Got a cup of clam chowder from here and it came with a piece of sourdough bread! I love clam chowder and this one did not disappoint! It had chunks of potato and clam and had the right amount of saltiness! You can get a bowl for 1-2 dollars more, so if you are hungry do that! I only got a cup to portion control myself for lunch! I had not been inside an Andersen Bakery for many, many years. So, it seemed like time enough to try them again. We got a lemon tart (with nice presentation) , an almond croissant, and a couple of cookies, chocolate chip and strawberry shortcake. The lemon tart filling of lemon curd was wonderful, but the ratio of filling to crust was off; it needed more filling. And while the crust tasted fine, it was hard as a rock, cutting through it was amazingly difficult. The almond croissant was a big disappointment; although the pastry tasted good, there was a pitiful amount of almond paste filling. According to my daughter, the chocolate chip cookie was good. I really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake cookie; it was unlike anything I had had before, and I usually do not like thick cookies. I would definitely return for those cookies. read more

This past Sunday was the celebration party of my wife's birthday. I was told Andersen Bakery is a good spot to grab a couple of their small cakes so that there was a variety of flavors for people to choose from. I was the first customer there at 8AM so that I can grab the stuff & go about my day. There was a rush of people just like me looking to purchase baked goodies right when they opened. The reason for my two-star review is the for two main reasons: 1) They weren't prepared to open & serve. Lots of holes in the cake section, low inventory of baked snacks behind the main glass near the register and the coffee wasn't brewed and ready to go. They had no chocolate cakes and the cakes they did have looked like they've been sitting for a day or two. There was no baking going on in the back, which is what you'd expect from a bakery. Actually, you'd expect them to be there hours earlier getting prepped but that didn't seem like the case. I asked for a large coffee and the cashier had to go fiddle somewhere to grab a case of coffee that didn't taste fresh. How can you not have fresh, black coffee ready to go first thing in the morning at a bakery? 2) The pricing has really gone up. $26-$35 for a basic, small cake is expensive. There was nothing special about these cakes either; just your run-of-the-mill vanilla cakes with 4 strawberries on top. You'd think for high pricing you'd get better service & products but that's not the case here. I probably won't be back to this bakery in the future. Between the lack of selection, high pricing and mediocre tasting food & drinks, there are plenty of other bakeries that are operating at a higher level and deserving of my cash. read more

I use "Too Good To Go" (TGTG) app to try new things from places I want to try out for the first time, and was actually pretty impressed with the selection that I got the first couple of times. So on this third visit, I decided to try out their sandwiches (overdid it a little and got 4 sandos) and the "favorite" Jalapeño Cheesebread. One was featured at the store--"Spicy Turkey Italian" (see pic) which boasts a combination of Turkey, Salami, and Pastrami (ordered it on a baguette). There was absolutely NO salami or pastrami as you can tell by the pictures I took which looks totally different than what they also show on their website. I even deconstructed the sandwich hoping to find maybe a small slice or two. I wasn't about to drive back to get it right and the spicy mayo was pretty darn good. Then I took another bite and found half a pepperoncini... stem and all! Took it out and finished half the sandwich. Busy holiday season and whatever, right? So on to the fave cheesebread and felt something stringy after a couple of bites. Couldn't even see it at first (until I put it against a dark container) then found a long strand of light-colored hair. Here's my dilemma... I liked most of the things I've tried so far and even my son said he enjoyed his sandwich and it was filling so I don't want to bash them too hard, but I also don't enjoy eating stems or other people's hair. Granted they got pretty busy after I placed my order but I still expect to get what I paid for. Worth another try? Maybe I'll stick with TGTG stuff and not pay full price until I find something I truly can't love without. But will definitely point it out to staff If I visit again. read more

Their classic baked goods are executed well - eclairs, croissants, scones, and brioches. Their experimental and seasonal flavors are divine. Desserts (cakes, pies, custards) are very tempting as well. This pristine location is easily accessible since it's right off the highway and has plenty of parking in its private lot. Sandwiched between big lot stores like Walmart and Lowe's in addition to the theater and other eateries close by, Andersen Bakery is a prime location to grab your breakfast or lunch or loaves to go with your dinner. Should you decide to dine in, there are plenty of tables and chairs. Serving coffee and teas alongside their pastries and sandwiches, you could stay here all day! There is complimentary wifi so you could also get some work in while you're dining about town. I was satisfied with the service of the staff as well. They were quick, patient and accurate with their order fulfillment. Overall, Andersen Bakery has always been a favorite of mine and through the years, they have continued to uphold their quality and service. This location in particular is convenient for many for a quick pick up or place to camp for a few hours. I like it and look forward to trying more of their goodies! read more

