My boyfriend and I had spent a long day fishing on the Poudre and completely forgot about that whole eating food thing until we pulled back into town. We needed food and we needed a lot of it, so we headed to our favorite barbecue joint in town. Everyone at the counter was masked and gloved up, which is always a good start! I ordered the three meat platter with smoked chicken wings, brisket and pulled pork, selecting potato salad and baked beans as the sides. After a short wait, the huge tray was set down in front of us and we dug in. The smoked wings are some of the best wings I've had in Fort Collins! Tender, crispy and piping hot! The brisket was a little tougher than I had hoped, but still full of flavor. The pulled pork stole the show, however - juicy and falling apart on the plate with just the right amount of sizzling fat, drizzled with a sweet and slightly tangy barbecue sauce. Originally we had thought that we'd have leftovers to reheat at home but, as you can see, that didn't happen. We demolished the plates and ripped through the perfectly prepared potato salad and maple-sweet baked beans, then debated getting dessert. The debate was short and we rounded out the meal with a container of banana pudding that had notes of cinnamon and vanilla, topped traditionally with a Nilla wafer. Once the meat sweats stop (SO. After a day of rafting we decided to come here for a bite to eat. The menu was displayed largely on the wall right when you walk in (left side). Unfortunately, they seemed to be out of all my first and second options (it was later in the day on a Sunday). I also feel like it's fair to say that most places are minimizing portions due to everyone slowing getting back to "normal". Staff was nice and the outside patio was very inviting (spacious - social distance friendly). As for the food, it was a bit too breaded for me (also, could maybe need a little bit more seasoning). After a week of hiking I'm always down for some great barbecue and Fort Collins offers several places to have barbecue but I came here with my partner who has lived here for over five years and said that this place is by far the best spot to have barbecue. I've never tried this place despite living here for years. I got the pork belly sandwich, baked beans, and pickled egg. Their white bbq sauce is pretty damn good! The pork belly sandwich itself was really good but the only thing was that the pork belly was kind of burnt on one side so it was too hard to chew at one point. The baked beans had a familiar flavor to it, I couldn't pin it, but it was good too and so was the pickled egg. This place is worth trying if you havent already. read more

What a cool little BBQ joint in the heart of old town Ft. Collins. Parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time of the day, but just to the West is a great parking structure with the first hour free. I usually frequent this joint on Wing Wednesday, because wings are only .55 cents each. SCORE! Today I went with 14 wings and a side of their special smoked chicken salad. The wings are always delicious and well seasoned and come naked or with no sauce. These wings are smoked and then flash fried to a delicious perfection! On the side is a white ranch/bbq sauce you could say, plus on the tables is a more traditional bbq sauce. I will always mix half and half between the two sauces. Had the large rib platter, slaw and chips - meaty ribs with just the right smoke and tug, marinated slaw all excellent! Party had 3 meat platter of sausage, pulled pork, brisket, mac 'n cheese and beans. Gave me a taster, all excellent! As for the sauce, very good and flavorful and with good Q didn't need much simply enhanced it. Just a comment; prefer unsweetened tea and it wasn't offered. Great hostess, nice place. I went here because I was craving some authentic barbecue. The inside looks like a bbq joint should: brick wall interior. They play catchy music to get you in the mood. There sweet tea tastes as if they put lots of effort into it and made sure it tastes just like sweet tea should. When I got my meal, I ate the ribs first. The sauce was so good: savory with a little bit of spice. The next thing I decided to try was the potato salad. I love how they left the skin in the salad. It tasted like a potato salad should: homemade! Next was the banana pudding. When I got it, I was expecting the Jello brand, but was surprised to see how real it looked. Given the reviews I expected better but it could have been weird timing at this college central location. I got the ribs, with a side of Mac and cheese and collard greens with a banana pudding late on a very snowy night. We ate in and the service was friendly. My ribs came out frigid in spots. I hate that, I know that bbq has to be prepared in advance but is it too much to ask to heat it up all the way so you don't feel like you mowing down on a rib half warm half freezing. It's a bit of a pet peeve I'll admit as I've experienced that more often than not at bbq joints in Colorado. The collard greens where literally drowning in vinegar what should have been a few teaspoon turned into a cup. It was inedible. The Mac and cheese was decent and pudding rich and great texture, more of a vanilla taste than banana in the batch. It would be nice if they severed the corn bread warm and with butter. read more

