PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS CLINIC WITH YOUR PET'S LIFE. Look up Modern Animal Inc on BBB.org for their rating and complaints. Please don't believe any comment they post in response to my review. Look at the picture evidence I posted, and read every negative review you can find online about them because these are not just small mistakes they are making with people's pets. My dog could have lost his vision or experienced other injuries so if I can help save your pet by you not going here, then some good has come from this. Modern Animal scheduled an emergency appointment, instructed me to medicate my dog, and then abruptly cancelled on us. They told us they are trauma informed but in my opinion they operate more like a private equity vet. We were loyal patients here for a couple of years, and this was shockingly the third major negative incident I experienced with them. They are responding with a long comment blaming my dog and me. They can lie all they want but proof is proof. The Incident: I contacted them about an eye injury. They told me to schedule an urgent appointment and confirmed our appointment twice. They instructed me to give my dog medications with strong sedative properties (one of which is a Schedule V controlled substance in several states) to prepare him for sedation if needed. AFTER I administered these medications, they abruptly cancelled the emergency appointment. Even though they had just told me it was urgent, now they were telling me I could bring him to see a different vet at another location on Monday which was DAYS away. Because of their cancellation, I had to rush my dog to an outside emergency vet hospital to treat him. The emergency vet staff was deeply concerned and alarmed that Modern Animal staff had instructed me to medicate my dog and then turned us away. (see chat photos) The Excuses: When I asked for answers, management gave me four different, conflicting excuses: 1. They claimed he hadn't taken the meds the night before--which makes no sense for an acute, sudden emergency. 2. They claimed "continuity of care," which was instantly debunked by their own scheduling options. 3. They attempted to blame my dog by claiming he was aggressive (he is anxious), when his medical records from the last two years explicitly state he is a pleasure to work with and they told me he could see 2 other doctors at their other location on Monday. 4. A manager called a few hours later and left a voicemail saying I refused to see certain doctors, which contradicts two lengthy phone calls I had with scheduling. I clearly stated I would see anyone available because it was an emergency. Locked Records: After I raised all of this with them, understandably upset and panicked about the risks to my dog's health, they told me I could not go to that location anymore but could still take my dog to their other location. A few weeks later, they quietly cancelled our annual paid subscriptions for all of our pets without consulting or informing us. My bf called them asking why one of our prescriptions was being denied/not filled. Then they completely locked us out of the app, blocking our access to my dog's medical records and our chat history. I ended up asking my dog's previous vet to request his records. Giving meds with sedative properties during an acute eye injury without immediate veterinary supervision can mask critical symptoms and put a pet at immense risk. Bottom line, I was told to give these types of meds to my dog and then they refused to provide him with emergency care after having already accepted his appointment and telling me it was urgent he be seen asap. If you love your pets and want them to receive safe, ethical medical care, I recommend you avoid Modern Animal at all costs. read more

I really wanted Modern Animal to work, but after over a year with two elderly and medically fragile cats, they're no longer an appropriate fit for our needs. The biggest issue is lack of continuity of care. The veterinarian we had been seeing left, and we were never informed. No introduction to the new vet whatsoever. The vet tech we worked with also left -- again, no communication. Every interaction is with a different person who has no longitudinal understanding of my cat's cases. For complex cases, this is not just frustrating, it's unsafe. Modern Animal heavily promotes their messaging system, but in practice it feels hollow. Responses are often generic and clearly scripted. It rarely seems like anyone has reviewed my pets chart before replying. The answers are canned and impersonal, sometimes asking me things that I already stated in the initial message. It often felt like advice I could look up online. The $169 per pet membership model is also deeply disappointing. While marketed as offering "value" and "access", in reality it ONLY waives exam fees. Everything else is billed separately, often at high cost, and even very basic, low-effort services are treated as billable "procedures." Example: Libre sensor placement for diabetes is $100 here, but $0 at other practices I called. A spot check of glucose is $23 here, but $10 elsewhere. It would be one thing if these were the only costs incurred, but these high costs PLUS a per pet annual membership fee has me scratching my head. Also during my last clinic visit, my cats' nails were trimmed without my consent and I was billed for it. Incidents like this, combined with inconsistent care, make the membership feel like a constant nickel-and-diming model rather than the "all-access care" it's advertised as. To their credit, after I raised concerns, they did offer a partial goodwill refund, which I appreciated. If your pet is young and healthy and you just want convenient access, this might work. But if your animal has any medical complexity and needs thoughtful, consistent care, I would strongly recommend considering all options first. read more

My pet insurance falsely denied a large claim and is fighting me tooth and nail and not only did Shayna personally send them a letter asking them to appeal the claim but provided a bunch of extra documentation in support of me and my pet. She is a great advocate for my pet and worked hard during her own workday to set aside time to assist me. I am forever grateful to have her and the modern animal team in my corner. I was torn about the 5-star rating here because I'm honestly bummed that the Burnet location just closed, forcing me to drive that much further here and deal with that all the traffic with an ency pup in tow. Still, I can't fault them for the quality of the care. Same great people in staff, same quick responses in person, on the phone, and on the app, same thoughtfully designed lobby with treats for humans and dogs alike. The parking turned out to be pretty simply; drop your car in the McBee Garage and there's a code to scan at the front desk to validate for 2 hours free parking. Modern Animal is the best vet I have taken my animals to in over 20yrs! Staff have been trained in techniques for calming and soothing techniques. I feel like everyone there treats my pets as if they were their own. We always see Dr Womack and she is wonderful! Earlier this year, she helped us in caring for our 14yo cat that had kidney disease. When our baby passed, we brought her to the clinic and they arranged cremation. The tech asked if I wanted some of her fur clipped to save, so I will always have a small physical reminder. The company cremating her had great options available and we feel like ChiChi was respected and handled with care. This visit, our obese, highly anxious cat had eye drainage. I had to drop her off for most of the day, due to my schedule. Usually, when Cassie is taken to the vet, she hides under the bed when we get home. This time, she went and stared at the under bed area, but decided to stay out. They made her feel so comfortable she was actually mostly relaxed and affectionate on the ride home. Doctor and staff were very kind. Their site lists a urinalysis for dog as 126$, but i was charged almost 330$ for urinalysis plus exam fees. If there are different options for urinalysis, i wasn't offered those which i thought was disappointing. Further they send out to an outside lab so said it would take 5-7 days by which point the infection would be naturally cured so what's the point of finding out the sensitivity to different antibiotics in such a long time that it is no longer needed? Edit: the practice manager reached out and refunded part of the difference in cost so kudos for that (and turned out there was no bacteria in the basic test which came back already so IMO would not have needed the extra bacteria sensitivity tests anyway) read more

I just started using this location, good care, friendly, but very difficult to contact and communicate, there is no way to directly contact the office except going through a call center which can only send messages to the office, very uncomfortable when trying to find out about my pet's status, and the same happened when just calling for info, each time, no person in the center answered my call, and long times in getting a call back. The website is not user friendly for getting records, this is a bad model for healthcare in any sense. I have low confidence in their 24/7 ability for care and certainly in emergencies. I'd give them 10 stars if I could! Today I took my sweet Kira to this amazing vet clinic, and as always, we had such a great experience. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so kind, welcoming, and quick to help us. Kira was having some skin issues and itchiness, and Dr. Womack was incredible. She really took the time to listen, explain everything clearly, and suggest what was best for Kira. She ended up needing a shot, and the way they handled her was so gentle and caring. no stress at all! The whole staff is just wonderful. Dr. Womack and her assistant were so sweet and patient with all my questions, and you can tell they're super knowledgeable and truly care about what they do.
