We had a smorgasbord experience, nine dishes total. Most were pretty good, and service is excellent. The ones to avoid were tofu-- flat and disappointing, and spring rolls with lettuce and cilantro "wraps"-- just a strange mixture. The catfish was well-flavored but a bit mushy. I love Monsoon. Great Old Bellevue location on Main street. My husband and I have eaten here many times. The restaurant is great to take your whole family, our kid like it too! The bar side has a great atmosphere and cozy lounge area. The curried mussels are excellent! You must try the drucken chicken. Everything is excellent, you can't go wrong. Have to say I'm a big fan of the happy hour. Goes from 3-6 and 9-close M-F. Really nice selection of beverages and tasty snacks. Menu changes are frequent, but they keep the staple (popular) items. They also have the cheapest prices on Pappy Van Winkle in Bellevue, and that alone is worth a trip a week! The portions are smaller, but the food is definitely different and is a mix of different types of east-asian food and done well for the most part. You'll pay around $12-15 for most entrees. Don't know what it is, but I consistently get mediocre service here. The servers are friendly for sure, but maybe they just have too many tables or don't get enough support because we don't really get checked up on. Temperature is so important to me. And, at Monsoon, they know how to serve the food at the right temperature. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean they forget their taste buds. The food in my mouth is a combination of a run through the city fountains on a hot summer day, mixed with all the lights and sound of a rave. The service is prompt, professional and perfect. Been there half a dozen times and have yet to have a negative experience, even on their busiest day Friday or Saturday evening at 6 or 7 p.m. One night, I got dropped off from the airport directly at the restaurant, so I was worried about my suitcase. No worries whatsoever! The host was ever so kind and after greeting me, offered to keep my suitcase behind the front counter while I ate. I work in Chinatown/The International District so it's really hard for me to give a place like Monsoon a high rating. Don't get me wrong, aesthetically, this beats out the majority of Vietnamese restaurants I go to, but food/value wise, this place is a solid 3 stars. (Too harsh?? lol) This is the perfect place to take your boujee friend that is craving asian food, but won't step foot in a place like Honey Court. LOL Let's be real, this place is overpriced, BUT the happy hour is decent here. The portion size of their HH pork belly was the perfect amount for a toddler, but can't say it would satisfy an adult. Maybe an adult on a strict ass diet, but even then...LOL Food wise, the dishes here are tasty. I will admit that the quality of the food is great, BUT I've also had the most delicious Vietnamese food at Huong Binh in Little Saigon. I guess it's all about perspective right? The kumamoto oysters used to be $30 a dozen but today I noticed the price of the same oysters per dozen has gone up to $38. Dude. I didn't know this place had a "brunch" menu. I know this sounds weird but French toast is the last thing I expected to see on this menu. And its effing BOMB DOT COM. oh and you have to know...I don't even like French toast. Its ridiculously good. I don't know what more to say. You just have to trust me and order it. The one dish that keeps me coming back for more other than the ridiculous french toast....is the vietnamese crepe. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?????? It's a crispy crepe shell with bean sprouts and your flavor of meat and other sorts of ridiculousness. It's also served with cuts of lettuce, thai basil, mint leaves and some fish sauce concoction. The idea is that you cut a piece of the crepe and wrap it with the lettuce with a little basil and mint leaf and sauce. OMG. This is THE combo that I absolutely love. Umami, sweet, tang....just...wow. the mint and the basil helps cleanse the pallet but adds a mild freshness that just surprises in the most delightful way. Classy establishment in old Bellevue. The parking situation is fairly difficult especially during happy hour. Happy hour prices were fairly expensive still. The food was extremely satisfying. The crispy vegetable rolls and the clams were extremely delicious and I would highly recommend. The service was quick and great about clearing plates and refilling water. Hmm food was pretty good and it seems like this place is rather popular, but I feel like the portions still didn't justify the prices. They were so small!!!! Their grilled pork belly was $10, which isn't too expense in itself, but I was surprised when there was way less on the plate than I expected. Pork belly is a pretty inexpensive meat at any Korean market, and I didn't feel like the "marinated" flavor of the dish merited the price when I could make similarly delicious pork belly on my own stove....I don't know if portion sizes are variable depending on whoever is preparing the dish considering some of the pictures on here seem to show more meat than what my friends and I got, but to give you an estimate, I probably could have been able to hold all of the pork belly in the 1 hand. lol. Crispy imperial rolls were pretty good, not incredible. I felt better about the braised pork shoulder. The portion was more generous there, but I might have been a little hungry eating that alone. Flavor was good and meat was super tender. Again, it was yummy, yes, but not astounding or something I haven't had before... I'd be willing to try something else here if a friend were to tell me they wanted to go here, but I'm rather neutral and might not be willing to spend as much money here next time. read more

