Well, let me start by saying up until this experience, I was not a fan of ANY of the Founding Farmers restaurants. In the past I have experienced unseasoned and bland food at the other locations. I decided to try this one out since the reviews appeared extremely favorable. Here are my takeaways: 1. The service wasn't that great because I had to repeatedly find or request other severs to assist our table. Our waitress had a table with about 8 people and had her focus on that table. We had to get other people to get our drinks and place our food order. The Manager did come to our table to apologize and assist us. 2. I had the spinach salad with apples, steak, nuts, a few other items. The salad dressing it came with was great! The steak had ZERO seasoning. I think they put in about 1/4 of an apple. There was too much spinach for the amount of ingredients, so the ratio was way off. I also recommended to the Manager that they either replace the spinach with arugula or add some to this dish. 3. Drinks-They only have craft beers. The Vodka and cranberry "juice" that my mom received was horrible! I guess they use real cranberries, but the level of tartness made this drink a "major fail". The infused coconut and cinnamon old fashioned drink lacked coconut and cinnamon flavor. I recommended to the Manager that they either fix the drink to match the description, remove it, or replace it with a smokey old-fashioned. 4. Everyone else at my table had the beef short ribs. They were seasoned well, but too lean which made it very dry. 5. The sides were a hit due to perfect seasoning and cooking! We had multiple sides like the potato latkes, mash potatoes and vegetable medley with squash. Overall, everyone agreed that we will go back and try it again. Stay tuned! read more

This was my second visit and this time I knew to make reservations in advance because Sunday brunch can be pretty busy. My girlfriends were happy to enjoy some mimosas and bacon wrapped dates to start. My Bleu cheese and bacon burger was pretty decent. I definitely prefer a thin patty like they had, so that was great. But both my friend and I agree that they could've been a bit more generous with those toppings as the edges were quite naked. However, their fries were great! I also took home two take and bake chocolate chip cookies. I thought it was odd they didn't put instructions in the bag. So I just set my oven to 350 and kept and eye on them. In the end they took maybe 18 minutes?? They weren't the best cookies I've had in this area, but I can't say no to a fresh out of the oven cookie. Our server was great. I'm not around Park Potomac as much as I used to be so it has been a few years since I'd been to Founding Farmers. And I was happy to see nothing has changed in all the best ways. The food is still absolutely fantastic. And the service is still absolutely top notch. I stopped by for a quick lunch at the bar and Ryan was all over it. Abysmal. Ordered dinner online tonight. All three of our entrees were missing sides. The food we did receive was over-salted to the point of being inedible. When I called about our missing items, I was told they could not send out another delivery driver. They offered to refund just the sides. Meanwhile, I had inadequate food to serve my guests and our dinner was ruined. How do places like this even stay in business??? After 15 minutes on hold and being hung up on, I finally insisted that a manager refund the whole meal. We will NEVER order food from this restaurant again. The bar out there a has fallen REALLY low. 4*Moco's Founding farmers: The restaurant was big and spacious, the atmosphere was nice and attracted a nice crowd on a weekday lunch. The service was attentive, and the price was reasonable. The food portions were big. It was listed as new American cuisine, but it was more like American traditional/southern cuisine. It offers fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles and so on. 3*Glazed bacon lollis: it was recommended by waitress as a special dish. It was okay but not great! 4*Garlic black pepper wings: very good, the wings tasted better than the drums. 4*Steak and enchiladas: corn and the avocado salad: the portion was huge, enough for two people. The steak was decent and tender, not the best. Some bites were chewy. Nevertheless still a good value dish. 4*Chesapeake wild blue catfish: exceeded my expectations. The fish was nicely cooked and crispy. But the portions of fish was quite small. I would order it again based on the flavors. 5*Double chocolate cheesecake: I'm not a connoisseur of traditional American desserts, but I was told this was the best. Came here for the first time expecting a great brunch. We ordered and each of us had something wrong with our meal. Food took forever, we ordered coffee and it never came, we reminded them and it still didn't come until we were done eating. We asked for no powdered sugar on pancakes and they had powdered sugar, my eggs were cold and the eggs Benedict were way overcooked. If you're going to pride yourself on being a farm to table, upscale brunch experience then maybe pay attention to those dining at your restaurant. read more

