AMBIANCE: Everybody loves the monkey pod and their Mai Tai. Located on the second floor,You'll be greeted by a host outside and then if you're lucky like us, you'll be sent to the host inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is a very casual comfortable wooden atmosphere with seating outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a local live Hawaiian music duo at the front door as you walk in setting the mood.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] SERVICE: with no reservations, we were seated right away FOOD: our group ordered the Margherita, pizza, fish and chips,Jawaiaan jerked chicken, Keiki swordfish and the macadamia nut crusted fresh fish. everything was exceptional except for the jerk chicken. It was a little too spicy and dry for my palate so I switched plates with my son who had the macadamia nut crusted fish and he agreed. Lastly, the MaiTais group opinion was that they were just OK. nothing to write home about[[HIGHLIGHT]] and if it wasn't for the a/c vent above me that kept dripping on my Hawaiian shirt, it would've been a perfect di[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]nner. But Everybody loves the monkey Pod!

On our first night in Maui, after our flight landed a little too early for us to check into our hotel, we made our way to Monkeypod Kitchen for happy hour (3:30-5 PM). We were promptly seated, and our server was extremely kind and attentive. We were very hungry, so we decided to order a little bit of everything. We started with an order of the cast-iron skillet shrimp, the Kahlúa pork pizza, and the Bulgogi tacos. I decided to try the blind tiger mocktail while my husband ordered a local beer. The shrimp were juicy and succulent, although I wish they had given us a few more. The Kahlúa pork pizza had a nice spice to it with the jalapeños, and the pork was so juicy and tender. But the winner for us was definitely the Bulgogi tacos. We both could have easily eaten an entire order on our own. To wrap up our meal, we couldn't pass on their infamous cream pies, so we decided to try the banana cream pie for there, and we took a slice of the coconut cream pie to-go. Both pies were absolutely delicious, but I think the banana cream pie slightly edged out the coconut cream pie for me. If you find yourself in Maui and looking for a delicious bite to eat, I would highly recommend Monkeypod Kitchen. Be sure to make a reservation if you aren't feeling in the laid-back, aloha spirit.

Came here one night for an early dinner and we were not disappointing. Beautifully inside area and some nice outside seating with some views of the ocean. We had a couple of Mai Tais and their version of an espresso martini. Both amazing. Mai tai one of the best. We shared fries and a fish sandwich which was made with swordfish. The swordfish was great. For dessert get the banana cream pie. OMG. Ate it so quickly didn't get a chance to take a picture. Oh and have to mentioned the exceptional service from our server Kristina. So pleasant, friendly and attentive.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice restaurant and had both indoor and outdoor seating![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They had a good mai tai and pina colada drinks here that had a good strength to them! We started with their special potstickers which was very good! I got the fish and chips which was very good and the fries were well done and had good seasoning! The family got the bulgogi pork tacos, jerk chicken, and the kalua pork pizza. The jet chicken was a huge portion of chicken that could definitely be shared. Great dinner spot that had good food altogether!

We were so looking forward to our return visit to Monkeypod Kitchen after a great experience on a previous trip to Maui. We eagerly booked our first dinner reservation of the trip there, but unfortunately, the meal was a major disappointment. Both pizzas we ordered came out incredibly charred--to the point we questioned why the kitchen would even send them out. I am kicking myself for not sending them back, but we had a late 9:00 PM reservation, and by that point, we were exhausted and just wanted to head back to our hotel. Additionally, my fish tacos were lukewarm at best, and the Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Fish my son ordered for $54 was so tiny it felt like a complete rip-off. Even the side order of garlic fries we ordered was overcooked Definitely a miss for us this time around.

We've tried many restaurants in Maui this week and MonkeyPod has hands down been both the best tasting and highest quality food we've had. Everything is so fresh and delicious I would eat here every day if we could. You can't go wrong with the house Mai Thai + cheeseburger with fresh fries. The fresh caught fish tacos are some of the best I've ever had. Just delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance and service has also been incredible![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Would recommend sitting outside with the beautiful view of the mountains.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 1000/10!

We had an outstanding experience from start to finish. We walked right in and sat at the bar, where Breanne took excellent care of us as both our bartender and server. She was attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. I ordered the ahi poke tacos and the bulgogi pork tacos. The bulgogi ones were a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and spicy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was my third Monkeypod location and they continue to deliver on every level, consistent food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're visiting Wailea, this is a must.

Worth the hype, and their happy hour is elite. The mai tai is a MUST. Even if you're not a fan, this one is in a league of its own. So just do it. We ended up splitting all the appetizers for our meal at our table which was perfect, The poke tacos, pork & pineapple pizza, and garlic truffle fries were our standouts for sure. So yummy, service was so good, we were so satisfied.

