My friends and I flipped a U for these pies while on our way to winetasting. Thank goodness we did, because we could not stop obsessing over them throughout the rest of the trip! This homely, no-frills outpost had a fridge case full of pies big and small. You have the option of buying a full blown pie, a slice or a mini-sized pie that feeds about 4 ppl. Almost all of us got our own mini pie, w/ me indulging in their Strawberry Rhubarb pie. Not only did I pause in the middle of winetasting just to do some pie shoveling into my pie hole, but I also rallied together the others in the group to dig in for a bite and they were just as taken by its deliciousness. The others that had opted for blackberry pies were shoveling away as well and I love how one even claimed that she was "sobering up" w/ her pie. Hm, that's a new one! Now, I wouldn't say that these are the world's absolute best pies, but given the location and situation it really is a great fit. I for one even enjoyed my Strawberry Rhubarb pie leftovers the next day, so I think that goes to say that my judgement wasn't too clouded by wine and gluttony. I almost don't want to share this place because it's so comfy and has an "undiscovered" feel (despite having been featured on Diners, Driveins & Dives a while back). Mom's has great pies. The fillings are fresh and yummy, The crust on these are thinner and more dense. They have large and small sized pies that they make everyday, so you always purchasing fresh, and if you don't know what to get, you can get two small pies! They also sell by the slice if you prefer that. lol. My favorites are the Coconut Cream, Banana Cream, and the Apricot Pie, followed by the Blackberry. My family members swear by the Pecan Pie (I'm not a fan of pecan, really). They sometimes do seasonal pies. Also, Mom's is great for a quick lunch. My favorite is the roasted chicken sandwich, which I've had multiple times. The chili is also good. When they have their house-made applesauce make sure you get it! Yum! In this age of corporate restaurants, it's nice to find a place with familiar faces you see everyday, where the food is good, the environment is clean, and the people are smiling. Apple pie was quite yummy - great crust and great filling. I would say just a touch too sweet but when cut by whipped cream, it's just right. I would also prefer some bigger chunks, but that's just a texture preference. Also, I am very very picky about crust and almost never eat it, but this one was just right. We bought a large apple pie and the staff was nice enough to cut us a few slices and warm them up for eating right there and then. I think we got the last pie sometime around 2pm so make sure to get here before they sell out. The small peach pie also had a good crust but it did not have enough filling and the peaches did not look to be fresh (perhaps canned). For our wedding, we ordered 14 pies from Mom's: apple, cherry, peach, and lemon meringue. I tried all but the lemon meringue, and they were so delicious. The cherry was the perfect blend of sour and sweet, not too cloying like some cherry pies can be. The apple pies are piled high with fruit (the photos on the website are no exaggeration), and the peach pies tasted just like the ones my Gran and mom used to bake together. The staff at Mom's is great, and although big orders like this aren't a daily thing for them, the manager was easy to work with. I will definitely stop by next time I'm in Sebastopol to pick up more pies. read more

My friends all love pies. We gather once a month to go camping and I pass by Mom's. Finally, after more than a year of passing by, I decided to stop and give it a try. First thing was a potty stop. Nice roomy bathroom with unframed poster art. Next, order a sandwich. I chose the turkey on rye. While that was being made, I gave the pies a lookover. I don't like apple pie, so selected a small cherry pie. The girl behind the counter was really nice, and knew of the camp ground I was going to, since she lived in that town. She handed my food to me and I was off. When I ate the sandwich, I was happy with it, but for the $7, it wasn't anything special, certainly not as good as Mia's in Molalla (see my review here). As for the pie; it was pretty good, but not as good as my grandmother made. The crust was sort of thick, like I could taste the crisco. The deli sandwiches are very delicious!! They are generous with the ingredients, too! The entire bakery is extremely CLEAN -- which is a huge huge bonus to me! I always feel better, and safer, about eating in restaurants / food establishments that are well kept and squeaky clean on every corner. It shows that they work hard and care about the wellbeing and safety of their customers. The pies that we have had are definitely very good, handmade and beautiful. After thirty plus years of pie I am done.Sadly it has changed over time and I had one of the driest pecan pies that nobody wanted to eat it and they put back the pieces they sliced and sent it home with me.We all have a bad day but when I went in to talk to the staff manager I was scolded and scowled at while she ate a pecan and said I was wrong.Ok a simple smile and sorry would have been a good start, but they have lost a sense of hospitality that remember and a customer too.For $27.50 I probably have options sans the reprimand. read more