Came around noon and it was pretty empty, 3 worked and 2 people eating My review is based on a Too Good To Go pickup not an actual in store purchase. The Too Good To Go process were pretty simple, there is tons of parking. Just park, go inside and swipe your pickup and show them your screen and they give you your order. Took about 1 minute after a few moments of awkwardly just standing there go get the order as the order was ready to go. There was no hellos when entered so it was a bit awkward. The Too Good To Go order was $5.99 and I got a half a loaf of sliced white bread that was nice and soft, a apple pastry, a strawberry pastry and a roll filled with cheese and pesto (which for that price was a good deal compared to the prices that they are normally) I can't wait to come back and actually try some things, they have so many items to consider! read more

This was my first time at Andersen bakery. The service was great and quick since we got our sandwiches in less than 10 mins. The sandwiches were 10/10, from crispy fresh bread to fresh ingredients, you can tell from one bite. Same goes for the pastries, the eclairs were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. you can definitely sit inside and eat or take out. The baker does look run down and not taken care of since they are using pieces of card board boxes to cover trash cans. read more

I ordered a roast beef sandwich. I knew something was off when I picked it up. I bit down and tastee nothing but lettuce and mustard. Opened the sandwich to find I received a SINGLE slice of thin deli beef on my sandwich. ONE. Yes, I ordered the 1/2 Sandwich, 1/2 salad, but expected a half sandwich (1 full slice of bread cut in half), with decent proportion of meat to lettuce/filling. Instead, I got two full slices of bread, a single slice of meat, and a sandwich full of lettuce (whole sandwhich look, with what I'd argue was even less meat than you expect in a half sized sandwich). I was told by the employee that this was expected because it's "half portion." Stick to traditional half sandwiches vs trying to pull this off. It's ridiculous. Wish I had taken a pic. read more

Came here this past weekend and was mind blown on what occurred. Service was pretty standard, nothing to complain about. I order only three things: - French custard roll (sliced) - Spinach and Mushroom empanada - Jalapeno & cheese with polish bun 2 of 3 were good. They're my go-to but let me tell you something about this empanada. They asked if I wanted to warm it up and I said sure. But when eating, it was warm on the outside but cold inside? How? When it's been behind the glass pane? Unless they just took it out of a fridge recently. However, it was not only that, but the flavor was also bland. And this wasn't even the worst of it. As I was nearing the last 3 bites of the empanada, I felt like I bit into something hard. Even if it was the crust, it shouldn't of have been THAT hard and when I looked into it, it was A PIECE OF WOOD!!! Please see pictures attached. I could not even make this up. So many questions. If that was even a part of the spinach and mushroom mix, what is a piece of freaking wood doing in there?! Essence?! Aroma?! I can't believe it. My boyfriend needed to get a cake for his uncle's birthday. The bakery was on the way to his parents and we stopped by. Neither of us have been to the bakery. He picked the raspberry cheesecake. To top it off a bite into the salad spinach leaf made me gag as there was a giant hair, and the spinach leaf was wilted I will save my money for a reputable place. Andersen Bakery (formerly known as Grain D'or IYKYK) was my go to since high school days. Their farmer's chicken salad was always so good with pieces of apple in it, and the sliced almonds and sprouts that they layered on top. It's still my go to when I go. So I was really disappointed in this last visit. Some days I order the sandwich with a cup of soup, usually the clam chowder. On this one particular visit, when I opened the chowder soup container, it didn't smell like it normally did, and in fact smelled like it might be spoiled. I tried a small bite to confirm if indeed it might be bad. It still didn't taste like it normally did. My daughter wanted to try it but agreed it smelled funny. When I took it back to the counter, the male employee opened it and smelled it. Then he said, "Let me ask in the back because they would know." He also mentioned that the brand of clam chowder they used recently changed. So he emerges back from the kitchen after passing around my chowder with a few different employees and says, "They all said it's fine. Do you want it back?" Hmmm.... common sense and customer service tells me he should have offered me either another soup or a partial refund on the soup, not the soup I thought might be spoiled and had just been passed around and held up to the noses of a bunch of a people! I have noticed the quality of Andersen's has gone down in recent years, maybe related to the ownership change, but most of the bakery items in the case are still pretty good. They offer a wide international tastes incorporated into the baked goods!! I got to give a shout out to the employee woking the front counter by herself, she was preparing drink, retrieving the baked goods, taking orders, cleaning tables, and preparing the orders to go and for in house!!!
