Easily one of the best diners in Elmer, NJ! Whenever I visit NJ, I like to have at least one meal at a diner. Not one of those silly chain diners like Silver Diner, but an authentic place with authentic food. The Elmer Diner is one of those places. It ticked all the Diner boxes. It offers everything from huge portions of tasty foods and friendly service to menus the size of Russian novels and placemats that advertise local businesses. I decided to go simple and ordered a BLT. Even that came with soup and fries. The sandwich was perfectly made with plenty of bacon. The fries were crispy, and the soup was delicious. My only suggestion was about the soup choice. They offer a rotating selection of five or six soups, included. They also offer their French Onion soup for an additional $3. I met my daughter here after her job interview and it was really good ! Our server was wonderful. My daughter ordered a black and blue burger which was cooked perfectly and I had a lamb gyro both came with soup and fries. The food was delicious and portions generous. I would def recommend. If I could give you no stars I would. We ordered chip beef and gravy over fried potatoes. It was very good,but the fried shrimp? It was beyond fried. The shrimp was hard, burnt and of course couldn't eat it. I called the diner and they wanted me to come to the diner for another dinner. Well I'm visiting from out of town and my sister can't drive. Door Dash delivered it, why couldn't they bring me another? So the dogs or the cats didn't want it we threw it in the trash. Then they told my daughter called them. She was on a cruise out in the middle of nowhere called and the diner told her to take a picture of it. They knew that stuff was bad so why take a picture? Cute diner along Route 40. Stopped in one late evening in early March with my husband. The menu is enormous as to be expected from a diner and the service was very friendly. My husband got the Cesar Salad with grilled chicken and it was enormous. I got the grilled chicken and pesto panini. Our entrees were sufficient but the star of the entire weal was our soup that came with the meal. I had the butternut squash soup and he had the split pea soup. Traveling through and stopped at this cute diner. The waitress brought us the wrong drinks without correcting the error. My husband got fish and chips. Only ate some. The Cole slaw was so bland. I ordered crusted chicken parm with angel hair pasta. The Alfredo sauce was so bland and nasty. Couldn't eat it. The chicken was good. The canned pudding was good. The homefries I ask for onions, well done crispy my scrambled eggs done soft and I get a serving of their really good Italian hot sausage with rye toast. It ALWAYS is perfect. The coffee is excellent too. I have also had lunch and dinners here too. Everything I've ever had at the Elmer diner has been really good. The service is excellent, fast and very friendly. The booths and counters are clean and comfortable. The restrooms are always very clean too. Parking is easy and there's cheap gas right next door at the light. My wife got a pork roll and cheese/egg sandwich that she said was delicious (and it was BIG). She boxed half, along with one of the two hash browns that came with it -also tasty, she said. I ordered the "build your own" omelet, choosing (you get three) mushrooms, ham, and cheddar. Perfectly cooked - and big. Home fries were crispy in spots but not overcooked. Boxed some of mine also. Coffees were good. Our server, who we'd had before, Vicki, was excellent, checking back often (without overdoing it) to make sure we were satisfied. Went there for lunch with. My Aunt because she had a procedure at the local hospital and the staff recommended lunch at the diner . The place seemed clean and staff friendly so we were seated immediately . A couple got up and left from the booth next to us . A gentleman came , brushed the food crumbs on the floor . Did not clean the table and place a placemat that feel on the floor on that table . Food : First off , the menu is as thick as a bible . Not all of that can be fresh . Stopped coming here quite a few years back. Had some rough meals. I THINK its a new owner. Setting is your typical NJ diner. Being in Elmer the clientele is interesting. Just some good ol' S Jersey country folk I got the Honey Dipped chicken. The pieces were very small. I couldn't tell what was the wing and what was the drumstick. It was plated on a regular size plate with small pieces if lettuce or something scattered as a garnish. Looked ridiculous. My little wing was dry but the rest was delicious. My crab soup was very good for a diner and had real crabmeat. Coleslaw had too much mayo and my corn was pale and mushy but I was full anyway. My wife got the chicken bruschetta special. I ordered the classic cheesesteak, Boston clam chowder, and ice cream . My dad got the chicken grinder lunch special with sweet potato fries, the crab soup, and bread pudding. My dad is still talking about that lunch! He loved it. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had. I would definitely order those again with any meal! My dad's soup was a little thick for me. I didn't taste his grinder but he said it was good. I ordered my sandwich with extra lettuce and had to ask for more; it came right away. I only was able to eat half and ate the other half later. Ordered a BLT club with mayo. Husband Ordered a chicken parm sandwich. My BLT had turkey on it and no mayo. Questioned the waitress and the said it says on the menu it has turkey. No it doesn't. I ordered the BLT club not the turkey and bacon. Whatever. Sandwich was horrible. Took the turkey off and ate a toast sandwich with lettuce and a few specks of bacon. Husband's chicken parm sandwich had so much black on the roll from it being toasted. Fries were nasty. That will be the last time I ever go there! Service and food was horrible! We are a local family who has been patronizing the Elmer Diner for many years. Lately, both the food and the service have been adequate at best. Tonight, we ordered 3 meals, including 1 Greek salad. The salad was supposed to come with anchovies as well as chicken that we paid extra for. It came with neither, so we decided to give a call and let them know how that they had accidentally left it off, however once a sentence was spoken, the person on the other end hung up on us.
