. All were flavorless and overpriced for the portion received. The staff was pleasant enough, but was slow to clean the clearly messy dining area. The bathroom was clean-ish at best. This place is great. The staff is friendly, and you can call ahead and pick up. The food usually takes about 10 minutes to make, so call ahead for take out is a great option. The food is good, but it can be hit or miss. You have to order the right things. I get the Joojeh platter (pretty much once a week) and it has a ton of chicken (juicy, never dry), a large salad, rice, and a side of pita bread. However, my husband got a platter that was about three cups of rice, a small grilled tomato, and a small portion of ground beef. He has since switched to the Combo 2 and hasn't looked back since. It can be a little pricey ($20 for two people) but totally worth getting something different in Kingstowne. read more

pita wrap ("sandwich") portions are h u g e - lots of food for $7. i got a falafel wrap and, while filling, it was definitely subpar. the falafel was weirdly bread-like in texture, dry/crumbly; i've had far better at v falafel (p street) and amphora. i didn't walk out hungry, but i wouldn't come back. tzatziki sauce went to waste - didn't think to ask if i could sub in hummus. oh well. read more

I came here on a Friday night for dinner and I'd say the food was pretty delicious. Before your meal is ready, they give you pita bread and some sort of yogurt I guess to mix it in with as an appetizer. I ordered the fish kabob with the spinach salad. The food was actually pretty good. Couple of things I was not satisfied with. One, the portion size of the meal didn't seem like what it should have been. It was, in my opinion, a small sized dinner. Second, the price is too much for the small portion of the meal. If it's going to be costly, at least they should give more food to go along with it. In this case, I'd probably prefer to go to a full scale restaraunt, pay maybe a little more, but get more to eat for my money's worth. read more

The thing that has impressed me most on several visits to this Moby Dick's is how well the meat is grilled. Every time I've been there, it's been perfect. (Note: you have to eat well-grilled meat as soon as you get it, you can't expect it to be good if you put it in an aluminum container and let it sit in its own steam and then cool for the time it takes to drive home.) We've ordered the combos and family platters for our group of four or five people, and the lamb, beef, and chicken have always been perfect: cooked to doneness, but still juicy, flavorful, and well spiced. The rice, bread, and sides are also good. Overall, with the food being quite tasty and in good quantity, the prices reasonable, the place clean, I find this to be one of my favorites in its category. read more

I ordered a large order from Moby dick at Kingstown! 1. The manager called me about half an hour before the delivery time to retake the order which was placed at least five days earlier! 2. The delivery man who was at least forty minutes late had no communication with the restaurant or the customer! 3. The meat skewers were a lot less than what I ordered!! I did not have the chance to count the pieces but the pictures I took can testify!!! 4. The manager did not want to take any responsibility for any of the above!!! If I ever order again from this place. I would pick up and not depend on their delivery system, and would literally count the food pieces!!! read more

I have been going to this place for a few years and the food has been ok, but the service not so good. Rude Fresh of the boat foreigners who are employed there do not understand the concept of service. The last time I was there there was a new order taker ( cashier ) with bad English who was chatting on his cell phone while taking my order. Totally unacceptable. This is easily the best Persian food in the area. It typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get my food after I order it. Koubideh and Chenjeh kabobs with rice is my go-to. The staff is super friendly and accomodating. I have yet to have any type of issue here out of the about 20 times I've eaten here this year. read more

Moby's food is always on point, however the staff here is incompetent. Whether I order over the phone or in person they always find a way to mess up my order. There's one lady specifically who is difficult to communicate with. Then she doesn't apologize for messing your order up, she'll blame it on you. maybe i'm no kabob expert, but i'd have to disagree with some of the reviews below. i heart moby dick's. granted, prices are a bit steep, but their portions are huge: for about 20 bucks, i can get a moby's super combo (chicken and beef), a mountain of rice (topped with buttery yummy goodness), bread, and two drinks. one dish for 2.5 people (i count my kid as 1/2 a person haha).. not too shabby! read more
