Nice spot for brunch. We sat outside on a gorgeous day. The manager seems like a great guy. He was solicitous and I even saw him fixing tables & making sure guests were comfortable. Our waiter was grumpy. Not sure if she was having a bad day but her attitude was the antithesis of the manager. He had to tell her to come over to us. She seemed annoyed that my friend had a question about what she was ordering, and didn't check on us until it was time for the check. It wasn't a busy morning, the inside restaurant was empty, and there were other wait staff working with the other tables. Anyway, my friend ordered the avocado toast with eggs and I ordered eggs benedict. Both were very good and we enjoyed them. We had a great time talking, and looking at the dogs seated at the next table, and it was just a nice morning all around. We each had a coffee. I'm only taking one star off for the waiter because everything else about the visit was great.

Did not enjoy my dinner here. But first I'll start with positives. I like that it has a diner vibe with roomy booths to eat. But I did not enjoy my meal. I had a burger and it was not an enjoyable eat. The meat was cooked how I had asked but the burger itself was bland. Also, strangely, it was placed on top of the fries which made it a messy eat. The fries were underwhelming as well. As for service, the waiter had actually forgotten to take my order and I waited over 30 minutes just to place my order.

This place is special. It's a diner but it's not. I've ordered from here many times before and they have not disappointed. We ordered the Mixed Grill, Lamb Chops, and a burger for my son. I asked them not to cook the protein hard. I know complain about things being week-done. I am not that person. We also asked for the lamb to be medium rare, according to my wife it was. Nice. As far as the burger, it was what you would expect, no complaints from my son. I love the options they provide. In such a small space they get it done. Oh and the wings were great.

Great food with awesome portions and friendly staff. Really enjoyed spending New Year's Day lunch here. We were seated upstairs and had the whole section to ourselves which was very nice. Kids menu were offered with a lot of options and ice cream for after. The group ordered a whole bunch of different things and it all came on time and perfectly. Happy customers!

This cute diner style restaurant was conveniently located on the main road on Church Street. After checking out other locations and reviewing their menu, we decided to try brunch here. We enjoyed the extra large three egg omelet with avocado and home fries. The burger and fries, along with greek fries, tasted yummy. What I enjoyed most is the large portions. Decent service, clean bathroom, and comfy style restaurant.

My sister and I decided last minute to go out for lunch but couldn't decide what we wanted. We Googled a few places and chose Montclair House Grill because of their extensive menu. We sat on the patio which was lovely. Perfect for people watching. The staff does a fantastic job of umbrella management to make sure patrons are well shaded. Like I said, their menu is huge. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with so many choices from appetizers, salads, handhelds, entrées; American fare, Mexican, Greek, Vegan. They were very accommodating when I asked for the Bacon Cheddar Grilled Chicken Wrap with a burger instead of chicken. Really delicious with the burger! My sis had the Turkey Bacon Club. Real roasted turkey breast, crisp bacon and avocado. It was one of the best club sandwiches she's ever had. Our meals came with soup and we both had the matzah ball which was perfect. We also shared an order of sweet potato fries. Service was fantastic. We were checked up on often and our server was very sweet. We will definitely be back soon.

After walking all around downtown Montclair, my friend and I ended up here just because it looked great from the outside with a nice friendly ambiance. So we ate inside but there was plenty of covered outdoor seating that was available on a warm, sunny, Saturday afternoon. I had the huevos rancheros skillet and my friend had the chicken wrap. For less than $14, I got quite a meal! The eggs were fresh, the meat was tender, and overall it was just very delicious. Very much got my money's worth! My friend also very much enjoyed his chicken wrap. Would love to come back and try some more of the multiple things that are on their menu. Service was also good. This is one of the things that keeps me coming back to New Jersey. The restaurants have such good variety and I so much enjoy trying them out. Hope to come back soon!

Stopped here for a quick brunch while walking around Montclair. We got the country skillet and the california skillet. Both were really good! They were more like an omelette on top of potatoes than a skillet with everything mixed in like I was expecting. Either way both were really good and there was plenty left over to take home. Love church street's ambience and this is definitely a convenient and affordable brunch option in Montclair. Service was great too.

