My husband grabbed a pizza since mod was having a special for veterans. This is our first mod pizza and it's amazing. The staff were so friendly to him and helped him pick a pizza. Which tasted fantastic. I think our homemade bbq chicken pizza taste great and this hits close to home for us with flavor. We love it! To be honest, I was only excited about Mod Pizza because of its location. I couldn't really understand why we had a Pieology just down Monument by Kohl's, and then Blaze Pizza in Concord. Not to mention that Project Pie once resided in Walnut Creek and quickly closed its doors. Another fast casual, build your own individually sized pizza? Why? Would it be any different? Would the price be the same? Would they use the same ingredient suppliers? We checked Yelp reviews for other locations and the photos did not make the food look appetizing. But we decided to try it anyway... And we're glad we did! Mod Pizza is, well you guessed it, and I'll quote a kid we overhead in line: "It's like Chipotle but PIZZA!" Their main difference is that they offer different sizes: a small 6" pizza, a Mod 11" pizza, or the 11" with a double crust. They also offer build your own salads, unlike the other two chains in the area. Service felt a little rushed - probably due to the long line, but otherwise friendly. They have a menu of suggested topping combinations, or you can build your own, and there are after bake sauces as well, like pesto or balsamic fig (yum!). They have a selection of beers and Boylan sodas as well. Pizzas turned out to be delicious and the price is reasonable. So I was doubtful at first, but I am a fan, and I think we'll be back again. read more

First time at this restaurant. It's very spacious inside, which surprised me. On a hot summer day it was nice and cool in here. The service was excellent. Fast and friendly. They also have some of my favorite beer from Cali craft. I ordered a Hawaiian pizza. Yes I know that pizza experts don't like Hawaiian pizzas but I still love it. I had originally planned on a four-star review, but when I tasted this Hawaiian pizza I increased it to five stars. Plus the nice lady who gave me a beer flattered Me by asking for ID. That also gets five stars. The Standard Pizza is a little large for me. Next time I will get the mini pizza. The pizza is thin crust but still very tasty and it was delivered in just a few minutes. I did not time it but it could not have been much more than 5 minutes. I checked with one of the servers and they confirmed that 5 minutes is their standard delivery time. I have no idea how they do that but I appreciate it. read more

I came to these place to participate in my kids school fund raising and felt no warmness upon coming in. The young lady with long hair who was taking our orders was a bit rude and not so friendly. No smile upon greeting and was a bit annoyed when taking my kid's order. I can tell by her actions and facial expressions. Good thing that the young man who was there too to take our order was patient and kind enough to take care of our pizzas.This place needs more friendly staff and people who has great customer service skills. read more

The staff here is completely incompetent, and one guy with long brown hair is a lazy liar. I asked if the cauliflower crust was vegan. They had to ask four different people before someone said that the crust touches other things in the oven so they couldn't guarantee it was. I told them I wasn't asking about gluten free I was asking about VEGAN. Oooh no, it has cheese in it, they finally said. I then asked for them to verify that the vegan cheese was soy free. No one knew if there was soy! But the guy at the oven assured me their vegan cheese was "really pure" and he was sure it was fine. Not good enough, buddy. Really dangerous to be guaranteeing things are fine when health is concerned. Then the girl asked a guy with long brown hair to go back and check. So the girl built the pizza and at the end I asked her to add the vegan cheese on top if it was soy free. She asked the guy again (he hadn't come back to tell us what he found), and he said "yeah it has soy." So I didn't get to have any cheese on my pizza. A couple of minutes later after double checking the websites, where The Mod website says Daiya cheese is used... and the Daiya website says their products are soy free, I asked the same guy (long dark hair) directly if the label on the cheese really said soy. I told him we chose this dinner spot specifically because they were supposed to have soy free vegan cheese. He hemmed and hawed and said that he thought he saw soy on the box but he couldn't be sure if the soy was actually in the cheese or the box was just saying it may have soy. I asked again if he was sure it has soy. At no point did he offer to go back and check again or bring me the bag/box of cheese. Either this branch is going against the national chain and using a cheese other than Daiya, or he is lying that he even checked the label. I used to work food service, so I am pretty sure he got busy and forgot to check and then just lied. He made no sense when I confronted him about it. They also weren't sure if the mushroom pesto was vegan! They said "I think you're okay." Insane! Very simple questions that are very dangerous to get wrong. Also the broccoli wasn't just roasted it was completely black and burnt. Nice try, national, trying to have vegan options, but your chain is only as good as the staff you have locally, and they have no idea what vegan even means much less what is in their ingredients. This is my first visit to MOD Pizza at this location. I ordered a custom veggie mod pizza and the pizza came with lots of fresh veggies, such as chickpeas, grilled peppers, broccoli, spinach mushrooms artichoke hearts etc. I was really impressed with the Quality. For about $10 I got a custom pizza with all my favorite veggies. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. I will definitely be going back. This location is way better than the one out in Antioch-Pittsburg. read more

