We entered and it was a small little sushi joint and people were starting to flock in which was good. It was a friday evening. There were couples and friends dining. The sushi was decent. Nothing extravagant at all. Perhaps the sushi was a bit large slices. The rolls though were really good. We liked the lobster roll the most (10/10) spider roll with the pineapple (10/10) candy roll (10/10) and dragon (8/10). The dragon roll eel kinda tasted too fishy. My recent trip to Cali was a whirlwind, so I'm glad my check-in here reminded me to write a review! I wanted sushi, and this place seemed overall highly-rated. I remember it being lively but not jam-packed. There looked to be plenty of staff, but service was really slow. It kinda knocked down the fun vibe a bit when you start to wonder if they even see you sitting there. But I got a couple of rolls and they were pretty good overall but nothing to write home about. Went over the weekend -- it was so good! Stopped in during the lull between lunch and dinner, had the whole place almost to ourselves. Small space, and just right. I admit when I looked at the menu online, some of the fusion rolls made me worry it would be too gimmicky -- but I was so pleased to find that their standard rolls were excellent, and the couple fusion items we decided to try did not disappoint. Got the Rock n' Roll Roll & The Pink Lady-- both were great-- but the Super Cat Roll was the real star of the show. Sushi spot with lunch specials close to the metro stop. Came here on a Thursday for lunch with a coworker around 11:30am. There were two other tables occupied when we got there but it was pretty empty (all indoor seating). We split some edamame and ordered from the lunch special menu. I got the 2 P.C. hand roll combination which also came with miso soup, salad, and a croquette. I liked the croquette more than I thought I would - it came piping hot and had a soft, creamy middle. The miso soup was also good and not too salty. For the hand rolls, I got the spicy tuna and the salmon. They were pretty generous with the fish portion provided. The seaweed got a bit soggy but the rice to fish ratio was good. I preferred the salmon over the spicy tuna. They let you split the bill with and take credit cards. An old hang out spot when I used to live here in Santa Monica! I would come in here practically every Thursday from a flight as it was walking distance from my place. Has it changed you asked? It has a bit but it's like eating at home. You can have the television channels changed, the staff would strike up a conversation, and the food is good. Only thing I can't do is wake up groggy and stumble into my kitchen and prepare a roll! That's what professionals are for! Got good reviews and when I arrived there were people there and take out orders leaving so I thought I made a good choice. Ordered a salmon skin salad which is listed on the menu and I was careful to ask what kinds of greens they use for the salad. The server brought us the salad and a salmon skin cut roll...at first I thought oh this is what they do here but then it was clear they thought we ordered that...so as I hate to waste ..I kept both...but there was no gobo in either the salad or the roll, no cucumber no avo just very very stripped down. Thats all I ordered as I then could only see a few items in the sushi ice section where he was working. Disappointed but maybe not the place for me. . I visit Mon Roll House Sushi during my lunch break. It's walkable from my work. Just in case it isn't obvious to you, they mainly serve sushi as the name of the restaurant implies (apparently it was an issue one day). Keep in mind that it's fusion sushi, so they have a lot of dishes with cool names and often times they're cooked and saucy. If that's what you're going for, you're at a good place. I sit at the counter and chat with the sushi chefs. It's fun to watch and chat. It's a small space that is a little dim and somewhat lavish but relaxing. It's a good vibe. If you ask for their favorite roll, they'll probably tell you to get the Amazing Kiss ($12.95). That's made with crab, spicy tuna, seared tuna, and seared albacore with a sesame unagi sauce. It's pretty tasty and I've had it more than once. Delicious. Good presentation. One day I tried the Volcano Roll, the special on the board, which is basically a California Roll with spicy tuna, baked salmon, and jalapenos with a spicy sauce. I though it was a little too saucy, but hey, it was on fire! I didn't get a picture because I couldn't get a picture of the flame. Super Cat Roll ($13.95) is refreshing and Sexy Girl ($12.95) is yummy. I think it's just fun to try the different rolls. They have lunch specials. I don't remember all of them, but the one I usually get is the one with California Rolls, Spicy Tuna Rolls, Salad, croquette, and miso soup and this is about $8.99. It's satisfying. Oh the miso soup is filling