I ordered for pick up during Covid and when I arrived 20 minutes later my order was up front, bagged and tagged with my name and ready to go. Everything was made how I ordered it. Sushi was fresh and good sized rolls. I ordered the Crunch roll, Mango roll and seaweed salad. Decent prices for good quality. Limited drink selection and not many sushi row selections but what is offered is very good. Great HH prices on Japanese beer and sake and a small variety of very good sushi rolls. If you want a super authentic, bougie, high end sushi place, there's plenty of them around here! Didn't notice. Rolls? Delicious. We got the Volcano (baked salmon, tuna, and crab roll with avocado), the Love Potion (my favorite), and the spicy tuna roll (that was actually legit spicy ). Along with a miso soup and seaweed salad. Plenty of ginger on the side (went somewhere last week and they gave NO wasabi or ginger with their rolls... wtf!?). Sushi was not good at all didn't taste fresh and salmon roll was so oily it left residue on my lips. Small inside and when you're sitting at the bar it feels like you're in everyone's way. Just didn't feel clean. We did not tip due to service AND food not being great but we left our shopping bag and when we went inside to get it we were asked why we didnt tip?? Absolutely love Mon Roll! I always go for their Happy Hour menu. My favorites are the Caterpillar roll and the Spider roll, and these are both 50% off ($7.5 per roll) during the Happy Hour (5pm-7pm every day)! Most of their nigiri orders are 50% off as well ($2.25-$2.75). Mon Roll is not a fancy high end sushi bar but a modest, down to earth little Japanese restaurant that will make both your wallet and belly happy (especially if you go during the Happy Hour)! I was pretty underwhelmed by the california rolls from here. I was gonna go for the safest sushi out there because i was in a rush and didn't want to sit there an look for too long. Somehow they messed up a simple california roll and it tasted super bland and disappointing. Makes me wonder if their other sushi choices are even worth it. Their miso soup also tasted very different from any other miso soup I've had; too much salt. We were the only dine-in customers and they weren't checking in on us. They even forgot to get us the extra teriyaki sauce we wanted and we had to remind them. They also didn't give us straws to drink our water with. In general a very "meh" experience. While running an errand for work, I decided to stop at Mon Roll House Sushi for lunch. It had hole in the wall written all over it. I was the only patron at 12:20 on a Friday---not the best of signs. But sushi is more of a dinner item, so I shrugged the thought aside. I wanted something light so opted for my go-to items: miso soup and salmon skin roll. Miso soup: Perfect as is. For once in a long time, I didn't need to add soy sauce or salt. It had mushrooms, tofu, and lots of sea weed. Salmon Skin Roll: The platting was beautiful, but the roll was a little too charred for my taste. It was too crunchy and bitter at times. This was definitely one of the worst salmon skin roll I've had. I'll give it another try. Maybe a shrimp tempura next time. My rule of thumb: cooked sushi for lunch, raw for dinner. read more

We wished for the good service that folks mentioned on Yelp. Tonight it was truly lacking. I think serving customers is a chore at Mon Roll House. No greeting or smile. Using a restaurant.com coupon seemed to make our service even worse! The waiter lectured us about presenting the coupon *before* ordering although it doesn't say that on the coupon! He also asked if we wanted change from the $50 bill. We did because he was the "dude with the 'tude" and also because he'd already added a 18% tip on the bill. The waiter did these weird passive/aggressive moves like delivering our dishes just out of arm's reach, like we were at some drive-thru. Even as we took a box to go he didn't give it to us, but left it on the side. It was plain weird. We were ready to leave, so being rushed out at 930pm (30mins before closing) as the restaurant lights are turned off wasn't so much of an issue. Just the nail in the coffin. As for the food, there are so many rolls here you get lost for choice. Our Sexy Girl roll was good, although could do with some more subtle flavors. Too much jalapeno (that's not common in Japanese food.) The Amazing Kiss roll is what most folks like on Yelp and it was worth the good words. Blossom was fair. But, the food can not save the poor rating for "service with an attitude." In summary, what started out to be a sushi treat turned out to be not a great night. I won't be recommending this place, nor returning. If it was actually run by Japanese may be my dining experience would've been more convivial. read more

