I got the waffle and it was light and fluffy, but could've been a bit crunchier and it being a single waffle, it didn't quite fill me up. Service was very slow. Maybe they are understaffed. Server only checked on our table when we found other wait staff to locate them. At 6:00 restaurant was already out of their signature chicken pot pie. Table was never cleaned of appetizers or used plates. Drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive. I've been going to Founding Farmers for many years. I've been to the DC, Reston, Tysons, and Potomac locations. There are lots of veggie options available, which is great. I'm not a big 'fake meat' fan, but there is something available if you are. Here is all I've tried: - Fried Green Tomatoes: delicious. Wish they were seasoned a bit more, but still great. - Biscuits: love love love. - Tomato Soup: delicious. Love the flavor. - Purple Kale Salad: this is ok. Wish it had more toppings. Too much of just kale for me. I've tried the veggie quinoa bowl here too which is good. The Avocado toast is great, but huge portion size that can be shared. Overall, tons of options for vegetarians. It's one of those big scale industrial restaurants that largely serves as a meeting place. Something everyone can agree on. Unlike the one in downtown DC, you can actually get a table at this one, and the location is quite prominent: just off the highway, but with outdoor seating facing away from both the traffic and the morning sun, making for a pleasant dining experience. From a vegetarian perspective, their main menu has always offered a meatless selection, but their brunch menu does not have such labeling, which is always a head-scratcher for me. I settled on a French toast with cream and a bananas foster topping. It took up a rather small part of the plate, but with the cream inside was quite filling. The bananas foster topping was delicious, but contained too few actual bananas; you'd think a place that's built on the farm to table concept would have more actual fruit in their dishes. Still, I scraped at the leftover sauce for a while, concurrently enjoying a nice flavor contrast with my white tea. It's pricey and it's not perfect, but the place fills a useful niche and perhaps I will find a way back for dinner at some point. read more

I've been coming to this location for years. When they first opened it was hard to get a seat. It's a little easier now, but it's still pretty busy. During the pandemic they gained my loyal customer following with an easy to order and access pick up food market and pantry. When no one had meat, they had it. When you couldn't find pantry staples, they would sell you paper towels. The most amazing part, was that they didn't gauge the price like some other area establishments selling sanitizer for $10 a bottle. We ate half our meals as prepared food or raw ingredients to make dinner from Founding Farmers. Occasionally, they'd throw in a special treat. Here is the thing: the service is super spotty. The staff is exceedingly friendly. They could not be more friendly. Still, they tend to be slow on orders and mix ups are common. I forgive it, because they are so darn sweet. The food can be a little hit or miss, but the breakfast is solid. I love the biscuits and I don't even like biscuits. They offer delicious chicken sausage and hash browns. The coffee is high quality. I also love the Brie flatbread....which is really an open face brie sandwich but is, regardless, one of my favorite things to eat anywhere. Maybe don't come when you're in a hurry. Maybe bring your patience. Enjoy your biscuit and coffee and order from the pantry at the front. The hot dogs and pre made uncooked hamburger patties are amazing and easy to cook after a day at work. Tom Seitsema gave this place zero stars. That has to be a personal vendetta because zero stars should only be awarded if they insulted your mother at the door and there were roaches actively moving on your plate. It didn't make me stop going to Founding Farmer's, but it did make me stop reading Tom Seitsema's column. read more

Cute place for brunch. Nice decor, clean interior. And mostly good food. But slow service and meh coffee. Take some you lose some. Reasons for 3 and not 4 stars? I really can't stand bad waffles (from my chicken and waffles dish). How can you mess them up? I would've definitely paid $15+ on a frozen eggo waffle rather than what i got w my chicken. Mediocre coffee. Not the BEST. But too overpriced for the taste. Cute milk pourer containers tho. Chicken and Waffles (3/5) Loved the chicken. Around 3-4 skinny chicken strips but very flavorful, juicy, and crunchy. Really disliked the waffles that came with them tho. Could not go down. Very eggy or lacking in flavor. Just squishy carbs with a very limited taste. Could not eat at all. Even when doused in syrup. The side eggs were good. Gravy was good. Wish it was warmer tho. Maple Syrup (2/5) Also did not like the maple syrup lol sorry:/ They say they partnered with Cornell? I would've honestly preferred store bought artificial Aunt Jemima syrup. Their maple syrup is very runny and has a sharp cinnamon flavor. No actual maple flavor just sugar syrup with a strong taste of cinnamon from the random stick added to the pot. Blueberry pancakes (5/5) My friend got this. The pancakes were really good and tasty. Unlike the waffles from the chicken and waffles. Very moist. Large servings. The blueberry side eh but still very good! Pastrami Hash (4/5) Super tasty. But our side of bread, the biscuit, was insanely hard. Felt like oyster crackers tbh. Too crunchy, definitely not made in the same day. Majority of the dishes were really tasty! Just the service also lacked slightly. Nice people. But, took way too long to get our card and check back. We gave our waiter our card and waited around ten minutes for them to go around and serve people forgetting to put in our card. We also finished our food early and were waiting for our server but could not find them at all for another ten minutes. We were just sitting around waiting. I would probably come again. It's a decent place if you order food things and enjoy taking your time at meals. Def would not be getting waffles or coffee next time tho. read more

