I recently moved to the area and was in dire need of replacement pair of glasses that I lost in the move. "Modo Optometry" happened to be near my residence and I was EXTREMELY pleased with "Dr. Mona Lu". Dr. Lu was very "professional", "pleasant" and "very informative". Had an amazing experience here! The Dr. (Who was a women, forgot her name) was very informative about my eyes and what changes need to take place. I had a contact consultation, which was very useful, especially if you're new to wearing contacts. When I was finished I was handed to Armin, who was very friendly and knowledgable with all the insurance paperwork. He made everything so easy and fun. Payments were hassle free and I left there feeling happy and not ripped off, which most people feel after any doct. Appt! If you're the type, like me, who wants to know the copayment or how much glasses would cost... Call before hand to get an idea. That's what I did so I had a rough estimate of what my payment would be! Ryan helped me over the phone and he was extremely friendly and very patient with the questions I had asked him! Modo is an awesome optometry clinic in addition to optics boutique, located in the Waterside shopping center in MDR. The two sales consultants are extremely personable and go above and beyond to help you out. The optometrists are all very thorough and have excellent availability and schedule flexibility. The selection of glasses, both prescription and sunglass variety, is quite extensive and span the spectrum of price ranges and designers (Rayban to Paul Smith to Oliver Peoples, etc.). Additionally, they take a number of vision insurance plans and will work with you to get you what you need. So glad my wife and I found this place!!! read more

Armin is always courteous, friendly and super helpful. The two optometrists I've seen are also always very nice, informative and patient, especially since they took the time to proactively explain how astigmatism lenses worked. When I had a change of heart in contact lenses during a trip last year, they were quick to update the order with only a charge for the contacts I ended up using. I've been faithfully coming back to these guys for two years and they're a small boutique shop who will get to know you by name. Highly recommended! read more

Armin is always ready to greet you with a smile. I'll usually do a See's candy run, and stopped in after weeks of shopping for a better looking pair of glasses. Since then, my husband found prescription sunglasses, glasses and I found (ok Armin did) the perfect pair of glasses for me. I have nothing but disdain for eye glasses, but seriously, Armin makes this optometry store. As others have said, no hard sell, no selling the most expensive, just great recommendations for the size and shape to fit your face and lifestyle. Modo is an excellent place for getting a thorough eye exam and for fitting lenses and glasses. The doctor (Dr. Mona Lu) is a great professional and very pleasant in person. The administrative staff is courteous and understanding. They were very nice not to hold against me that I missed a Saturday appointment and simply rescheduled it for next Saturday. No long waiting, no overcharge. Their inventory is also very impressive and tasteful. Another benefit: located in a cool neighborhood shopping place, by Ralph's and post office etc., which is great for parking and running errands on the way. I've had two great experiences here - great enough that it is for Modo that I am writing my very first review on Yelp. The first time I came to the store was to get my eyes checked by the doctor for an eye infection. It was an emergency and I didn't have an appointment. I was surprised by how courteously I was greeted and how quickly I was seen by the doctor. The doctor was very meticulous and knowledgeable and I was properly treated for the infection. While at the store, I couldn't help but notice the wide array of glasses and sunglasses that it had. So I decided to come back this week to buy a pair of sunglasses. I was greeted by Armin, who patiently helped me as I tried pair after pair after pair. Never once did I feel pressured into buying - in fact, Armin was very honest about not liking certain frames on my face, and gave me a lot of helpful suggestions to find me the right one. I walked out with a great pair of Chanel aviators, and was VERY happy with both my experience at the store and my glasses! Oh and Armin is super nice - feel free to spark conversations with him about life as he gets your glasses ready (hope he still gives me great prices after I just suggested that to you guys!) I'm so glad to have discovered Modo! I was shopping around for a place that carried Oliver Peoples *AND* took VSP. Not an easy task, it turns out! After calling several stores around town I was happy to find this place in the Marina. Not only was Armin familiar with the model I was looking for, he asked what size I needed and offered to order it (and got it in the next day!). They are are conveniently located, easy to find, and extremely helpful and friendly. Don't be fooled by the minimal storefront; they have a large amount of high-end eyewear in that tiny footprint of a store! (Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, Persol, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Ray Ban). They had such a great selection and variety that hubby was able to find a pair as well. Really great service and selection from this family owned business. read more