It was Monday 10/28/19, about 11.15am....... walked in. No customers. Four people behind the counter. One making pizza dough, one making a pizza for a pick up order, one cooking the pizza and another one near the cash register stocking up that area. My friend and I are standing there for about 5 mins. Nobody acknowledged us. The girl making the pizza dough looks us, doesn't say anything and continues to make the pizza dough. Finally a couple mins after that, the guy making the pizza finally acknowledged us. I couldn't believe it. It was almost 10 mins before we were waited on. At least say acknowledge and say we'll be with you as soon as we can. But 4 people behind the counter and nobody saying anything to us was ridiculous. Not good customer service at all. read more

Mega Dough - what a great option. Not a Chicago deep dish but a better pizza than the regular thin crust. Loaded it up with 2/3 of all their toppings and it held together very well. Cooked to perfection. Young lady pouring beer needed A LOT OF HELP. She held the glass a few inches from the tap and tried to pass me half a glass of head. When I complained, she tried again with no luck. So glad there was another team member to resolve my beer situation. Thank you for making that right! Overall, it was a good experience and a good pie. First of all, we were greeted within ten seconds of walking into this establishment by a guy named Justin. He was so friendly and patient! I literally watched this guy greet EVERYONE that walked in, and thanked everyone as they were on their way out! What great customer service! A gentleman with a beanie (didn't catch his name) was also very outgoing and helpful! He pointed out that if this was our first time there, he would go through the entire process topping by topping with me! Great group of individuals here at this location. I kid you not, the pizzas were out in less than 9 minutes! By the time we were done getting our drinks, they were calling out my name! OMG THEY SELL DING DONGS! BEST THING EVER FOR A SWEET TOOTH! I would normally give a place like this 2 (I'll elaborate below); however just because they have VEGAN cheese they are earning 2 free stars. I LOVED the fact that they have diary free cheese! THANK YOU! Why can't other pizza places do the same? I also really liked that they served the pizza on the plate rather that some cheap tray. The place overall looked super clean. Now to the reasons why I would have given them 2 starts: (if not for the vegan cheese) 1.The customer service is great; but since there are mostly (I want to say) high school kids working, it's a chaos. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they are hiring young kids. But there needs to be some sort of order here. I had to repeat what I wanted on my pizza (or didn't want) 3 times since the person who started my pizza went to get something out of the oven; someone else took over and then she came back then left again. Normal places I would have just walked out, but it was fun to watch the kids trying to multitask. Good learning experience for them. Also I wasn't going to let anything comes between pizza and I!! 2.I had to ask them to change gloves when they made meat pizza for the customer ahead of me. They did it without any issues (thank you), but I feel I don't have to ask. 3.The selection of veggies is not as big as other places. For example: where was sun dried tomatoes, broccoli, zucchini, eggplant? The list goes on..... 4.Now to the pizza: because of the chaos, they forgot my vegan cheese (WHAT?) Luckily I caught my poor pie just before it was getting into the oven. No big deal; but that meant the cheese was on top of all the veggies instead of the bottom to keep the veggies on the pizza. 5.They cut the pizza in 4 large pieces only, which was fine except that the cheese was on top of everything so when I tried to cut it into smaller piece, all the veggies fell apart. Eating here right now and I couldn't think of a reason to not give it 5-stars so... 5 stars it is!! The rating is based on the fact that it does just what it sets out to do- Super fast (& good pizza). It's not exactly a date night type spot with amazing ambiance or a relaxing sit-down restaurant but it's not supposed to be! It's perfect for a great quick bite and is amazing for when my kids get picky about pizza and I don't want to spend 30 minutes waiting around for one to be made. When I first started seeing MOD pizza's pop up around town it was mostly just a standard thin crust pizza in 2 sizes and the draw was that you pick out unlimited toppings from an endless variety of options to create the custom pizza of your dreams, all for just one reasonable set price! It was then cooked on the spot in their oven so it came out quickly. If pizza isn't your jam you could custom create a salad instead. More recently I've noticed the menu really expanding- there are now gluten free options (thank you MOD!), thicker crust options, and I think I even saw a cauliflower crust option today. My kids are big fans of the thicker crust (it looks amazing honestly) so they custom created their favorite version of that and I ordered a mini version of one of their specialty salad suggestions (roasted pineapple)- Perfect lunch! Also they have a great selection of CaliCraft beer at this location and this may sound random but they have the BEST crunchy crushed ice- it's worth ordering one of their fresh iced teas or lemonades to top off the experience... or just go in and order a drink solo on a hot summer day. read more