The interior of the place was quite dim but it was furnished with a modern style. I feel that it's a good setting to sit down, chit-chat and relax! He also brought us tomato ketchup and other sauces to go with our meals! For the food, we ordered 1) shrimp dumpling ( just because it had 3 , so it was easier to share) The shrimp was mushy and the skin just broke apart before we brought it to our plates. I had better shrimp dumpling :/ The sauce for the dumpling was good though 2) ham and gruyere crepes - it was cheesy and savory! love the generous serving of fresh salad at the side. it was really filling! 3) Drunken chicken w rice - A MUST ORDER! I finally tried something other than the Drunken Chicken, which if you haven't tried it, you must try the Drunken Chicken it's soooo good. The Caramelized Idaho Catfish Claypot was AMAZING! Served piping hot, the catfish clay pot has the sweetest caramelized onions, I've never had caramelized onions this good before. The catfish bakes in its savory juices and is very succulent. Cooked perfect! I highly recommend both the Catfish Claypot and my favorite The Drunken Chicken. read more

For a great night out with friends I'd wholeheartedly recommend spacious and fancy Monsoon Bellevue. Had a wonderful dinner for two on Sunday and enjoyed every bit. The service was very attentive, participative and professional. We got the right information about the dishes we picked and when we followed our server's suggestions the food came out exactly how we said it would or better even. Everything we picked was top notch and perfectly flavored/seasoned. The banana flower salad in particular stood put I'd say because it is served chilled with warm, freshly grilled prawns-brilliant. Dessert (banana cake) was so good we took an extra portion home. While the portions overall aren't really shareable in terms of size, sharing is what we did anyway. Highly recommended. read more

Our family of 4 came here for dinner, ordered 5 dishes, portions were all very small - Bo La Lot for apps (4 tiny pieces), Terres Major Wok Fried Beef (too salty), duck with buns(too salty and greasy), bok choy(good), crab fried rice (where's the crab?). Me and a couple friends came here for food Adventure night on Friday o2/ 09/ 2018 and we wanted to check out what's so different about this Americanized Vietnamese place. The atmosphere was nice, decor is pretty, but I was a bit Disappointed with the food menu. I heard that there was more options on the menu before and they had obsoleted the things I wanted to try. At least the drinks has good options to try. Love the Manhattan fights we got all 6 samples. The food was just OK to me, an over priced Vietnamese food. $20 dollars for bo lot loc. Wth. I can go get a whole bag in China town and steam it myself. But I guess that's the price people will pay to eat at a fancy Bellevue restaurant..... Our bill came up to almost $200 just for Vietnamese food but hey as long as they have the Manhattan flights maybe I'll go back for the drinks. read more

I've been a patron of Monsoons for many years, but had terrible service Saturday night. A week and a half ago, I made a reservation in person with the manager for this past Saturday night. I have some issues with my eyes, and am in able to sit under bright lights. I asked for a specific table, and the manager wrote a note on the reservation regarding the specific table. He did not indicate it would be a problem. We arrived on Saturday night on time, and were told the table had been given away 15 minutes earlier. Other tables were suggested, but none would work for me. As we were leaving, the manager told me they do not guarantee specific tables for patrons. Yet, he was the one that took my reservation, and did not indicate there would be any problem with reserving a specific table. If that is the restaurants policy, then he should've told me when I made the reservation or he should teach his employees to read the notes with reservations prior to seating patrons for the evening. That's the sign of a truly good restaurant that provides top-notch service. As we were leaving they canceled our reservation. read more

