    Hot and cold lobster rolls
    Claudia E.

We had a great meal here! My husband and I came to start our vacation here seeing this had excellent reviews, the kind of food we're looking for, and views to die for. We couldn't go anywhere else! I needed a lobster roll, and a lobster roll I got, opting for the hot one, my husband getting the cold. We also got the crab cake, stuffed quahog, and clam cake appetizers. I loved my lobster roll, the crab cake didn't do it for me, the stuffed quahog was interesting in a good way, and the clam cakes were awesome, like clammy hush puppies. We came before the dinner rush so our wait wasn't too long, and the food came out quickly. The staff we interacted with was all awesome. The line got really long though after we finished our meal. Saving the best for last... the view!! Stunning! We loved the al fresco dining as the sun was setting. Great spot!

I went here today. Parking can be hard but we got lucky finding a spot pretty close on the seawall. The line was not that long when we arrived. It was longer as we are. I ordered the fish Reuben and my friend got the Caribbean fish sandwich. We also got an order of fries. All of it was great. After you order at window you go find a seat on the patio. We found a table no problem. There is additional seating in the back past the bar. I also got a frozen rose at the bar which was refreshing and great. We had a great meal here with the beautiful water view. After our meal we walked the sea wall which was perfect.

Great lobster roll ! You order at the window and eat outside with a view of the ocean. Tables were turning over pretty quickly but you definitely had to snag one while you could. The waitress was clearing them off, but couldn't always keep up. The lobster meat was so fresh and tasty and the price was not bad compared to others around.

Monahan's is super hyped up in the area, so I had to give it a go. There are always lines that move somewhat quickly so go maybe not at peak hours. Honestly, the food is extremely average and instead the vibe, service, and prices are the draw. The lobster roll is one of the cheapest ones in the area, and it is worth it for the price but honestly just so-so. The fish and chips were huge with fantastic fries, but the fish was also very so-so. Other folks tried their tacos and shrimp etc and also found them pretty average. Now the vibe though was great. Give it a try if you're visiting Narragansett; take in the breeze and grab a drink but don't expect the best seafood.

Don't let the line fool you. Yes, the wait can be long, but it is 100% worth it. You're not going to find better clam cakes, chowder, lobster rolls, or tuna tacos anywhere. If the line is all the way to the fire hydrant, you're probably looking at about a 45 minute to an hour wait, but honestly it goes by faster than you think. The best part is they have a bar out back where you can grab a drink or two while you wait. Their bartender, Stacy, is an absolute delight and keeps everyone smiling while they're hungry and waiting. Sometimes they even hand out free samples of their delicious frozen frosé! Last night we waited about 45 minutes, had a couple frozen frosés, then ordered the clam cakes, chowder, and tuna tacos, and everything was fantastic. They also have an ice cream shop in the back and sell some really fun merch. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and welcoming, even with how incredibly busy they are. If you're visiting Narragansett, Monahan's is an absolute must. It's one of those places that's worth the wait every single time.

I went for lunch last weekend while spending the afternoon at the beach. Really well made food: everything was very fresh, and the fish wasn't an afterthought to the bread crumbs. Excellent ahi tuna tacos: very filling. There's also ice cream but we didn't try that. Lots of shaded seating outside.

After spending most of our vacation eating in fancy restaurants, I finally put my foot down and told my husband I needed something more relaxed. We wandered outside looking for food and stumbled across Monahan's Clam Shack. The line was incredibly long, so we headed back to our room and placed a to go order instead. Even from the outside, the laid back atmosphere and unbeatable ocean view made it easy to see why it's so popular. We ordered the lobster rolls, stuffed quahogs, clam chowder, and coconut shrimp. The standout was definitely the stuffed quahogs, they were absolutely packed with flavor and easily the best part of the meal. The lobster rolls were very generously portioned, which was appreciated, but overall the rest of the food was a bit on the bland side for our taste. The staff was friendly and fun, and the portions were great. If you've spent all day at the beach and want a casual meal with an incredible view of the waves, this is a great spot. It's not fine dining, nor does it try to be, but it's a fun, relaxed place to enjoy a hearty seafood meal.

Local seafood gem located right on the water. Small establishment with outdoor seating and an outdoor bar. Very popular. Had to wait in line for about 30 minutes just to put in my order. We tried the clam chowder, clam cakes, hot lobster roll (they also sell a cold version which is more classic for RI), and fish sandwich. The food was tasty but be aware that almost all the seafood here comes fried. The lobster roll was good but I personally prefer Connecticut style. Overall, it's a nice place to get local seafood and relax by the beach.

