This place has the most outrageously priced drinks ever!!! It was like $20 per drink, ridiculous for a Tuesday night in the boonies. The dj was really awesome, but there were a couple of ginormous douchebags who kept whistling into the crowd. It was an ear-piercing screech that made me want to rip my face off. The bouncer was completely worthless and didn't do anything about it after I told him. I mean really? A guy is so obnoxious that he's making people want to LEAVE and you do nothing? EW. Wow. This place was terrible on so many levels. First, we were sent to the club by the owner of a high-end restaurant we were at and told to ask for "Bernard" who would hook us up ... When we got there, we were told we could not get in unless we spent $5,000 on a table - what a hook up ... One of the guys we were with worked out some deal and we did get in with a table (for a lot of $). Except that after delivering one bottle of Kettle One, the waitresses were nowhere to be found. We had to ask for more bottle service no less than five times and still only got another two bottles (which was insane given we were spending A LOT of money just to be at that table ... sober). The music was terrible, the dancing girls were super cheesy, the rest of the crowd was lame and to top it all off, the manager was mega rude. One of our group lost her phone and when she was trying to ask one of the bouncers about it, the manager decided he didn't like her language and told the bouncer to literally pick her up and forcibly carry her out of the club ... so unbelievable given how much money we were spending. Coming from a guy that's partied primarily in Los Angeles & Las Vegas and understands the difficulty in getting into clubs, I had to say..... all the ladies def need to meet the promoters of this club. They are super friendly and the bouncers were hella cool. Just let me in right away. I had to give this 5 stars cuz the promoters are not messing around... I just told them I was on so and so list... and the bouncers were like... go right in... no need for admission or waiting in line :) This club was primarily indoors cuz it was raining outside but it was a nice club! Mokai is one of those places that focuses on setting a standard by raising the bar very high - Yeap, for many it's discouraging but also they want to keep the club with high standards - Many other clubs just want to make a profit, so they let in anyone and everyone, and seriously if you want to have a good time and you don't want to be worried about getting into a fight with some dude who is angry because he doesn't belong there. So maybe I just picked a really bad night to try and come here, but this place was dead...and I mean really dead, I was with 10 people and when we entered around 3am we more than doubled the number of people in this place. That said, I think this lounge could be really cool, music was good and the inside was setup really well. It looked cool and was sectioned off in parts as well which makes it so there are no main walkways which people trampling over you. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We wanted to enjoy Mokai despite hearing about apparent thefts at the lounge. The music was fine. Unfortunately, Mokai lived up to its reputation, as my friend's wallet was stolen. The manager didn't seem to care enough, which was a shame because we weren't being careless with our belongings. A simple turn of your head, and you are apparently giving thieves the green light. Not to mention the fraudulent charges that occurred outside of the club so soon after my friend's wallet was seized. A group of 7 girls got in with the help of our "night life ambassador". He kept up his end of the deal, we got in without having to pay or wait in line, which is an added bonus. However, thanks to these reviews, we were quite aware of the fact that it was only 11pm and things don't start to pop off until 12. Upon entry, we all got a free glass of champagne and the music was bumpin. I'm a fan of hip hop, so if you are too, this is the place to go on a Thursday night. Just as things were about to get played out, our nightlife ambassador said he got a table, escorted us over and poured us drinks all night. The decor was really interesting - there was some kind of sex theme going on, ropes hanging half way down from the ceiling and large cage, which i'm assuming a dancer does her thing in later on in the night. Mokai lounge is your typical Miami hot spot. It's a place where people go to dress up and be seen. I tend to go on Wednesday nights with a group of my friends and always have a good time. This is isn't a place to go to if you are looking for a place to sit down and have a good conversation over drinks with some friends. However if you're ready to dance and like a variety of music then Wednesday nights at Mokai is perfect. They play a nice mix of hip hop and house music, but if you don't know someone at the door it may be difficult to get in. We are lucky to have friends that are always there so getting in isn't a problem, but if it were I'd probably pass on going. read more

