Went to Mongo for the first time last night - i've been to Mongolian BBQ's all around Texas and Ireland, and this was the best one I've been to yet. The portion sizes aren't the biggest due to their somewhat limiting bowl sizes for putting the veggies and meats into - but they do have an option for $14.99 for unlimited bowls if you're really hungry. The taste of the food of course is up to your choices for veggies, meats, seasonings, and sauces - but I found the spicy garlic to be quite good. If you're ever in S. Went in after passing by a few times and getting a coupon. The person who showed us our table was friendly, but our server was not and never came to check on us. We were not given any instruction as each place can vary. The selection of veggies was small but had everything I would add. There were some flies throughout the place. I have to say that while I am a semi-regular to this establishment (and slightly biased, yet again), I do quite enjoy some of the food here, but even more so the excellent happy hour prices they offer (which is what I am mostly reviewing today). Let's begin shall we? Atmosphere: It has that typical modern look that most asian-style restaurants share, big dining area straight down the middle but separated enough to where you and your party are in a comfortable space. They have booth on adjacent side as well if you are not comfortable with the main dining area. Service: Again, pretty typical service depending on where you sit, but either way pretty average as well. If you're a regular they'll obviously know you and be more accommodating, although that shouldn't matter when it comes to customer service, which to my knowledge they stay on top of. Food: The food they prepare here if you choose the bowl of noodle/rice option is totally up to you to decide, you get to choose your meats, veggies and spices/sauces to what you're favoring and the chefs take care of the rest. I would say the food in general is slightly above average regardless of what combination of ingredients you choose, but I've never had a problem with their food before. If you choose something off their menu, it again is something that is slightly average, but nothing to brag home about either. If anything, my favorite food items I get at Mongo is their sushi options and their appetizers, which is leading to my next point. Drinks and Happy Hour: When it comes to Happy Hour (in general), this place has most restaurants beat in Pearland. As advertised through their bar menu, they have Happy Hour all day, every day. Drafts are $2.50, Wells $3.00, Large Hot Sake $4.50, and they're appetizers range from $2.50-ish to $6.00 as well. While their selection may not be all that expansive, they do have your typical beers on tap and a couple of imported bottles for the advertised price (which is more than decent). All of their Apps and Sushi I've had are really good (to my tastes), and I can't argue with what I'm paying for them either. Their drinks are great and they can pretty much make whatever you want (if you're that guy who wants a drink that nobody has ever heard of). It is indeed always a happy hour in this neck of the woods. Conclusion: This may not rank up to the standards of some of my favorite restaurants, but I do believe merits go where they are due. It's not too overly loud, and I think you get the quality food for what you're paying for. It has a lot of neighboring competitors around it being in an outlet mall and all, but I feel it holds it's own just fine. If you're looking for authenticity then this place may not be what you're looking for, but this is a nice twist among-st all your typical cuisine you find in this area. If you'e re ever in the area, at the very least, Mongo's Happy Hour is worth the short visit (in my opinion). read more

The service was a little bit on the slow side for me, but that was probably because our waitress happened to be the bartender so that's probably why it took her a while to get back to our table. If you insist on not having a description of all your rolls, no problemo. But please train your waitstaff to sufficiently answer questions then. Watching my server run around for 5 minutes just to get the answer to "is the salmon raw or cooked?" in one roll is ridiculous. I was too afraid and hungry to even fathom asking another question. Ok, so the above portion was written when I was FAMISHED, and I'm now returning to finish this review. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was not that great anyways. I'm not sure if it's just our server or what. (And keep in mind, I'm now fully fed, and it's quite some time after, so no residual grudges) Server never came back to ask us how we were doing, I had an empty glass of water for the rest of the dinner. By the end, I had also drank my fiances water as well. Neither were refilled. We had to get the attention of another server to let ours know that we are done and would like the check. I'm sad, because I had high hopes for a mongolian bbq/sushi place in Pearland. I can expect shoddy service from a ghetto place in Chinatown, maybe. But this place actually looks really nice.... thought the service should match as well. And if you know me, I rarely complain about servers since I was in the food industry and understand how demanding (and stressful) it can be. Some things should just be standard though. Sushi selection is good and cheap. The stir fry section is questionable. The bowls you put your section of veggies and protein was not cleaned properly. You get the opportunity to build your entree just how you want it just as spicy/salty as your taste buds will allow. You choose between rice or noodles, whatever veggies you want, meat of your choice, plus seasons and sauce of your liking. Not gonna lie, I think they're trying to do "too much" here. They have "mongolian stir fry", sushi, mozzarella sticks, and wings advertised. I think they're trying to become an Asian inspired sports bar maybe ti draw customers in. Their happy hour is all day so I understand the draw to this place. Great location, but with the new Pearland ordinance to post health inspection grades this place got a C. Which I didn't notice until I was on my way out. The server/bartender was really nice but it took 5+ mins for her to actually come to me to get my order. Granted, I was at the end of the bar and the hostess was gracious enough to check up on me after I had been sitting there for a while. The bar is actually really small with about enough seating for 10 people and there was only 1 bartender tending the bar making drinks and servicing the guests there. I ordered some sushi from the happy hour menu and a lychee margarita. It was okay at best. The sushi is comparable to supermarket sushi but the marg was pretty good. If you want "good" sushi go someplace else. It's definitely not worth it. But the service wasn't bad, they're just understaffed. read more

If I could do 0 stars I would! Me & my 2 kids went in, and sat there for 20 minutes no one ever came to our table to great us, take a drink order or anything. I got up and asked about our server & was told she was coming we sat there another 15 minutes nothing. I went here for lunch/dinner yesterday. It was past 3 so we got charged for dinner. Lesson learned is to avoid late lunches. Aside from that is was a pretty nice place. Good selection on produce and meats. My one issue was the sauces as I didn't really find any particular one that I cared for too much. I did like that they would let you mix and match meats and sauces, which I don't remember them letting you do at Genghis Grill. The big problem with a place like this is if your food turns out poorly you are partially to blame. It might be cooked well but tastes horrible and you picked all the ingredients, so you might suck. So I'll give this place four stars because I can't trash myself and it was nice. read more

I really enjoyed my meal at Mongo. I think the restaurant has a great combination of ambience and quality that is rare in restaurants in Pearland these days. Compared to other build your own bowl places I've been to, Mongo really hits it out of the box and I'm sure I will be back. I would say, it would be nice if there were additional topping options. I think there is a limited selection of vegetables, meats, and sauces and I think it would really be a better restaurant with more selection. I even think a alternating schedule of toppings could make Mongo's even more interesting. Surprisingly very good and not too salty even with the 2 scoops of sauce. Loved how they had the vegetable bowl and meat bowl separated. They also had fresh ingredients. My favorite veggies were the snow peas, tofu and shiitake mushrooms which absorbed the flavors well. For the meat, the scallops and the shrimp were good. Since I have not yet tried the food items, I had to give it a higher review. This review is solely based on their "milk teas". Milk teas tasted as if they consisted of 95% water, and 5% milk. Where in the world was the tea?? We bought 3 milk teas, and all three bland. In addition, our 30 minute wait for our simple drinks was not acceptable. Food is fresh, and delicious. (Reminds me of Genghis Grill.) Sushi is great. With the grandkids in mind, ordered fried Mongolian chicken (was super hard, like it had been left in the fryer or reheated, for too long), regular french fries, sweet potato fries and chicken nuggets (nothing special, just your standard frozen foods variety, and that's fine). What I like about this location is they offer three designated spots on the side of the restaurant where you can park and go in really fast to pick up your order.
