I got my nails done today for the first time at Modern Nails. Rose did an amazing job with my acrylic nails, and she is also very sweet and kind. I love the burgundy matte color she used, and the fun spooky Halloween design she put on my ring fingers. Definitely the best nail artist in Santa Barbara! Went there Friday was pretty busy, my tech's name was Jessica. She seemed a little distracted the whole time. Then she cut me really bad and it bled a lot. She kept saying I was just cutting extra skin off and this shouldn't have happened. It's Saturday night and it still hurts and was bleeding, had to put bandaid on hence the two bubbles. I went to Modern nails after work on 12/20/2019. The staff was very friendly but the nail technician who was assigned to do my nails didn't seemed pleased to be doing mine. The quality of nails was horrid and for anyone who has had acrylics done you know that they typically last 4-6 weeks (if they are great). Well this was not the case. I went home and relaxed for a bit just avoiding looking at the unpleasant work done on my hands. I began to make dinner when one nail just fell off and I made no big deal of it and figured I'll get it fixed. It wasn't until I went to shower and started to wash my hair when they all started collapsing onto my head and getting stuck in my hair. Not only was the quality horrible but the artwork behind it was too (pictures for reference). Please modern nails train your employees to do better work. I'm sure you have great artist and great nail technicians but if someone cannot do the work that is being asked for ask the customer to come back when someone more experienced is available. I went in today 12/21 to ask for a refund and the woman was very friendly, she offered to get redo my nails by someone else but I'm not available due to work so I politely asked for a refund. She stated that her receptionist will call me and refund me the $50 that was spent the night before. I am still waiting for that call and will update my yelp review once I get my refund. read more

Came in for a gel manicure, once I sat down she started doing a dip powder on me. I kept telling her I wanted gel not dip powder. Once she was done dipping all my nails in the powder she said "oh, this is going to be expensive" but didn't mention the price. When I walked in I showed her the exact picture of what I wanted... sadly didn't get. Here I am $50 later with nails that I don't like and that didn't want. Also, I went with my mom and sister, we all noticed the supplies they used on us were all dirty & when they were done using them on us, they just wiped them off with a dry towel and put them in the drawer. Don't go here. I keep getting disappointed. I went in several months back to get dip nails, they did a poor job to the point where the top shiny coat was chipping off within the first two days and the nails were cracking a week later. Fast forward to coming in to get another set of dip nails removed today....The person removing the polish told me it was $10 at the end of my appointment. I asked him to add a $5 tip to the total. He charged me $15 and added a $5 tip. When i pointed out the error, he kept fighting me and telling me he said $15. This guy essentially helped himself to a $10 tip today. It's not really about the money, it's simply the principle and the dishonesty of the whole situation for me. I'm dissappointed in that. I will not be coming back. read more

I've been coming to Modern Nails for about 15 years, and have brought friends and family with me. Lately I've been disappointed. Today, even with an appointment my pedicure was rushed. The technician tried to upsell me a higher cost service (which is fine, no harm in asking!) but when I declined she proceeded to skip the massage which was included with the level I paid for. She did spread a little lotion on my legs AFTER applying polish to my toenails. When I got home I had to remove stray polish from my skin. I'm going to try someplace different next time. Foot & leg massage is my favorite part of the pedicure, and although it's been kind of cursory before, today it was skipped entirely. read more

I got the #12 which is a deluxe spa pedicure and manicure and it did not disappoint. It included a foot, leg, arm, and hand massage as well as paraffin wax treatment for hands and feet. Bubbles and smudges in the paint and crookedly cut nails.You go to get your nails done to relax and be pampered. With their rushed energy it's impossible to do that.
