He wasted my dog's life because he couldn't properly diagnose her. She had to go to the hospital and she's being hooked up to an IV right now. Literally just go to a pet hospital. He disappears in the back for like 20 minutes and you think he's died. Not to mention, he seems deaf and you have to talk super loud. read more

We had such a good experience here. My dog had a urinary tract infection and we were able to be seen on the same day (a Saturday). The veterinarian that owns this clinic is wonderful. He is old school and gets straight to business. We will definitely be back for future visits! read more

This vet is very old school but very thorough and kind to the pets he treats. My husband and I were quite pleased.

Honestly, don't mind the phone call when you call him. He doesn't sound happy on the phone but he's a great veterinarian the least. First off, don't be fooled by Dr. Jones' tone on the phone. While I was there to get our two cats a checkup, shots, some flea meds, etc., someone called to make an appt., and thought he didn't sound very nice or something. This couldn't be further from the truth. As other reviews have indicated, he is a warm and capable vet who cares deeply for the animals he sees. He has a slow, southern drawl that could be misinterpreted as being gruff over the phone, but I believe seeing him work with your animal(s) in person will change your mind. Do you want to be coddled and told your animal is the most precious creature to ever walk the face of the earth or do you want straight forward scientific proven results at a more then reasonable price? Well if Fluffy demands a long list of requirements (he can only be approached from the left side if his head is resting at a ninety degree angle from my right shoulder while being sang "my heart will go on") this my not be your vet of choice (not to say Dr. Jones is uncaring). I worked as a vet tech for five years and this is the vet I want. He works alone. He is the vet, the vet tech and the receptionist. The owner can help but he is more then capable of handling animals alone. He schedules his appointments so that it's just you and your animal. Smart! Nothing can get a cat more worked up then a bunch of barking dogs in the lobby or an unsociable pup forced to be around rambunctious youngsters in an unfamiliar setting. He's old school, slow and steady, with a confidence that calms both animal and owner. No unnecessary test and vaccines. Less stress, low key, gruff voice, awesome belt buckle, all around good ol boy country vet. Seriously good veterinary practice run by a man every California transplant wishes their dad could be. Oh and awesome little side note. Sends you a pet ID card with a picture of your pet, vaccine info, rabies info and allergies in case you ever have to go to an emergency vet. read more

Dr. Jones is wonderful. I have a rescue dog, Zoe, and we needed to find her a vet. She only needed a checkup and to get started back on heartworm medicine. He even called her previous vet and got her rabies record and made her a new tag, since her foster mom had lost her first one. And, he only charged me for her medicine, not the visit. Dr. Jones is patient, kind and genuinely cares about animals. I called worried that one of my dogs had kennel cough after boarding and made an appointment. A few hours later, I realized my other senior dog maybe had it too. I called him back and he let me bring in both of them at the last minute, which was very accommodating - other places I called couldn't get me in for a few days with two dogs. He did not do any unnecessary tests, listened well and entertained all of my questions. He was so gentle and lovely, especially with my elder dog who is typically just so terrified of the vet it becomes an ordeal. Very reasonable pricing, and I was in and out in less than one hour. I could really tell how much he cared about my dogs as individuals (I'm not one of those people who calls my dogs fur babies or anything, but they are members of our family and we love them so). My injured dog was turned away from Dr. Jones because it was almost noon on Saturday. My pup was playing outside that morning when I suddenly heard him crying out in pain. I ran outside to see him limping up to the house, bleeding pretty badly from his front paw, and shaking with fear. South Austin Pet Clinic is the nearest veterinarian, so I rushed him over in the car and double parked to run in and get help. I was really scared but felt relief when I opened the clinic's unlocked front door. I was crying with blood on my hands and shirt from cradling my dog, but no one was in the front office. After a moment, I saw Dr. Jones peek his head out from the back and I asked him if he could help me. I said "I have a little dog in my car and he has a hurt foot and is bleeding. Can you help us?" This veterinarian told me to try another clinic because his was closing at noon. I can look past a man seeing a visibly upset human pleading for help, but when I told Dr. Jones, a well respected VETERINARIAN, that an animal was in distress and right outside of his clinic door, he turned us away. I cannot understand how someone who has devoted his life to helping animals could do this. I guess my dog wasn't worth his help? Or maybe when Dr. Jones took his oath swearing to prevent and relieve animal suffering, he meant "only until noon." read more

We began bringing our bichon, Princess Leia to Dr. Jones as soon as we adopted her from the Austin Animal Center in December 2014. Dr. Jones is a kind, gentle, caring doctor who practices traditional methods for treating our Leia. He has properly diagnosed and treated her thyroid issue to balance her weight and works with her through the various allergy seasons. Getting an appointment is easy, he's reasonably priced because he has little overhead (I.e. no staff) and he is always happy to see Leia. I would recommend Dr. Jones if you're not happy with your current vet. read more

Went to Dr. Jones this morning for my free staple removal and wellness check. My puppy's, I mean. This is a no frills office. No frills, no receptionist, no waiting, no pressure to spend more money than I agreed to (which was zero, since I was given his office number by Town Lake Animal Shelter as one of the places I could get some free services for the new puppy I adopted), no mindless chitchat. Dr. Jones isn't necessarily reticent, but he's clearly first and foremost a veterinarian, not a businessperson. I love that. He gave good advice, was kind to my pup, was friendly in a Grandpa Jones kind of way (you know, Hee Haw?) and even gave me a rope toy for pup pup after I mentioned I was thinking of buying one. We'll definitely go back. This is a God-send after being cleaned out, turned away, and pressured by some other vets in town. Thanks, Doc! read more

My lab mix split her nail and was in tons of pain on a Saturday (of course, they always get hurt when your vet is closed) so I called the closest vet, which turned out to be Dr. Jones. He said he closed at noon, and it was ten til, but he waited on me, and took care of my dog's issue in about 3 minutes. He charged me next to nothing, and in this day and age, that was very refreshing. He is pretty quiet, definitely not a big chatter, but kind and competent, and REASONABLE and fair. I had to take my 10 year-old Chihuahua last Saturday on an emergency basis. My vet was booked so I called Dr. Jones (he answers his own phone) and he gladly agreed to see my dog. Dr. Jones is a man of a few words, but a very caring man. He examined my dog, gave me some medication and the visit including medicine cost all of $57! I have been taking my cat to Dr. Jones for about 14 years. He is always kind and patient with my cat, and my cat can be a handful. (My cat is not friendly and really does not like being at the vet.) He has treated my cat for cuts and an abcess on his leg. Always caring and very easy to talk to about treatment, etc. He is fair in his pricing and I trust his expertise. He even helped me find an eye specialist for my cat when he got a very bad infection (from a boarding facility). There is only one or two good eye specialists that can work on a dog or cat. So glad he is close and ready to help when I need it. read more

Dr. Jones is an old school vet, which is very appreciated with this family! He operates his practice on common sense, kindness and his years of experience, instead of the holistic, expensive testing/medication approach, which seems to be popular these days. Last year our tiny dog had her first rabies shot and had a pretty bad anaphylactic allergic reaction to it when she got home. Even though we called right at 6, when his office closes, he answered the phone and then stayed open and waited for us to get there and administered an epinephrine shot that immediately got rid of the severe facial swelling, hives and itching she was having. This year, he remembered last year's reaction and administered the epinephrine shot prior to her rabies shot and there were zero issues for her. Our 7 pound dog is very picky about who she allows around her (she was a rescue), but Dr. Jones is one human she is comfortable around, which speaks volumes about his care and love of the fur babies he treats and of his personality.