I came here today to have a lunch meeting with the buddy. Pretty clean place inside with our standard diner type menu. It was lunch so I wanted to try the burger because I like diner burgers. Sometimes it was pretty standard but worth the money they had a good assortment of Panini's and sandwiches, I would definitely come back and try some of the breakfast stuff or a sandwich

First time visit with a party of four.we were greeted by a friendly smile and promptly seated. Our waitress was amazing! So friendly and took our order (four very different dishes) without writing anything down - and all the food was delivered without error! Very impressive. The BBQ burger was huge, quesidilla as well. Glad we stopped in and would definitely return.

Stumbled across the place just walking around the area. We wanted to eat outside and just have a quick salad. I had the sesame chicken salad. It was good lots of chicken and loved the dressing but the carrots should have been shredded instead of just cut (hard to eat). Service was quick and price was reasonable.

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star, it's truly a 0-star restaurant. I went for dinner today and CHEWED A PIECE OF GLASS FROM MY SOUP. I spit it out and then found MORE PIECES OF GLASS in my soup. I called the manager over, and he didn't even seem sincerely apologetic. He just asked if I was okay and then said "it's not something we can control", like excuse me?? And then he went away WITHOUT offering another soup or anything at all; I had to call the waitress to ask to not pay. I ended up not paying for the meal (which, frankly, was the least they could do, given that I CHEWED AND ALMOST SWALLOWED GLASS). The food wasn't good either. Don't make the mistake of going here.

Came out to Montclair with the family and decided to pop in here for an easy dinner with the kids and I can't say it there wasn't a better choice. The service was awesome everyone was so friendly and happy to be there. The staff was great!! We had both my 8yo and 1yo with us and we decided to sit outside and enjoy our meal. It was peaceful quiet and no one bothered us it was great! All the food we ordered was very fresh and our son ate everything off his plate plus off ours! He enjoyed a. Vanilla milkshake which was a great! Before we left the staff serenaded us with a mini happy birthday for the little one since he turned one and we enjoyed coffee cake a little extra ice cream! The coffee was actually really good. I get nervous about coffee from diners they're usually burnt and I like mine black. Their coffee was great!! The s'mores cake was a lot of fun and was delicious!

The food is really bad. one of my forks had crumbs all over it my napkins had cheese on them. my sandwich had hair in it. Service is terrible they didn't even offer to pay for my food. it doesn't deserve any stars but I gave it a star because that was my only option. read more

I had lunch here on friday 10/18/2019 an had a little trouble finding it because google maps kept sending me to a comic book store on a adjacent street instead of the actual address ... ( odd ) Anyway ... the Montclair House Grill was a pleasent find . The decor style is late 70's early 80's Americana , the place is clean with english speaking european Spaniards , with 70's to 80's rock and roll playing in the background . The menu is well laid out and th prices are cheap and the portions are filling . I had a bacon , blue cheese burger with fries and a large lemonade ( see picture ) for $12 . I recommend this place , it's on a quiet side street ( if you can find it ). read more

ordered Greek fries and chicken Mexican panini which came with fries and soup (chose chicken noodle). Food was good/tasty but nothing exceptional. Fries were made as round/thinly cut potatoes and were topped with feta cheese. Ordered iced tea on the side which was nice too. Total for everything came to only 21$ which is really a great price ! Service was so fast especially for a busy Saturday. Waitress and staff were so kind as well. read more

Came to Montclair to eat at Cuban Pete's and the wait was so ridiculous that we decided to find another place and came upon Montclair House Grill just around the corner. They have a lovely outdoor seating with umbrellas and they were very accommodating to our request of wanting to be seated under the shade. Their lunch specials were very reasonably priced. I ordered chicken Marsala with brown rice for $9.95. And my friend had Greek salad with chicken for few bucks more. The plate came out wonderfully presented and everything tasted very good. Our server Tracey was absolutely delightful. She gave us refills to our coffees and was very attentive. Their inside dining area is huge and looks kind of like a diner. Tasty food and extensive menu, so there's something for everyone. Very generous portions, too. You get hearty soup with your sandwich. My one complaint (though not really that big of a deal) is that they didn't bring napkins or forks. We had to ask for napkins, and when chicken started to fall out of my wrap, I had to use my soup spoon to scoop it back up. My father wasn't able to eat his coleslaw because no fork, lol. But I don't think he really minded. Also, don't sit at a table for two outside if you're tall, because there will be no legroom under the table. But great food and great place to people (and dog) watch. read more

