Called for a delivery and wanted to cancel literally 10 seconds after hanging up and she said no we already made it and the driver is heading there. How is it possible you put in my order and make it within 10 seconds?!?!! Not only that, she gave me the nastiest attitude and you want me to give you my money? Never ordering from here and so is my husband and his coworkers who orders here every week. How can you be so rude to your customers? Thirdly, I did specify I did not want the order no more which is why I said I want to cancel but the rude lady said it's too late. Fourthly, it does not take 30 mins to drive to my address I can also prove to you with google map. And on top of that I was not rude to the driver. I apologized to him as well as telling him the rude lady on the phone did not want to cancel my order. I'm not the first person to complain about the lady rude attitude as you can see. I give them credit for staying busy for over a decade, but our last visit was disappointing. The sushi and sashimi tasted as if straight from being packed in too much ice--hard and cold. The rice was undistinguished, the soup and edamame were ok; the salad meh. The waitress was very nice, but the food arrived in bizarre fashion, especially as no other party was in the restaurant--2 of the 4 identical salads arrived long before the other two and the hot entrees well before the sushi. Pricing is moderate and it is byo, with ample parking. Mizu in Cranford, Nagoya in Westfield and Asian Taste in Clark are significantly better choices. read more

Came here during a weekday and there were only two other customers dining. The service was super slow. I'd understand if it was busy and packed but it wasn't. They also completely forgot about our meal so my guest and I were here longer than expected. For my meal I got sweet potato sushi and vegetable teriyaki. The sushi was AMAZING and I would 100% come back just for that. The vegetable teriyaki wasn't good due to it being very watery and really didn't taste like teriyaki, it just tasted like I ordered steamed vegetables. First off, the restaurant offers a half off sushi menu (they don't tell you unless you ask). No big deal, right? Wrong. She rolled her eyes, walked away to get the menu, and proceeded to drop it on the table rather than hand it to us. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if you offer such a deal, why get upset when people want to order from it? Despite this, their food was actually good. HORRIBLE service. As in laughably horrible. As in my waitress rolled her eyes at me twice. As in the manager tried to take my order but rushed and interrupted me when she had a phone call. However, if you can laugh this off and give a bad tip instead of getting offended, the sushi here is pretty good and the simple rolls are a decent price. They have awesome and cheap lunch specials. And the restaurant itself, though small and run down looking on the outside, is actually pretty cozy, clean, and well-decorated on the inside. Returned to momotaro tonight and I was pleasantly surprised when we learned that the brash and abrasive owner has left! The menu is the same and the chicken teriyaki continues to amaze. If there was a way to give this place a zero I would. Years ago I started going there because it was the only place in town. I found a lady who is probably the owner to be the rudest person I ever met. The sushi was OK. Then after period of time or place is opened and I chose to go to them instead . When Covid hit I wanted to give local businesses the business and went back. I still found her to be the same . The sushi is just OK. Well today I went for one last try again knowing what all these businesses go through and how much business they are losing I figured maybe just maybe she would be better. And I was wrong. I came across this place when my cousin and I tagged along with his sister and our other girl cousin to eat here! And what a great decision that was! Been going here ever since, but lately i've been slacking. For starters i usually get the deep fried gyoza, the best gyoza ever! And then maybe another order of it. lol. It comes out soooooo crunchy and crispy and soooo good with that dipping sauce! Then when i've had enough gyoza i'll order the chicken teriyaki! Your mouth will start to water as soon as you see it and smell it! One of the best teriyakis i've had! I've also had their shrimp teriyaki, which is good also, a couple sushi rolls and their shumai. This was my My first time here.. We ordered the fireball and salmon pizza for appetizer. Salmon pizza wasn't good. Only issue first off was the wait for food. It seemed like they needed more staff. Noticed most of the people waiting long times for food. Took us two hours from start to finish and it seemed way to long. I ordered the pai thai and it was not that good. Seemed liked it was microwaved and they added peanuts. My friend got sushi said it was ok.The food wasn't the best that's for sure. The fireball was the best of all the things we ordered. Food wise it's very