We visited Merriman during our last visit to Maui, so this time we decided to check out their sister restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen. The vibe is definitely more trendy and casual in comparison to its counterpart, with a vast menu of Hawaiian inspired/fusion dishes. We decided to try the: - Taro Ravioli - Waipoli Farm Organic Mixed Greens Salad - Organic Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi - Lilikoi Foam Mai Tai (Original & NA Versions) The taro ravioli was the star of the meal with its unique flavor, followed by the freshness of the Mahi Mahi. They also knew we were sharing, so they conveniently split the Mahi Mahi for us in advance. You also can't go wrong with the infamous Mai Tais - the Lilikoi foam is -chef's kiss-! I highly recommend making reservations prior to visiting, as the restaurant does get pretty busy. Our server was also so kind and surprised us with complimentary champagne (original & NA) for our babymoon, making our visit that much sweeter.

Enjoyed a nice meal tonight. Rachel was our server and she did a good job with recommendations and service. Food was very good and we all liked our meals. The Mai Tai were very good good with a different taste of not on the sweet side. Jerk chicken was flavorful as was the steaks. Deserts were a reminder of the way our mom would make these pies. They had some live music going on.

mai tai ($20) - it is giving tropical and fruity with notes of lime, orange, and pineapple - the lilikoi foam was quite unique, blends perfectly with the rum - would get again; solid drink rating: 4/5 - [[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance is lively and family friendly[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - came here only for the drinks and would do it again because it was yummy - [[HIGHLIGHT]]wouldn't come here for a date since it's quite loud and lights weren't dim enough but that's a given since it's more of a restaurant rather than bar[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - friendly and attentive service; wouldn't have known to mix my drink well before sippin aheehee IG: @nom.noms.only

They get really crowded so make sure you make a reservation! Super fun casual vibes and great food options. My friends and I opted for more shareable food so we went with the pizza and fish & chips which were really good. Definitely recommend the lobster pizza! They're known for their mai tais so even though I'm unfamiliar with them, I still have to say it was really enjoyable!

Ask the Community - Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman

Do they have an open seating option at the bar?

As far as I remember- Yes

Is there an elevator to get upstairs?

    Yes, there is.

Is this place good for families with children?

    Yes, very family friendly.

Is the menu the same on Sunday for lunch?

    Yes.

    Are there walk ins?

Yes, you might have to wait but actually got in on a Friday night.

    Do you need a reservation?

They don't take reservations. It is first come first serve. We went during happy hour and had no problem getting a table. I would suggest going between four and 430 for an early dinner.

What's the difference between this place and the other Monkey Pod kitchen in Ka'anapali?

Is happy hour menu available in bar or in general seating? Can we bring kids during happy hour?

Our experience has been that HH menu is available in both bar and general seating. My kids were with us each time.

What vegan options do they have?

I do not know, can you look on their website.

Should we make reservations or are they only taking walk-ins?

You cannot make a reservation. You stand in line to put your name in, they add you to a list, and then you have 10 mins after they text you to arrive back at the restaurant. We went across the street to have drinks at the happy hour.

If you arrive around 4:00 do you feel like you can grab a seat?

They don't have seating. It's all take out.

Which brand of rum do you use in your mai tai?

The menu says Kula Organic Rums.

Do they allow dogs for outdoor dining?

    No.

What are the hours for happy hour at Wailea location?

    3pm to 5pm, daily! 😊

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes, there are several items that are gluten-free. Tacos are served with corn tortillas but ask and confirm to be safe. All their salads too but I always ask to make sure. Great mixed drinks too! No reservations yet but if you walk in the wait…

What's there new menu look like?

Their menu at their Wailea location s very limited. As of now, they don't provide the same menu items that are listed on their site. I haven't visited the MPK in Kaanapali yet. I am hoping they will expand their menu soon! The food is OK, but I…

What's the difference in terms of food and ambiance btw Monkey Pod by Merriman and Monkey Pod Kitchen? Aloha Nui to you!

They both offer amazing food.Merriman's is more fine dinning with an amazing view .monkey pod is a bit more laid back as fare as dress and ambiance we love both places but Monkey pod is our entire families favorite we have kids ranging from 17yrs…

Is Monkeypod open to dine in?

    Yup

Is happy hour limited to the bar area or is it throughout the restaurant?

Happy hour is throughout the restaurant including food like pizzas and the listed pupus.

    Not long

6.22.26 UPDATE We…read moreoriginally had a disappointing experience due to slow service, limited attention from staff, and the lack of air conditioning during our visit. However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.