By far the worst experience at this restaurant- server was not very friendly, no empathy, and no apologies. Table for 5, apps were fine and drinks ok. Entrees- sub par. One ordered the spatchcock chicken w Peruvian spices and the chicken came out scorched and dry. Asked the waiter if he could get a new one and then the mgr came over. Decided to give it another chance which after waiting 20 minutes, it finally came out - after everyone else ate. . Better than the first but got it to go Two ppl got the goat cheese ravioli and chicken and both came out dry and pasta was under done. - did not ask for new considering the chicken issue. Another ordered chicken and waffles and asked for mashed potatoes and still got Mac and cheese- no attention to detail The server disappeared after that and after another 20 minutes got the bill. They charged me for both chickens and waiter had an attitude when I asked to take it off. Again, no apologies, no discount and will not eat there again and suggest others think of other places to go. So today was first time trying Founding Farmers. I constantly pass it on 270 however, I never made it inside. I will start with the ambiance. The decor/ interior design was aesthetically pleasing. It was very clean and it gave country vibes. It seems as though everyone were enjoying themselves. The service was exceptional. My date made the reservation maybe an hour before and once we arrived we were immediately directed to our table. Our waiter was great. She kept us abreast of when our drinks and food would arrive. And constantly checked on our table ensuring that we didn't have any requests or concerns. Now on to the food. The food was sub par. I chose the spicy friend chicken that came with grits, collard greens and a biscuit. I tasted the grits and the texture reminded me of mashed potatoes (not soft potatoes). The collard greens didn't have much taste and the spicy friend chicken was mostly breading and little chicken. The biscuit was bland as well. I also tried the devil eggs and they were full of onion as that was the only flavor that I was able to distinctly taste. It is safe to say that I will not be eating at this establishment again. I am hoping that their happy hour menu has better choices. Overall, it was a 3/5 experience. If they possibly change their flavoring of food it would be a great restaurant. read more

First impression: The hostess taking us to our table did not speak a word to us. This made things uncomfortable. Not sure what happened to this place but it is not the same place i went to three years ago. Service was slow, entree was decent but beignets were terrible. First bite into my beignet all I tasted was frying oil which is disgusting. Then the inside is mush. I'm surprised that I haven't left a review before now, considering that my husband and I have been enjoying their delicious, fresh food and homemade spirits & craft cocktails! Wow. We love this establishment so much, we dined her DAYS before I delivered our daughter in 2021 LOL Founding Farmers is best known for their fresh ingredients, which are sourced from local farms. Every dish is served presentably AND it's obvious that you're in for a treat by the way each ingredient is intentionally paired with others. I ALWAYS get the Glazed Bacon Lollis (as in "Lollipop"), the Prosciutto Farm Bread, and the Purple & Black Kale Salad to start. We often order the unique Garlic Black Pepper Wings--Well-Done, of course. It's fun ordering off of the bar menu, because there are plenty of options in each spirit category, and as I said earlier, I believe they exclusively use their own distilled spirits for their signature cocktails. They do have the staple brands behind the bar, too. They even make their own lemonades and seltzers! The service team is friendly, knowledgeable, and on point. From the Hosts to the Managers, every one's goal is to ensure high customer satisfaction. During our most recent time dining-in, we were taken care of by David. He kept up with all of our orders and requests with precision and a smile. We had a nice chat with the server named Nina. "Nina" is a nickname my grandmother calls me, so I was excited to speak with her. Finally, we were able to converse with Kim, the General Manager, who was experimenting with edible glitter that day, and gave me some for my drink. THAT was SO cool, and if that is incorporated permanent, I will be ordering it all the time! LOL I definitely give Founding Farmers my stamp of approval. Almost as tasty as dining in the restaurant. The servings are generous! The chicken pieces seem smaller than when I ate in the restaurant. That's my only quibble about this meal. This is a very EH restaueant. I love the DC location so I figured I'd give this place a try. I read the reviews before going, but I still really wanted to give it a try. First and foremost, the service was terrible. They weren't that busy so I was really surprised to see that my waiter took at least 5 minutes to even say hi to our table and get us waters, took another 10 to get our orders, and he didn't even check up on us during our meal. Once we finished, he took forever to get us the check as well. We ordered the prosciutto and fig bread and it was extremely underwhelming. For the price, I feel like they could have at least tried to pile the prosciutto on. My eggs benedict had an over cooked poached egg, so that was such a huge disappointment. I feel like the appeal of eggs benedict is that runny yolk and I was so sad to not get that. Smoked salmon was average and the hashbrowns were not seasoned. I also had the aztec latte and it was pretty good. It was a bit spicy for my own taste because of the cinnamon, but if you like that flavor I'd recommend it. The food was definitely not inedible, but not worth the price. If you can get reservations at the DC location, I'd just go there. I don't think I will ever go back to fhis location. read more

