Firstly I have to say that I've been to New Orleans before and I expected the food to be the same but I was so disappointed! Starting with my drink I had the chipotle pineapple drink, it was too sweet, and filled with ice!! You only get a few sips and then it's done! They give you a piece of cornbread and cinnamon butter while you wait for your food, that tasted good. The food didn't taste that great I had fried chicken, the outside tasted so good but the inside was super bland and no seasoning at all (nothing creole) about it! I got sweet potatoe fries sprinkled in Cinnamon sugar yuck! The waiter did not care to mention that fact nor does the menu say that the fries are covered in sweet sugar! Overall taste was a 3/10 food too bland and not seasoned enough. Atmosphere 3/10 tables are sticky and wobbly (everyone complained about this) waitress 1/10 She was sipping on a cocktail the entire time she served us! I have been here a couple times the atmosphere is nice and the food is good. However, my first time ordering shots there was a no go. My friends and I were not typsy after any of the shots. So after like 4 tequila shots I was questioning it. They charged us 9$ for a tequila shot and they were all completely watered down. I felt no burn after the shots which is not normal. The young ladies were pleasant, polite, engaged each of us at the table. The main server we had, and I don't remember her name, answered questions and made us all feel like her favorite customers. This is the place to be Tuesdays in Plainfield. Tuesday night comedy is the highlight of my week. Moe Joe's does a great job of running this show in their "speak easy" basement bar, the guy who runs the sound is a very talented and hilarious rapper and the MCs are welcoming to customers and performers alike. There are also $3 craft and Mexican beers on Tuesday, great way to keep the fun rollin' during the show. The food is so delicious that I give in to it about 90% of the time even when I say I'm just drinking. My recommendations are any of the po' boy sandwiches or one of the things from their sides (loaded baked potato, mac and cheese, gumbo, etc.) The sides are usually around 5 bucks. The fact that it is in downtown plainfield sets it apart from the other bars in town that are in strip malls at far removed locations. Best bar in Plainfield, I'd venture to say! read more

Id love to give details on the food but we never made it that far. Went in on a Saturday afternoon we were immediately seated and then they took 30 minutes for someone to bring our drinks. The waitress had no idea what was on their drink menu she went to find out and never came back. We were ready to order our food but glad we didnt since we ended up leaving. Our server would look right at us as she walked past time and time again, then 4 servers took turns cleaning one item at a time from a table right next to us all while we sat there waiting to place our order. The food is probably really good the menu warns of the longer wait times for food, however when the wait is already 30 minutes to even get a drink its not worth it! read more

Our fave "go to" restaurant in Plainfield! The food is great! Everything I've had has been spicy and delicious, we especially love the alligator bites (my kids do, I should say), the jambalaya, red beans and rice, and the steaks. Oh and the remoulade sauce is awesome - I put it on everything! I asked my 10 year old son what he wanted to do for his birthday this year (ie.. bowling, laser tag, ect) and he said all he wants is to go to Moe Joe's!!! I went there with my wife for our anniversary. We both ordered steaks and a potatoe for dinner. They come tell us they dropped one of the steaks they can bring us one and both potatoes and re fire the steak they dropped. We tell them we want to eat together so I guess just take the other steak off our bill. They do but they could have offered to re fire everything or offered something off our bill. But now we're at a fast food restaurant because neither of us had enough to eat. Never going there again. read more

I've been a handful of times. I always get the chicken fricassee and it's always good. Large portions so I always end up taking more than half of it home and picking at it for a few days after. This is the first place I ever had gator and loved it. I recommend corn crusted alligator tail app. It's like little gator nuggets. Various people I've been with at the restaurant have always liked their meals. Recently came here and ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes for an app but the Southern Fried green pepper rings came to the table. Not sure how that happened but it was a happy accident. Just a heads up- very strong flavor of black pepper on the rings but it wasn't bad but I could see it being a lot for sensitive folks. My son had the chicken tenders off the kids' menu; large cuts of chicken, great breading. Their kids' menu is actually pretty comprehensive and reflective of their overall menu. I was impressed it went beyond the regular kids' stuff- catfish, gator, and frog legs to name a few. So if your little is adventurous (or blissfully unaware) this is a good menu for them to try different things. So why 4 stars? While the food is consistently amazing the service is consistently.... bare. For lack of a better word. But it's not BAD. They're doing the bare minimum. Ask about a menu item- little to no opinion or enthusiasm about any of it. Even if you ask what they like. I don't expect cartwheels and fan fair but it's odd. It's like they're muted or dull. I wish I could put a better finger on it. I'm fairly certain the menu/food is what keeps people coming back. The parking situation in downtown Plainfield is questionable. If it was better I'd venture down Main St more often in general seeing as I'm in the area once a week for Peter Rubi. read more