After an especially challenging hike, our group stopped in for pizza. We desperately needed food, especially carbs. Standard build your own pizza fare, chipotle style. And you can get as many toppings as you want. It's not a bad lunch deal, as you can get a good size pizza for about ten bucks. I got peperoni, sausage, tomatoes, artichoke, mushrooms, and probably some other stuff I don't remember. But they have pretty much everything you can imagine. Also I opted for red tomato sauce and mozzarella. But they also have other type of sauces and cheeses. And then don't forget the finishing sauces, you can put on there after your pizza comes out. Most people get the regular MOD size but they also have a small personal mini size and then a large mega size. I finished practically a whole MOD sized pizza on my own but like I said, we were all starving. I think I'm usually a half or three quarters of a pizza kind of gal. And salads are also available. VERDICT: While I think the food is about a 3 and comparable to places just like it (Pieology), the service and cleanliness bumped this up to a 4. We shall return! SUMMARY: Mod Pizza is yet another fast causal, made to order pizza place that fits the mold of places like Pieology and Blaze Pizza. To be quite honest, they all taste the same. So what's gonna set places like this apart will be the service. And the service and speed of service was excellent. FOOD: as mentioned, I didn't feel like there was a wow factor that differentiated this place from others. I ordered one the Mad Dog, which is a pepperoni and wild sausage thin crust pizza. Stupid me: I didn't take a pic because I was so hungry. Everything was just alright. SERVICE: very courteous and fast. ATMOSPHERE: extremely clean and tidy. Really appreciated this. Went to mod for the second time tonight. It was a completely different experience this time around. The staff, one employee in particular seemed stoned out of his mind. He was asked twice to pick up the pace, was told to put more sausage on a pizza and he didn't respond, and appeared as though this job was far to much responsibility. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against smoking a little weed, but if you're going to be stoned at work you need to be somewhat of a functional member of the crew. We ordered 4 pizzas, two were supposed to be pepperoni, that's it sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. They even write what goes on you pizza on the parchment paper. We figured how could they mess up that part of the order so went to pay instead of hovering over the glass watching 2 simple pepperoni pizzas be assembled. Eventually our order was ready. It was a "to go" order so we grabbed our boxes and went on our merry way. When we got home and excitedly opened the boxes my husband and I were dumbstruck. The two pizzas that were supposed to have pepperoni had all kinds of other toppings. There was pesto, red peppers, mushrooms you name it. They were both wildly different. MOD is pretty darn good! The 'Chipotle for pizza' trend has been a fun thing to participate in, seeing how different spots attack the same formula. And MOD does a nice job, their topic selection was varied and fresh, and they certainly move you through the line quickly and with a smile! **UPDATE - they have ricotta now, woohoo!** I guess I wasn't dazzled because it's really not difficult to find good pizza in this area, but to get basically a small pizza with no topping restrictions for around $7 is a major deal! I personally prefer Pieology for a simple and silly reason - ricotta. MOD offers asiago, but absolutely nothing beats the option of little fluffy pillows of ricotta on your quick-bake pizza. If MOD were to add that particular topping to their repertoire, they would steal me away. Friends and I visited on a Saturday night, and though the line was probably at least 20 butts long, we got through it in less than 10 minutes, scored a table, and were eating fresh hot pizza about 15 minutes after we walked in the door - not too shabby! My creation was the standard mod pizza with red sauce and cheese (I asked for extra, I need cheesy oomph on my pie), fresh basil, garlic, mushrooms, pepperoni and red onion. I'm pretty straightforward when it comes to pizza, but there are plenty of opportunities to go nuts, with a variety of sauces, fruit, veggie & wacky meat toppings, and a few different cheeses. They also offer a gluten free crust option. My only gripe is that it was LOUD in that place. It was full of people, so the energy was high anyway, but it's a large echo-y warehouse style space, and the workers calling out orders are quite gifted in the ol' lung department, they genuinely startled me a couple times. Your meal will be quick and tasty, but probably not relaxed! Overall, MOD does a nice job, and I definitely recommend them. Is there room for improvement? Sure. But not much! read more

Came here for dinner the other night. Was helped by a very friendly gentleman. He was attentive and patient as I placed 2 meal orders. The pizza was decent although I do prefer Pieology's pizza more. I think they're more generous with their pizza toppings. We got also got a salad and it was good but very expensive for the small amount of ingredients. My low rating is for the manager (?) or person in charge. She has pink-blondish hair which is cute but definitely not secured properly. She was swinging it all around the food and I just kept envisioning blonde hair in my pizza. She seemed very put out whenever an employee needed help. Like really loud sighing...quite a few times I caught the eyes of other customers who were clearly thinking the same thing. She had the same attitude when dealing the cooking pizzas. Even going as far as to walk away from a customer who was in the middle of their order to begrudgingly deal with switching around some pizzas in the oven. There are ready to order pizzas on the menu, but most customers seem to enjoy choosing their own ingredients. A nice selection of in-house and standard fountain drinks, along with beers on tap. Service: Excellent. Energetic staff aimed to please. Well staffed at the counter, the ovens, and all over the dining room. Not sure if this will be the case everyday. Ambiance: Good vibes. Menu: See photos. A lot of choices for ingredients. Price: $5.27 for the Mini, $8.27 for the Mod, $11.27 for the Mega. Seating: Plenty.
