I Love My New Used Car & I Love The People I Bought From! After endless searching, I found the car I really wanted at a place called Modern Mazda. When I called, a man named John Salmon answered the phone. We talked for a bit about the car, and I explained I was trying to set up a few test drives in the area. The tone of our conversation was warm and relaxed, and he was very accommodating as I put together a schedule for the day. He offered that I call him by his nickname, Fish, which made me smile. When I got off the phone, I didn't feel so frazzled by all the choices, challenges and chaos of car shopping, which was very nice. I had arranged several test drives on the same day because of how far away I live pretty far from this cluster of dealerships, so I arranged several test drives on the same day. And of course, each test drive took a little longer than expected. Fish understood when I pushed back our apt, and greeted me warmly when I arrived. We talked about the car and what I was looking for. He asked me very thoughtful questions about my routine and and requirements, which really helped me understand my own decisions. He told me about the car's history and service record. And then it was time to go for a drive :) :) :) The test drive was great! The car was waiting just outside the office, looked spotless & had that lovely New Car smell. He gave an overview of the 'need to know' stuff, I adjusted my seat and got a feel for the clutch. Fish allowed me to explore & adjust untill I was ready. I pushed the ignition button and then we were off. Modern Mazda is located up Rt. 8, in the heart of Connecticut. The 2 lane highway curves through the forrest and rolling terrain. It's woodsy, way up in the sticks, and it's a really fun area to drive around. This type of terrain will put any car through its paces. Tight curvy backroads and long, smooth highways where you can really open the throttle. I hear that State Troopers in the area might let you go 79[mph], but not any faster. Good reminder. (***This statement is an assumed opinion with no real validity ) We drove around for about 25min. Liking this car more and more every minute. By the time were done I was in love with the car. But I still wasn't sure if it was within my realm. So we talked. He worked with me to make owning a practical reality. At first I wasn't sure I could swing it, but I came away a proud new owner. I have a great deal of gratitude for my experience with Fish at Modern Mazda. After the paperwork and registration was complete, I was given a tour of their services and maintenance facilities. I'll be frank here, the tour was a bit exhaustive. You can tell by looking at the facility that they offer full service, but the manager showing us around was intent on explaining every service offered. He also introduced me to about 3 people,like a welcome to the fam ceremony. I kinda just wanted to drive my new car. That said, I wish they weren't so far away, because I was really impressed with their facility and presentation. I just read the reviews that were posted here, and I am so sorry to hear of peoples negative experiences. I have had nothing but good experiences. I purchased a jeep( used) for my son a year and a half ago, and it was a no nonsense transaction. The salesman ( Ali) was professional, and considerate. My son has been very happy with his vehicle. A year and a half later I was considering purchasing a vehicle for myself. I wanted something with all wheel ( or 4 wheel) drive, and fuel efficiency. I had not looked anywhere. I knew I had a good experience at Moden Mazda, and ( Ali) so that is where I decided to go. It is conveniently located for me ( if I ever need service) but I can go to any mazda dealer. I arrived at the dealership, and Ali not only remembered me ( a year and a half later) he also remembered my son, and even recalled stories I had shared with him. That confirmed to me, that I was in good hands. He does what he promises, and once again, the transaction was pleasant and positive. I purchased the car that I wanted, and even though Ali was very busy on the day that I wanted to take delivery ( which is a testament to his salesmanship) He was upfront with me about how busy he anticipated being that day, which allowed me to decide to go at a time that would work for both of us. When I arrived , he had a few customers ahead of me, as well as about 7 or 8 sets of keys on his desk ( for people taking delivery) and he was apologetic. I was so happy to see he was busy, which means he was not only connecting people with their dream cars, he was being successful at his job.. He offered me pizza while I waited, which I was so grateful for, as I had skipped lunch. The manager was very personable, as was everyone I came in contact with. **DO NOT ALLOW MODERN MAZDA TO HANDLE YOUR FINANCING - THEY ARE DISHONEST** I recently purchased a Pre-Certified Used 2015 Mazda 3. When I sat down to "do the numbers" with my Salesman "Fish" my monthly payment was based on an estimated 4.99% interest rate with a $1000 down payment. I mentioned to Fish that I have excellent Credit, he said the rate would be lower if that were the case. When it was time to sit with the Sales Manager, Crystal, the document she handed me showed a rate of 5.99% which in my opinion is very high considering Crystal also showed me my Credit Report which has me with a score of 813. I questioned her about the high rate at which point she went on her computer and claimed she was corresponding w/the bank. She said it could be lowered to 5.49% and her reason behind this was because I was actually putting $2000 down instead of $1000 they could give me the lower 5.49%. She also told me banks handle financing differently on Used vehicles, rates are generally higher. I should have gone with my gut feeling and not signed the document! In my opinion the dealership could have offered me a much lower rate based on my Credit Score alone. I went back to the dealership to speak with a Manager, I believe his name is Mike. I explained my concerns regarding the high interest rate, he basically told me to refinance the loan. So now I have to deal with the hassle of refinancing the loan and pay the fee associated with refinancing! I've learned a lesson, do your research BEFORE going to the dealership. Google "Dealership Fraud" and see how dealerships can make money off unsuspecting customers by increasing the interest rates! I got screwed but hopefully this review will prevent it from happening to someone else. read more

Bought a 2012 Mazda3 from this dealership and I am very happy to have it. My salesperson was Crystal, a friendly and very patient person. The entire experience was pleasant with almost no issue, and nothing about it felt rushed or pushed by her or the dealership. The first day I got there, I test drove the vehicle I planned on purchasing while she explained the car in detail. Overall she was knowledgeable and seemed like she cared more about the customer than making a car sale. When the time came to purchase the vehicle, I had asked for a hold to be put on the car as I got my finances in order. Although the hold was never specified on how long it would last, I asked for an extension as I could not make it to the dealership on the original day. There was no hassle whatsoever. I also greatly appreciate their agreement with the card portion of our payment. Throughout the whole time that I was planning to purchase the vehicle, Crystal was walking me through the process via email. Anything that she needed was communicated well in advance and anything I asked was answered. The only issue that I ever had was one of the electronic keys not working. The physical key on the device worked, but I could not remotely unlock or lock the doors with it. I did not really mind since it was my spare key anyway, but the dealership insisted on fixing it and solved the problem quickly. Went to Modern Dodge Ram just to look around!! You know how that goes. I was greeted with professionalism and a great smile. Ali Riley of modern asked what we were looking for. He gave us some time to explain without interrupting us at all. We weren't sure if we were looking for something used or new. Ali showed us a couple new trucks in which we were getting excited about. We never felt rushed and Ali was very patient with us. It was the first time we ever looked for a vehicle and didn't feel intimidated and he never made me feel like I had to make a quick decision. I was not pressured at all. He offered us to take the new truck for a ride. Well of course we fell in love with our new RED RAM 1500 night edition. I have to say that everyone at the dealership including the girls who worked at the desks were so personable and friendly. I was never so relaxed buying a vehicle like I was at modern. I felt like I knew Ali forever. Straight shooters no tricks no false advertising couldn't of had a better experience. We traded in our mazda MX5 and was more than happy with our trade in value. I was recenlty (December 2012) in the market to buy a car. Initially, I was interested in the Ford Edge. While on my way to Litchfield Ford, I stopped in at Modern Mazda and checked out the Mazda CX-9. The salesman (Vinny) was extremely polite and was very helpful. He had the answer to most of my questions and if he didn't know the answer, he got the answer for me. After going for the test drive, my wife and I were both impressed with the CX-9. I later met with the manager (Dan) who was also extremely polite and knowledgable and gave me a great price on the car. I told them that I still wanted to check out the Ford Edge and they gave me no pressure to buy and told me to come back if I was still interested. To make a long story short I went to two ford dealerships and met some of the worst salespersons and business persons I have ever dealt with in my life. My wife and I simply decided that we were no longer