I was so disappointed last week. I have always had good food here in the past but my last visit was terrible. First I spent $8 on a cup of lobster bisque that did not have one speck of lobster in it (a bowl was $17). I asked the waitress and she said that it isn't supposed to have lobster in it....okay. I had to write regarding my unfortunate experience. My wife and I were seated outside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, drinking a from a great selection of beers. The hostess approached and we were told we needed to move inside, as they needed our table for dinner guests. Had been out there for 45 min. Actually wrote letter to restaurant to complain of them, seemingly, prioritizing customers that had yet to arrive above those already soliciting their establishment. Owner actually contacted me with what seemed like a very sincere apology for our experience. He offered to compensate me for our unfortunate mistreatment by sending us a coupon for a future visit, which I thought was a very stand-up offer. I am still waiting, a month later, for the certificate to arrive, but they, apparently, had a change of heart. Two dissapointments over one visit make a very unappetizing experience! read more

The family and I stopped into MoeJoe's on a whim, because we were exploring downtown Plainfield, which I'm absolutely in love with. MJ has a great menu, mixed with Cajun/Creole and Carribean inspired dishes and drinks. Immediately upon entering and seeing the cheesy Mardi Gras theme, I thought to myself "SCORE". I love cheesiness. Took one look at the menu and saw that they had a Muffeletta and didn't really look at anything else. The husband had Swordfish, and my son had Alligator, which he loves, so he was beyond excited to see it on the Menu. SideNote: My son always complains about the kids menu's everywhere we go because he said they are always dumbed down, but MJ you made a fan of him. Alligator and Frog Legs for the under 12 group and you have a loyal follower in my son. We also had the calamari and crawfish for appetizers. The Calamari was seasoned perfectly but it was a bit overcooked and the crawfish wasn't seasoned well, but it was cooked right. I would love to give MJ 4 stars, but there were a few mistakes with the food, however, it was good enough to definitely go back. Not to mention they made my son happy. MoeJoe's has some really great tasting New Orleans foods. The blackened catfish is one of my favorites. The only detractor is the service time. The staff is helpful, but has to be asked. I don't deduct for this as the food is 'tasteriffic'. The new main drag in Plainfield provides a quaint downtown atmosphere for those evening get togethers. MoeJoes has a well stocked bar for those hot summer nights as well. (and for those cold winter nights, because, let's face it - we don't stop drinking during the winter). read more

I would love to give a review of my time at Moe Joes. Sadly, their service was non existent. We arrived at were seater at 5:30 on 7/14. By 5:40 we had no server come by, so we asked if we had one and were told yes. We waited another 10 minutes, realized despite having plenty of servers standing around, none of them wanted anything to do with us. So we left. Who knows, maybe the have good food. I don't go to Plainfield very often, but my wife and I were very interested in Moe Joes after seeing them on Chicago's Best. We love cajun, and usually make it to New Orleans every couple of years. Started off very well. The hostess was nice, the girls are very cute. Great ambiance and music. But none of that matters if the food is lousy. Started off with an Abita Turbodog. We ordered for appetizers, souther fried pepper rings and Jamaican jerk wings. The breading used on the pepper rings are phenomenal. Flaky texture, good kick, but not too much. The sauce that they use on the jerk wings? Oh my, heavenly. I had the waitress bring me out a small cup of it for my dinner sides. You can honestly use it for anything. For dinner, I couldnt decide between jambalaya and gumbo. So I got small cups of both, along with their house chips. The jambalaya was great. I don't want to undersell it, but the gumbo was, quite possibly, the best gumbo I've ever had in my entire life. Not even exxagerating. Spicy, thick, loaded with good veggies. (love the okra!) My wife ordered an alligator poorboy, with spicy remulouade and creole mustard sauces both on the sandwich, withg a loaded baked potato. I'm kind of iffy on alligator. It's honestly so easy to mess up cooking, and quite often finding quality gator (not insanely rubbery) can be a hassle. The alligator was SO, SO, SO good. Defintely getting that next time. For dessert, we saved our cornbread, ate that with their cinnamon butter, (yes. cinnamon butter. its even better than it sounds.) and split an order of beignets. The cornbread was good. Not dry, kind of sweet. It was pretty good, but I honestly didn't have that much, because my stomach was so full. Beignets are a perfect dessert if you're having heavier foods. (like gumbo) Fluffy, it maintained it's composure, (Beignets can quite often "deflate", for a variety of reasons) and loads of powdered sugar. I asked the waitress if we could get a small cup of cinnamon to add to the beignets. They were phenomenal. If anybody orders beignets, I suggest asking for a sprinkling of cinnamon, as well. Overall, the gumbo, wings, and beignets were the favorite things I had there. We definitely plan on returning. Great job! read more