This may be the worst club I've ever been too. Everywhere we looked said open at 11 and free to get in before 12. When we got there it didn't open until well after 12 and the bouncers kept everyone on the sidewalk (even though maybe 20 people were outside). We got in eventually for a $20 cover. Only to find out drinks were extremely expensive (and I'm from New York so that's saying something) there was no dance floor. And a lot of the staff and others inside we're incredible rude. We asked the concierge at our hotel where we should go on our last night in SoBe. He suggested Mokai for Tuesdays so we made the death march from our hotel there. When we finally arrived at the velvet ropes we got there just in time to watch a group be turned away so I was pretty certain we would not be getting in. But all I had to do was ask and they opened up the gates with NO COVER. The decor inside was nice, but nothing special. Lots of cushy sofas. It was also practically empty (so I was confused by them turning people away). The bartenders were nice and hott but somehow managed to make terrible vodka sodas (I really think they gave me vodka gingers...ew). They had a $40 min for credit cards, so be prepared to spend and don't forget to notice the hefty gratuity included. The music was ok, very lounge-y at first and I was hoping for more of a dance club. There wasn't even really much of a dance floor, just a little space where people crowded in front of the pretentious DJ. Not many people were dancing, except for me and my unhappy boyfriend. The music def turned more pop-y as the night wore on and the club began to fill up with scantily-clad ladies. We didn't stay late since it was getting past our bedtime. So, maybe this place really only deserves 2.5 stars but they get the extra .5 because right as I was leaving they FINALLY played "Circus" (yes, I am a Brit fan, she is my guilty pleasure) and I got to dance to it with the boyf :). read more

Mokai (there's an umlaut on the i, but Yelp doesn't like foreign languages) is supposedly the hot new club in South Beach, and all the in-the-know locals we spoke with recommended it. But I was underwhelmed. On a Friday night the crowd was much less attractive (and somewhat older) than at Mynt or Mansion, and the DJing was indifferent. The line out front was surprisingly short, compared to a big club like Mansion or SET, but perhaps because Mokai is so small the wait would be the same (I don't know; our host was connected so we walked right in). There's no dance floor, which I like, but the space around the couches is narrow enough to encourage traffic jams. In the event, we stayed for less than an hour and then retired to Mynt, where we stayed until dawn. read more

The only downfall is that this place is notorious for 14 yr old girls with fake foreign IDs puking in the bathrooms & knocking into everything/body. I went to Mokai Lounge on my recent trip to Miami Beach. The line started to get long around midnight. I got on the guest list, which made getting into Mokai Lounge fast. I was in the VIP area with friends. Bottle service was attentive. Mokai played a mixture of music throughout the night. I like Mokai ambience. The guest list is the best way to go (IMO). I was super surprised to see this lounge only had 2 stars but I see most of the people didn't get in. I will say though that once we got there there were two groups of people and they were being told they there was no room and they needed to pay $500 for 1 bottle or they couldn't get in. Me and my two girl friends didn't think we would get in because they were getting flat out rejected but the bouncer just told us to wait and brought us right in. I felt bad but it is what it is. Inside: beautiful. I was more impressed by the decor here than at LIV (which we went to the night before and left early). First things first, they choose who they want to let in. I saw a girl get denied for wearing sandals, followed by a group of pretty girl wearing sandals and being let in. Glad I wore heels. My girlfriends and I were "recruited" from another club to go to this one, and while we were wary at first, it ended up being a really good decision. We had a blast at Mokai. We were able to sit in the VIP section with bottle service, so fortunately we were not super crowded like the rest of the club. The waiters were very attentive with our drinks, and the music was fantastic. Great music to dance to. When we first got there, there was some sort of bathing suit fashion show, and they had a guy playing awesome violin (maybe fiddle?). Gave the club a cool ambiance. I had to dock a star for two things: 1) I guess they allow smoking in the club, because I saw several people lighting up. Not the best thing to breathe in smoke and have your hair smell like it the day after. 2) The waitresses (well, at least one of them) were straight up RUDE. Incredibly rude. We only had male waiters at our table, but there was a waitress in the restroom, who cut the line and then yelled at all of the girls in the bathroom (she definitely didn't use the term "girls" or "ladies" when yelling - I'll let you guess the word she used when addressing us) that they needed to share stalls. There were large signs on the stalls saying "One person at a time in each stall." So did homegirl want us to ignore the signs of her workplace? I thought the fact that she was so crude to customers was a very bad sign. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Mokai (save for the very unprofessional girl in the restroom). It is unfortunate how many bad reviews this place get it really does not deserve them! Every time I go there I have a blast. You have to go on Mondays, and yes you may have to deal with waiting in line, especially if you are a guy. This is Miami! Even pretty girls have to wait once in a while! Fridays have been especially good lately its a mix of hip hop and house but mostly hip hop. The crowd is good, one of my favorite places if you don't want the big generic club experience. Drink prices are expensive but no any more than any other club, and honestly prob a little bit less. We went here on 5/25 (4 girls) following a night swim at W Hotel in Brickell. We ran into a promoter at W who told us he could get us bottle service at Mokai Lounge if we head there straight away. Since we were coming from a night swim we were in bathing suits and we asked the promoter (named Darius) several times if we should head home to change into clubbing attire before we went, to which he reassured us we would be fine with what we were wearing. Darius even sent a photo of our outfits to (I'm assuming) a bottle service girl who was at the lounge already. So, we ubered from Brickell to South Beach... only to get rejected at the door. The bottle service girl seemed surprised that we were getting turned away and asked us to come back after changing but the security guards could NOT have been more rude. They couldn't even respectfully decline our entrance - they said, " where did you guys just come from, the beach? Nah nah nah, get out of this line and go home and dust the sand off your toes and maybe you can come back." They were essentially giving us disgusted looks and pushing us out on to the street. Really rude asf and I would never return here to offer my patronage... there's definitely better ways to talk to people. read more

