We have been here before, but I just wanted to share my experience from this weekend. We ate here on Friday, and I was really disappointed with the temperature inside of the restaurant. There is NO seating if there is a wait, and it was SO HOT inside of the restaurant. I understand that it is over 100 degrees outside, but restaurants are normally overly cold. I am very pregnant, and did not have a place to sit to wait for a table, again as there is NO seating to wait. The curtains were not closed, so the heat also kept coming through the windows where you have to stand waiting. A nice hostess offered me a menu to use as a fan, and they were sweating as well. We then were seated at the table very closest to the entry door, so still no relief from the heat. It is a small enough restaurant that it should be cool in there. Delicious! We ordered a short rib bowl and a pork carnitas bowl with added guacamole. The bowls were quite substantial, and the meats were delicious - possibly the best carnitas I've tasted. All the other fixings were fresh and tasty, particularly the side of salsa that came with each bowl. We also ordered a prickly pear Paloma from the cocktail menu, which said it was 2-3 drinks, but my wife drank the whole thing and was very happy! :) The online ordering and pickup were very efficient. I was disappointed in the restaurant. The guacamole was very good, but the tacos were very small and not worth the money. $10 margaritas were all ice. When I asked the waitress to make my next one without ice, she said "I can do that but it won't be as full". Won't be going back. read more

It is so great to finally have some amazing Mexican food nearby! My husband and I have come here twice so far, once for dinner and then for brunch on Mother's day. I'm Mexican and therefore pretty picky and let me tell you, their sauces are genuine and delicious. Red, green, mole - you can't go wrong. Aldo, one of the owners, also stopped by our table and chatted with us for a while. Was nice to hear how excited he was about his business and future plans for the restaurant. I went to the new Mochilero Kitchen restaurant in Scottsdale, and I was not impressed. The server was great the food was cold and tasteless. The enchiladas were cold, stone cold, and the cheese in the cheese enchiladas was cold and hard. It was hard to cut the tortillas and the cheese, even with the knife. The cheese enchiladas tasted like something that was frozen and "overcooked" in a microwave. I expected much better food for those prices. When these issues were brought the attention of the server, he tried to make things right. But when the food was returned to the kitchen, they did nothing to fix the issue. Meanwhile the owner, who was present, did nothing to correct the poor food preparation issue either. I do not recommend spending your money at Mochilero Kitchen, at least not the one in Scottsdale at FLW and Thompson Peak. read more

Walked in beautiful little restaurant. Wait about 5 or so minutes... after sitting at the bar no one. Managers going over their menu a few tables away. No one. It smelt great the menu looked amazing but why would I want to spend my money here. On our way out there server tried to save the day but we were already gone. We especially like the taco plates/combo and while chips and salsa aren't included with dinner, they are worth the extra add-on. Finally we got a restaurant that serves Amazing food near us!!!!! Good Restaurants are hard to find near us off of Happy Valley and 67th Ave. We tried Mochilero for the first time today and this is absolutely the best food I've had in the north valley since I moved here 15 years ago. We have been waiting for some good restaurants to come up this way!!!! Thank You Mochilero for the delicious food and good atmosphere! I had their three plate taco - Carne Asada taco, Papa Brava potato taco, Roasted mushroom taco and black beans.... Five Stars PLUS to the chefs!!!!! I also had a Blackberry Margarita- It was the Best margarita that I've had in a VERY Long time!!! This is a little higher priced than some restaurants around us, but you get what you pay for! Gave this place a second chance was very happy! Margaritas and guacamole were just as good as the first time and the food was nice and hot as well. Ordered the short rib enchiladas and they were delicious. Their red sauce tastes slightly like mole to me which I sometimes enjoy, just have to be in the mood for it. Black beans were great, I stayed away from the olive ridden Vera Cruz rice this time around lol! My friend got 3 tacos and she said they were all delicious. She even got a vegetarian taco which we were skeptical about but she said it was very filling and tasty. Came early in the afternoon and we were the only ones sitting inside. Sat at the bar and got great service. I would say this place should be avoided at prime dinner time on the weekends as that is when the food was cold and service less attentive. A bit expensive however the food is delicious and tastes great. We were looking for someplace new to try and found this place a bit outta own normal area and we gave it a go. Got a call by a staff member more than a week after eating there claiming that I never paid my bill. I looked in my credit card statement and saw that I had indeed paid the bill. Good tasting food - and I'm sure the experience would have been different had I experienced the ambiance. Also relatively expensive compared to portions. Absolutely yummy! Have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered. I have tried everything on one menu at least once since it opened. Spicy margarita is delish and my beverage of choice! Plantains and guacamole great starter. I will always complain there is not enough guacamole no matter where I go but that's just me! First time at Mochilero and I have to tell you ! Customer service was Awesome. My husband and I got to try their enchiladas red sauce and Yummy !!! Plenty of food. Something that amazed me was that they had they wine from my home state in Mexico very difficult wine to find. We will be back to try their tequila selection and their specials. We have been a few times now, and I have had the short rib enchiladas multiple times and my wife has ordered the tacos prior as well and they have always been very good. We ordered a taco trio and the tacos were very salty and my burrito meat was super fatty, tasted odd, and every bite I took I would pull a complete piece of steak out of the burrito. Not sure if the cooking staff is different, but we were fairly disappointed. Started with chips and queso. That was ok. No regular tea only fufu tea. Rice was so bland had no taste at all. Red sauce on enchiladas tasted like canned sauce. Our dinner last night was fantastic! Mochilero margaritas were delicious! Shrimp ceviche appetizer was awesome. Shrimp diablo tacos were hot but soooo good! Fish tacos were incredible too!