This used to be our favorite restaurant in downtown Plainfield. We brought all of our out of town family to Moe Joe's and they all loved it. However when we went there yesterday with my parents, it was a horrible experience. The wait staff was slow despite only a couple of tables being occupied in the restaurant. The food was subpar from what we had in the past. To add insult to injury, all of the prices were raised to astronomic levels. I doubt we will ever be back. read more

This is a review for the restaurant side of MoJoes. The ambiance is New Orleans without being too contrived. Hostess/waitress (perhaps owners wife) very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I had the red beans and rice with shrimp. Lots of sausage, the shrimp were decently sized, and spiced right. Great place to dine with kids/a group/casual dining. One of the best dining options in the area. And definitely the best beer list you will find in Will County (Abita, Lagunitas, Delrium Tremens, many others)! read more

This place is AWESOME!!!! There are several reviews on here saying the service was slow and the food is expensive. My guess is that no one looks at where they are going to eat anymore before they eat there. If Get in get out quick is your mentality and what you base how good a place is on, well then this place is not for you. Everything is cooked fresh and from scratch when you order it hence how long it takes to get food, prices are higher because you are paying for quality meat and ingredients and they aren't that high. You can taste the difference in the food, we do not eat out very often so we are very picky about where we go. After several disappointing trips to restaurants I heard about the Wild Boar Burger wining best burger and had to give them a shot. They won for a reason. Best burger I have ever had the old ball and chain ordered the Fried Green Tomato Po Boy and we split Fried Pickles. She loved her food as well. It took maybe about 35 minutes to get all of our food and it was worth it. Service, service was awesome had a younger girl in the bar area. Extremely polite, attentive, and informative. I asked her why the bad reviews about how long the food takes she explained how they do things and it made since to me. Anyone who does not understand this either did not do their research or did not ask either way your own fault. Ive eaten here 7 times now. I think people on Yelp don't get out much----and are really quick to pull out the word AMAZING. Its not Amazing. Its pretty darn good and sticks to your ribs, though!!! The food is authentic in its flavors. Its not over the top WOW,--- but the cooking styles are very home-cooked in their essence. Like a good file gumbo. Iive eaten at a few places down in NOLA and also the other cajun places around here like Heaven on 7, pappadeaux, etc. So I think I have the cajun style and flavors kind of figured out. However, "good food" doesn't automatically mean "good restaraunt" The prices are a little high for what you're getting. 21 bucks for a plate of jambalaya is a little steep considering its mostly a rice dish with slices of sausage. The service is consistently ssssllllllloooooowwwww. Every time. Whether or not the place is busy. I've been one of 5 people in the place during lunchtime and still wind up taking almost an hour. If you're in a rush to eat call ahead and get it as a carry out item. the cocktails are packed to the brim with ice and I felt like mine was gone in a few slurps. It can be a fun place at night with a group, since the bar is kinda lively and they have live bands playing next door sometimes. read more

Food is great, can't complain there. Service is questionable at best. Our 5 year old had an accident and spilled her milk all over. It was a mess and made a big puddle on the table and floor. We were certainly willing to clean up our mess but got zero help from the staff. They threw some paper napkins at us and left us to clean up. I was wiping up their dirty floor by hand waiting for dinner. We did as best as we could with the brown paper napkins and were left to have dinner in a sticky disgusting mess. Thanks MoeJoes. How about moving us to another open table, there were plenty. With the prices they charge, they should think about the service. After this experience I don't know that I'd go back. This is the first place we ate out at when we moved to the area. The food is great and the waitresses were nice. Our kid loved the Alligator bites and wearing the beads that were hanging on the chairs. We always end up with more food we can eat, which tastes great the next day.
