Updating my review after finding Mindy. Although my first experience at the salon wasn't a positive one, I decided to give it another try with Mindy, and I'm glad I did. Mindy does beautiful, consistent gel fills with great attention to shape and detail. My manicures have lasted about three weeks, and the soft almond shape is exactly what I asked for. I bring my own OPI Bubble Bath and Funny Bunny polishes, and she's happy to use them. She listened carefully to my preferences, respected that I don't have my cuticles cut, and was extremely thorough. She checked every finger and carefully trimmed the small hangnails that needed attention, which I really appreciated. The owner was also pleasant during this visit, and overall the experience felt much more positive. My nails look elegant, natural, and beautifully finished. If you're looking for a skilled nail technician, I highly recommend requesting Mindy. read more

I have been a customer of this salon for a few months, but after this experience, I will never return. My regular nail technician recently left, so I called the salon before booking my appointment. I explained to the gentleman who answered the phone that I have ingrown toenails that require someone with experience and the proper technique to maintain them so they don't become painful. Without hesitation, he told me that **Wendy** was the best person for the job and scheduled me with her at 6:00 PM. When I arrived, another technician was ready to begin my pedicure. I explained that I had an appointment with Wendy. I was then told that Wendy wasn't available, yet they still expected me to proceed with someone else. That wasn't what I had specifically called ahead to arrange. I got up and went to the front desk, where I was met by a woman who appeared visibly annoyed. Rather than communicating with me, she relied almost entirely on gestures and handed me her cell phone to speak with the owner. The voice on the phone sounded like the same gentleman I had spoken to when I made my appointment. During that conversation, I was suddenly told that no one named Wendy works there and that I must have meant Mindy. I had already seen the technician wearing a name tag that said "Mindy," so I knew who they were referring to. After waiting a few minutes, another employee told me, "Mindy is ready for you." At that point, I noticed that the same technician I had previously seen wearing a "Mindy" name tag was now wearing a different name tag. This salon is in a prime location and serves a discerning clientele. Customers deserve honesty, respect, and clear communication. Instead, I felt like I was being misled and treated as though I wouldn't notice what was happening. I chose to walk out. They do a good job but don't expect kind or friendly service. And it's really expensive! I asked about the differences between hard gel, regular gel, fills, etc etc. and no one could or would answer and they were annoyed that I asked. Patience and kindness go a long way. This is my neighborhood spot and it doesn't feel neighborhood friendly. :-( read more

5 stars for this salon! I went about 2 weeks ago and didn't have the best experience. Went back in today to try again and I'm SO glad I did! The customer service from Dennis was top notch. The place is beautiful and the results were great. I appreciate that they're open late. Not 5 stars because they hurt me a bit with the nail file and cuticle nippers and it was expensive. It's $10 extra if they have to remove previous gel so the pedicure was $75. The manicure was $55. read more

attitude of some of the manicurists. A woman was tripping my nails and actually cut my skin and was blasé about it. she kept telling me I wasn't bleeding when I had blood coming out of the open cut. And then they charged me for the polish change, which they did do, but I think given the circumstances it was ridiculous to charge me. Taking my wife here today for a pedicure at Montana Nail and had a wonderful experience. Mr. Luu, the owner, is incredibly friendly and welcoming--he made me feel comfortable right away. Dylan, my wife's nail technician, was very skillful and professional. He did an excellent job and paid great attention to detail. The salon itself is clean, spacious, and has a relaxing atmosphere. So happy I found this place! It was a great first experience, from when I called and spoke with Luu to make an appointment for a basic hand polish change. My nails are natural, strong and hard, and needed to be cut, which I do about every 4 weeks. The salon is spacious, and most importantly, does not smell like toxic chemicals as most do. My manicurist, Mai, was excellent. The price was fair, $15. I'd been going to Beverly Hills to get my nails done. Why? Because I'd had SO MANY problems finding a good place in Santa Monica. Here are some examples: when you look away for two seconds, they cut your cuticles, even though it is AGAINST STATE LAW. I've also looked away and had my toenails cut down to nothing, where I had to go to the doctor. Another practice is trying to upsell you on other services while you're sitting there. None of this happened, thank heavens, and I highly recommend this place! I also noted a good brand (Josh) of complimentary wine on the way out, along with some snacks. Maybe next time. read more

I got my nails done over a month ago but waited to post a review so I could comment on the quality/longevity of the nails. TLDR: I had a wonderful experience!! Great service and ambience. The nails lasted over 4 weeks. Parking: Easy! There is a lot of parking behind the salon. Even with the event going on, I was just able to find a spot. Ambience: Super cute! I went during a Yelp Elite event so there were snacks and drinks out but even without those, the salon is very aesthetic and clean. Very spacious. Service: Wonderful! Everyone I interacted with was very nice and professional. Everything was clean and sanitary. They give you gloves to protect your hands from the UV. My tech was very thorough in her work imo. My gel manicure experience took about an hour. It's not the cheapest salon in the area but is pretty fair. Of note, I think most staff/techs speak some English. However, my tech had very limited English proficiency so communication was quite difficult. It would have been helpful if another staff member (some techs were waiting, without clients) was able to help communicate on my behalf (my preferred color, shape, etc; what's popular; what looks good with what). Nail Quality: I don't get my nails done often but I think these turned out very well! Not a single cut on my nails or cuticles during the shaping/filing process (my skin is sensitive). All my nails shapes were even. Most importantly, the nails LASTED. By the fourth week, there were maybe two small chips. I didn't take a photo, but even at 5 weeks, you wouldn't have been able to tell that I got them done over a month ago (other than because of the nail growth). read more

Not a good experience. Tina, who did my pedi was great but Ha didn't cut my cuticle enough so when she painted, the paint was all jagged. After complaining, she tried to fix it by putting MORE paint on and not fixing it. Then when I was checking out and told the manager, he gave me $8 off... 8!!! Sonny was very precise with my nail shape and French tips, making sure to build the base flawlessly and trim my cuticles. My new go to as the areas I'm frequenting has changed and Montana Ave. is back in my sphere. Love it. It's clean, they wear gloves, the equipment is sterilized,there's online scheduling, it's easy. There's parking including metered, they can take walk ins, it's convenient. It's not a bargain. I think those days have just disappeared but I leave here happy with the service and confident the equipment is clean. I'm a repeater here.
