Staff is patient and friendly. Very fast service and food comes out temperature hot. We came here to try out good pizza joints and they do not disappoint. The place is on the small side and do not have public restrooms. The good thing is that there's a gas station right next door if you're in dire need of one lol. My food was not great. Ordered calzone and garlic-park wings for delivery. My wings seemed boiled and under seasoned. The calzone was a bit lacking on internal ingredients. I've had their food before and it was much better back then. Mattenga's never disappoints us. Recently we tried the calzone and I was pleasantly surprised how well it turned out. We were introduced to Mattenga's at a kids birthday party, they bought two pizzas for guests. The Texas brisket pizza is SO good, lots of meat and an interesting take on pizza. First timer here. The pizza good, we order 3 different pizza so we could try them and I love all 3. Santa Fe, margarita and just the plain pepperoni for my kids, the dough is soft and the crust was easy to eat and dip into the cilantro ranch that had a little spice to it. Their service was fast. Came to TX for a dental conference! Found this pizza place on yelp. Khris and the rest of the staff were amazing. The pizza was one of the best pizzas we had in TX! We're so glad we found it!! I ordered a large 16" pizza for delivery for the first time yesterday. I ordered a peperoni and Canadian bacon. When it came to paying for the pizza, I was told the total order was $44.00 dollars and change! Mind you, I live in Steubing Ranch on O'Conner Rd. (maybe a mile from the restaurant). I asked the clerk again for the total thinking I didn't hear correctly and she repeated it "$44.00 and some change". Needless to say I will not be ordering from this place. This was a really nice surprise to find such good pizza!. I wouldn't say it's "classic New York pizza", but it had a very nice char, and the toppings were excellent quality and quantity. Definitely more expensive than a Papa John's or a Pizza Hut, but cheaper than a lot of the typical gourmet pizza joints you'll run into around these parts... point being that overall it is very fairly priced. We really enjoyed the pizza pies we ordered, as well as their dessert offerings. We got cannolis, and they piped in the filling right there in front of you so the shell doesn't get soggy like the prefilled ones you usually find here in Texas. Once in the pizzeria I was greeted with a smile and "Welcome to Mattenga's, how can I help you." by Matt the owner. We talked for a bit and I paid for the order and I realized why the customer service was great over the phone, they are following Matt's example. The restaurant was clean, well lit, with several seats inside and outside as well. I ordered a large cheese pizza and a manager's special which was a 16 inch and bread sticks. Wow. We ordered the pretzels sticks and beer cheese- fantastic! I liked the Greek salad too, only I didn't realize it came with green olives (yuck), so I started picking them off. The, I assume, manager noticed and said they could put black olives in next time and I thanked him. Ten seconds later, he brought me a cup of black olives (yum). We've heard of Mattenga's through neighborhood recommendations for years, but never got a chance to try it until recently. We do like NY style pizza! We ordered the smallest size (which is about $10 and is considered like a personal pizza size 10") of the chicken pesto - Basil pesto sauce drizzle, sliced tomatoes, roasted chicken breast, artichokes and Mozzarella Cheese and the Texas Brisket Pizza - Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce as the base, Mozzarella Cheese, topped with tender hickory slow smoked Brisket. Chicken Pesto - they are pretty generous with the meat and even the artichoke. My hubby liked this one out of the two. The Texas Brisket Pizza - It was not overly sweet as they assured me on the phone, but it was still too sweet for my taste (not a fan of sweet bbq sauce). We barely had brisket meat (one tiny piece of meat on each slice). We also tried their pretzels with beer cheese dip. Hubby said he liked Mattenga's pretzels better than Auntie Anne's. I agree. Their beer cheese sauce is pretty good if you're a queso fan like myself. Service was extremely helpful and friendly. Would definitely give them a try again. Ambiance- small restaurant, no restrooms. You can't see them making your pizza bc it's blocked by a big metal wall. I'm thinking that was the backside of a walk in cooler. Service - took the person to come up front a few minutes when we walked in. She was on her phone and I know this bc she was putting her phone in her back pocket while she approached the counter. Really hope she used gloves to make our pizza. They don't have soda fountains so it's all cans and bottled water. This is a simple fix and great to have especially when you bring in kids. Food- I've been to the schertz location and this wasn't the same pizza I'm used to. Crust was fluffy and soggy at the same time. The toppings were fresh but not what I was hoping for. I thought this was a new location but has been there more than 5 years. Will not be back to this location. It was just ok but not worth $20 per pizza. read more