Came here in January, I really wanted to like this spot , we were carving breakfast food one night we left out of Raymond's next door because they were only offering their dinner menu at the time ... so I pulled out my phone to YELP and found the grill house walked in and we were seated right away ... I forgot the women's name that served us but she was attentive ... we started off with a hot chocolate made with milk which she was kind enough to make for us however it came out Lukewarm .....the food came out and it looked ehhh just ok my waffle was deflated , idk why my mate got steak from a diner but ehhh he said it was shoe leather ... the eggs and cheese were good so that's a plus... but hey maybe it was just an off day for the kitchen but I'll never know .... read more

Breakfast is a big deal for us as we are always trying different places in and around the Montclair area. This particular morning was no different as we sidestepped Raymond's and walked down a few stores to The Montclair House Grill. The diner was practically empty on a chilly Fall day so we migrated to a booth against the left hand wall. We always start with hot, fresh coffee and we're in need of some this morning. Although only two other customers were seated within the diner, we had to motion to staff in order to ask for coffee. We then ordered coffee with milk for both of us. About 5 minutes had passed and we had still not seen our coffee. I waived over to staff, got their attention, and was advised that the coffee was being brewed. Frankly, for a diner, one would want to believe that a pot of coffee is always on the hot plate ready to serve with a back-up pot as well. In this instance, it was clearly not the case. We then ordered our breakfast. After a few minutes, my annoyance may have been noticed since two cups of fresh coffee (with milk on the side) were brought to us. My wife had one of their "Skillets" which appeared good. I had their French Toast which was fried, not carefully cooked on a griddle which is what I had anticipated. With regard to coffee, I literally had to beg to get the second cup, not a good sign. It should be noted that there is only a single front door to the diner. Each and every time it was opened, a blast of cold air would enter the dining room. Clearly, Ownership should consider having a second door installed to create the "air lock" affect to offset having that blast of frigid air enter the room. After all, Winter is close by and we don't plan on being inside of the Montclair House Grill to feel the change in the weather. read more

Came here for brunch. Sat inside and felt comfortable at first with just one other family inside (11am on a Monday), but as they got busier they sat people right next to us which made me uncomfortable with COVID. We got the siracha avocado platter and California skillet, both were delicious. I ordered an almond milk latte, not great. read more

We were seated right away they weren't that busy. Around 2/3pm on a Tuesday. We ordered kids spaghetti, grilled chicken club & a cheeseburger along with some cokes. Burger is huge, doesn't for the bun but all were very good! My sandwich didn't come with fries ($2.95 extra). Waitress was very nice but not as attentive. Once we were served she never came around and we waited a while for the check & to pay. No biggie, when I'm in the area I would come back. read more

Very nice quint medium-sized restaurant. Server was helpful and quick. Food was above good but not excellent. Prices are reasonable. Two of us for a late breakfast. Had the doctors 3 egg-white omelet, which is made with tomatoes and broccol. Comes with fruit cup and toast. 2nd order was 2 egg omelet with cheese and ham, which comes with toast and either hash browns or grits. Our only complaint was that the toast came burnt. Asked server for replacement, she apologized and replaced immediately. Looked like they had nice cake and muffin selection, but we did not try any. Street parking is a little tough to find, and remember to feed the meter. Overall, it was a good experience and would go back. Sorry, no pics this time read more

The food is GREAT! The breakfast is amazing, and I typically cannot even finish the short stack pancakes, because of how big they were. The breakfast is amazing, but its the lunch I love. I honestly prefer the burger/fries, and the buffalo wings. The sauce is amazing, and even you need to state that you want it tossed, its barely even that big of an inconvenience. They never burn it, never undercook it, and even the presentation is great! The place looks great, and looks a lot fancier than the customers. I even personally know the owner, and his daughter. Chris (The owner) is incredibly nice, and his daughter, one of the waiters, is always great, and never makes a mistake. read more

