    Spicy wonton

I am excited that a Hong Kong cafe opened up. Roast duck has that super crispy skin. Five spice seasoning is strong on the bone side but the actual meat was lacking flavor. I could've passed on the wontons. The sauce was underwhelming. It was a little vinegary but wasn't spicy. Their black pepper sirloin was good. It went well with my lemon coke.

Hong Kong Style cha chaan teng restaurant opened its second location, this one in Convoy is very spacious and clean modern decor. The parking in this plaza is not the best but is decent for Convoy. Service is very prompt and each of the dishes came out quick. They also have high chairs available for kids. The menu is an interesting variety of Hong Kong casual, dimsum, and other Chinese dishes. Baked pork chop rice is the standout. It is a little pricey but the portion is big. The rice base is flavorful, the pork chop is tasty and topped with melted cheese. Love this fusion dish local to Hong Kong! Hainan chicken rice is decent. The rice infused with chicken oil/juices is very fragrant and tasty. The chicken itself slightly lacks flavor and I would prefer it without bones (at least as an option). Good mix of dark and white meat. Beef chow fun is pretty good. The noodles are the perfect texture and nicely seasoned. The beef has mixed reviews - I thought it was decent but my husband thought it was a little too chewy. This dish is nice and not dry like other restaurants sometimes. Cold cucumber with spicy oil is refreshing and we enjoyed this as an appetizer and add some veggies to our meal. So glad to see transitional Hong Kong drinks like Hong Kong milk tea and Hong Kong lemon tea. The milk tea has strong tea flavor and a nice base.

Solid spot for HK cuisine. I've been to the Mira Mesa location but I'm glad they opened one closer to me! The interior is clean and modern, much larger and nicely decorated with Hong Kong pictures and street signs. Got seated right away when we came for a Sunday lunch around noon. Found parking but it fills up quickly. We ordered via a QR code at the table and service was quick. BBQ Combination rice (4/5): good amount of cha siu (honey BBQ pork) and roast duck, lots of rice but I wish there was more bok choy/veggies to balance it out. Cha siu was kinda dry and needed more sauce Fried thick egg noodles + shrimp (4.5/5): came with a lot of shrimp, which were plump and fresh. a little oily Portions are huge for the price and my sister and I had leftovers. I would come back to try their cafe items!

I love this new location. It's so spacious and am loving the HK cafe decor. HK milk tea has enough tea taste and even my parents agree it's close enough to LA HK cafes. I feel like the food portion here is bigger than the Mira Mesa location. Food has some wok hei and all the items we ordered were delicious. Service is decent - minimal check ins after order is taken. I did notice for servers cleaning they are wearing disposable gloves. While serving food they are using the same disposable gloves. Not sure how to feel about food being handled while touching chemicals, used tissues, plates and etc.

I've always gone to the Mira Mesa location, so when I heard that Mom's Kitchen opened on Clairemont Mesa, I had to check it out. This new location is quite spacious, very clean, and thoughtfully designed with a cute, welcoming vibe. It feels comfortable whether you're dining in with family or just stopping by for a casual meal. Service was okay, not much interaction. My dad always orders the Hainan chicken and rice -- it's his absolute favorite and consistently hits the spot. As for me, I always go for the pork katsu curry. The curry is rich and flavorful, and the katsu is perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender inside. It's the kind of dish that's both comforting and satisfying every time. Overall, the food here is packed with flavor and feels like a warm, comforting meal. I'm so glad they opened this location -- it's definitely going to be in regular rotation for us.

4.5 stars! I'm late into discovering this as they're not necessarily new and this is already their second location. But I'm so ecstatic to have found this Hong Kong-style restaurant because this is a cuisine I don't often find in the US. Ambience: I love how spacious and clean the restaurant is and the Hong Kong street signs were a cute little touch. Service: very friendly and assisting staff! What we got, ranked based on our favorite: 1. Black lava bun 2. Baked porkchop rice 3. Curry fish balls 4. Mango sago 5. Char siu 6. Pineapple fried rice Hong Kong style milk tea was also very good. Everything was delicious and authentic as it gets, however, I do think in terms of flavors, they could still intensify everything. As someone who has visited Hong Kong a number of times before, I just know that these flavors could still go deeper and probably they have kind of adapted to the local palate. But overall, we still enjoyed everything and the portions were very big. There are still other items on the menu that I am keen to try next time.

I was looking forward to trying this new Mom kitchen location having been to the Mira Mesa location. We came on a very busy Friday night with a large party of 6 and thankfully my wife had called to make a reservation so we didn't have to wait for our table. Our waiter was accommodating and friendly. We ordered: Beef Chow Fun, Roasted Half Duck, Congee, Garlic Green Beans, BBQ pork, and shrimp fried rice. The star of the night was without a doubt the roasted half duck which had perfectly crispy skin and juicy fatty meat. Our table devoured the dish. The interior is modern, bright, and clean with a primary green and white color base. The parking was very crowded as there are other popular restaurants in the plaza but we were fortunate to nab the last spot in the lot on a busy Friday night dinner at 6:30 pm.