interested in looking for a Ford Edge due in part to the poor customer service at the two Ford dealerships. They just couldn't be trusted. We made the decision that we would buy the CX-9 not only because we liked it better but also because we felt that we were treated right by the staff at Modern. They made us feel comfortable doing business with them, and I plan on doing business with them in the future. I recently bought a 2010 Mazda 3 from Modern Motors and I had a truly great experience. I started out looking at Mazda 3's online and came across some attractive pricing at Modern Motors. I emailed one of the salespeople, Kim G., and she got back to me in literally under 15 minutes. I was very impressed by her alacrity and so I decided to head down to Thomaston, 50 minutes away, and test drive the cars. When I got there, Kim immediately greeted me by name and got us out the door and looking at cars quickly. She was courteous, amiable, and professional, and we quickly determined which Mazda 3 best fit my needs and my budget. She did not waste time and was knowledgeable in all aspects, whether it be the history of the vehicle, facts about gas mileage and warranty options or features of the vehicle. After a test drive, I decided that I really liked the car and wanted to buy. I was trading in an older minivan as part of the deal, and I was really hoping to get a good price. Though I was a little nervous about negotiating as a first time buyer, the business manager was very willing to work with me and after a thankfully short set of negotiations, we arrived at a very fair price. I've bought two Mazda CX-5s from Modern and been very happy with the way the sales process has gone in each instance. I actually had the first vehicle. a 2014 (purchased in 2013), for three years, and had no plans for a new one because I still had two years to go in paying off the loan. However, out of the blue, I was contacted in May 2016 by my original sales rep, Kim Gelada, who proposed the idea of my upgrading to the latest model and said she thought it could be arranged that my monthly payments would be about the same (provided I made another down payment comparable to my original one). Needless to say, this sounded appealing since I drive a lot for my job, and had put nearly 90,000 miles on the car during those first three years. What I probably appreciated the most, however, was that Kim took a low-key sales approach and did not apply any pressure once I indicated some interest. I actually waited several weeks to get back to her, and when I did, the low-interest rate she'd offered me was about to expire because it was the last day of the month. Not wanting to pull the trigger quite that quickly, I decided to wait and see if the same interest rate would be available the next month. When Kim learned that was the case, she called me back the following day and then arranged for a car in my desired color to be delivered within about 10 days. read more

Great experience at Modern Mazda! I do not like the process of buying a car but John "Fish" Salmon was great from start to finish. He is very warm, not pushy and an all around good guy. He listened to us and tried to find what we wanted in a car and within our price range. He never tried to push us into something we did not want or BS us into buying a different car (just to make a sale). When we originally could not find the car we wanted, for the price we wanted, we told Fish that we would need to go home to discuss and would be in touch. He did not try to keep us there and try to "force" us into buying a car that day - he was very professional. Unlike every other dealership we have dealt with, Fish did not hound us, in fact he did not contact us for about a week (other dealerships texted, e-mailed and called daily). When he did contact us, he was not too pushy, he simply asked us if we had found a car yet and if not, he would like a chance to earn our business. Once we were ready, we e-mailed Fish to let him know that we were still interested and he called us with pricing on the exact car that we were looking for. I recently purchased a used suv from Shakers Modern Mazda in Thomaston.I had great luck with an accord I purchased there a few years ago so when it came time to buy I put this dealership on my list. The building itself is a 1st class modern facility . My salesman Jose Medina was extremely knowledgeable and helpful not trying to push me in to buying. You can tell he's been In the business for many years. He really knows how to treat his customers right! The vehicle I purchased is 7 years old and it had a few small things that I brought to their attention and they were fixed at no charge, no hassle . When I told them my wife was working and not available to see the car they offered to bring it to her. Something I never experienced at any other dealer. The manager Mike Belval was extremely helpful again not pushy just offered to do whatever was needed so I was