Wish I had read reviews from this place before I ordered. I am always looking for a new place to order dinner from, & I didn't do enough research to recognize that this is more of a breakfast joint. I have ordered from here a number of times because the plethora of choices in the menu made me happy. I'm a big seafood lover, & they have a few shrimp choices. I have tried the shrimp & chicken pasta & the grilled shrimp, both were ok. I'm always looking for a place to order a dish dinner from as well. I have ordered their broiled filet of sole twice. I will NEVER do it again. The fish both times was mushy, like it had been frozen & defrosted numerous times. Their lemon potatoes leave A LOT to be desired, they are potato wedges semi cooked with some lemon flavoring thrown on top. The mixed vegetables are mostly zucchini, and almost taste like they come from a bag of frozen veggies that are already flavored from the food store. I take full credit for my poor choices, they may be a good breakfast/lunch joint, but I'd stay away from any non diner food selections. read more

Stumbled upon this place as one of our favorite restaurants was closed. We sat down outside, since this is a pandemic. The place seemed initially unorganized upon our arrival, but this got better the night progressed. I ordered the vegetarian pita with a side of french fries and my boyfriend got the chicken gyro with a side of the garlic potatoes. We were both pleasantly surprised by our dishes. I thought mine was good, but nothing phenomenal. I primarily ordered it for the haloumi and feta cheese inside of it! The grilled chicken on my boyfriend's dish looked tender and delicious. Overall, I thought our experience here was fine. It would not be my first choice to return to in Montclair, but worth giving at least giving a one time shot! read more

Great staff. Consistently great food. Huge-ass menu that can accommodate everyone. Don't neglect the dessert window. Great cakes and pies! Take out orders can get a little soggy but still yummy and if you're dining in you're pretty much guaranteed to like your meal and have leftovers. Great casual spot. read more

Lamb chops were pretty good. The salad had a bunch of rotten greens, though, yuck. The replacement did, too. The whole point of a salad is fresh food. Portions huge. Overall, ok but a little disappointing. read more

Last weekend we held our baby shower here and Chris and his team (yay Tracy!) were as good as it gets. There was no rush - we set up, they asked about timing food and made sure everything was prepared and ready to go. Tracy killed it keeping tabs on 40 people PLUS making sure drinks were full, kids were happy, and did it all with a huge smile and fantastic attitude. The food was perfect - there was something for everyone and nothing was overdone - SUPER difficult to do with a group our size. Everyone enjoyed the spread, and the fact that we could BYOB some champagne for mimosas was the topper that made the baby shower truly fun. As we were cleaning up, the owner was helping the couple carry gifts out to their car - true above and beyond service and care. I can't say enough wonderful things about the team, the ambiance, and the support they all bring to our community... this will forever not only be a staple in our rotation of places to go eat and support, but it will live on as a memory of a perfect experience with our best friends that we will never forget. read more

Had a Tuscany wrap- chicken with roasted red peppers, mozz, and basil. All good. The waitress was not that informed about ingredients, but the owner was right there to fill in. I appreciated that the waitress also thought to ask if there was flour in the soup, and brought me a salad instead. Saved me a sibo episode. We were also able to substitute the fries with vegetables. Very satisfied and will return to this bistro when in Montclair again. The inside looks more like a diner, but the al fresco dining was great today. read more

My wife and I had dinner at the Montclair Grill House before a concert. Wow. We love this place! So glad we found it. No reason to go anywhere else before a Wellmont show. I had the Turkey dinner. Perfect. Large portion of Turkey. Great mashed and veggies. Matzah ball soup! My wife had a Caprese chicken sandwich and said it was excellent. Prices very fair. Service prompt and friendly. Easy walk from parking deck and Wellmont. Five stars well earned. read more

We will forever have memories at Montclair house grill. My two friends and I don't live close to each other and Montclair is our meet up spot that is the half way point. Whenever we decide to catch up over dinner we always say, "the usual spot?" And that is MHG. They never disappoint...their food is fresh, good portions, and very tasty. The staff is also always a pleasure. As friends that don't see each other that often, we have a lot to catch up on and that takes some time. They never make us feel rushed or kick us out. Definitely would recommend. read more

