I've been to St. Augustine twice since I moved to Jacksonville last year. Each time, I've had lunch at Mojo Old City BBQ. There's a solid chance that I'll have lunch here the third time, fourth time, and I think you get it from there- whenever I return. For my latest trip, we walked right in and were seated about noon on a Saturday. I'm kind of stunned that it isn't busier at that time, because the food is spectacular and the service is superb. Mojo Old City BBQ has ample outdoor and indoor seating. I've sat on the patio during both visits, which is across the street from a historical cemetery. As my family isn't known for ravenous appetites, we split the Whole Hawg, which includes pulled pork, brisket, turkey, chicken, ribs, a piece of sausage, four sides, and four slices of toast, all for $42. This is a lot of food and the perfect way to sample Mojo's BBQ. Every meat was smoked to perfection and was juicy and full of flavor. The sausage and brisket were the standouts to me, but it's all good. Don't sleep on the sides, either. The pit beans were smoky, sweet, with bits of pork, just amazing. The mashed potatoes are delicious, and the mac and cheese is among the better I've had at a BBQ restaurant. Mojo has an array of their own sauces, too. The Mojo and Chipotle sauces have a nice kick to them, in particular. My family was barely able to finish the food since we had a late breakfast, but any way you shake it, the Whole Hawg is a lot of food and will fill up 3 or 4 people. Also, who wants to be stuffed if you're visiting St. Augustine and will be checking out the sites all day? There's certainly no shortage of other places to stop for food. Hands down my favorite place when I come visit St. Augustine. Whenever we come to town, this is the first place we stop for dinner and the last place we stop before we head out. Desperate for finding a lunch spot that didn't have a 40-minute wait, my wife suggested Mojo Old City. The suggestion didn't disappoint as the restaurant offers great cocktails and delicious food. The cocktails were great with my wife enjoying a Kentucky Mule and I loved the Flying Peach. The latter had a lovely sweetness with a sour citrusy tang on the back end. The Odd Couple was also very good, like a cherry popsicle that melted in a good way. All three were bourbon-based cocktails that brought me a sense of spiritual purity and strength; strength and spiritual purity. I thought I would miss out on the Kansas City Burnt Ends but they literally became available after we ordered according to my server. So naturally, I ordered some and was so glad that I did. They were juicy, savory, and seasoned to perfection. They were a flavor bomb that lasted in your mouth for hours if you didn't order anything else. The bbq sauces are very good. The sweet is precisely that while the mojo has a nice savory mouthfeel. The chipotle definitely brought some smokiness and spice. For the main course was the southern fried chicken with white gravy and sides of Mac n cheese and bbq pit beans. The meal certainly satisfied my appetite as the chicken breast was delicious while the Mac n cheese was creamy and delectable. I inhaled the latter with incredible delight. The beans were delicious as well, made with bacon grease, brown sugar, and love. Overall, this was a joyous meal that brought me a lot of... wait for it... joy. Decided to have dinner here before our Ghost Tour. It was an excellent decision. Located directly across from the Tolomato graveyard with a beautiful patio! The servers were very kind and the service was quick. The vegetable plate comes with four and for $3.00 more there are premium items. Everything is delicious but the Mac and cheese is the clear star. First visit to Mojo's and it was superb. Make sure you ask to have Dave as your server. He offers a great experience. We ate on the outside patio on a gorgeous day. But the star is the food. There were 4 of us but 3 had the same sandwich, so there were fewer pictures. Our relatives from North Carolina thought this was one of the best brisket sandwiches they had ever eaten. The onion rings were exceptional. As good as they may look in the picture, they tasted even better. I had the salad with burnt ends. There was a lot of meat. I got 2 meals from it. We were a little surprised that the quality would be so high in such a tourist area. We will be singing their praises going forward and look forward to returning soon to have Dave serve us. All I can say is that I don't know how people can say this place is good. First I would say the service is a 10. The look and feel is great but the food is like a 2. The brisket was dry and tough. The ribs had no real flavor. The chicken was not that good either. The Mac&cheese was the best thing I had. The stew would be good but I've had better at other bbq spots. I'm a BBQ lover and this place was just not it. Maybe it was the cooks in the back that day but I did not like anything really. We were going to go to Harry's but the line was so long we decided to head back to this place as we caught the scent of it walking by and it smelled so good. So glad we did come back. We sat outside and it was great. Right across from a gated cemetery and we watched the ghost hunters come and go taking pictures. We started with the Kansas City Burnt Ends and OMG they were fantastic. They give you several different types of bbq sauce to try and our favorite was the Chipotle. Wow! We were staying here for the weekend and one of the locals recommended Mojo's. I