happy with my purchase . Financing was a quick an easy process with some great rates offered. It's no wonder the Shaker family has so many Dealerships they know how to treat their customers! Happy with my experience back in 2014, and service of my 2015 CX-5 at this location through the life of our ownership, we decided to trust the team at Modern Mazda once again. Our Sales Associate, Nicole Mercier, listened to our family's needs and worked with us on our hefty demands. When I want something specific, there are usually (important) reasons why and I cannot budge While they did not have the CX-9 that I was looking for on their lot, with the help of her colleague Mike, the Sales Manager, they secured the car of my many wishes against time restraints that all of us had. LOVED MY EXPERIENCE HERE! This was the first time I went car shopping on my own without hubby or my parents. I knew what kind of car I was looking for but had no idea if it would fit in the budget. This is my second car in 10 years that I have drove off the lot from Modern Mazda. My first car I purchased brand new in 2006 which was a Mazda 6. I had nothing but good luck with it from day 1. 10 years later and 160,000+ miles, it was time to upgrade. Jan 2016, I upgraded to a 2016 CX-5 (Touring) and I am very pleased with it up to this point. Although it's a lease, I am confident in the Mazda brand and Modern Mazda as a retailer. The sales rep that worked with me on this lease was John "Fish" Salmon. He was very nice and helpful in what I was looking for in the car and getting me the right price. I never felt pressure from John nor the dealership into making any final arrangements. For my first oil change, John stopped by in the waiting room to say hello and see how everything was going with the car which was very nice of him to do during his busy day. My one and only complaint was the offer made on the trade-in of my car. I felt it was way too low and completely off from what I researched. From the second my saleswoman, yes saleswoman Nicole reached out to me she was over the top genuinely friendly and understanding to my situation and over the top professional. I am a tough customer. I do my research. That's how I know I made the right choice purchasing my vehicle from Modern Mazda Dodge RAM. You have to gain my trust before you earn my business. That's exactly what the sales associate Vinny did. I do not live near this dealership so the sales process was largely done over the phone and via email. Vinny took multiple videos of the pre-owned vehicle I was considering, not only showing me the car's beauty and features but also pointing out a few minor flaws - which should be expected in a used car. I experienced other dealerships trying hide or "spin" defects in cars they were pushing. I greatly appreciated the transparency Vinny and his dealership demonstrated. Vinny provided helpful follow-up rather than high pressure badgering. When I finally made the trip to see the car in person, it was in even better condition than I expected. We just purchased a 2014 Mazda CX-5 at Modern, and I could not be happier. We began our car search at Lee Partkya in Hamden, and we ended up walking away, extremely unhappy with how we were treated. We pushed on in our car search, discouraged. I found Modern online, and saw that they had a decent selection of used CX-5's, so we decided on a whim to take the drive to Thomaston. Our salesman, Ali, was up front, accommodating, knowledgable, and kind. At NO point did we feel any sort of pressure. At the time, Ali was clearly extremely busy, juggling a few other customers (we did not give much notice that we would be coming in), and yet we still received more attention than we got at Partkya. Closing the deal was simple. We were extremely pleased with how the car was priced to start, and we received a fair price for our trade. The finance manager, Mark, was also a delight to work with. I was introduced to Kim Gelada who knew exactly which car I was talking about; she knew all the specifications and background information regarding the vehicle I was interested in.. She treated me with the utmost respect and was courteous, polite, and professional. She let me take it for a test drive and kept me informed the entire trip. I recently bought a Mazda CX 5 and had the most positive and amazing experience I have ever experienced with any dealership! The sales person, Miguel Hernandez, really took the time to listen what I wanted and explain the different options. He was friendly and I never felt pressured. After I decided on the Grand Touring, Miguel had me test drive the car and told me to "drive like I normally would to get a real feel of the car." His personal attention to detail and patience in making sure all my questions were answered, really impressed me and my son Marc. Miguel wowed me so much with his expertise, quality customer service, and vehicle knowledge, I returned later that day to complete the sale.