good, I usually order from here just because of convenience purposes. But I've always enjoyed the food here in general. Atmosphere, can feel as if the place is empty or just not busy, which doesn't bother me at all. But as the old saying: a restaurant that is empty, beware. Why only 3 stars? Well, I have quite a few sushi places that I normally eat at, this being one of them. On the rating list for me I've honestly had way better experiences at other establishments, the competition is pretty fierce when it comes to my favorite spots. Very Japanese/Chinese restaurant, with a kind of faded, 80's feel. Very clean though, just the style is a little dated. I loved the atmosphere overall though. I got katsudon, and it was very yummy. The place has a very big menu. No free refills on coke, but oh well, seems like so few places have free refills anymore. Someone wrote that the bathroom smelled, and I went and checked specifically because of that, and the bathroom smelled fine. :) The place felt quirky and unique..I liked it in weird way. My husband and I haven't been here in years. We ordered sushi for 2 and an order of beef pad Thai. The food was excellent! I would have given it 5 stars however the service was poor. The woman that waited on us was very rude. There were 5 tables in the restaurant and we were one of two tables that needed serving. We both felt like we were bothering her. I have been going to this place since last few years The owner or whoever the receptionist is, is very rude. I ordered vegetarian pad Thai and it came with eggs. I told her I never asked for eggs in it. She is like it comes in there by default and you should have told us that you don't need eggs. Nowhere in the menu says that pad Thai includes eggs by default and she did not mention that either while taking the order. She started arguing that I'm first one complaining like that egg was include in vegetarian pad Thai and forcing me to accept wrong order I stood my grounds and told her that if eggs are vegetables. She is like we made this already and I replied that I am not paying for something that I don't wanna eat She angrily took my order back and made the correct one . This is No-No-taro for me no more! Yeah their chicken katsu and spicy Kani roll are good compared to other ones I've tasted, but it IS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE, their service is just very very POOR. After some time of not going to this resto and you muster the courage to eat there again...they never fail to disappoint. They are just not worth the aggravation. If you're eating there on a weekend make sure you plan for a 2-hour minimum dining experience, even if you're just getting a chicken katsu, spicy Kani roll and shrimp tempura. Plus their waitresses who seem to pretend to not speak/understand English, then when you complain about them to the manager, they understand you and can say no! Time and again they are on point in giving a terrible experience, and we've gone here more than 8x in the past few years, but their service or lack thereof is just unforgettable in a negative way. Try to call them up for delivery/pick up and tell them you're getting from half price sushi and the manager will be rude to you, despite advertising this on their website! They choose their discount based on the manager's mood, sample is my in-law called to get 3 orders of avocado roll and 2 Kani roll and the manager told him no more half sushi. We called an hour later and they gave us half price sushi on spicy kani roll, but charged us $3 for spicy mayo....they are very inconsistent. Just be aware. And expect for a long dining experience. Will NEVER GO BACK nor give business TO THIS RESTO. Final straw is their waitress scared my toddler because my 3 yr old was playing with a new chopstick, and the waitress - who does not speak English, just grabbed the chopstick and said no to my child rudely. Japanese curry rice and pineapple fried rice is excellent as well as their teriyaki dishes. They can accommodate larger parties and byob is a plus!! I can see why people rated the service poorly but to be fair, it depends on who is there. The main hostess is always very friendly and recognizes us when we come in. This is one of the more established Japanese restaurants in the area. It used to be a very popular, lively place, but that has changed. The atmosphere has faded, like the illuminated, backlit sign out front. (Update: the sign has been replaced). The fresh, hot oshiburi towel you used to get at the start of the meal is now a dry handi-wipe in a cellophane package. The smiling waitresses no longer glide through the restaurant in elegant kimonos. Now, they're as grim-faced as Kabuki masks, and dress in somber black unisex shirts and pants. However, they do bring you what you've ordered, and refill your mug of green tea without having to ask. The sushi and the hot food is passable. This is far from the best Japanese food I have had, but everything is edible. There is a very large selection of sushi rolls to choose from. Prices are average.