Here's the thing - the sandwich was great (hence the 2 stars). But the sides (choice of chips, potato salad, or macaroni salad) are not only outdated and unnecessary, but also (macaroni salad - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T DO IT!) gave me really-gnarly-system-reboot food poisoning. I came for their annual strawberry cream pies, sold exclusively during the Mother's day holiday. I called ahead and they said that they would not be taking any advance reservations, and that the pies are now sold first-come-first-serve. If they have a fixed supply, that's fair. I came in the next day with this information. I was told over the phone the pies would be ready when they opened. Nope! I called as I was leaving home-- 11 minutes away from the shop-- and asked if they still had it, when the girl (with terrible phone educate) said yes, they do. While it didn't take long to get there, the shop was still way out in what seemed like the middle of nowhere, and when we asked for a bowl of their cream of broccoli, they winced and responded, "I'm sorry, we're out. I have been going to Mom's for many many years on my way to the Russian River. It has always been a goto stop for pie and occasionally a sandwich. In the past the pies have been to die for with a great crust and great filling. As you may have guessed, I have some bad news. I purchased a strawberry rhubarb and an apple pie on this trip for about $18 a pie. Both pies seemed to have gone through some sort of grinding machine with their filling mealy as if it were an apple sauce. The flavor was ok, but the consistency abominable. The crust was ok and not too chewy as if from a rolling machine, but did tear unlike a nice flakey crust. It was impossible to get a piece of pie out as it stuck to the tin and disintegrated. I later figured out to scoop it out as if it were ice cream. I also noticed a new iPad collecting the money up front. It is almost as if mom has retired and the store has been taken over by those who seemingly can follow a recipe, but do not have the expertise to carry it out. May we have our Mom's pies back please? Maybe Mom can come out of retirement and save the day? I am now in search of a new pie place. Sadly, A pie lover. read more

We usually get the chocolate cream pie, but last time we bought an entire pie (mind you they're not cheap) and it didn't taste normal. It was almost a Jello rather than a chocolate cream pie. We called twice and never got a phone call back. Until we can get a response back, we won't be back. It feels as if we were scammed. I saw this place in Sunset and went with the family- we got three small pies and they were all awful! The blueberry was frozen blueberries which made the berries tough (?!!) the apple was flavorless. Even worse- the crust was flavorless and not flaky! I don't even think they were fresh. We ended up throwing them away after they sat around for a few days. No one wanted them, even smothering them in ice cream didn't help! I don't even like ice cream or whip cream messing with my pie. I LOVE pie, it's my favorite food group! . Mr. and Mrs. Carr of Carr's Drive-In fame down the road in Forestville opened a little pie shop in the 80s in this old converted service station and hit the jackpot. Betty's brilliance as a pie maker is very well known in the area and word has traveled around. The store and restaurant have gone through many changes over the last 20 years and the place has never looked better. Get yourself an apple pie (no brainer) using locally grown Gravenstein apples. Based on the reviews I've read here it must hit some peoples tastes but it was too sour for me. I get the not-too-sweet thing but to me it was just plain pucker time. I also should have looked closer at the prices before I bought because $17.95 is a lot for a pie. The staff was indeed friendly but I didn't like the fact that they solicit for a tip when you prepay. My wife pointed out that I should have commented on the fact that the filling was overcooked and the crust seemed to be under cooked. Since so many people have had a positive reaction we may have just gotten a bad apple but we won't try again. read more

I like the pies at Mom's Apple Pie. I've been to this place many times and have always enjoyed their pies. But my experience today was horrible. I understand that it's the day before Thanksgiving and it does get busy. I pre-ordered my apple pie along with two other pies. I got there and was met with a long line. No worries. Everyone else who pre-ordered pies was in line too. Finally got to the front and paid my money. Then for some reason people just started walking to the front and were given apple pies before us, the folks who waited for a long time for our turn. So what happens? Well they ran out of apple pies and we're left with squat! I drove an hour to this place just to be told that pies were all gone. But we were offered to come back tomorrow. this review is only for the pies. why eat a sandwich when they have seventy-five flavors of pie (ok, not quite that many), and who cares what the service is like? bought a large apple pie to bring home, and tried slices of the coconut cream pie and the strawberry-rhubarb. all three were superb. the crust is flaky, light, and not too sweet (i am guessing shortening-based), and the fillings are generous, and just oh so good. not normally a big fan of coconut cream pie, but this one had even me wow-ing. the strawberry-rhubarb was tart and sweet and the fruit was melt in your mouth, but still had texture. the apple pie was seriously as good as my grandma's. perfect ratio of cinnamon and spice to tart sweet apples. definitely ate some cold for breakfast the next day. i want to come back to try the other flavors i skipped (apricot, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, blueberry, etc etc etc). it's definitely worth a trip out of the way to get some pie. read more

I live in Forestville and have been here many times. The funny thing is most of the reviews nail it - go for the pies not the sandwiches or the ambiance. It's a pie shop on 116 not a destination resort! I'm partial to the pecan or blueberry pies. The apple turnovers are better than the apple pies to me.
