    Macchiato

I was driving around as I saw this small bakery & cafe. I noticed it was relatively new. I went there a little bit after lunch around 1 PM. The cafe was pretty packed when I arrived there. I was greeted as soon as I entered and asked if I needed any help. I noticed that there was a gelato station in addition to the bakery and general cafe items. The cakes here reminded me of what I usually see at Asian bakeries. I ended up grabbing a Macchiato and Coffee Cake. I was handed a number and grabbed at an empty seat a table. The coffee + cake came out about 5 minutes after I ordered. Not sure I've ever had this kind of coffee before, but it was quite strong. The coffee cake had 3 layers of cake and then a tiny layer of coffee/vanilla buttercream between each one. Each of the cake layers were like a spongy texture. The bottom layer of the cake seemed like it was either soaked in coffee or espresso. The top two layers didn't seem like they had been soaked, but from what I could taste, they definitely had drops of coffee added. On the top of the cake, they had a thicker layer of coffee buttercream with chocolate. The cake wasn't overtly sweet and definitely had the coffee taste throughout the cake. I also noticed people near me eating injera and curry so that would be worth trying if I revisited. I would like to go back at a later time and try the gelato! The prices were reasonable and the quality of the food seemed good.

    Pastries and cakes on display.

I was looking for a new coffee shop when I stumbled across Moderena in a derelict, half-empty mini-mall in Richardson. This place definitely feels more like a diner, with booths and tables, and more like a pastry shop with an impressive selection of cakes and treats. There's a breakfast menu which features vague offerings such as a "full breakfast" and "scrumbled eggs" I tried a latte which was rich and very, very foamy. I also treated myself to a flaky sweet profiterole.

Beautiful ambiance, kind customer service, and delicious food and deserts here at Moderena! The owner is from Eritrea (East Africa) and makes incredible Italian inspired cappuccinos and pastries. The fuul here is delicious. Give them a try for a wonderful cafe experience.

Amazing coffee spot in a cool Walnut Hill complex…read more I like the vibe here and their coffee is always on point. I've only been during the day and always spend a little time working before a coffee meeting. The WiFi is always good and the coffee is great. The ambiance is very open and inviting as well. They serve small bites as well but I haven't really partaken. Additionally, I think they have several beers on tap and they appear to all be cool local brews. If you're looking for a good local coffee shop with a vibe, this may be your new spot!!

This coffee shop has quietly become my Dallas work-week crush…read more It's conveniently close to the office I'm using while I'm here, but the real draw is the vibe. Beautiful sunshine pours through big windows, there's a lovely park right outside, and the light is so good it feels like the café equivalent of a good hair day. Dallas weather helps, obviously--but this place knows how to use it. The space is lively without being chaotic. Plenty of outdoor seating, lots of indoor seating, and a very reasonable three-hour Wi-Fi window that keeps people working instead of camping. It feels intentional. People come here to stay, not hover in line. Speaking of which--there's never a line. They're clearly well staffed, everyone's efficient, and everyone is genuinely nice. Now, pastries. This is where they shine. A lot of unique options you don't see everywhere, and everything I tried was excellent. The almond croissant? Fantastic. The blueberry cake? A must-get. I went two days in a row (because obviously), and on day one they told me it was their most popular item. Day two, by 11 a.m., it was completely gone and kept selling out as soon as they tried to restock. That alone tells you what you need to know. The matcha is good--made from scratch, which I appreciate. Is it the best matcha I've ever had? No. It's better than Local Johnny's, but not quite on the level of Marin Coffee Roasters or Ralph & Rose. Still very drinkable and enjoyable, especially if you're settling in to work. What really sets this place apart is its personality. It doesn't feel like a cookie-cutter café or "insert minimalist coffee brand here." There's charm. Character. A little whiteboard with a joke about New Year's resolutions that made me smile. Small details, but they matter. Would I come back? Absolutely. I already did--twice. I'd recommend it especially for locals looking for a solid work spot, co-working with a friend, or anyone who wants to be productive without being bothered. If you're visiting Dallas briefly, this might not be a destination café--but if you're here for a bit and want a reliable, pleasant, sunny place to work and snack, this one's a yes.

The decor inside looked super cute, but I was in a rush to get to work, so I used the drive thru instead. They have a private parking lot. Besides having coffee and tea, they also sell breakfast all day. I had the sausage, egg, green chile, and cheese burrito - not the best burrito I've ever had, but tastes way better if you add the salsa. It's a quick way to get your protein fix in. I enjoyed my iced Mexican mocha; it wasn't too sweet or creamy. If I lived closer by, I wouldn't mind getting this more routinely. Oh, their service was surprisingly fast and efficient. They even gave me a free sticker from their sticker day. I'll definitely be back when I'm in town.

They do a free coffee for your birthday through the app too which is the best!! Especially since they don't make you redeem it the day of! The inside is nice, my one critique is that the mobile order pick up is at the same place at the register so if your picking up a mobile order the baristas don't realize you aren't in line to order. I don't like to be that person that shoves in front of others so I waited it out until there was a good opening but it could be more efficient if it's in another location :) The inside is nice and clean with lots of space! Super cute space, great music, and a cool, relaxed ambiance that immediately makes you want to stay awhile. There were about a dozen seats total and it was roughly 80% full, which felt lively without being chaotic. The two girls behind the counter were absolute sunshine--warm, bubbly, and genuinely welcoming. That alone made the experience feel good from the start. Service was also lightning fast; my drink was ready in under two minutes. Now, the letdown: the matcha. They don't make actual matcha here. Instead, it's a pre-made mix that gets heated and combined with whole milk. For matcha lovers, this is... disappointing. The flavor was extremely bland--drinkable, sure, but uninspiring. I'd have it again only if there were no other options nearby. And that's the thing--this location is very close to the Civic Coffee area, which makes it hard not to recommend going there instead if matcha is your priority. All that said: great ambiance, pleasant experience, friendly staff, and moderate pricing. Nothing bad happened here at all. Just don't come expecting a proper matcha moment--this one's more vibes than flavor.

I don't want to get into the details of this place, or their "values" but as someone who hasn't ever rated a church let alone a church cafe I'm telling you don't. Not if you're single. Not if you have kids. Just don't. You can think whatever you want from what I'm saying. Theres specific things that I've never heard full time employees say and then say they don't want their spouses to say. There are specific things that I've heard have happened in "Celebrate Recovery" that I've never heard as acceptable and definitely not legal that this church allows. I'm going to leave it at just simply "don't". Theres no way that if I had kids that I'd allow them to go into this church. Theres no misunderstanding. There is no exaggeration. Theres literal words that the leadership has said that they openly said they don't want their spouse to hear about. This isn't holier than though. This is "someone said the quiet part out loud... and it's not only pervy.... I don't want other people to see me with them if this is what they are hiding".