The food is not the problem. The food is really good. However, the service gets worse and worse everytime I go. The servers are disengaged, take forever to even greet the table, and generally indifferent. This last time I went, I had to ask for water twice before she brought it. She didn't check on us once the food arrived, didn't ask if we wanted refills on our drinks or even water. I think I'm done giving the service a chance. I hope management reads this and does something to address it. I have served before and try to give the benefit of the doubt but it's pretty bad. read more

Our experience the last time we dined at Founding Farmers was disappointing. It was restraint week though, and we decided to give them another go. Happy to say that they truly redeemed themselves. We started with some cocktails, a Farmers Daughter, Constitution, and Baroness. All nice solid drinks! The fried green tomatoes made for a great app. Well seasoned, crispy on the outside, and fresh and moist on the inside. For entrees our favs were the steak and enchiladas, and the chicken and waffles. The steak well cooked and seasoned and matched nicely with the slightly spicy enchilada. The chicken was moist on the inside and crispy out, and the waffles also had a nice flavor and the texture was just right balancing being too crisp or too soft. All of the deserts we tried were great. The 4 cone flight is an excellent sampling of really well made ice creams. The beignets were hot and crisp on the outside and moist on the inside, we devoured them. And finally the Affogato, combining strong espresso with sweet creamy ice cream was a terrific finish. read more

I gave this place a shot for Sunday brunch after having no success with booking reservations at Founding Farmers in DC. This was a good alternative considering location and early morning availability for Sunday brunch. If you love this restaurant group, normally dine at Founding Farmers in DC, aren't interested in the hustle and agony of finding parking in the Foggy Bottom area and don't want to have to book Sunday brunch weeks in advance, MoCo Founding Farmers might be the right alternative for you. Full disclosure - when it comes to this restaurant group I normally dine at Farmers Fishers Bakers (FFB) for brunch, which in my opinion their brunch buffet is one of the best in DC, however it has become increasingly difficult to get seating for larger groups for Sunday brunch at FFB. I made the mistake thinking MoCo Founding Farmers had the same brunch buffet set-up as FFB (hence the reason I opted for MoCo) but sadly they had a la carte menu for breakfast. However I was more disappointed because the online menu description distinguishes breakfast and brunch, but the breakfast and brunch menus are the same. I was expecting a different food line-up for Sunday brunch. Overall, the food is good. I was disappointed the beignets came up short of the traditional doughnut shape and amount of powdered sugar I'm accustomed to which would have made it reminiscent of customary beignets, however if you've never had beignets before MoCo Founding Farmers beignets would probably suit your palate. Parking was plenty as this place is located in Park Potomac. This is one of my favorite go-to restaurants. It is definitely a place where you might need a reservation or be willing to wait, though. We recently stopped by at 9 pm on a Friday night, and they were quite busy. Although their drink menu is extensive--it is pricey. (The cheapest glass of wine is $11.) Founding Farmers on the whole is always amazing. I showed up before the rest of my party & had a quick drink at the bar while waiting. When the rest of my group arrived, we were sat very quickly for our reservation. The bar staff noticed without my having to call them over and presented me with a check very quickly so I could join them. Our server Mateo was fantastic, dealt with our indecisiveness like a champ, & answered all of our questions about both the menu and bits about the restaurant itself.