This before at BBQ places and I live that it encourages me to order something different than I normally would. I had a pound of the smoked wings and a hot links sandwich. I've never been more pleased with my food. The wings were flavorful, crispy on the outside while still juicy in the middle. Absolutely perfect. Then there was the hot links sandwich. This was killer. The hot links wet spicy but not overpowering, the coleslaw was tangy and creamy and the sauce was perfectly sweet with a good amount of vinegar. Tried Moe's today for the first time and it was delicious! We shared the fried catfish with collared greens, black eyed peas and corn bread and the pork nachos. Everything was so good, the nachos were the surprise delight. The chips are fresh fried flour tortillas and they are so light and fluffy, they're topped with a housemade queso that's to die for along with the pork and tomatoes etc. There's a huge back patio with shaded picnic tables. Certainly the best option for Bar B Que on the north side of Fort Collins. The smoker is almost always running, a good sign indicating small batches to keep the meats fresh. The meats are served with just a little sauce on top for garnish. Not enough to penalize them for hiding the meat behind the sauce. The meats here can and do stand on their own. The sauce is true to the company's Alabama roots. Lots of vinegar, not too sweet, and a little bit of heat from pepper and chili. I would describe the sauce as showing the regional transition from your tomato based Kansas region to the mustard/ vinegar Carolina styles. Alabama is pretty much in between. After the last two visits, I have tried the brisket, turkey, chicken, and pulled pork. As expected, the meats that are "less healthy" tasted the best. The Brisket: Nice smoke ring with a good outer char/ crust that is just enough texture and flavor without coming across as grit. Good lean cuts of meat too. Moe's cooks the brisket and pork correctly for long periods of time so the fat actually cooks down and moistens the meat. You will not have to deal with rubbery blobs attached to your protein here! The meat is also cooked to the correct tenderness. The brisket passed the test: sits limp over the knife without breaking, but yet pulls apart without having to saw it. The Pork: Very tasty and not over seasoned. No gristley bits. The birds: I recommend the smoked turkey. The wood Moe's uses pairs well with the turkey which is served in nice thick slabs. The chicken (in the platter form) is served as half a bird, so you have to pick around the bones and deal with dark meat. The sides: All the sides are pretty good. Baked beans have a hint of chili in them for a nice undertone of heat. The slaw is prepared deep south style with apple cider vinegar instead of mayonnaise, so overall a healthy version. If you like chili, try the Pork Green Chili. Nice and thick and very meaty. A little too much smoke for my taste that seemed to undercut the woody roast flavor I wanted to get from the Green Chilies. Cornbread is seasoned with jalepenos and grilled before serving. The grilling gives it a nice crust on one side and helps highlight the sweetness/ spice paring in the recipe. The place is ran by pretty much the same staff every shift. Friendly, hard working and always interested in your satisfaction. read more

I've spent a lot of time in Texas and know good bbq. We tried Moe's take out...the pulled pork and smoked turkey were actually pretty good. We got mac and cheese,, beans and potato salad as sides. The sides also tasted pretty good. The sandwiches and sides portions are so hideously small that had to stop for burgers after.. It's comical. Alabama style bbq? I've seen people from Alabama...and they would not even be able to taste portions this small. read more

Once our go-to BBQ place in Fort Collins, Moe's has tumbled far downhill since the onset of Covid. When the pandemic started, their regular operations were altered to not having fountain drinks and limited capacity. As it progressed they had trouble calculating how much food to prepare each day. More than a year later, and with government edicts lifted, they still struggle with the basics they once had down pat. These days they run out of meat by 5:30 - 6:00pm. After several attempts to get there by 5:30 and have pulled pork or brisket remaining, we finally lucked out. Unfortunately, Covid either forced a change in their butcher or in the quality they strive for. An order of brisket and pulled pork resulted in some garbage meat resembling neither. The "brisket" was more fat than meat. The "pulled pork" was a mix of whatever meat they had left over. What they served was such garbage it didn't even meet criteria to be served in a hog's trough. In all, a $15 plate ended with just the side dishes eaten. Moe's has become a real disappointment. I now drive to Longmont or Firestone when I'm craving good pork. read more

Headed to Ft Collins to pickup some stuff I won on Auction. The GF doesn't like BBQ and since she wasn't with me, decided to stop by. When it comes to Bar B Que; I am biased. I grew up in North Carolina; so if it ain't pig, it's not BBQ. If it is Pig, you better smoke it; or it's not BBQ. If you smoke it, you better have vinegar, or it's not BBQ. Please keep in mind, that I have a very specific definition of BBQ. I walked in, checked the menu, Pulled Pork. Check. Ordered: Smoked Wings App, 2 Meat Combo with Pulled Pork and Sausage. Fried Mac and Cheese, and Sweet Potato Casserole. Jalapeno Vinegar on the bar top. Check. When I received my 2 meat plate; I was a bit sad; I didn't think it had enough food on it. I was wrong. I barely finished my food. The pulled pork was smoked well. I could taste the flavor of the wood. I would have preferred more bark, but I didn't ask for it. The bbq sauce is tomato based, but very good flavor; and when I added the vinegar, the vinegar wasn't over powered by the house sauce. Cornbread comes in this huge piece that's been toasted on one side. It's a sweet corn bread, which I like both styles. It was very very very delicious. Sausage was spicey, had good snap on the casing. Nothing mind blowing, par for the course. Fried Mac and Cheese. It's homemade and you can tell. It's a typical flour, egg, panko. It was very good. Not too greasy, and like I said you can taste the homemade in the mac n cheese. Smoked Wings: They were a bit dry, which would be the case when they are slow smoked. Chicken is hard to keep moist in those conditions. The flavor was undeniably wonderful. I only wish I could have eaten more of them. Sweet Potato Casserole: Delicious. Sweet; Cinnamon; Soft; Crunchy; Pecans. Just wonderful. I could eat a gallon of it, if they would let me.
