This was our first time here, probably our last. We placed an order on the website a half hour before we wanted to pick it up, it was easy so that's nice. We got to the restaurant right at pick up time, it was so busy in there but we bypassed the line so that's nice too. The employees were obviously stressed, no smiles, no 'welcome in', no 'thank you'. Okay, whatever. So we hightailed it out of there, got home and the pizza was luke warm at best, missing toppings and made incorrectly. Unfortunate but fixable! The straw that broke the camels back? Since they open in The village, we at least go there after school, my kids get Mod pizza as a snack before dinner. My kids get the topping of their choice and snack size convenience and affordable. They've worked out the kinks of a newly opened location and are moving like a well oiled machine to make sure your pizzas are delicious and one of a kind. The crew is cool but a couple shout outs go to my favorites - Erica and Dylan. Erica deserves a raise and any MVP award that Mod gives out to its employees. She is the backbone keeping her shift together with the speed of lightning and the efficiency of a true leader. She's never in the same position and always anticipates the flow of customers ensuring that my pizza gets in my belly! Kudos to her! The only thing sharper than the asiago topping I put on my pizza is Dylan's wit. I ordered pizza thru DoorDash and it came completely raw and flimsy! I don't know why they thought that was even ok to give to anybody.

Ordered pickup, said it'd be ready in 20 minutes, got there in 18 and it was warm and ready! i took a star off because my pizza was missing its pineapple (yes, it DOES belong on pizza!), was rather lighter with the cheese than i'd hoped, and the ranch was only half filled. Tired from a busy Monday, October 29, I suggested to my wife we go to Mod Pizza in Castro Valley. My wife has a gluten allergy and MP will cater to that need. The kitchen appeared understaffed with nobody really in charge. We waited quite a while for our pizza and had already waited quite a while to place the order. We noticed a pizza getting thrown away from the oven. When people got their pizzas who ordered after us, my wife realized that it was her pizza being thrown into the garbage. When our order was called, my wife asked if her pizza was the one tossed and a replacement made?. They said yes, and my wife asked for her money back and got it. MP had made another order for her, didn't tell us, and she could not verify it was made gluten free. Very unprofessional by MP. I guess they were too busy to tell us what happened and thought they could slip another pizza past us. Not cool Mod Pizza! Sadly, another Castro Valley restaurant that seems to disrespect their customers and treats us a rubes, who will eat anything that is served. read more

This isn't a knock on the kids that are working here, they are trying their best. They are courteous and working hard. But the management, or the system or the staffing is just unbelievable. We waited for an hour when there only were 4 people ahead of us. Four people. This is our second attempt to eat here and the second time this has happened. The pizza is good but I could get an equally good pizza so many other places and not wait an hour in line. I love MOD pizza and when I went to this location I was soooo disappointed. I don't know who is managing it but they have zero customer service skills or management skills. We went on a night that was unusually crowded due to a fund raiser and they ran out of every item!!! If you know there will be a fundraiser at your restaurant, maybe you should order enough stuff to feed the masses. We waited for well over a half an hour in line only to find out they were out of all of the major toppings. Then not one of the people there apologized. Edit 3/10/18: went to Mod for the second time and this time I requested that the food handler change his gloves before making my pizza. He gladly obliged and that put my mind at ease. I appreciate their willingness to make the customer happy. I hope they will continue to iron out the little kinks and keep on being successful. First, I want to say that I am happy to have this pizza place in Castro Valley...Welcome. The reason for the 3 stars is that they are not practicing optimal food handling procedures. When I order a vegetarian pizza, I would like for the food handlers who have been shredding meat with their gloved hands to not handle the vegetables with the same glove for the pizza that I am ordering! It's a real turn off for someone who doesn't eat meat! Can they not use tongs or change gloves before they handle ingredients for a pizza that is to be vegetarian? Same goes for the pizza cutter...don't use the wheel that you just diced meat with and then use it on my veggie pizza. Gross! Also, I felt like they are bit frugal with the pesto sauce on the pizza. They don't offer it unless you specifically ask for it. Instead of spooning in on the pizza and spreading it, they spatter it sparingly. I have had the pizza at Pieology which is the concept that this chain is based on. At Pieology, they use a squeeze bottle and make circles on the pizza crust. I hope that the management with take to heart these concerns as I am sure that I am not the only vegetarian who will eat there. So I have been here often since this place opened and I can honestly say I was lovin' MOD but during a recent visit the two girls starting the pizza (one had green/blue short hair and the other had blonde hair, pulled back) were wispering and laughing and it was ridiculously uncomfortable to place my order. Completly inappropriate behavior for the workplace, regardless if it is a pizza joint...I had planned on dining their but took my pizza to go and let the manager know. He offered me pizza which I refused as I have no intention of going back- this wasn't about free food. I've legit never had an experience like this bit it was unnerving to my boyfriend and myself. Pizza is always great but yesterday I came into pick up an Internet order and waited an hour. I even left to go shopping at ross and when I came back it still wasn't ready. I watched people who were in line come and go with there pizza and I was still waiting. Not sure we'll be back. That's twice now having to wait an hour for pizza. read more

Terrible service and fast food experience. 2 out 2 times, our pizza was given to another customer only to have it returned to us half eaten the second time around. Not kidding. The cashier never offered a refund. We instead had to wait an additional 20 mins (both times) to have our pizza remade. The "manager" alarmingly yelled and scolded one of the employees on how not to pile toppings in the center of the pizza while in front of customers during the lunch rush. Humiliating. The ingredients are fresh however the experience is sub par. The best impression we got of this place was having the employee (same one who got yelled at earlier for the toppings) throw out our pizza mid way as she inadvertently got a piece of her clothing in it. She was mindful enough to throw it out, wash her hands and attempt to restart our pizza. Again, that was the best part of our experience. MOD PIZZA IS THE PIZZA FOR YOU AND ME!! Ever since stumbling upon MOD in Oregon we've been hooked. We usually go to the Fremont location but this is closer to the house. First experience was decent my pizza was a little under done, but I'm not picky eh. This is our fourth trip and we've ran into a little issue where somebody picked up our pizza. But Bruno the manager. I hope I got your name correct. Went above and beyond to make sure we left satisfied. Keep in mind we didn't ask for anything nor did we seem frustrated that we had to wait five more minutes for our other pizza. I am very satisfied for the way the manager runs this establishment. The food itself was good, I was pretty happy with my meal. It was the service that was a little off. Nobody was friendly or smiling at all. We came in on a slow night and we were the only ones in line. Three guys were behind the counter but no one greeted us. I think they were preparing called in orders. After a couple of awkward minutes one guy told us he'd be right with us. He pretty quickly asked us what we wanted, a salad and a pizza was our pick. Another employee told the order taker what ingredients were in the salad (it was the special). When he was mixing it I noticed it was different from the description so I stopped him and asked him. I took a photo of the menu board with the list of ingredients and he made me another salad. He offered me the incorrect salad for free but I declined. All this was done politely from both sides, and I was happy with the salad. When we went to pay we were only charged for the pizza. We told the cashier that we ordered a salad too but he said it was ok to just pay for the pizza. We asked if he was sure because it didn't feel right but he said to just pay for the pizza. He said, "let's just leave it at this." We felt like we were cheating MOD. My other major gripe is that everything was served in to go containers even though we ate in. I'm very disappointed in this because disposables are such a cause of excessive waste. Everyone in the restaurant had their pizzas in boxes and their salads in plastic tubs. Bummer.
