The first time I had the warm brownie sundae at the one in Wallingford, it was an unforgettable experience. The brownie was warm, the saltiness of the whipped cream was astounding, and the ice cream and toppings made it the best ice cream adjacent-item I've had. And then the two times I've had it since, it's been actively bad. The latest was at this location. The brownie was straight up lukewarm. It's not called the lukewarm brownie sundae. How do you mess that up. The whipped cream had no salt, and tasted actively bad. I tried to avoid it as much as possible. The only semi-decent parts were the confetti cake crumbles (think of better names for your toppings, by the way) and the scout mint brownie ice cream (this actually was good). I happened to be visiting Columbia City and stumbled across this ice cream shop when Googling some nearby dessert locations. Molly Moon's was within walking distance from where I was, so it was the ideal choice for sweets. I actually was craving ice cream for a while, and have been holding back on the calories, but since I had never been to this part of town, I decided it would be a cheat day ;) The place seems like your typical ice cream shop with cute art on the walls and some seats inside to enjoy your sweet treat. I was a bit low on monies but I REALLY wanted ice cream and ended up purchasing the single scoop of honey lavender in a cup, which totaled out to about $7.68 with tax. I'm not from Washington, but dang, that's a bit on the pricier side for me, probably because I'm used to a $6 single scoop from Baskin-Robbins. HOWEVER, despite being the cheapskate that I am, I will say that splurging on this single scoop was absolutely worth it. The honey lavender was so delicious and creamy! It was as sweet as ice cream should be, yet not overwhelming on the sugar. I would love to return with more funds to try their other flavors. I heard they have seasonal flavors, so that does pique my interest. There were 2 employees present at the time: one who took my order and the other who was retrieving my scoop of ice cream. Service was okay, but nothing memorable. I didn't stay inside, since I felt weird as a grown adult eating ice cream by myself, surrounded by kids.. so I went for a stroll back in the direction I came, enjoying my honey lavender on a lovely outcast day. I am no stranger to this place. It's lovely. Service is always kind and helpful, I love how bright and happy the shop is, and the ice cream is delicious. I go here all the time but tbh the ice cream is not mind-blowing to me. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't find it much different than like ice cream from the grocery store and the flavors tend to be "safe" (and not as creative as, say, Salt n Straw). That said, if you're visiting Seattle I'd say this is a staple must-go place and for locals, it's always fun to drop in and get a scoop. This is not cheap ice cream though at almost $7 for a single scoop, though I guess a single scoop from Baskin Robbins is already $5 and other treats like boba or fancy coffee also are in that $7 range. Their ice cream cakes are good for celebrations, and they always stock nice quality merch in-stores. The employees are super nice and will give out samples. Molly Moon's operate on a no-tip model, pays fair wages, and uplifts the local community, such as by supporting local organizations or celebrating their anniversaries and milestones and giving away freebies. Here's what's cool as ice cream about Molly Moons: While waiting in line, I was throughly impressed by what I saw. The simplistic menu, showcasing both "seasonal flavors" & " always flavors" as well as their "no tip" policy as they declare it's their responsibility, not the customers responsibility to pay a fair wage to its employees. While eating my ice cream I looked further into Molly Moons and I was humbled by how they truly value their customers, but more importantly the employees that staff their stores. The benefits given to their employees, the living wage offered and how much they give back to their community is something you do not often see in small Businesses. This was the best end of day treat. I got the cookie dough and strawberry ice cream with hot fudge and hazelnut toppings. It went great together and it was perfect after a day at Seward Park. My nephew thoroughly enjoyed his chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and my cousins split a sundae. This shop is so cute and their customer service is awesome. Well, Yeti is the flavor to get. Hands down. Melted chocolate was OK. Nothing to write home about. But Yeti, with its granola chew, chocolate chunk crunch, and caramel ribbon is heavenly hash. Impressive that Molly donates 10% of her profits to the community. Also impressive that the cups, spoons, and napkins are compostable and that she provides premium-free health care insurance to her employees. I would like to try other items, like their sundaes and shakes and maybe bump it up a star. Currently only walkup orders. Card only. No samples given (which is a shame and another reason for docking a star--how are you supposed to choose your flavor besides blindly?). Street parking only, so if it's a busy day, be prepared to park and walk. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. Came here on a Monday night and there was a line almost out the door. This place is popular! I was actually glad there was a little bit of a wait so I could decide what I wanted. There are so many options of ice cream and topping combos. Ended up getting a double scoop with one scoop being Yeti and one scoop being half Union Coffee and Melted Chocolate. The Yeti was delicious. I believe the flavor is a sweet cream base with caramel, chucks of chocolate and their granola. So yummy!