food was great - - $7 happy hour cut rolls (from a selection of ~8), most rolls are regularly ~$10 - 50% off nigiri (except sweet shrimp and uni) regularly priced around $5 - $2 sapporo - happy hour is dine-in only service was non-existent. the place seats MAYBE 18, there were only 2 other tables of 2 there in addition to my table of 3. i ordered 3 rolls, the 1st took 20min, the 2nd came out 5 min later, and 30min later when I asked for the check she asked my if I wanted the 3rd roll. her lack of english resulted in a lot of head nodding and shaking.... they hadn't even started to make my 3rd roll. i tell her to cancel, the spllt check comes out 15min later (no exaggeration) bc she had issues splitting. this is after earlier, when we had each written down what was ordered on 3 diff pieces of paper to help her out. the check did not give happy hour nigiri prices. we send the checks back, she comes back sincerely apologizing with fixed ones. but at this point i don't care bc im annoyed out of my brains that quick happy hour sushi stop has turned into 1.5hrs. Maybe sitting at the sushi bar is faster, but this girl sucks at her job. she needs to learn how to: refill water/check the bill before you give it to the customer/follow up on orders with the kitchen/learn the nigiri names. shes usually hiding behind the computer in the back end of the place instead of checking in with tables. that being said, she is perfectly nice when you do get the chance to interact with her. Food was tasty, portions were filling, and prices were so reasonable -especially for being part of the 3rd st tourist experience. I wouldn't come back unless its for happy hour prices, and only if i'm in the mood to deal with handicapped-snail's pace food... aka while not being really hungry and drinking tons of beer to pass the time in between. To be completely upfront - not authentic. BUT the rolls are pretty great for the price. We ordered a huge sashimi platter as well and in my honest opinion, save your money for a high quality focused sushi joint. Stick to rolls and whatnot here. We had the Tsunami Caliente which was good. Not spicy at all to me but i have a higher threshold than some. Overall i liked the flavors minus the carrot. Super California - california roll with avo and eel on top. This was my fave. The eel was cooked really well and complimented the roll. Maui maui - NOT my fave. The pineapple was really bizarre. We took it off and the roll tasted much better. It was chives in it too which was a bit bizarre but didnt bother me. We also has a Lazy Tiger (i think) and it had shrimp on top. All of the rolls were 6.99 under their 3-7pm happy hour. I believe its a daily deal as we went on a Saturday. Overall service was great and food was good for the price. read more

When you choose a place based on restaurant.com, you're going to either get someplace awesome that is trying to drum up more customers or someplace horrible that is a complete waste of time. When Orbitz gave us a bunch of gift certificates for booking flights through them, we chose wisely--and got a winner with Roll House Sushi! The challenge: 1) Order at least $45 worth of sushi so that our gift certificate (for $25) was able to be utilized (as per the requirements of the gift certificate). 2) Not completely overeat (aka be able to walk, not roll down the Santa Monica Pier) Success! We got edamame, a Japanese soda pop, some inari, and about 4 rolls...The sushi was amazing--very complex rolls with complementing tastes. Avoid the bathroom, it is a tiny room (tiny tiny) with just a toilet behind the dishwashing station. There was a problem with our bill...we think that the girl charged us for an extra specialty roll...making the total jump at least $15. There were multiple factors involved in us not contesting the bill including out 'we-are-so-full-get-us-outside-walking-to-burn-off-this-feeling' mentality. There wasn't a beer/wine/drinks section on the menu, so we didn't order any, but later observed a small group adjacent to us ordering sake bombers. The place is s-m-a-l-l, but not crowded. read more