asked if they had the vinegar base BBQ and she did they did! We came to Mono Old City for a casual dinner during a bachelorette weekend. The hosts stand seemed really unprepared for how empty the place was but the server was really nice and on top of things and the food was heavy but tasty. Got there and hosts let us know that it would only be a few minutes but don't ask for our name. 10 minutes go by and a family around the size as our party, that had been waiting for a while at the bar, comes back to the stand to ask how much longer, as they weren't give a timeframe either. Another 10 minutes go by and we're sat first, even after we mention the family was here before us. The food was tasty but very rich. I was hoping the acidity of the slaw on the BBQ Ruben would help but it was just lettuce with some dressing on it, though the onion rings were really tasty. Overall the food was fine but wouldn't recommend based on the service of the hosts. Our group had a great experience here! We tried their spare ribs and brisket with an assortment of sides. I usually don't expect Mac and cheese at bbq places to be good but it was really good. It was saucy and well flavored! Their other sides like the cole slaw was good too! The ribs were tender but charred nicely and the brisket was soft and delicious as well. The three meats and side for $21 is a good variety and the server was nice and split the plate for two people knowing my friends were sharing. The Brunswick stew was a wonderful surprise to have on a menu as it is harder and harder to find these days. It was very good. Not as good as my great aunt's but it hit the spot. $2 up charge to make it a side with my sandwich. The mojo sandwich was massive. 2 people could really spilt it. It seemed like 2 cups of shredded protein on a bun. The bun was toasted with butter and garlic powder which always makes me happy. It was perfectly sauced and didn't need anything extra. The burnt ends were to die for. I would get them next time as an entree and just order an extra side. They were rubbed with such a great spice combo that sauce was no needed to enjoy them. Sometimes burnt ends are more burn and little meat -not here. My hubby got the Smitty and enjoyed it greatly. The view from outside was great because of the people watching and the beautiful view of the trees and cemetery. Service was excellent! Inside the place was packed clearly not adhering to 50% capacity. Parking will be very hard to have within a block of here. Their lot is very small. We're local and have ate here several times, always good service and good food. However, we hadn't been here for about a year. Came in 2 days ago and it was like someone flipped the switch. Server was TERRIBLE!! Right from the drink order where 1 of the drinks was supposed to be no ice, when we brought it to her attention, instead of simply apologizing and correcting it, she didn't say a thing, made a nasty face and abruptly grabbed the drink and walked away. Based on other reviews and rating in the 4's I am not sure if the restaurtant was having a bad night or people have a low standard of BBQ Food. We ordered shrimp from app menu, which was very good,, but a small portion for the price. We then ordered two sides and two meats. Sweet Potatoe Mash was very very sweet - almost too sweet. Mac and Chees did not have much flavor. Now onto the meats - the smoked chicken really did not have much of a taste and the brisket was thick and not tender at all. I found this BBQ joint on Yelp before our trip to St Augustine. The dinner menu drew me in and the prospect of tasty drinks from the bar sold me. It was busy as to be expected during any Night of Lights evening. There were open seats at the bar so we grabbed a couple of drinks and waited there for a table. We opted for first available (inside vs outside) seating. We got a table on the outside patio. A treat for sure. There were heaters to keep us comfortable. My second drink was the Low country sangria ordered at our table with dinner. A smooth drink and it paired well with the dinner. Food: We started with an appetizer and ordered the Pit-smoked chicken wings. They were so tasty! Well seasoned, lightly crispy outside and juicy meat inside. So I'm slightly torn writing this review because I think my opinion of the restaurant is slightly skewed because of an awkward experience we had here... I came here with my bachelorette party for dinner and then funnily enough we actually returned later as it was a spot on our ghost tour. They accommodated our large group for dinner and the food was fantastic! The BBQ quesadilla is absolutely to die for, and everyone else loved their dinners as well. They offer a lot of great bbq sauce options for the table. When we returned later in the evening the bartenders were great and got us drinks pretty quickly. The bar is nice and huge! Now our little hiccup was with our server at the end of our meal... he brought out the check and asked if we were celebrating anything. We said, yes, a bachelorette. He said oh nice! Would you guys want some shots to go around? We said oh sure that's so nice! He then returned to our table with the shots and a bill for the shots for $84... which in utter confusion we paid. It just shocked us all completely because he obviously presented them as on-the-house shots. Because of this I would like to have given 2 or 3 stars... but I won't because the server seemed to be new and young and I can't imagine that this kind of thing happens that often here.