Oh my goodness just had the best oysters ever. Shigoku oysters, $2 each for happy hour. Delicious. We ordered a dozen and I had about five on my own. Prior, we had the bok choy, chicken skewers, chicken dumplings, and the ba lo lot which was amazinggggg. For dessert we had the chocolate ganache, creme caramel, and chocolate cake which were all decent but nothing out of this world. Tried this place out for dinner. Drunken chicken was reminiscent of orange chicken from Panda Express but double the price. Overly sweet. The soft egg noodles were underwhelming. Imperial and Dungeness Crab rolls were bland and the sauces they came with didn't help. They came with a hoisin sauce, a sweet and sour sauce, and a sort of sweet fish sauce that tasted like something you can get off the shelf at any grocery store. Dungeness crab fried rice was very bland as well. The tamarind soup had a good flavor however, along with the wokked squid. The Ahi Fresh roll was pretty much two spring rolls cut in half for $10. Nothing about the flavor justified the price and portion size.The Lan Roc pork shoulder was bitter for some reason. The duck con fit buns were good. The aioli-type spread that came with it and the pickled vegetables paired well. Probably the best thing we tried there. Service staff were very quick and attentive. Overall, there were some decent dishes among the ones we tried but the experience was dragged down by the rest of the disappointing menu items we tried. When taking into account the price as well, I probably wouldn't come back. read more

This place has lots of potential but deserves its 3* average because of an uninspiring brunch menu on weekends. We went Saturday and the menu was missing regular lunch fare like clay pot, catfish, etc. that we had come to see. This was the first disappointment. The papaya salad and shrimp dumplings were great, which set up expectation, but the drunken chicken was simply general tso's chicken by another name. The banana cake and coconut milk dessert was good. On other aspects - service was fine, decor is really nice, our non-alcoholic drinks were quite flavorful too: cherry something and a ginger apple drink. Very disappointing. Food was mediocre at best and service was terrible. Waitress disappeared for 15 minutes and didn't even look to see if we wanted anything. Restaurant was operating with very few guests and service could have been much improved. When we suggested that the menu could have been more explicit between what dishes were served cold and what might be cooked/stir-fried the waiter argued with us......he obviously had never been to Vietnam (we spent a month there last Fall). My wife and I paid a repeat visit to Monsoon on Monday and were served in the bar area by Elizabet. The hostess seated us, and we were attended to very promptly. Our server greeted us by stating that the bar was reserved for a private party in an hour, and we gave her a full order immediately.She responded with very nicely paced service that gave us ample room to relax and enjoy, not feel rushed, but still complete our foray with lots of time to turn the table for the party. We shared an Ahi Appetizer and went on to a chicken and a lamb entree. Everything was presented with great appeal to the eye, and a nice touch in seasoning, flair and subtlety in tastes without anything being over pronounced. I'm mystified by some of the lower ratings. No, this isn't a restaurant competing in the Sea Star or John Howie's spaces, but in those places, you absolutely pay for elegance. At Monsoon, we had a great food experience, totally pleasurable service, and left with enough cash still in our pockets to consider stopping at the coffee shop for dessert. We'll be back! read more

As everyone exclaimed over the favorites they food on the menu, I felt anxiety then I spotted their eggplant and knew I had a wonderful dinner ahead too. The beer selection is brief but quality. Our waiter Errol explained the wines offered and which are popular. His enthusiasm, expertise and accessible descriptions almost converted me from beer. We ordered the spring rolls, Brussel sprouts, eggplant, squid, drunken chicken and cat fish. The cat fish was deemed the best dish at our table but all plates were cleared.
