Monte Albon is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area. I eat here maybe once every 2-3 months and have never had a bad meal but I have had some bad experiences. Monte has an enormous menu which is nice but at the same time makes it difficult to choose. The food is decent but nothing I have tried there has really blown me away. The pricing is pretty good for the amount of food you receive. The interior is not so great, it goes for that old traditional Mexican look but if you look closely it's more like an old dirty Mexican restaurant. The staff here is really hit or miss, sometimes we get a great waiter/waitress other times we get one that needs to check their attitudes at the door. Overall if you enjoy Mexican food you should definitely try it at least once. Like I said it is one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

Me my wife and another couple decided to come here for drinks and appetizers. The other couple was looking forward to frozen margaritas. As it was around 7:15 PM on a Friday night we expected to wait at the bar and start off with drinks. It was a busy restaurant that night as expected. We ordered 4 margaritas but it took a while because they ran out of the large margarita glasses. A bit odd in a Mexican restaurant that boasts it frozen margaritas. One of our drinks was put in a small cup but the waitress said she would refill and charge for only one large drink ( this was no huge deal but annoying), We got seated after about 20 minutes( not bad). They sat us in an area that had poor lighting. I asked the waitress to turn on some track lighting over us. When she did only one out of three lamps worked(poor Maintenance). The waitress came and took our drink order but came back to say that they ran out of margaritas(REALLY????) At this point I was ready to leave but the wives wanted to eat so we reluctantly place our order. I had the steak nachos as an appetizer. Nothing to write home about. Steak strips were VERY fatty. only three ingredients: Nachos, cheese, steak strips(unexciting). Throughout this whole process we had no utensils until we asked for them. That took a while as they said that they had run out and were grabbing them from the kitchen. The waitress apologized to us and we told her that it wasn't totally her fault. It was a poorly managed restaurant. I've been to the Monte Alban restaurant in Irondequoit and had pleasant experiences there. The owners need to regroup and take a hard look at how this one is being managed. The only reason we went to the one in Webster is that it has a larger bar area that the one in Irondequoit. I go to pick up lunch for my work place once a week. Every time I spend over $40. This time, they wouldn't honor a 1/2 price lunch item coupon because it was photocopied. Really, a $2.50 discount. Went here for the first time on friday night with a few friends. It's very busy! Waiter was extremely nice! Answered all my questions and helped me pick out dishes that I would like. Food didn't take long at all to come out but they didn't come out together. Everyone got their dish at a different time which I found really strange. The soup is about $9, but the bowl is HUGE! I would rate the food average at best, service was so so, I had the fajitas they did not bring me a plate so I used a napkin, the quest was awful melted cheese for 5 bucks, Salsa and chips were good, from out of town on business will not be back. Waited at the hostess stand for 10 minutes without acknowledgement. Waited 45 minutes for a table. The hostess was miserable, never said a word to us. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine - go elsewhere. Pros - the bar & waitstaff were quite pleasant! Cons - The food is mediocre at best because it's not fresh. With a menu that extensive, I had to assume most of the food is frozen or canned. Unfortunately, I was correct........... - The salsa tasted like canned tomato puree with some canned enchilada sauce and a scant few canned diced tomatoes tossed in. - The mexican rice looked and tasted exactly like the Goya Mexican Rice blend you can buy in a box from Wegmans. - The "Pancho's Special" is nothing more than a few small shrimp and some bits of chicken and some onions - grilled. The chicken bits were no larger than my thumbnail. Additionally, "Pancho" forgot to include Mexican seasonings in this dish - so I'm not sure why it's listed on a Mexican menu. - The only item that was fresh on my dinner plate was the lettuce - which was smothered in flavorless guacamole. And finally - the bar tab.... I paid $12.50 [outrageous] for a frozen margarita that was most certainly prepared with a drink mix; NOT freshly made to order with fresh lime juice, triple sec & tequilla. Bottom line - you could prepare more authentic Mexican cuisine in your own home for 25% of what you will spend at Monte Alban. We've eaten there 3 times in the past 2 months, and will again soon. We enjoy the food and the atmosphere. In our most recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the Enchiladas Supreme, which has generous portions of 4 different fillings. The fact that the meal was curiously hidden under a mountain of shredded lettuce did not affect the good taste of the food. I *love* *love* *love* the habanero menu! The habanero steak tacos are to die for. The staff is average, but the owner is there a lot seems to keep the place humming. One day I sat at the bar and the owner started asking me about the place. He was real attentive, and even gave me a free draught for my thoughts. ;-) It's easy to eat and drink well, and get out the door for under $20. For a business traveler, this is right on the money. I live in Webster so this is a go to place for me and my family when we feel like Mexican. Prices are good and I love their margaritas. They tend to put lots of ice in them so I always say little ice. My favorite dish is the habanero burrito. Don't let the name scare you, the hot sauce comes on the side. Very quick service too so you can bring your impatient little ones along. The complimentary chips and salsa are yummy. I also recommend the homemade guacamole. read more

