The food is alright, but I have never been to a place where no less than 7 of the 10 employees were high as georgia pine! They can't even remember what you just ordered from the first person, even though it's written right in front of them. They clearly show signs of zero sobriety in their speech, eye contact, and body movement. Then comes the finish of your pizza. You better make sure they finish it with what ever you told the first person, because they don't even read the writing which is clearly in front of them. They'll just hand it off! I can't even tell who the manager is, because no one exhibits signs of leadership at all in this place. Pretty bad for a franchi And here I am again. Line out the door, with 3 people working after a football game. Impossible! Advice to Mod Pizza management. Do a better job!!! I ADORE Mod Pizza. You really can't beat a personalized pizza with unlimited toppings for $10. Not only that, the staff at this location is always super friendly and accommodating. Way more than I would be when having to work in an environment where there are undoubtedly a lot of picky and annoying customers. In assemble-your-own spots like this I'm the type of person who feels bad when I ask for more of something or too much of another, but they never make me feel like a bother which honestly goes a long way for the experience. Pro tip: don't pass up the chance to get a complimentary 'swirl' finish on your pizza! They've got a lot of tasty options (my favorite is buffalo sauce or bbq sauce depending on what kind of pizza you're getting) and it just takes the deliciousness over the top for me. read more

Not the best experience. I was super excited about trying this new spot, I love places like this. The aesthetic rocks and the prices are great. Plus, it's right by my house and the orchards have become my new local fav. Where it went wrong, -I made my own pizza full of vegan ingredients. When they put the red sauce on, there was cheese in the red sauce. (After I told her I'm lactose intolerant, I asked her to pick it off) -One of the people in my party only got half the ingredients listed on the preset pizzas they ordered. -The cashier had no idea how much any of the wine cost and was unable to tell us. -When I asked one of the employees if they have UK locations (there was a Union Jack on his MOD pizza shirt) he had no idea what I was talking about. -Lastly, when I got my pizza it was extremely spicy. I couldn't even finish because it was too hot. I hope the employees become a bit more educated about their restaurant. If you think this is great pizza you've never had great pizza. It's just about the same maybe nor even better then frozen pizza from Safeway. Of course you get the I can put anything on it choices, but that's about it. you're the mercy of whoever puts on the (tosses on) topping. I my case not arranged very well or not very well put together. As far as the toppings; well, they are mediocre at best. It's basically mass-produced custom pizza. Good only if you're in a hurry or just don't care about what you get. Overpriced, with cheap ingredients, rushed through an assembly line and left to get soggy in a cardboard box. Amazing staff and service! My friends and I went the day after Christmas to celebrate my birthday, and the staff was wonderful. My friend mentioned briefly that it was my birthday, and I didn't expect anything to happen. But the staff gave us each free drinks, and it doesn't end there. as we were enjoying the pizza that we each made (which was delicious), they came over with free dessert pizzas! They were cinnamon flavored and came with tree different types of dips - strawberry, chocolate, etc. They even wrote happy birthday on the side - it was so sweet. We stayed and chatted for a while and they came back and see if we wanted another dessert pizza. They totally made my day :) Definitely recommend this place! I came in hungry for a custom pizza, but what I got instead was burnt, disgusting pizza and a showcase of UNSANITARY FOOD PREPARATION AND GENERAL PRACTICES!!! At least 1 employee from the cash register touched pizza dough with his bare hands. The pizza makers did not wear hats or hair nets, they leaned close over the food, and they looked unclean. I witnessed a worker digging her BARE HANDS THROUGH THE GARBAGE BEFORE WALKING INTO THE KITCHEN, AND SECONDS LATER SHE CAME OUT HOLDING UTENSILS WITH HER DIRTY HANDS. (She had been picking up garbage that didn't fall into the trash can, presumably). She refilled the utensils section without washing her hands after digging through actual garbage. That's really disgusting. And what about the food I ordered? My pizza was so burnt it was inedible and I had to throw it out, while starving! And the final obvious annoying thing? The workers shouted obnoxiously across the place to eat other, thinking it's like a game, when it's really just annoying to customers trying to eat there. If you look at other Yelp reviews for this Mod Pizza, you'll see that many others have complained about their dirty, unsafe food handling practices and their annoying, shouting workers. Ugh. I just tried to go here for dinner, but it didn't work out. There was a line of about 10 people, which I thought would go quickly, but both of the employees were ONLY working on phone orders, and completely ignoring the customers in line. Maybe teach them to acknowledge the people waiting in line, or designate one employee for phone orders? It was horrible. They wouldn't even look up, and were just acting super busy. Wow! So very impressed. A tad overwhelming with so many choices. But that's a good thing. I just can never decide. It all looks so good. The best part is that they dont charge by the amount of toppings you get. They charge by the dough that you get. I got the mega dough. Which is the regular fluffy traditional style crust. Not thin crust. I believe it was 10.95. And you can pile on every single topping and the price stays the same. It was wonderful. My boyfriend and I have been coming to this MOD location at least 3 times a week, since it opened. What immediately impressed us, aside from the delicious food, was how chill, warm, and welcoming the staff are. Chris and Sarah-- you guys rule. From the very first day, we always felt like we were treated like good buddies. I love that. Needless to say, we're huge fans of the food too. When we don't feel like pizza, we go for a salad. When we don't feel like salad, we go back to pizza. I absolutely love their grilled chicken, especially in my salads. The options are plentiful, tasty, and ready to eat VERY quickly. If you haven't had a no-name cake, try one! I'm also a huge fan of their lemonades. And honestly, they're just so good to their customers. She was short and quiet at first but as she made my she was friendly and she even gave me my artichokes on the side like I asked. Which a guy who was also there looked quite annoyed and said that He would also have to charge me for a salad. But I did end up getting my artichokes on the side so I really appreciate that and I appreciate her smiling and giving me them in a small side. Overall the place was clean and quick with the Pizza. I took the kids here for an early lunch on a Friday when school was out. Early was smart because it gave us time to peruse the menu and see how this place worked without a line behind us. Essentially you order at the counter and add what you want to your pizza, while they make it in front of you. Now, you need to know I am VERY fussy about my pizza, because I am from NY where pizza is king. My kids are not so discerning. Bread? Sauce? Cheese? It's pizza to them. The staff are friendly and were willing to explain everything to us. We ended up getting three minis: plain, a pepperoni and for me, a Lucy Sunshine: garlic, artichokes with a dab of red sauce. Speaking of red sauce, it's a bit on the spicy side... I think a little less heat would be better for kids, but none the less, they ate it happily. Now on with the pizza snobbery: yeah, I get the concept. Fast made to order pizza. But that leads to a problem: The crust is a little too thin so it cooks fast... although it makes it crispy when you first get it, by the time you eat your second slice, the dough is soggy and limp. It's just not a great pizza experience when you have to keep picking up the toppings from the tray because they immediately fall off. The facility was clean when we went there. When they said they didn't have goat cheese and I let them know that I was lactose intolerant, they offered the lactose free cheese which lit my face up wonderfully. This is a staple for us when we need a quick bite to eat. Well, actually my kids love this place and they are quick! Depending on when you come there may be a pretty steep line but it does move relatively quickly. Always friendly staff that greets you when you walk through the door even when it's crazy busy. There are 3 sizes, a mini $5.47, Mod $8.47, and mega $11.47 which is a double crust but that defeats the purpose of the thin crust. We normally get (3) mods so we have leftover. We come quite often and occasionally the pizza misses where it gets over cooked or under and not crispy the way we like it. Picture a Chipotle for pizza similar to Pieology but better. All the toppings you want same price. Today the pizzas were on point. Cooked to perfection the crust was perfectly crispy. Overall a great place to grab a quick bite and choose exactly what you want if you disagree on toppings. Didn't get them tonight but the cinnamon strips are yummy too with cinnamon glaze. They also serve beer ($2 Tues) and make real ice cream milkshakes which are great. read more