I noticed on the menu that they had some gluten free items. I called to check to see if they have a dedicated fryer, but they don't. This means the 'gluten free' items are not gf, because the food is fried in the same oil as the other food. The website should mention this so people know ahead of time that the food is not gluten free. read more

Delicious meal. Outdoor seating and all tables were properly shaded. My wife had Huevos Rachero that she really enjoyed. My son had the barbecue burger that was as tall as him. He loved it. This place is anything but a 4 star spot to eat. I brought my girlfriend here on a 95 degree day, and instantly noticed that the inside was more humid than outside - they didn't have the a/c on, seems cheap...but more important than the messy and disorganized interior / and mismatched lighting, the food was nothing shy of a 1 star. I got a simple chicken panini, the chicken wasn't fully cooked and the panini had no flavor at all. My girlfriend got a veggie wrap and it fell apart and looked like mushy old rotten vegetables. Not coming back and would not recommend, Raymond's is most definitely worth waiting for - and worth the extra few bucks... read more

The menu is outrageous! I'm loving a healthy Mediterranean diet lately and Montclair Grill house has so many choices! One of my favs is the Mediterranean Chicken dish with olives, tomatoes, spinach, the best brown rice etc. the chicken is moist and full of flavor. Once on a while I'll want a good ole hamburger or the portabella burger! Oh and the grilled vegetables are a must! Comfortable vibrant atmosphere right on the corner of the infamous Church st in Montclair NJ. Dining al fresco today, Yay. read more

Gina was our waitress, she was excellent and patient! We were a large group who had planned to dine at Cuban Pete's but the wait was ridiculous!!! So we walked up the street to MHG. Luckily we were able to dine outside and enjoy the live music On a Saturday night. We tried this place a few weeks back. I was being lazy and did not want to cook. I was really craving wings. Not just any wings but bar wings that pair well with a big pint sized cocktails. You know the kind the cute Irish bartender gives you because you are a good tipper. Or maybe he likes you? I ordered three lunch portions of mild wings. The wings arrived quickly. I recently dined at Montclair House Grill, and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the uninviting atmosphere. The décor felt outdated, and the overall ambiance was dull and lifeless. It didn't take long to notice a musty smell lingering in the air, which only added to my disappointment. The service was equally abysmal. Our server seemed completely overwhelmed and disinterested in providing a good experience. We waited far too long to have our orders taken, and even longer for our food to arrive. When it finally did, I couldn't believe how bad it was. The dishes were poorly prepared and lacked any flavor. I've had better meals at fast-food joints! As if that wasn't enough, the bathrooms were in a shocking state. They were dirty and poorly maintained, making it clear that cleanliness isn't a priority here. It's hard to enjoy a meal when you're concerned about the hygiene of the establishment. Overall, every aspect of Montclair House Grill was a letdown. From the food and service to the bathrooms and ambiance, nothing met even the lowest expectations. Discriminating customers with different races? I and my spouse were the 2nd one in the waitlist for outdoor dining. After the first people from the waitlist got a seat, they brought a new table and chairs from inside. The table was put away from their main dining area. There were two tables soon to be ready but they offered us the table to seat away. I wanted to leave but i decided to stay. I told them i want the seat under the parasol so we didnt take the 'stay-away-from-others-table'. After we ordered meals I saw them removing the table. If they left the table and let other people from the waitlist to seat, then i wouldnt take this seriously. Even after there were two groups of people waiting to be seated, the table of isolation was gone. Will never go to this restaurant again.. I regret spending money there. I am so happy that the Montclair House Grill, formerly Manny's Diner, has a new owner! Chris and his family are always so warm and welcoming to all of their customers. They treat their waitstaff with respect, as well. The quality of the food also seems to have improved. I really love the OMG French Toast! This place is wonderful for groups, work functions, brunch with friends or family, sitting outside in the summer and watching the world go by, you name it. This is a great family-friendly diner, but you don't really feel like you're in a diner when you go there. The food is definitely a step above your average diner fare. The waitstaff are attentive and helpful. Tracy, in particular, goes out of her way to get to know her customers and never gets an order wrong. Check out this establishment.