I have never posted a review before but because our experience was so bad I felt I need to post one. The service was poor at best. Took at least 10 mins for anyone to ever ask if we would like something to drink. Our waitress returned with our beverages and took our food order. What kind of suprised me was then she went to some roll around cart and made what looked like guacamole while tables waited for her service. Food came out pretty quick was bland and just ok. From the time she dropped out food off we never saw her back. One of the other girls noticed a look on my face and asked if I was ok, to which I replied I think out waitress died. What also struck me as strange was the waitresses busing thier own tables. Kind of made the place look sloppy and unorganized. Once was enough for me and we will not be returning. read more

My wife and I went there on a friend's strong recommmendation and were thoroughly disappointed with the quality of the service and food... After being seated, we waited for nearly 10 minutes before a miserably-faced waiter [not our actual waiter] brought over some salsa and tortillas. He spilled some salsa on the floor and left it there for someone else to clean up almost 10 minutes later. Our tortillas were stale, so we asked our waiter to bring us some fresh tortillas, only to receive the same stale tortillas, only warmed up. $4.99 for queso, which was a cheesy water, was a rip-off. Our entrees [Echiladas Mexicanas & Burritos Sonora] were flavorless, and the rice was bland...definitely an instant brand. The only thing worth giving it the 1-star rating is the decor of the restaurant. If you enjoy Mexican-style food as much as we do, spare yourself the disappointment and pass on Monte Alban. read more

Went to the new Penfield version of this restaurant today. When walking in, there was a sewer-like smell with the sound of a shopvac in the back. Not a good sign. I should have left then. We got the worst waitress I have ever had in my life. The food was not great. BELOW average. The chips were stale/flavorless. The food came quickly...almost TOO quickly, obviously not made-to-order. The Webster location disappointed. I've always gone to the one in Irondequoit and have always enjoyed myself. This time we made the mistake of going during the lunch rush hour. Service was incredibly slow. I had requested black beans vs refried beans, they brought the refried beans and when I told them the error, she asked if she could switch it out but I was so hungry and tired of waiting (30 min) for the food, I told her not to worry about it. Well, out of the kindness of her heart, she brought a huge plate of black beans which was thoughtful but wasteful too. My entree was sloppily put together and barely looked edible. It did taste good but there are more authentic mexican restaurants worth trying in the area. read more

Don't know what all hype is about. We recently moved to Webster and thought we'd try take out since we're so busy. I ordered the Burritos Deluxe and my husband ordered # 25 off the combination menu (beef burrito and beef enchilada, rice and beans). The ground beef was so salty and the shredded chicken wasn't any better. It came with shredded lettuce and sour cream. Can't you buy that anywhere? Also it wasn't that warm when we ate it. It came in foil containers and my husband had to wait for it and we only live 5 min. away. Taco Bell is definitely better. Save your money people. read more

I agree with anyone else who has said the margaritas are fabulous, but wayyyy over priced! I mean come on now, house liquor and some margarita mix for like 7 bucks?? a SMALL one at that. But oh well, I still bought some! I ordered the Quesadilla Grande, and it was phenomenal! I love their pico de gallo, so favorful. The service was not the best, we were one of the last groups there before they were apparently closing, and we were waiting for our checks FOREVER...I went in to use the bathroom and there was our waitress texting on her cell phone in the bathroom.....And she was still there when I walked out. My husband and I decided to try this location and we are so pleased that we did. At times we like to eat at the bar. Tonight we did just that,,because our bartender made us feel welcomed from the first thing he said to us "welcome to monte alban how may I serve you?". Whoever said Taco Bell is better must be puffin' on that crack. Or they just don't like authentic (granted psuedo authentic) style Mexican food.
