I've been here twice now. It's a very nice, upscale Mexican place, but casual. It's a little bit pricey, but the food and service are very good. They don't offer free chips and salsa which is unusual for a Mexican place in Arizona, however their salsa is excellent! I had their version of Chile Relleno. It was different but quite good. It was on the lunch menu and it was a little bit small, but really tasty. On my second visit, I had the Short Rib Chile Negro bowl. Also very good. Cool place with a nice ambiance. For 10am on Sunday, it was super slow--both with customers and service. I wanted to love the queso dip but it was kind of bland in flavor and slightly grainy. It also wasn't very warm. The chilaquiles were ulta soggy but the eggs were very warm, almost as though the chips part was assembled and sat for several minutes while they waited for the egg to cook. I wouldn't order those items again, but I'd maybe try something else should I return. The service was friendly when they were around but mostly the staff talked amongst themselves rather than attending to the few customers they had. This place is normally awesome. We came last night for my BFs birthday and service was horrible sitting at the bar. She forgot to put our app order in, then took 40min to get our food order. My food came out cold we were never checked on. And to end the night she tried to charge us extra for drinks we didn't get. I asked for a receipt and she never came back. Recently moved to the area and had noticed the parking lot always packed (although it does share with other businesses), and looked up the menu to find many yummy sounding dishes. Today we finally made it in and SO glad we did! On Saturdays and Sundays they also have an awesome brunch menu, as well as the standard menu. With 4 of us dining, we all got something different and were all VERY pleased. Some highlights were the Molé sauce, the birria (beyond good), the giant breakfast burrito, the unique twist on the benedict and the flavorful salsa. Another highlight was the EXCELLENT and friendly service provided by Ethan. We will be regulars for sure; great food (all made in-house with fresh ingredients), awesome service and fair prices...we are hooked!! read more

Beyond delicious. Drinks are craft-made and every ingredient can be tasted. The MOLE!! Do not skip out on their mole, it has depth! Recommended drinks: the entire mezcal old fashioned menu. PERIOD. We tried 3 out of the 4 and they were all 10/10. My personal favorite was the BARREL-AGED MEXICO CITY but that's just what my palette preferred. They were all tasty and well-balanced. Also, the Oaxacan Smoked Margarita gets an honorable mention. Don't pass on it. Recommended food dishes: the PAPAS PEQUENAS. These aren't just your average roasted potato. The seasoning is perfect, the cook is perfect and the portion is good. We ordered a half-size and it was enough for two. CLASSIC MOLE ENCHILADAS. As mentioned above, just order them. You won't be sorry. SHORT RIB ENCHILADAS. Perfect. The short rib is delicious outside of the enchilada and then when you take the entire bite of the complete dish, it's a symphony of flavors. Highly recommend. Kids menu is also SOLID and highly affordable. We took half of our food back to the resort because the portions are pretty hefty. Believe me, this food is even outstanding the next day, as leftovers. This location is pretty convenient to most Peoria areas, as we were staying at the Cibola Vista nearby and this was only a 5-minute drive from us. I've now both locations and the food is really great. The Scottsdale location had recently opened when we dined and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and accommodating; he mixed us off-menu mezcal pineapple "margaritas" which did not disappoint. We shared a couple of appetizers: the Carintas Flautas (really good, but the ends were burnt due to over cooking) , the guacamole with plantains (AMAZING), and the mole enchiladas. Always looking for a good place for lunch and Mochilero Kitchen was an unexpected find. It is not that visible from the street because of the tree in front of it but fortunately they have their name in lit in bright yellow. We were pleasantly greeted and seated promptly in very comfortable, thick cushioned chairs. They also have banquet seating as well. Our server was happy to answer my questions about a couple of items on the menu. My usual go to is Fajitas. They did not have them on the menu but there were other interesting items to choose from. I decided on Taco's since there was a wide variety. You had a choice of three. I choose the Shrimp, Beer battered fish and Short Rib. It would be hard to say which was my favorite since all three were so good. It came with rice and a choice of red or black beans. They offered a special of Taco Tuesday which I will go back for but I do want to try some of the other selections. I highly recommend you give them a try! read more

I will say I've gone here twice now. Once was to-go & I ordered ceviche. Definitely not the kinda ceviche I enjoy, it had a Clamato flavor and I like mine just natural juices. I did get the short rib bowl & it was AMAZING! The it was a perfectly separated bowl with black beans, rice, meat, pico, lettuce, and cotija cheese. The short rib is juice, and full of good flavor. The pico was fresh and everything in the bowl mixed well together. I also got a bowl of guac with half chips and half plaint chips which I highly recommend plantain chips. It's hard to find good plantain chips. Washed it all down with a strong margarita. I love how this business is family owned & everything is made with care. read more

Located in a little strip mall in suburbia this is a good little restaurant for sure. Food comes out fast and has a wide variety of choices. A couple of notes were.... Chips do not come out complimentary... you have to order them... the black beans are good but need some bacon fat in them to set them up as a wow bean dish. I stopped in for a fun Sunday brunch with some friends. The food was delicious as last time. This time I tried their brunch (Sopa Benedict) and a mimosa. The mimosa was very small for the cost, didn't realize just how small or I would have tried something else. The service sadly was mediocre at best. The waitress we had kept forgetting to check on us (I had to ask for water refills and then flag her down to get our bills). The last nail in the coffin for why I reduced the review to 4 instead of the 5 I gave it originally was the fact that the waitress didn't explain up charging that happened based on my meat selection for my Benedict's. Apparently choosing chorizo was extra and she never mentioned that, just listed it like a normal option. I do t appreciate not being told about upcharging. I will probably be back but will stick to lunch or dinner as that food (to me) and as better. read more

