To everyone in the reviews who said they are gluten-free... they are not. Two employees confirmed with me that they use rice flour, tapioca flour, and whole wheat flour. Just because it's a mochi donut doesn't mean it's gluten free! I'm not rating this Yelp review negatively because of that, but people avoiding gluten should be aware. New Mochi donut place inside Mitsuwa, replacing Modo. I was excited to try their donuts because the donuts behind the glass display looked so pretty and delicious. Ordered a box of 6 for $18, and decided on the fruity pebbles, cinnacrunch, and strawberry. They were honestly just okay. The cinnacrunch was my favorite. The toppings tasted a little stale and the donut beneath wasn't as fresh tasting as I was expecting. The strawberry was too gooey and tart. I normally love strawberry desserts and drinks, but this was my least favorite. Also got two mochisadas, which are like giant mochi balls filled with custard. I would've liked just a Mochi ball by itself without the filling. Biting into the giant mochi was super satisfying, but the custard made it harder to eat and gets messy quick! I do think this place and their offerings is better than Modo, but Fill's is still the best place for Mochi donuts in the OC. I will say in general I prefer traditional donut shops. read more

What I love most about these doughnuts is the texture. I mean the taste can't really compare to anything else. These are a must-try! The doughnuts I ordered were: - Salted Caramel - Matcha - Strawberry Cronut I absolutely loved the salted caramel. The soft texture with the sweetness and salt. The description is 1000% accurate. If it's your first time and you are a Carmel lover I would say make sure to try this one! The Matcha flavor was a little too earthy for me. Had to try tho. I absolutely fell in love with the Strawberry Cronut at this establishment. Its unique combination of flakiness and softness, topped with whipped cream and strawberries, created an explosion of textures in my mouth. In fact, I was so impressed that I plan on ordering two of them on my next visit. The BF and I ordered a Hawaiian latte and a cold brew, and both were Ambiance: There is an indoor seating area provided with about 8-10 tables on a first come base where you can sit and enjoy our treats. And of course, I must give a shoutout to the staff, who went above and beyond to assist us in navigating the menu and making our selections. Not much to say about the ambiance as I'm really busy and grab my stuff and go. Life as a busy mom. I'll most likely swing by and try different flavours when I stop by the Japanese market later this month. Definitely worth a try. What a nice replacement for mochinut. Came here x2 time a day for their unique mochisada. Basically mochi donut but made to a ball with filling rather than ring shaped. The texture is so interesting. Literally like a mochi, filled with custard too?! yum. Got the Nutella mochisada n the strawberry. The nutella had nutella custard inside so good. The strawberry is kinda diff. On my first visit it came with strawberry custard, but on the 2nd, they probably forgot to put the filling in. Such a unique take on mochi donut. As long as the filling is found in the donut. I love mochi donuts and had been wanting to visit this place for a few weeks. I finally got around to stopping by earlier today. The donuts were beautiful and the flavor options were unique, but the taste of the donuts was truly underwhelming. My biggest critique is that the texture was off. A good mochi donut has a bit of a "pop" when you bite into the little balls with a nice, doughy inside, and that's my favorite part. These donuts didn't have the "pop," they were just doughy and soft. Matcha is one of my favorite flavors, but these matcha donuts didn't really taste like matcha and I've definitely had better matcha flavored mochi donuts in Irvine. The cookies n' cream donut was very rich, but good. The brownie flavor was very rich, but I didn't find the flavor that great. The s'mores donut was very good and by far the best thing I ordered. I also got a Nutella brioche because it looked great, but it did not taste good. Weirdly, the filling was liquid and not a custard texture. I am assuming something went awry there. It also did not taste like Nutella, it just tasted like chocolate. Overall, I'd say Mochill is just ok. It wasn't bad aside from the Nutella brioche, but it also wasn't remarkably good. I would not go back because there are much better mochi donut spots in OC. Fairly new location inside Mitsuwa Marketplace. The worker that helped me was friendly and quick with my order! I got three different flavors: Black Sesame, Salted Caramel, and Strawberry Mochisada. Black Sesame - One of my favorite flavors so no complaints! I usually get this and the matcha flavor. Salted Caramel - Also very good! We decided to try out a flavor from each category (mochi donut, brioche, and mochi sada). From favorite to least: 1. Matcha Brioche - the matcha cream filling was tasty. Strong matcha flavor without being overly bitter or sweet. I love the chocolate crisp topping which added a nice crunchy texture to the bite. 2. Nutella Mochi Sada - didn't know what to expect from a "mochi sada" and the mochi chewy texture of the dough pleasantly surprised us. The texture is reminiscent of sesame balls from Chinese dim sum. The flavor, on the other hand, was disappointing. I wouldn't be able to tell there's nutella in this if it wasn't in the name. There were also some congealed pieces in the cream/custard which were a bit off-putting. 3. Strawberry Mochi Donut - pretty standard and strawberry flavor was not as strong as I would like. I stumbled upon this amazing donut + coffee shop while grabbing some tea inside Mitsuwa today. Both the baked and fried mochi donuts are fresh and delicious, however I love the baked version a tad bit more. Besides being very flavorful, the baked variants are greatly chewy while the fried variants are very spongy. The staff is very friendly and chill. And it's a quaint food court with wooden tables and chairs. Their box deals are highly recommended. read more

I honestly really wanted to love this place because the service was a 5/5. However, Modo was too good that any replacement shop just doesn't hit the same. There's a great selection of donuts,however, Modo use to make it fresh to order so it was crispy,hot, and honestly the perfect mochi donut. However, ours were stale and taken from the rack where it was probably sitting for a few hours. It's bigger than the palm of my hand, but maybe I have small hands lol. It is so soft and fluffy, very delicious. I loved the strawberry crunch, the texture was tasty, such a delightful treat. The girl at the cash register who took my order is so friendly. She was very patient when I selected which flavors I wanted to get. I got a chance to try out one of their new items at ax chibi 2023. I was in mood for some crepes. I was so happy that there was a crepe booth at ax chibi. So I lined up and placed my order. Deciding what to order was difficult. There were many options available. But I went with the strawberry banana chocolate crepe. This crepe was sweet, but not too sweet. There was a nice balance of chocolate, strawberry and banana flavors. I also enjoyed the whipped cream as it was light and didn't feel dense for me. The crepe (made with rice flour) was yummy and tastes on par with crepe made with the usual flour. Make sure to grab some napkins because eating the crepe can get messy. read more

And even better than that, they were all stuck together in a delicious ring. Crazy that there is just a cafeteria in the back of a shopping market with better than mid food. I have not tried the coffee drinks here or other pastries, but I am interested in those as well.