Walking into the space, it's very bright, clean, and has some nods to Hong Kong with it's decor. We ate here right before heading out to Hong Kong so it was nice to get a taste of Cantonese food beforehand. The Cucumber Salad was decent and I thought the balance of flavors and spice was a bit off. There wasn't enough spice to counteract the more acidic vinegar taste. The Fried Noodles were solid but nothing out of the ordinary. The best dish and thing I was most excited for was the roast duck and bbq pork. I got the BBQ Rice Combo which comes as a single portion that has the meats+veggies which makes for a perfect balanced meal. These meats are what I came here for and both were really good. The duck was nice and juicy too. Some of the pork slices were better than others but overall the flavor was great.

At first I thought this was the same menu as the Mira mesa location but it actually has a bit more options here (or it's been awhile since I went to the Mira mesa location...) I got the cheese pork chop rice and it was really good! It just takes 20 mins for them to make! The location has a lot more seating than the Mira mesa spot.

We are so excited to see new Hong Kong restaurant! The restaurant is located in a very busy plaza with limited parking. We had to circle around for a few times on a Friday night to find parking. The restaurant is beautifully decorated! It's quite elegant! It's like a fine dinning version of Hong Kong restaurant, but offering a very authentic menu. The food options are much more limited compared to the traditional Chinese restaurant. We ordered the two meat combo, chicken and duck, and the sautéed morning glory. The duck was excellent! I was very impressed by it. The chicken was also very good. The morning glory was also very delicious, but overall, all the dishes here are quite salty. Their Hong Kong milk tea is great! We like this new restaurant! It's delicious and offering simple classic Hong Kong food and plates. We are likely to come back and try other dishes.

My son and husband were craving for Chinese food and we spotted MOM KITCHEN on our way home. The parking was not easy for us to find in the area since it's a small area and there are also a couple of restaurants lined up where they are. The restaurant looks very appealing, it's bright inside and beautiful. We got seated right away and quickly found what we wanted to eat. We had the following foods: *FRIED RICE *HONEY GLAZED BBQ *COMBINATION PAN FRIED NOODLE *SEAFOOD TOFU *CHILI BOILED FOOD I wanted to try their Mixed Roast Platter, but they are out of the Roast Duck that day, so I just ordered the HONEY GLAZED BBQ, its a oven roasted Marinated Cha Sin coated with Maltose and Honey was very Tender and delicious. The FRIED RICE has a good Seaweed taste on it and I really liked it. For COMBINATION PAN FRIED NOODLE, the sauce was thick and good. THE BOILED FISH was just okay, it needed salt, but just that's just my opinion, my son and husband were just okay with it. IT'S just that our young SERVER LADY was such a Turn off the time of our Dinner there, so many bad vibes. She barely showed up for water refills etc and she was also rude, one example was when I asked for salt for my BOILED FISH, she answered with this annoyed face and voice saying "do you really need salt, isn't there enough salt in it" ... okay if I was satisfied with the seasoning of my soup I don't think I would ask for salt for me to season it more accordingly to what I want. I'm paying for it, so just speak nicely or just say coming right up and give me a salt! My eyebrows wouldn't even rise up if she said it nicely, but she said it with an attitude. Or just say they don't have any salt and not give me a tone with attitude. Another server, Jason, noticed my Dine in experience was not going well so he came and asked how our food was, if everything was alright, and that if we needed anything that he is there to assist us. Good thing this JASON came and got our dinner back in an okay mood. When we got home I just noticed that there is a charge for Seafood and Tofu, and I don't remember eating it or seing it on our table. But all in all the Food is good here.

Went for Chinese New Year and the wait was long. When we finally got our food, we were disappointed with the quality. The combination bbq plate and shumai were decent but both noodles dishes were lacking flavor. We got the shrimp and XO sauce vermicelli dish and the combination pan fried noodles. There was too much bean sprout and the sauce was watery. My favorite part about noodles is the wok/charred flavor and this was absolutely missing in both dishes.

I visited Mom Kitchen on Clairemont Mesa Blvd for their grand opening. Place is very nice and shiny. Much larger than the Mira Mesa location. Sticky rice with Chinese sausage was sticky and I loved the savory flavor of the Chinese sausage and the mini dehydrated shrimp. A bit too much cilantro was that bold flavor hid the flavor of the rest of the sticky rice. Cola pork ribs featured tender ribs with very sweet syrup glazed on top. Very good but I prefer the sweet red sauce from traditional Chinese bbq ribs. Filtered water with ice was clean and refreshing. Staff was nice and efficient.

It was empty coming in around 5:30pm on a Friday, but it soon filled to capacity in the next hour. So coming into it, we thought we would choose between Menu A and Menu B. Afterwards, we thought it was AYCE on the menu of your choice + the side buffet where there are limited selections of sides and refrigerated drinks. We ordered orange chicken, Chinese style fish and something else. Again, this was on the thought that we could order more than one item on our selected menu. So imagine our surprise when the bill was nearly $100 for two people? It was a misunderstanding. However, the initial staff gentlemen was completely rude about it and ignored us as we sought to understand. Finally, a second female server came and heard our concerns regarding the false advertisement and unclear messaging. She was able to provide us the price we thought this was for based on Menu selection. All in all - I don't recommend the AYCE option. I think it would be important to make a distinction that AYCE clearly on the menu and at the front - AYCE means each individual selects ONE entree (which is a one small portion) and the AYCE component of the deal is ONLY for the side buffet.
