From start to finish, this place got it down right. The ambiance is a vibe & the food is on point. Chef Dan has a very creative array of Mediterranean dishes that blend well with the awesome cocktails on their menu. The mezze platter is a must for a group dinner. You can't go wrong with any of the mains, but both chicken dishes, the risotto, and the lobster pasta are next level. We got the chance to meet the head Chef, Dan, and he was as real as it gets. He treated us to some drinks on the house and made sure we felt at home. This is the new spot in SM! Visited Mon Ami with very high hopes but left deeply disheartened. The manager (Fabrizio) displayed a surprising level of arrogance and a clear lack of customer service sensibility. We asked for a small adjustment to the umbrella for some shade, but he refused with a dismissive attitude about the sun's movement and went on to say if he moved it for us then there would be people sat there and they would then want it moved for them and he doesn't want to have to purchase more umbrellas. All he had to do was move the umbrella less than 3-feet and our table would have been covered in shade and we wouldn't have hurried out of there because we were baking in the Sun. In addition there was near-empty patio during our 90-minute stay and that umbrella spot in particular remained vacant. He offered us a booth inside but I had a small dog with me and we were already settled at our table. The food quality did not redeem the experience either. With dishes at no less than $20 a piece, we were left with an overwhelmingly bready sandwich and subpar sausage leaving us unsatisfied. But the most unsettling incident occurred upon our departure. When the manager inquired about our experience, I provided honest feedback. His reaction was wholly inappropriate; he followed me out of the restaurant and aggressively to the sidewalk, raising his voice and causing distress to both me and my friends. Such behavior is not only unprofessional but poses a potential safety concern. I will be taking this matter up with the restaurant's owner. For those considering this spot, I implore you to choose from the myriad of better, more welcoming establishments in the area. read more

The dip appetizer was great, however, there was one other group of girls eating in the whole restaurant and we never got our entrees. We had to leave after an hour of waiting and we cancelled the entrees. Something is going on with their kitchen staff. We made eye contact with the only other table in the restaurant and we bonded over their similar experience. They said it took 1 hour to get their burger with fries. Again, we were the only ones there. It was confusing. Beautiful location but plan on paying $10 for parking. I would not go back unless I have 5 hours of free time to deal with their unique service approach. read more

This restaurant is tucked away off of the Main Street, which is nice. We were seated outside and the ambiance was great. The waiter and waitstaff were helpful and friendly. The mezze platter was delicious, got the potato, baba ganoush and nasomusuir. Justin, the server, helpfully mentioned that portions are large so three of us split the Caesar and lobster pasta. The food is exceptional. Chef Daniel, what can I say your hospitality was beyond words. Your recipes are clever and flavorful. You have to try the appetizer plate that you select and if they are on the menu these puffs with feta and spinach they were to die for. The beauty of the restaurant was also there. Great date place even on a rainy night in So Cal. However when it's not rainy the patio is lovely. Highly recommend. And !! We thoroughly enjoyed the mezze platter to start with baba ghanoush, nas-o-musir (house made yoghurt) and potato zeppole. I had the branzino (quite tasty) and my husband loved the seven-spice grilled chicken. The only big miss was the buckwheat tabbouleh. There was just a very small sprinkling of buckwheat so it was an overpriced tomato and cucumber salsa. We do plan to go back when it is a little warmer to sit in their beautiful outdoor space. As Mediterranean food fans, we were all excited to try Mon Ami, but we were quite disappointed. We left the meal feeling that it was just average. The ambiance was once again another tulum themed, beachy, ratan and palm covered joint. The music was very loud and club-like but the restaurant was less than half full. Our service was good, no complaints there. We got the mezze platter with hummus, nas-o-musir, potato zeppole, and the Calabrian shrimp. I did not enjoy the hummus or the zeppole. I've had much better hummus elsewhere, and the sauce that the zeppole came with was not doing anything for me. The shrimp and nas-o-musir were nice, great flavor on the shrimp. We were recommend the pesto gnocchi, which none of us loved, it was dry and lacking. The Greek salad was fine, but inauthentic. The lobster pasta was probably the best dish, but still none of us loved it. It was very overwhelming cumin-y and not much lobster. Overall, didn't love the food or the ambiance, (it's also in the most touristy area of Santa Monica), won't be back :( read more

I had the pleasure of indulging in a wide variety of their menu with a family-style meal and it was amazing. My favorites were the Whipped Feta (a creamy whipped feta with pita bread), Potato Zeppole (fried potato bread with amazing most delicious spicy sauce on the side), 7 Spice Chicken (a half chicken with both dark and light meat topped with a verity of spices). The standout drink was the Elrey--a mozzarella-washed vodka with clarified tomato-basil cordial. It was a unique and must-try concoction. Mom Ami is a gem that offers a memorable dining experience with exceptional food and a vibrant atmosphere 10/10. read more

We spent our wedding anniversary having a wonderful dinner at Mon Ami. It was our second time and we enjoyed the food just as much or more! They also offer a great happy hour until 7 pm. Last time we sat inside and we sat outside on Monday. We ordered the Mini Zeppole and Winter Salad off the Happy Hour menu. Both were amazing! Highly recommend! Gnocchi were fried and served in a rough pesto -- one of us enjoyed quite a bit, the other thought it was good. The cauliflower + mushroom shawerma was average pita and average shawerma. Omnivores got the crab risotto - felt to be delicious and the calabrian prawn (shareable size) which was uninspired. Ended with the loukomades -- fried dough, can't go wrong. Overall, average quality meal at high price point. Nothing blew our mind. Bavel remains our go to mediterranean spot in LA. People watching was a plus here. read more