I started out with the Tchin Tchin cocktail, amazing delicate flavor, not too sweet. I then had to try their seared Ahi on the rock appetizer where they bring you a piping hot rock and fresh Aji you cook the Aji on the rock yourself and it comes with three different incredible dipping sauces. Then I had the lobster tempura dish for my main meal combined with grilled monchong. This is one of the best dishes I think I've ever had in my life. The fish was so light and buttery and juicy and flaky, and the lobster cooked to perfection, and I was very skeptical because were breading this lobster and tempura and there's such a risk of over cooking and that did not happen here I was super super pleased. I saw the Sunday Brunch deal on my Facebook with a Free Pool Pass for the month of June! We couldn't pass that up. Because we went on the very last Sunday in June, it was real busy with visitors staying at the hotel and locals alike taking advantage of this Summer deal so we expected it. We got maybe 2-3 plates each. My cousin took advantage of the proteins first. He went straight to get the Ko Rosemary Crusted Prime Rib with the Horseradish and Au Jus which was delicious and our top favorite. He wasn't a big fan of the Mochiko Chicken, he said it was a bit dry. I started off with the selection of appetizers like the Ulu & Potato Mac Salad, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Waipoli Baby Greens with Papaya Seed Dressing and Poi! I loved it all. I was pretty naive and put the scrambled eggs and Braised Short Ribs on my plate but didn't realize it was a Loco Moco station lol! That was a fail but the Braised Short Ribs was so tender and is a must if you go. Make sure you make yourself a Loco Moco lol! Other favorites was the Lavender Honey Crispy Shrimp (because there was so many people I got the bottom of the bowl but they refilled it right after), Pork Shumai with Mustard Sauce, and Longanisa (Filipino Sausage with Garlic and Vinegar) with Onions. My coworker told me his stomach got upset from the Ahi a few months ago so I kinda stayed away from the Seared Ahi station (and I love ahi) except for the Vegetable and California Rolls and the Shumai. I took one Kimchee Shrimp just to try but the shrimp didn't taste the best sadly. I was also looking forward to the Pancakes station since I read there's Banana Pancakes and Chantilly Sauce! I do love me some Chantilly but it was mini Regular Pancakes with Strawberry, Lilikoi (Passion Fruit) Butter, and Syrup. I was a bit disappointed but the desserts didn't disappoint and was a hit. Our favorites were the Guava Chiffon Cake which was light and creamy, Hokkaido Cheese Tart, Calamansi Tartelettes and also the Paniolo Banana Rum Cake. I love small desserts-less waste and definitely leaving you satisfied when done right! Overall it was delicious- some hits and a few misses but we both understood it was the last Brunch deal day and had a relaxing Pool day afterwards. We both work in Customer Service/Hospitality and we appreciated the Staff working hard and being so welcoming and friendly, full of aloha.

I don't know what I'll do if I lose Nick's Maui. But I dither, Nick's Fishmarket Maui is in an incredible location inside the Fairmont Kea Lani and it's setting alone would be enough to pull me back even if the food was just okay. Thankfully the food is MUCH better than "just okay", it is generally outstanding. I rotate starters and salads because there are so many great choices. The Caesar Salad is about as good as they get, but I really, really like the Maui Greek Salad. With at least four people we start with the Seafood Tower, but find it just too big for two of us. Other than that the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers, Charred Octopus, Crab Cakes and Blackened Ahi are the starters I rotate through. For my Main, I am less eclectic. I have a hard time getting away from the Diver Scallops and Scampi. I have tried other dishes, the Abalone, Kona Lobster and Ribeye (I know, I know, who orders steak in a seafood restaurant), but I keep coming back to. For Dessert, I am also in a rut, but I love desserts they set on fire and in this case it is Bananas Foster. I do sneak bites off my DW's Creme Brulee, as does off my BF. The service is terrific, attentive without being intrusive. I used to joke about the Chicago store that if you knocked a spoon off the table someone would catch it before it hit the floor. The Maui service isn't quite that attentive and I am not sure I would want it to be.

They serve the food family-style but still high-end which was exactly what we were going for so we were not disappointed. Cocktails were great and the vibes in the evening are very nice for a more upscale night out. Food came out a little slower than expected and by the time our Korean fried chicken main course came out we were almost full and had to take it togo. But everything was really good regardless, my favorite being the mushroom salad even though it was a little difficult to chop up since they give it to you as a whole head of butter lettuce. The chicken was really good and really juicy, paired nicely with the side of pickled cucumbers

The restaurant itself is quite tiny with limited indoor seating, bar seating, and a stretch of patio seating. We were seated at the bar and had two various experiences with the two bartenders that were looking after us - the gentleman who was the bartender was extremely kind and attentive. He was engaging and made small talk with us. The female bartender was quite rude and cold, and I debated removing a star for her poor attitude and service skills. Service aside, my husband and I decided to try a few different items, including the Szechuan garlic noodles, pickled cucumbers, aji tamago, and Lion's Mane salad. All four dishes had wonderful flavor and were the perfect amount to share and leave full without being overwhelmed. I appreciated the freshness of the ingredients and the variety of spice. All in all, it was a tasty meal, but they definitely need to work on their consistency with employee service.
