This Mongolian spot feels heaven sent! I have been thinking, praying, and dreaming about the Mongolian barbecue place from my hometown that always felt impossible to compare to, and I kept hoping something even remotely close would open nearby. This place absolutely blew me away! The service was amazing. They were fast, efficient, and organized. I genuinely felt like I had discovered a hidden gem because there were not many people in line when I went. You start by choosing your bowl size and packing it full. Then you choose your meats they had beef, beef belly, chicken, and pork. After that, you load up on vegetables and any other toppings you want. Next you create your custom sauce blend. Out of pure excitement, I told them to add them all, and I have zero regrets because the flavor turned out phenomenal. The noodles are added afterward onto the grill in a separate bowl. At that point, you hand over your loaded bowl and they grill everything together fresh in front of you. That is when the magic happens...I eagerly awaited my bowl, and somehow it was even better than I imagined. Every bite was flavorful, savory, and satisfying. On the side, they have a cart with extra additions like soy sauce, sesame seeds, and other condiments. I would love this place even more if they added sriracha, since that is something I have gotten accustomed to seeing at most Mongolian barbecue spots, but even without it, the flavor overall was amazing. Located inside of Serramonte Mall. My family is big on noodles so this is perfect for us. You pay first, they hand you a bowl and you get to freely stack items in your bowl. As long as it fits it the bowl, it counts. I didn't think the portion was going to be that big but even for a regular bowl, once they added noodles it was plenty for 2, maybe 3 people. They do have sauces at the end that you add to the bowl but I wish they would add it during cooking. Once you're done adding items & sauces, they'll take your bowl and dump it onto the cooktop. They add water to the food to steam and cook the veggies. Then they add the noodles & add more water to soften the noodles. This is why I wish adding the sauces could wait until the cooking process. I feel like the flavors get watered down and by the time I get my food, I still add teriyaki sauce & soy sauce to add flavor. Overall, not too bad. I will probably go again because like I said my family loves noodles and the portion is a good size. This place is a hidden gem at Serramonte Food court. Out of all the options, I think you get the best bang for your buck here. You pay between $15-$18 to customize your own noodle or rice bowl on the Mongolian grill. There are about 5 different meat options to choose from with many different vegetables. I would recommend stuffing the bowl as much as you can because everything in it gets put on the grill regardless. Because of this, the portion size is generous, capable of feeding two people or having leftovers for one person over the course of 2 days. Once you get your food, there is a sauce station to the side. I think this is VITAL as most of the sauce you select for your bowl will end up being at the bottom of your container. Since all of the options are based on your choices, the flavor will be based on what you pick. I recommend adding the long red peppers to add spice and flavor to the dish. I noticed the difference in taste between the first time and the second time I got a similar combination without it. The line moves pretty quick and the staff are pretty cool about how much you can add to your bowl. If you're getting food from the food court, this place shines bright and doesn't hurt your wallet for what you're getting. I'll choose this place every time hands down. read more

You can add as much as you want and the employees even encouraged me to add more! Towards the end, you select which sauces you want to add and I basically got a scoop of every sauce. Despite that, I still felt like I couldn't taste much of the sauces once everything was cooked. There's also another small sauce bar with chili paste, soy sauce, and teriyaki sauce. This brings me back such great nostalgia because if you've ever had Great Khan's Mongolian BBQ before, this is practically an upgraded version of that!! I practically grew up with Great Khans because you definitely got your money's worth back then. Fun fact - the owner of MongQ was actually one of the founders of Great Khan's, and I'm so glad he decided to open up a location in Serramonte! MongQ is located at Serramonte Mall and is tuck next door to Tokyo Grill and Panda Express. If you haven't been to Great Khan's before, basically you choose which size bowl you want. The options are: 1. Regular - $15.95 2. Large - $18.95 **these are subject to change over time + you can also add mozzarella cheese to your bowl for $2.50 + rice is $2 After you choose the size of your bowl, you basically load it up with what you want. The have a whole variety of meats, vegetables, sauces - you name it. MEAT OPTIONS - Brisket, Beef, Pork and Chicken (these come in shabu slices, so they are thinn) VEGGIES/SIDES - bean sprouts, lettuce, onions, cilantro, carrots, zucchini, jalapenos, tofu, hot links, tomato, green onion, pineapples, bamboo shoot, water chestnuts, etc. They have a whole ton of stuff you can add to your bowl. SAUCES/ADDITIVES - garlic, lemon juice, oyster lobster sauce, chili oil, etc. I don't remember all of them, but the owner did walk us through if we wanted all of them added. My husband and I decided to order a large bowl and split it last night since we were pretty hungry. Our total came out to $20 before tip, and we started loading our bowl ASAP. We got a variety of meats and veggies for our meal + all of the sauces available. Once we were done, someone will take your bowl and start cooking up everything for you. With Great Khan's, yo were able to load up your bowl with noodles. However with MongQ, they will portion and add the noodles for you after. Everything was practically done within 5-10 minutes, and you can also load up on sauces, crunchy onions, etc. at the end + leave a tip (cash) for the workers! I will say that this was a great update + upgrade from Great Khans! You can taste the quality shift, especially with having brisket as an option. I really loved the sauces they offered and the variety of veggies, meats, and sides they have. It was definitely pure nostalgia after the first bite (plus I was really hungry). Food itself tastes alright. But I ended up throwing away 2/3 of the portion due to excessive amount of blackened charred participles that are unhealthy if consumed. The fryer/griller should do their due diligence to monitor how much charred particles have accumulated on the grill and clean it as often as necessary but they definitely did not do that in my case. I felt that time was wasted, food was wasted, money was wasted and more importantly, it's just unhealthy to be eating this amount of blackened stuff. Okay it's not THAT good as some of the other reviewers are raving about but it's a good option for mall food court choices. To me, this tastes very close to Panda Express or teriyaki chow mein. You have 4 meat options and they're: beef brisket, beef chuck, pork belly, pork loin. They're all shaved very thin and slightly frozen. I would recommend getting the large bowl for $16.99 and the regular is pretty small. Considering that the meat is frozen in round rolls, they take up a lot of space when you try to fill up your bowl. You'll want to make sure you pile your bowl up strategically and definitely fill it up to the max -- trust me, once they throw it on the griddle, all the meat will flatten and seemingly disappear so unless you wanna eat mostly noodles, you'll take my advice. I also added just a little onions, cilantro and mushrooms for flavoring. They will add garlic and all the sauces you need. I can tell they used a lot of msg as seasoning because I was quite thirsty for the entire day afterwards. Service was pretty standard. Wait is fairly quick. Each bowl takes a couple of minutes max to cook. I had a lot of noodles leftover to take home.
