Was excited about this place but was sort of disappointed -- also just a note they do not have a happy hour The squash in the curry did not taste cooked and was very hard, the flavors were not what I prefer usually, I didn't love the curry or tofu bowl, and the tofu was "fried" but still extremely soft (delicious but not what I was expecting) . Over the years I've been to Monsoon (both in Seattle and Bellevue). We've been fans of the happy hour (they have 2 from 3-6 and 9-close) and most recently we've coming more often for the brunch! The Happy Hour options come with $1.50 oysters, it used to be $1, you have to order a minimum of 6. There are other options for food, but we also like the organic pickled vegetables, daikon cakes, S&P chicken wings, calamari. Actually their HH food offerings are quite abundant compared to other restaurants. And of course they have a bunch of drink specials. Discounted cocktails, beer and wine. What I like about Monsoon is that they also discount bottles of wine. Last night we ordered (a) bottle of Rosé for $22 vs. $6 for a glass. As for the brunch, first they have $6 Mimosas or Bloody Marys. I'm a huge fan of their Bloody Marys, there's a hint of 5 spice, maybe? And I love their Drunken Chicken, my hubby usually orders their Crab Benedict. We also had the Cháo Crab congee, French Toast, grilled pork noodles from the brunch menu. Food was over salted...literally the mains were SO salty it was almost inedible. Best things were the tofu spring rolls and the egg roll because the flavor wasn't drenched in salty sauce. And we grow fresh sage at home to match the garnish in the cocktail. I can't wait to share this with friends. We had a number of items from the apps and the mains. Everything was delish, all with layers of flavors, as authentic Vietnamese should have. My top 3 faves were the Asian Eggplant and Catfish Claypot, both buttery and tender, and the nuanced flavor of the Wokked Lamb. Parking is a breeze if you know that you can park in the shops parking with the easy miss entrance beside Peony Kitchen. Highly recommend the green papaya salad with ginormous prawns! It was refreshing and quite filling as well. I ordered it thinking it was going to be a small salad but the portion was bigger than I had imagined. My friend had the fresh tofu roll which was also good, especially with the sesame sauce. The waitress recommended the lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl. It was good as well, especially the charred taste from the lemongrass chicken. But I was already so full from the salad I don't think I got the chance to enjoy the vermicelli bowl as much. We had a very pleasant dining experience here and would love to come back and try more items on their menu. I have been to Monsoon other times before (restaurant week and group lunch) but this is my first time going to their brunch. I was very happy by the amount of crab presented and really liked how they did the potatoes as it was unique. My (tiny) issue was that the mixture of the hollandaise and the brioche didn't hit it right for me. Either the bread was too sweet (after eating the pork bun) or it didn't meld well. I visited Monsoon for the first time recently and it was also my first time trying Vietnamese food. The restaurant was beautiful as is all of the Old Bellevue area! We tried the 'Drunken Chicken', a fries chicken in a sweet and spicy glaze (5/5). It was so crispy and flavorful, without feeling very heavy. The only complaint was that the chicken could have been hotter. We also has the lemongrass chicken vermicelli noodle bowl (5/5). I loved the combination of the warm chicken with the cold noodles and salad, once after mixing it together with the sweet and spicy sauce it was perfect! The chicken was very lemony and flavorful and the quantity was just enough. It also came with a crispy spring roll, it was nice to have some more warm food since we were seated outside. For drinks we had the 'French Pearl' which was light and delicious, very bubble (4/5). It could have been a bit stronger. We also had the 'Sparkling Nightshade', another bubbly prosecco drink except it was a lemon flavor (4/5). Both drinks has basic seeds in them which was interesting. They looked and tasted like chia seeds and added a little crunch? Weird but actually good! The wait staff was very kind and I really enjoyed the experience overall. Inside of the restaurant is a bit dark but that's how most restaurants are for dinner. Their food portion is pretty small so if you come in hungry, you might have to order more than one dish per person + appetizer. Ordered Lemongrass prawns, dungeness crab fried rice, and ahi tuna. I would give a solid 5 star on ahi tuna, but other dishes were around 3 star. Lemongrass prawns comes in curry sauce and it tasted very cinnemon-ish and prawns inside weren't well seasoned. Fried rice was just okay too I felt like it tasted very sweet for fried rice and didn't have much flavor to it. But Ahi tuna was sooo good! I would get that again for sure.
