I ordered takeout from MOD, so regarding service and ambiance, it was already ready. I got an edited version of what they call the Calexico, which has a GF crust (extra crispy), red sauce, plant-based cheese instead of mozz and Gorgonzola, spicy chicken sausage instead of grilled chicken, pickled jalapeños and a buffalo sauce drizzle. The crust had an overall decent crisp to it, and the spice was at a manageably moderate level, but some bites were spicier than others. Ordered dash pass from here the other day and I was so thrilled at the result. Coming back tired from a hike, we did not want to bother with cooking and this his the spot. We got a salad, pizza, dessert and cheese bread. All for around $40 with tip. I love that you have unlimited add ins for the pizza and salad. The salad felt healthy and diverse. Big in size. They had a lot of veggie and Jon veggie options and even a few choices for the greens. The pizza was 11' and a great size for two. The fig glaze was incredible. I got the meatless sausage and it was a hit. Pleasantly surprised at that. The garlic was a bit much- giant cloves. The cheese bread was ok but I wouldn't order it again. Paired nice with the pesto though. The sweet (pride cake) was also incredible. It was like a leveled up little Debbie. Dang. Dense cake and creamy frosting. Perfect ending. Overall wonderful meal. I'm a big fan of this super-thin pizza. I love the combos that they suggest and also the huge selection of toppings to create-your-own pie. There are also rotating "chef's creations" which change and are fun to try. Even though the pizzas are meant to be individual, I like to order a few for the table and try a couple of different combos. Though one of the fun parts of ordering a create-your-own just for yourself is that you can do unlimited toppings and the price stays the same. They've got a nice size patio with plenty of room for social distance dining. There is also a good size parking lot and curbside pick up. read more

MOD Pizza has been open for a good while in what was an old Exxon station on Merrimon, but I never seemed to get around to trying it, despite recommendations from friends. We did try it today, and I was more impressed than I thought I would be. MOD is a chain, of course, with more than 200 locations in the U.S. and the U.K., started in Seattle by the founders of a 75-unit specialty coffee chain, Seattle Coffee Company. It does feel a little chainy, but generally in a good way. First impression: bigger and nicer location than you'd expect from an old Exxon station. The entrance does give a nod to its service station heritage with a collection of vintage "creepers" on the wall -- those things you use to roll under a car to work on the underside of it. The deal with MOD is that they just have three size pizzas -- personal mini ($4.87 plus tax), MOD (11", $7.87 plus tax) and mega (essentially two MODs stacked, $10.87 plus tax.) You order at a counter that is somewhat similar to Subway, but cooler. The deal is that you can have any or all of the 30-odd toppings, at no extra cost. You can load on whatever toppings you want, and the price stays the same. Now that's a concept! Then you choose your drink (PBR around $2, craft drafts about $5, soft drinks around $2, etc.) The "MODsquad" takes your pizza selection and has it cooked, and in a (very) few minutes your name is called and you go pick up your pizza(s) at the counter. There's plenty of seating at tables and high tables, at least there was when we were there between 5 and 6 on a Monday. Everything went smoothly. Possibly things could get jammed up on a busy weekend night. All the pizzas are thin crust. There are salad pizzas, too (around $10) and a couple of appetizers for around $3. Our two MODs with a PBR and a craft draft was about $24 including tax. We tipped $2 in a jar -- probably should have tipped more. It's not the world's best pizza, but it's pretty darn good, especially for the money. Hot and fresh. The location has been well designed and looks darn good -- you'd never know it was an Exxon station. Everthing is clean. Staff is very friendly, service is super quick and all in all a good experience for around $12 books a head including beer, and we each took a slice or two home for later. I understand this location has music weekends. Tuesdays is $2 craft beer night. I'll go back. read more

I came here because a friend had said that they're cauliflower gluten-free (but not carb free) pizza crust was amazing. Having never been to a MOD pizza, I was unfamiliar with the concept or the ordering. Some of their staff instructed me on how to order, stating you pay for the pizza crust & that all the pizza toppings that you want are free. I picked a mix of meat and some vegetables. At the end, the gentleman who put the pizza in the box asked if I would like a topping. I picked the Sri-Rancha... Just a note a light drizzle would be expected but the pizza was drenched in the sauce. Surprisingly enough it wasn't overpowering. We had pizza and an "entree"'salad delivered tonight. The pizza was small but fine. The salad really left a lot to be desired. I ordered grilled chicken which seemed to be canned white chicken, but I can't be sure because there wasn't very much on there. There was absolutely no taste to the two three very small pieces of chicken that i had. I had to add meat from home. The rest of the salad was okay. I was super disappointed with this $10 salad. This MOD location is by far my favorite. I've been to several different locations in the southeast, but this location has the best interior space and seating arrangement. The parking lot is a decent size (no meters!), it's in a nice location, and the staff are always super friendly. My partner and I always get the Blackberry Lemonade that's unique to MOD. We choose MOD above competitors because you can get unlimited toppings for the same standard price, depending on dough size. This seems like such a simple pizza place, but really they have amazing pizza. I came here with my family for lunch, and we were immediately welcomed by the staff. The staff were so polite and courteous and helped my family decide on which pizza choice they should get. My parents decided on the basic Maddy pizza, as did I. You can get anything on your pizza. There are so many different items you can choose from. The restaurant was very clean and it had such a great vibe to it. We all felt welcome and everyone was so amazing here. I have been looking for good pizza in Asheville since I got here and while there are a few spots that are up to par, there isn't that spot that you just crave, until this place came to town. I go here almost daily. Now I know a lot of Asheville locals would tend to turn their nose up to a chain but try it before you judge. In a nutshell the concept is roughly $8 for 11 inch pie thin crust as many toppings as you would like. They have quality ingredients to top it off. I've never been to a MOD Pizza or actually heard of the chain at all. I am, however, always interested in a new North Asheville restaurant. We went the two nights ago and I found them very welcoming. Everyone was friendly and explained the process very easily to our group of 7. You have the option to choose between a selection of their pizzas or salads. Even better, you can build your own with no added cost. It's all a flat fee for the size of pizza you choose! I created my own and my only complaint was they were a bit stingy on the sauce and I don't really like a ton of sauce on the pizza. I'm wondering if this is because they are very thin crust pizzas. So after you choose all your toppings, they fire the pizza and it is out lightening fast. All of us had our pizzas within 5-8 minutes. I thought the thin crust with large pockets of air throughout was delicious. Definitely up my alley. On top of this, they had about four beers on draft including two Wicked Weed selections which was great. Ambiance: it was bright with music but nothing distracting. I thought they re-purposed an old gas station very nicely. A decent amount of parking and easy to turn in and out of. I found MOD affordable, fast, and tasty. Will definitely return! read more