since it has tofu, seaweed, and mushrooms. It's sushi...if you're really hungry and want to spend less, go somewhere else! The prices are comparable to other sushi joints and this is in Santa Monica. It's across from Santa Monica Place on 4th Street and Third Street Promenade is not too far off. Cherry Blossom... Love Potion... Sexy Girl??? No no, these aren't the magic words you use in order to lay your hands on some lovin, but they are the names for some of these ridiculously tasty fusion sushi rolls. Roll House Sushi places an emphasis on being a Japanese fusion sushi bar, and they certainly live up to its name. I came here for lunch with a group of friends after we discovered how busy Bay Cities Italian Subs proved to be if you don't place an online order. As we yelped, what gave away its location were the little Japanese lanterns hanging outside the restaurant. We were seated right away next to the window, which was the biggest table in the house, so I would reccomend only coming here with a small group. The restaurant is small but cozy, with a variety of background music from latin jams to the latest electro-pop. They really are paying an emphasis on being a "fusion" restaurant here! The walls were also beautifully decorated with an indoor mural with lavish colors, and the ceiling had umbrellas handing from the top. Gorgeous! As for the food... our first look at the menu left us stunned. There were SO MANY rolls to choose from; many of which were created specifically by the owners or chefs. They have awesome names for them including Fire Dragon, Dynasty, Amazing Kiss... the list seriously goes on. What really helped were the elaborate descriptions of each roll below its name, as well as the pictures. Though I usually settle for nigiri, the complex names of these rolls made it a requirement for me to try. I ordered two rolls: 1. Salmon skin roll ($4.95) - Comes in five pieces and was definitely one of the best salmon skin rolls I had ever had. 2. Tsunami Blossom Roll ($11.95) - The second roll came out with an amazing presentation. The sushi rolls were shaped into a flower, with slices of salmon in the middle. It was dosed with sweet house sauces, and was absolutely delicious. The yellowtail inside definitely stood out in my taste buds. I also got to try the King of Kings roll from my friend, which was also very filling and delicious. Hands down, this was one of the better places for Americanized sushi rolls. The service was nice, the sushi was great, and the PRESENTATION of the rolls were flawless. Each roll would be customized in design, and added such a level of art to sushi. However, it is a bit pricey, so watch your wallets. I will come back to be more adventurous and try out more of these rolls. Today we were automatically charged an 18% gratuity. I wasn't able to find a posting that stated this, so be cautious if you see that your bill is a little bit higher than it is. At least with a party of five, gratuity will be included. Parking is available on the street if you're lucky, or in many various lots around 3rd street promenade. read more

TLDR; if you're just looking to satisfy your sushi cravings, then come here. Average sushi house - not authentic, but the rolls are pretty good! Some of them were very unique like the Maui roll, so I'm not sure how suitable it would be for everyone's personal taste. It's a small place, with little room to even walk around the tables. Bar seating is plenty though, but not good for large parties. I would say 4-5 max to enjoy your time here. FOOD: I here on a whim from shopping at Third Street Promenade and tried out a few handrolls and the Spanish fly and Candy roll. Both were good, I wish the pieces were a little bigger but for $8 on happy hour prices, it wasn't terrible. They only have one tiny bathroom with a sink right outside so I'm not sure how they have their liquor license, but overall this place gave cozy vibes. SERVICE: Friendly server, but I wish she was a little more attentive. We waited a few minutes for her to come around so we can order more, but the place wasn't busy at all. I guess. -I ordered my first round Fuji Vulcano-2 orders, beer and hot sake as always. My favorite set! -The first volcano arrived after 15 minutes. I wasn't even worry about this. Then, she said you order two right? I said yes. She said is coming. So my friend didn't eat and wait for me. It took another 20'minutes for second Set we ordered originally. -You have to enjoy Fuji while it's warm. So my friend wait all this time for me, she was very hungry. - I realized they served both sushi without Spicy Tuna-it's a Main ingredient!!! -I got a little frustrated... guys are you kidding me?? I brought you another client, why you are doing this? -I asked again for server. She told me you want to cancel order-I said at this point yes, please. -So, I was mad but I thought they could be busy or something.
