I was driving around as I saw this small bakery & cafe. I noticed it was relatively new. I went there a little bit after lunch around 1 PM. The cafe was pretty packed when I arrived there. I was greeted as soon as I entered and asked if I needed any help. I noticed that there was a gelato station in addition to the bakery and general cafe items. The cakes here reminded me of what I usually see at Asian bakeries. I ended up grabbing a Macchiato and Coffee Cake. I was handed a number and grabbed at an empty seat a table. The coffee + cake came out about 5 minutes after I ordered. Not sure I've ever had this kind of coffee before, but it was quite strong. The coffee cake had 3 layers of cake and then a tiny layer of coffee/vanilla buttercream between each one. Each of the cake layers were like a spongy texture. The bottom layer of the cake seemed like it was either soaked in coffee or espresso. The top two layers didn't seem like they had been soaked, but from what I could taste, they definitely had drops of coffee added. On the top of the cake, they had a thicker layer of coffee buttercream with chocolate. The cake wasn't overtly sweet and definitely had the coffee taste throughout the cake. I also noticed people near me eating injera and curry so that would be worth trying if I revisited. I would like to go back at a later time and try the gelato! The prices were reasonable and the quality of the food seemed good.

I was looking for a new coffee shop when I stumbled across Moderena in a derelict, half-empty mini-mall in Richardson. This place definitely feels more like a diner, with booths and tables, and more like a pastry shop with an impressive selection of cakes and treats. There's a breakfast menu which features vague offerings such as a "full breakfast" and "scrumbled eggs" I tried a latte which was rich and very, very foamy. I also treated myself to a flaky sweet profiterole.

Beautiful ambiance, kind customer service, and delicious food and deserts here at Moderena! The owner is from Eritrea (East Africa) and makes incredible Italian inspired cappuccinos and pastries. The fuul here is delicious. Give them a try for a wonderful cafe experience.

I started with the croque monsieur, and it was exactly what I was craving. The cheese was perfectly melted and bubbly, and that hint of dill on top really pulled it all together. I also grabbed a slice of the lorraine quiche, which was incredibly savory with a crust that was so buttery and flaky it practically melted in my mouth. For dessert, the chocolate kouign-amann was a total standout, super crispy on the outside with those rich, sweet layers inside. I paired it with an iced chai latte, which was perfectly spiced and not overly sweet. They have a small outdoor seating section that is perfect for catching some fresh air while you eat. The whole experience felt so authentic and high-quality. I am already looking forward to my next visit!

They have a few tables and chairs inside and outside for sitting. The tarts are amazing and definitely recommend you take one to go. The croissants are delicious, buttery, and flaky. The coffee is a nice addition but, the main attraction is the bakery! The bakery is in the Bishop Arts area so, you can find some free parking depending on when you visit. On the weekends, the line will move fast so, don't be afraid to wait.

Missing French pastries after my trip to France Came here and tried Mango matcha iced drink was okay. Hard to eat mango slices with ice in the way Banana bread was amazing - caramelized on the top with banana and inside. I headed over and this was the first time since the expansion I had seen the updates. It was amazing to see in person. I ordered the lunch special and had the option to pick between caesar salad or mixed greens and I chose mixed greens. The soup of the day was tomato bisque. The sandwich options were tuna or chicken pesto and I went with tuna. While I waited for me to go I also got a sweet treat. I got the oatmeal cookie. Everything was so yummy and perfect amount of food. The salad came with a dressing on the side which I think was olive oil and lemon?

This time it was so fresh and flavorful and not too moist, crust wasn't tough - it was delicious!! So sad that I didn't remember to take a photo before I gobbled it up! My bestie ordered a blueberry muffin, then later a croissant sandwich. I didn't try them, but she loved them both. I ordered a latte and it was so good that I returned for another. We enjoyed our visit, people-watching and catching up. The place was very clean although small but most customers seemed regulars and just walked up with their dogs and/or kids and left, so mostly live close-by, it seemed. How nice to take a short stroll to retrieve a delicious treat. Can't wait to visit here again!

There was a huge assortment of danish, butterfly cookies, and a variety of other baked goods. We debated about which ones to buy and picked out our favorites. They were delicious and freshly made. Service was great and they were very patient as we tried to make up our mind on which pastries we were going to buy. Prices were average for what you would expect for a homemade pastry shop. The shop had a comfy feel with cute tables and posters on the wall. We would definitely go back for more baked goods.Yum!