The worst meal I've had in years! First of all our reservation was at 6pm and was confirmed, got to our table at 6:40, crammed into the waiting area with no room at the bar. I ordered the Straw & Hay Linguini, tasted like paste, I think they were so overcrowded they forgot to season and add Parmesan to the sauce. So very disappointed! read more

I've long been a fan of FF but today really stunk. Since walking into the restaurant I felt like I was unwelcome. The hostess was also the server. It might be the reason why she didn't seem to be having a great day. I wouldn't want to do someone else's job either. It felt like she couldn't wait for us to leave the moment she saw us. The food was honestly the worst I ever had at founding farmers. I had the ribs which was supposed to come with fries, slaw, and green beans. I asked to sub the green beans for corn pudding. The ribs were just terrible. The sauce had this metallic taste. They were also borderline cold. I also never got my slaw (I've gotten used to missing items at FF...This was the fourth occasion that's happened to me at 3 different locations). I thought about asking for it but I honestly didn't want to deal with the unhappy server again. My dad is a senior and he loves the fish, chips, and beer. He doesn't communicate well anymore so we typically do the talking for him. Guess what? He didn't get his beer that came with the fish. I did ask for that and eventually got it. He liked his food but the portion was WAY skimpier than in past visits. He was fine so I didn't bring anything up while there. We were hungry, we ate, and I had to get him home. But having lived in this area for so long, I can see signs of decline and FF is clearly showing them. I get that it's 2024 and we kinda have to have low expectations for everything but come on FF. We had Christmas Eve dinner here w a party of 12! We typically order apps to share and desserts to share so we can try multiple tastes. Despite several dietary restrictions within our party, we had a variety of delicious bites and everyone enjoyed great entrees. Not to mention a few of us had celebratory mixed drinks at the bar before we were seated and they gave us an awesome semi private table in a corner near the stairs. We were headed to our favorite place for tacos when the thought of good old American food came to mind as we approached the Park Potomac area-- Thanks to the quick decision making talents of our group, we ended up at Founding Farmers. Founding Farmers IS a chain and there's nothing wrong with that. This is the fourth time I've eaten at the chain and the second time at this location. During our last visit, our group was met with warm welcomes and helpful staff who made it a point to get us the outdoor table that suited our needs. It was the perfect day to be outdoors and it was a little past 1 (the lunch crowd had already left) and it was a lovely setting (forget the parked cars!). The menu is quite extensive and after much deliberation ( 1 minute!!!), the 3 of us all wanted ...drumroll.. fried chicken!!! We all agreed it was crispy, non-greasy and very moist! It is offered with a biscuit, mashed potatoes and collard greens. One of us wanted French fries (probably not the best thing you've ever had) and two of us traded the collard greens for coleslaw. The biscuit was not buttery but was really good! The collard greens were okay ( Don't take our viewpoint so seriously since we're not claiming to be experts in collard greens!) There was really no room for dessert (such discipline!!!) but I have a feeling we are going to be back and be more strategic with our meal so we can try Uncle Buck's beignets! read more

Founding farmers is a magical place. The hostess was kind, friendly, gave eye contact and greeted us with a smile. My bartender was Benny. He was friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was tasty and fresh. Even the cocktails tasted like they were made from fresh ingredients. To top it all off, the plate the food was served on had a picture of George Washington, Martha Washington and George Washington Carver. Never in my life have I eaten at a $$$ restaurant that honored black history in such a significant way. It was touching and kind. Just like their food. Much respect Founding farmers. I see YOU.
