After reading several reviews, my wife and I decided to give Mod a try. The employees behind the counter seemed to be more interested in talking to each other than helping customers. The pizza was nothing special. The crust looked like it was frozen and thawed in the store. We ordered one of the specialty pizzas, and I was asked once it was cooked if I wanted one of the ingredients that was supposed to come on the pizza. This was my first time visiting this pizza joint. When we arrived there was quite a lunch rush, but the line moved quickly. There is plenty of indoor seating and the restaurant is clean and kept up. The staff was very organized and had customers moving quickly through the line . The awesome perk with the pizzas are the unlimited topping or create your own for one price. The bad thing is if you have picky kids who only like pepperoni it comes out to be overpriced for a medium sized pizza. My boys devoured the pizza quickly and probably could have eaten another. Update: May 20. Came here to get pizza to go for the Spurs game. There were so many employees behind the counter but they were so poorly coordinated in their movements that time is wasted. There is a "manager" who all she does is look at who comes in the door and yell "welcome to Mod!" She needs to pay attention to what is going on with her employees. Since I was waiting so damn long in line I could watch everything. Customers looked pissed. The guy who is starting the pizza assembly tells me "one second" and he is pulling a stack of backed up phone in orders that apparently were sitting there and now the customer showed up to pick them up. Way better than Urban Bricks! It is not the best pizza you will have but it is good. It is the "speed style," "make your own," "assembly line" variety. I like the way the crust baked, the char was perfect. What I did not like: Do not like the small cups, I like to leave with a large serving of soda so these rinkadink cups don't cut it. Did not like the slovenly employees looking like they just got out of bed in a dorm room. Do not like that you sign a receipt that has a place for a tip and the tip jar like they have at Chipotle and Starbucks. If you like pizza and have never tried MOD Pizza, you are missing out. They make your pizza specifically for you with any toppings you want in your own sized pizza. They have small, medium, and large (Mini, MOD, Mega Dough). I usually get the small which is a perfect individual sized pizza for me and costs around $7. Well worth it! This is the only place that I've had a personal size other than Pizza Hut, and I like this crust better. It's always delicious! We get pizzas to go all the time. They have curbside, so you don't even have to get out of your car. They even started delivery which is awesome. I especially like the pesto sauce and the way they bake the crust. I like my crust on the crispy side, so I ask for extra crispy. My husband usually gets the Mad Dog. We also get the Cheesy Garlic Bread. I've heard the white sauce is good too, but I've never tried it. I have never tried the salads either, but I hear they're good also. Highly recommend! It's like a Subway for pizza which is good but it does make for some pretty mediocre taste since there's really no signature that sets it apart. We love MOD. This place is among our top favorites. We used to live very close to one and Virginia and were very excited to see this location opening up near us when we moved here. Very similar to Urban Bricks and Quickie but one million times better. We have convinced many friends to try this place out and they always love it. New location opened near my home and we decided to try it. I was very happy with my purchase here! They have great customer service! The setting reminds me of subway, you choose the size of your pizza and they a variety of toppings for your pizza, from vegetables to meats. Also, you are able to choose which type of marinara sauce you want on your pizza. Once you have created your pizza, the pizza is then baked and served. The prices of the pizzas aren't that bad either, ranging from three sizes, personal, mod and their large pizza, prices range from 5-10 for pizza which isn't that bad. This was my first trip to the new Mod Pizza here in SA. I have been to one other location, in Colorado Springs. I was very curious to see if I would enjoy it as much here as I did there. When we pulled up, it was between 12:00 and 12:30. We were surprised at now non-crowded it was. Maybe because it was Sunday. I'm sure if it had been a Saturday there would have been many more people. The inside is one big open dining area with a mixture of tables, group tables, and bar tops along the windows. My daughter and I both decided to create our own pizzas, although you can go entirely with one of their creations listed on the wall (which you can add even more items to). She made one with all veggies and their Mod sauce. I chose one with pepperoni, mushrooms, red onion, bell peppers and roasted red peppers with the Mod sauce. Mine was ready first, because apparently there had been some mistake with her pizza and was ready about ten minutes later. They were nice enough to give her a card for a free pizza. Good job at taking responsibility and making a happy customer! After ordering we went to get our beverages. We both got the Caramelized Pear tea. Super sweet and delicious, so be sure and fill up your cup with ice first. My pizza was just as good as the one I had in Colorado, I'm happy to say. The only improvement I can see making on the toppings is to cut the red onions up instead of leaving them in their rings. It can be hard to bite through the ring and often times the whole ring will come with your bite, or you have to try and hold the onion on while you bite through it.