My wife and I both love clam cakes and Rhode Island (clear) chowder so on the first opportunity on our recent vacation I directed our luncheon appetites to Monahan's which I understand has been operating at this location since the late 1940's. We each ordered a combo which includes 3 clam cakes and chowdah (yes, I am originally from Rhody) at the window and were told to find a table under the umbrellas. Our chowder proved to be very good with potatoes and bits of clam. We were not as happy with the clam cakes which admittedly were very large and served hot, but lacked much, if any, in the way of either pieces of clam or flavor. Neither of us chose to finish our respective clam cakes so we will not be joining the crowd at Monahan's on future trips to Rhody.

Came here on a Thursday around 11 am. We were able to get a parking spot by the water. This is a lovely little shack that is a great time on a beautiful day. The menu has a variety of seafood options all priced very well. We ordered the Maryland crab cake appetizer, tuna tacos, and swordfish tacos. We loved everything. The crab cakes were delicious. A lot of crab meat inside! The tacos were also so good. Fish tasted fresh and had great sauces and toppings to go with them. Prices good for tacos ~$14. We sat out along the water and it was beautiful. Once we ordered they brought our food out to us which was very nice. Would definitely recommend this place!

Enjoyed the food and service so much here. It was the first food stop on our trip to Narragansett and the first lobster roll of the week. It rained while we were there and the staff made it so fun to sit under the awning and enjoy the evening! The beers, clam chowder and lobster rolls were

The food was pretty good and there's only outdoor seating. Pricing was slightly high for the portion size. The tuna taco was overcooked and I ordered the sweet and spicy scallop roll but it was neither sweet nor spicy.

Cold Lobster Roll, RI Calamari with peppers, & Fish Reuben Sandwich

Monahan's is a summer must multiple times!! We really enjoy the cold lobster rolls here. They have chunks of lobster and just the right amount of mayo. We also love the calamari. It is so tender. Some places it tastes too chewy but not here!! The fish Reuben is always a favorite to get also. The line is long and it's hard to find parking but it's all worth it when you take that first bite of your lobster roll while overlooking the beautiful ocean. You will not regret eating at Monahans!!

Amazing, I've had a bunch this year and this remains my fav. Hot !

Ask the Community - Monahan's Clam Shack

What is the difference between red, white, and clear clam chowder?

All clam chowders start as a clear broth. You would add tomatoes to make if a red chowder or cream to make it white.

Adam waited on us at the inside bar and provided phenomenal service. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to his guests are a tremendous asset to your establishment. I would be remiss if I did not also recognize Eve, Casey, Paige, Al, Jordan, Dan, and Jeff. You have an incredible service team that is second to none. We have spent time at both the restaurant and the Tiki Bar, and most recently we had the pleasure of being served by Gina, who was also exceptional. As a former employment recruiter, I can honestly say that I would be trying to recruit this incredible staff myself! They are dedicated, positive, hospitable, and take tremendous pride in both their professional and personal service. They consistently perform under maximum stress with efficiency, professionalism, and a smile. I understand there is currently a contest on Yelp, and we would like to nominate Adam. He embodies everything you could want in a member of your waitstaff: spirit, dedication, knowledge, enthusiasm, and genuine devotion to providing an outstanding guest experience. He has a wonderful ability to make guests feel as though they are not only being well cared for, but that he is genuinely enjoying his job as well. Choosing one person was extremely difficult because your entire team deserves recognition. However, Adam stood out as a phenomenal leader, and that is why we are choosing him for our nomination. I would gladly hire or recommend any one of these fine young men and women. They are truly exceptional representatives of George's. We wish those who are moving on to college or graduate school all the best in their future endeavors. We will certainly continue to frequent George's, as we have for many years, and look forward to seeing this wonderful team whenever we visit. I also loved the smoked salmon on toast and the small cups of really tasty clam chowder. All the appetizers were incredibly delicious although I would say the lobster grilled cheese was the biggest hit. All of the staff were polite and friendly. After the appetizer round, the lobster rolls came out and they were simply spectacular. They were true New England lobster rolls on toasted square edged (this is key) frankfurter buns, and absolutely stuffed with chunks of delicious lobster meat that had been lightly dressed with mayo. Those rolls were out of this world, deliciously prepared and very generously filled with sweet lobster meat. They also served fabulous fish tacos. For the non-seafood eaters of which there were none at this party, they served a pulled pork taco which was spicy and delicious. The portions were generous and the food just kept on coming out. While there was plenty of additional food at this party from other vendors as well as some homemade additions, Shuckin' Truck was my favorite part of the overall feast. Great job!