I really enjoyed my food from here, but the service was not so amazing on this occasion. It was my first experience at MOD, and I noticed the layout and menu are similar to Blaze when we first walked in. It was busy, but it seemed like there was a significant delay in service. I think there was a new employee being trained, which was fine, but definitely slowed the entire experience. One of the other guys was very kind to the guests, but seemed to be annoyed with his coworkers. Again, understandable. I've been there, but when the guests are so close to the kitchen and everything can be seen, it's important to always keep every interaction professional. My vegan pizza was delicious, and I absolutely loved the wide variety of toppings available for vegetarians/vegans. It's also really cheap! It was ~$8.47 for my pizza, and I got at least seven toppings. The garlic rub is incredible, oh man. One star off because it took about forty minutes for the entire process to be completed, and I think a good portion of that time was due to the employees missing items, forgetting them, etc. I'll go back, but only if there's not a long line! read more

But today there were literally only two other customers in the restaurant, five employees, and yet it took longer to get my pizza than during the lunch rush when I normally go. They forgot to put my in the oven. They finally realized they never started to cook my pizza when my friend picked up his pizza. And... its only a short walk. We've also catered from here with various mega mods. Despite looking measely compared to more breaded pizzas, they fill you up quick. First time in Walnut Creek location Great concept I was cheerfully greeted as I walked in, waited before I was helped (only one in line) The person building my pizza was excellent, she explaining the ingredients, built it as I requested. The lower star rating is due to; 1. The person in charge of the oven was more interested in a customer/friend than his job. What disturbed me most is he handled the cash register then used his bare hand to pull the pizza off the peel. It happened more than just my pizza. And 2. They kept calling "pie out" (signaling someone to slice the pizza), it took longer than needed for someone to come out from the back to slice it (it was cooling on the table) Maybe the staff is less supervised at 4:00. This was my first time coming here and the main thing that drew me to try it was the "Super Fast" on their sign. When I went inside the atmosphere is very loud and chaotic. The noise echoes through the place like Chipotle. The way they greet everyone is one worker says welcome in or hey guys and then all of the other staff has to say hello as well when they are working their asses of with making pizzas and ringing up customers. There is only two people putting together pizzas with a line of about 20 on a Thursday afternoon. It took about 30mins of standing for me to get my pizza. The workers looked very stressed out from the fast paced chaos. Not going here again. read more