I am a taco connoisseur and they are all spectacular here. A huge standout is The portobello taco. Not something I would ever think of ordering, but it was recommended and it is one of my favorite items here. The queso with added chorizo is also fantastic. Drinks? Try the cucumbrero! We came for breakfast and it was awful. It was not busy yet it took our waitress forever to get drinks and take the order. At least 15 minutes after dropping drinks to take the order. We got the brunch bowl and it was luke warm and very small. The taste was meh. My daughter ordered a coffee and it was not good. She asked for apple juice instead and when the waitress came back they were out. She never took the coffee off the bill. Bad experience overall. read more

The Bloody Mary was perfect on flavor and just enough spice, and the Spicy omelet with chorizo was perfect and the micro greens (baby cilantro) on top was the perfect addition. My wife had the breakfast burrito with bacon and was pleased with the flavors and the tortilla. We shared the Papas Pequenas and they were a great addition. Mind you, they opened shortly just before Covid hit, and we had our first lockdowns. The food was great from our initial order, and as we ordered more and more with every visit, the food and service kept getting better and better. However, yesterday everything was on point. I copied important information on my receipt just to make sure credit goes where it should go. This special review goes to waitress Brittany C, Check #26, Table #42, came in at 5:03PM on 11/9/21. Our waitress gave us exactly what was ordered, and for the first time the meals came out super fast, and food was hot. So shout out not just to Brittany, but also the people in the kitchen that prepped such an amazing meal, and the other employees involved that executed where needed. What stood out to my wife and I was also the fact that our waitress had so much pep and personality. She was friendly, knew what to say to keep engagement, but knew how to keep the conversation lite, so that Brittany could allow my wife and I enjoy our night at the restaurant. There's an art to this. Restaurants and all the employees that run them create an experience for their consumer. It could be a good experience, or a bad one. I feel like we also asked her a lot for things during our visit, and she was always so cheery and positive to make our experience one to remember. As for the food, I tried all the tacos, and the mushroom taco is an absolute must! My wife and I also love their pozole soup dish. For an appetizer we often order the Flautas. Yum! This place has a really good menu, with various staple options for Mexican food that is worth trying. The guacamole was fresh, well balanced in flavor. While the Brussels sprouts didn't really match the menu, they were still tasty. The tacos were well made, not overfilled or under filled, well balanced and various textures in each bite. The shrimp diablo was really good but could be spicier in my opinion - that would be my only suggestion for improvement. Mushroom taco and Baja fish were also great! Black beans on the side were simple but flavorful. Really enjoyed this restaurant for having great options and tasty food. A long overdue review it is! I had been eyeing this place for some time as I heard some great reviews, and it is literally just 6 minutes away from our house! Usually, this place is always packed, and it's always preferable to make a reservation before you go. However, we were lucky enough to get a table soon for our walk-in visit. As my family is very fond of Mexican food, we started the evening with some plantain chips and perfectly seasoned guacamole, what a surprise, loved it! Then we moved on to nachos loaded with yummy and gooey cheesy sauce paired with Mexican flavorings!! Excellent!!! My main dish was poblano stuffed with chicken, walnuts, pomegranates, and arugula in a white sauce. The dish was terrific. The only thing I didn't like was that it was slightly on the sweeter side. I went to MK for the first time last week and had the PRAWNS AL MOJO, and it was absolutely delicious. The dish is provided with a generous quantity of large shrimp. Typically this plate would have been too large for me to finish, but its amazing flavoring kept me from stopping. This week my wife joined me and we had the pozole and tortilla soup. Once again, amazing flavorings. Our server and bartender Nate and Cody are fantastic individuals, both are top notch professionals. Such a cool little bar with great food! The second you walk in, the ambiance gets ya. Really cool decor, beautiful furniture and art work. I love to sit at the bar but their patio is really popular, too. The drinks are very tasty and they have more than just tequila for you tequila haters out there. I recommend the al pastor taco but the chicken tinga was great too. My tacos were a little saucy and the tortillas instantly fell apart so I had to knife and fork them but the flavor and tenderness was excellent. Also try the queso with chorizo! If you want something more unique, go with the plantain chips and guacamole. It has pineapple in it! read more

Had a friend in town from Alaska for a trip to Mexico. She didn't want to wait to get down to Mexico for Mexican food! We enjoyed some drinks first. The girls had margaritas while I had a few mojito's. Both were really good. For dinner I had the Classic Mole Enchiladas filled with chicken. The enchiladas were outstanding. As far as the cilantro lime rice I didn't taste any lime or cilantro in it. There wasn't any cilantro to be seen in it. It was still good but not what I was expecting. The refried beans were just that. Nothing special about them. My wife had the Short Rib Chili Negro bowl and enjoyed it. Much bigger portion then when we got take out when they first opened. Our friend got the trio tacos. She liked them but I couldn't tell you which tacos she got. We ended with dessert, I can't remember the name and I can't find it on the menu.
