I visited this place to do some computer work this morning. It's a really nice location and has a cool vibe. I ordered the plain pancakes and sausage with coffee. Ben was the bartender who offered great service, kept my coffee full and followed up often. I don't use syrup so I'm hard on pancakes as they must taste good with a little butter They came piping hot, were light and fluffy. And had a really good taste. The sausage was link sausage and had a mild taste and flavor. I'm not really a fan of links but they were certainly acceptable. The coffee was bold and tasty. It was a great first visit! This place seems to do a great business as it's always crowded especially on weekends. Personally I think they need to do a better job keeping the place clean and I mean sparkling clean, especially around the bar area. The music is too loud sometimes (perhaps try playing softer music). This is my most visited restaurant in the DMV. I noticed they updated their menu and sometimes that scares me as a vegetarian cuz there might not be options for me, but luckily I found their Falafel Burger. I also had some of their Brie Apple Bread appetizer, which is always good. The falafel burger seemed like a new dish taking the place of the veggie burger they used to have (which was one of my favorite dishes every time I would go). I enjoyed it! Most places I go, their falafel is on the dry side, but this one wasn't so dry. I think it could have used more sauce or something similar to hummus/tahini, but otherwise it tasted great! Third time is a charm...my friend and I had been trying to have brunch at Founding Farmers twice before this, and could not get in, but this time I made a reservation. So, success, now I know to make a reservation for brunch. : ) Jacob was our server and he was Awesome! He made the difference between this review being a 4 or 5 star review. He made sure that we had everything we needed. And, when one item was bad, he replaced it with ease. He also didn't rush us, he gave us plenty of time to eat and catch up. So, kudos to Jacob for excellent service. I ordered 2 sunny side eggs, bacon, pancakes, and a brûléed grapefruit. The eggs were perfectly cooked and were well seasoned with salt and pepper. The bacon was good. I usually like my bacon a little more well done, but it was fine. The pancakes were exceptional. They were light, fluffy, and were full of delicious flavor. The brûléed grapefruit was the issue. It was hard as a rock, even the knife would cut the segments. But, Jacob came to the rescue and replaced it with a tasty biscuit. The biscuit was delicious and came with butter and jam. I had black tea to drink and I loved the beautiful china cup it was served in. It is very loud and crowded, so be aware. I rushed into this location with only 7 minutes left to order from their breakfast/brunch menu (I really wanted bacon and eggs -- don't judge me, this is a safe space ). The hostess was kind and immediately calmed my concerns, assuring me I had more than enough time. I wanted to -- and like to think I could have -- eaten everything on the menu in one sitting, but I went with what I came for, and the food was excellent: well-portioned and exactly as desired. My waitress, Amber, was extremely hospitable and helpful, making sure all my questions were answered before I placed my order. Oh, and did I mention I forgot my wallet? The food and service were good. The ambiance was a little dark. Bathrooms looked a little old. I hade the fried chicken and crab cakes. I didn't care for the crab cake. They said it was New Orleans style. Excuse me but this is MD where crab cakes actually have crab in it, this crab cake was a mushy mess. The cold slaw and corn salad were excellent. The biscuit was very dense and dry. I was a little let down by the food. I had high hopes for this place. I have been to two other Farmhouse Restaurants but this one was far worse than the other two. I recently visited MoCo Founding Farmers, and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The ribeye was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor, and the seasonal vegetables were some of my absolute favorites, fresh, vibrant, and well-prepared. The spinach dip had a richer, more luxurious flavor than others I've tried, and it set a great tone for the meal. For drinks, the mocha lattes were absolutely delicious, creamy, balanced, and topped with what tasted just like homemade whipped cream. The chocolate flakes on top were a perfect finishing touch. My waffles were good, though I wasn't a big fan of the syrup, but the fried steak was crispy and flavorful. The sushi wontons were a fun and creative appetizer, though I don't think I'd order them again. The texture reminded me more of a fishy guacamole, which was different from how I remember them before. I might have preferred the glazed fish served on top instead. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and our server was kind, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Wow, it's been ten years since my last review of Founding Farmers. Been here many times for their breakfast which is very solid. I really like their coffee and can't go wrong with the Founding Farmers Breakfast, pancakes and their pan scrambles. The portion sizes are pretty big for breakfast. It does get quite crowded for breakfast, so make a reservation. For lunch/dinner, I like their Garlic Black Pepper Wings for appetizer/happy hour, Southern Fried chicken, Yankee Pot Roast and the fried chicken salad. Their steaks though need improvement. It's very inconsistent, one night it's very good and then another night the quality of the steak is really poor. One of the biggest strengths of Founding Farmers is actually their cocktails. The Founding Spirits Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned is my favorite cocktail here. Check out their happy hour menu as they have this cocktail and others for $7.99 and beers for $6. They built out their patio dining so it's more enclosed. It's nice to dine al fresco when the weather is nice out. read more

We went to Founding Farmers for a family brunch last weekend. It was perfect! We had a large round booth upstairs for the seven of us - well, six and a high-chair. The omelettes were delicious, the fried chicken was crunchy and perfectly cooked, my grandson's chocolate chip pancakes were yummy, he said. Even the fresh fruit was ripe, sweet and a perfect addition to our brunch. Our waiter was attentive and very helpful and it was the perfect place to eat, laugh and spend our time together. read more

We went tonight for restuarant week. This is a busy restuarant. The food is very nice. Unusually slow service. And there was a computer glitch that made our bill confusing. We made reservations last week for 5:45. We were seated on time. However, we didn't finish until after 9 pm. This is not their normal response. Apparently, the kitchen was swamped. However, the tables around us came after us & finished over an hour before us with no apparent problems. The manager was very responsive to our discomfort. Don't be discouraged. this was unusual. They normally give great service. The restuarant week special included huge salad & dessert. Entrees were beautifully presented. Long time gap between receiving first two entrees and receiving other 3 entrees. Plus points for the chicken pot pie that my picky granddaughter ate & loved. The daily fish special was not part of restaurant week. . It was also, beautiful & ok. The sweet potatoes was my favorite part of this entree. The fish itself was ok not special (slightly dry). Foundling FarmerPlatter is a excellent choice. Lots of good assorted mains. The included small salad was slightly too spicy. but still enjoyable. They need to stock up on teas. Three people ordered hot tea. Not good when only two of three people could order only black tea. In general, we prefer to drink green or white tea in the evenings because black tea has too much caffeine. Running out of choices for treat at 5:45 pm is kinda disappointing.