I had already received my eye exam elsewhere, but was not happy with their prices on contacts. This place saved me 20 bucks for a 6 month supply. The staff was very professional and even hooked me up with a free pair of contacts to get me by until my order came in (2 day turnaround). I asked how much their eye exam was as I noticed Celia's comment about them being expensive. They advised me it was 150 dollars. That's not so expensive in my eyes as Costco charges 100 bucks and they don't really do a thorough job. I have an astigmatism and once got a prescription from Costco...needless to say I ended up with contacts that made me feel dizzy cause they were too strong and improperly fit. So be careful. Cheaper isn't always better. That being said I was happy with this places contacts prices and will definitely get my next exam here once my current one expires. read more

I made an emergency day-of appointment with Modo and Dr. Choi saw me just a few hours later! That was the first miracle. The second was Dr. Choi, herself. She is such a friendly, knowledgeable and careful optometrist, really one in a million. She showed me the photos and went through the anatomy of my eye so I could understand for myself what the images told her that she took of my eye. She also helped me get fitted for the correct prescription, something I've literally put off for years. She took no chances and did not pressure me to get a full exam but I decided to do it after speaking to her because of how professional and kind she was. I will not put off going to the optometrist's again, now. She and Modo are THE eyewear and care specialists you want to trust with something so important: your sight. They have a wonderful selection of glasses and very charming staff to help you as you make your selection or wait for your exam. I'll stop myself here, but long story short: Bravo, Modo. ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place! As soon as I walked in I was kindly greeted by the man in charge Armin. He helped me look around for a pair of glasses, and patiently waited as I tried on pair after pair after pair. I felt NO pressure for once in my life buying a pair of glasses he was completely honest about the ones he liked and didnt like on me. in the end i found the right frames but he ordered them for me in the color that I wanted. when it got down to the pricing of the lenses I once again felt no pressure as Armin told me I could think about it and come back, although the pricing was better than many other stores I had gone to. so I really RECOMMEND modo optometry!!! read more

Nathan and Armin were extremely helpful and friendly! Their customer service is on point. I was in and out of there in about an hour or less. The exam was great. Totally forgot the optometrists name, (Asian young lady) but she was a delight! Super nice, friendly and professional. I walked in here for an exam. Needed to replace the lenses on my Oliver Peoples. I had no idea they would be able to send them out for me to be replaced. I thought I would have to send them out myself, since I had purchased these at an overpriced Beverly Hills Optometry location 2 years ago, where they conveniently forgot to mention that I had a 2 year warranty on my glasses!!! Nathan made it very easy for me. Broke down the details for my fees, and I walked out of there with a new pair of RayBan sunglasses, which I had no clue were covered through my insurance, my Oliver Peoples glasses sent out for the lenses to be replaced, and a HUGE smile on my face :D I thought only prescription glasses were covered. But what do I know?!?! Anyhow, these guys are awesome. I already recommended a friend to this place. She scheduled an appointment right away. They accepted my insurance, Blue View, and they have a nice selection of High End, and not so high end, sunglasses and seeing glasses. Now, this is Marina Del Rey, so don't come here expecting to find some cheap prescription glasses. Overall, my experience here was amazing. I went here, as it was the closest my insurance listed (VSP insurance.) I came in for a Sunday appointment to get contacts. I hadn't worn contacts in 3 years, and I have a sensitivity to contacts. This Dr. was so good. Normally I can never get a dr. to drop a contact in my eyes... i have to do it myself and it's a grueling process. I find it hard to even get drops in my eyes. However, this Dr. simply dropped the contact in, in a matter of seconds. I had no problem. I told him this was amazing, because normally people just give up on me and let me put them in. He has a lot of skill, and he talked to me about contact options. He suggested a contact lens type that has been perfect for me. The equipment he uses is modern. The office is very clean. The staff is very nice. 5 stars all the way. read more