This was one of my stops on a recent trip to Miami, recommended to us by our cab driver based on our request of somewhere playing hip-hop music. Cover was $30 for guys, free for the ladies. Slightly higher than what I'm used to, but nothing outrageous. First impressions of the club were ok. The decor was great and in good fun but be warned this place is SMALL. There really isn't anywhere to dance unless you thrust yourself into the middle of the tightly packed crowd within the booth area located at the centre of the club, but fortunately there were some empty booths scattered around which provided a little more space to sit and socialize. The bartenders were pleasant and very quick in getting to everyone at the bar (which may have more to do with the fact that it wasn't the busiest of nights) and the drinks were on par with prices for the area. I still have trouble wrapping my head around $20 for a bottle of beer but this place certainly isn't alone in charging those prices. The music is good if you're in the mood for hip-hop but the DJ wasn't anything special and seemed to be an afterthought more than anything. Our female companions enjoyed some dancing on the stage and there are a few cages for those especially daring ladies, but again the dancing space is very limited. We were fortunate enough that the crowd was great when we went and we met some cool people, because this place is so tiny you'll pretty much be hugging these people all night. More than usual from most other clubs your experience will completely depend on the crowd when you go since there isn't really anything else that differentiates this place besides some risqué decor (which was actually pretty cool if not a bit cheesy). read more

Came here by myself the week before WMC14 and it was awful. Doorman was actually ok for me, let me in after about 5 minutes but I was dressed pretty well. $30 cover for a Friday night. Inside. The layout is terrible, no dance floor to speak of just tables tables tables, it's incredibly smoky, and the DJ is playing the worst gangster rap I've heard - not danceable AT ALL. This club is shady and dangerous. The doormen also need to understand they are only doorman...they were ok to me, but being extremely rude to a group of girls waiting to get in for no reason. The cover changed while waiting in line from $30-75. Inside: the music was good, mostly hip hop and house. The venue is small and the club tries to let as many people in as possible so you can't move at all. Porn and dildos attached to the walls different but weird. You guys won't believe what happened to me tonight at Mokai! First of all I go out to clubs/bar regularly and Mokai is just like any other club in Miami... But tonight after being there for a couple of hours dancing/having drinks I got really thirsty so I went up to the bar and tried to ask a tall, skinny, giraffe looking blonde bartender for a glass of water. So she reaches into the small cooler behind the bar and hands me a bottle of Evian water. I said "No thank you, can I just have regular water? And she says "I don't do water honey" and I responded "But I'm very thirsty". So she hands me an empty cup and says to me "Here, you can go to the bathroom" Classy right? So anyway, I go to a guy bartender who was working the same bar and ask him for water and of course he gives me a cup of ice water (like any other human being would) so I go back to the girl and show her the cup of water and walked away This bartender knows nothing about customer service (or just being nice!) ... seriously, it's just water! They need to get rid of her and she'll probably be better off finding a job that doesn't require contact with other people. read more
