Stopped in for a quick lunch after exploring the local area. There were 4 of us in the group and when we arrived the restaurant wasn't busy and we were able to secure a table on the patio. The inside was pretty deserted apart from a few patrons sitting at the bar but overall the ambiance is nice and fresh and bright. Because I wasn't too hungry try I settle on the G.O.A.T salad with shrimp, my friend got the jerk chicken flatbread, her mom got the chicken egg rolls and we got the kid's cheese pizza for my friend's son. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and when it was brought to the table it looked good. Their choice of plates is an interesting one because the plates have specks that make you think they're dirty. The egg rolls weren't good at all and the inside wasn't fully cooked so you could take the flour in the wrap. The jerk chicken flatbread had no jerk sauce/seasoning on it. The salad was good but again the plate makes the dish appear unclean. We ended up sending the egg rolls back and they took them off our bill which was nice. read more

I wasn't expecting Caribbean food in the middle of Minnesota and Montego Blu did nothing to change that. Unfortunately, their menu was totally different than what they advertised online. While I understand food costs and needing a pared down menu, gone were the uniquely Jamaican dishes such as the jerk bowls and the jackfruit, etc (still on the website by the way). So what I tried was a Jamaican Banh Mi. Basically, grilled chicken with some sliced vegetables in an imitation of a Vietnamese banh mi. I really enjoyed the sauce they drizzled on and their mango Cole slaw was one of the first times I actually liked a restaurant Cole slaw. Sadly, a sandwich with a thin slice of chicken breast and some Cole slaw is not worth the $19 price tag. While the service was very good, Montego Blu doesn't stand out anymore given the lack of their Caribbean options. read more

Such a fun spot! We came on a weeknight and it was not crazy but bustling! Honestly we'll have to come back to try more, but the food we did have was delish! Service was great, friendly and efficient! Our two kiddos ordered kids meals, which were fine and what they would want (cheeseburger sliders and mac and cheese). Hubby and I shared some cheese curds, which were yum! Sometimes restaurants do the heavy breading, but these were light and crispy and stringy! Exactly what you'd want! For dinner we did tacos (and by that I mean my husband got them). He did a trio - grilled mahi mahi, jerk chicken and jerk pulled pork. I only managed to get a bite of the grilled fish taco, and it was tasty and flavorful! I was having a hard time choosing, and ended up getting the jerk chicken nachos. These were the largest plate of nachos I've ever seen! And I loved them! Lots of different toppings made for great bites, plus loved the white queso! So delish! We'll be back to try more! When in Excelsior you have to eat here! We stopped here because my good friend is the cook. This place is great, the beer is local and the food is out of this world! We started with the Caribbean Egg Rolls, so delicious and the house made honey dipping sauce I'd put on anything!! We then had 2 tacos: jerk chicken and jerk pulled pork, so much flavor! For our main dishes we had the labor inducer burger and the jerk chicken sandwich. So much wonderful food, I cannot wait to come back and try so many other things! This restaurant is modern, clean and really makes you feel like you are somewhere tropical. The menu is large and a lot of items sounded good. I went with the shrimp curry bowl and it was very flavorful and well composed! For cocktails, I tried both a pomegranate and a raspberry mojito and they are both mediocre; the pomegranate was better than the raspberry because the raspberry tasted very artificial. All-in-all the drinks are very over priced, $12 for mediocre is not good. I'll come back to try more food but will skip the cocktails. read more

Really unique and delicious Caribbean food. Many of the items also come with classic Caribbean flavors (including a bit of heat/spiciness). Drinks are colorful and fun, the ambiance of the restaurant is nice, and the live music offerings are a fun addition. I'll defiantly try it again. There was some lack of attention by the staff. Restrooms were completely out of toilet paper and the restroom trash cans had no bags in them. There were lots of staff awaiting dinner rush who should have been able to attend to these issues, but even after telling a server nothing was done after almost a half hour when we had finished our meal. Most of the staff seemed to just be hanging out. This restaurant has serious potential! I applaud the cleaning of the restaurant and the quality of food, but a bit more attentiveness and enthusiasm from staff would bring up the experience to an unbeatable level. read more

We are always looking for spots to eat in Excelsior, so we were excited to try something new! Parking can be hit or miss, as there is primarily street parking nearby! The space itself is definitely an upgrade from the dark and drabby previous establishment occupying the space. Walls are lined with tropical wallpaper, Jimmy Buffet was playing over the speakers, and plenty of natural light flooded the space. My only comment was that the tables and chairs are all just kind of skewed around the open room. I think it would greatly benefit from some built-in booths, and some organization/order to their table line-up. Our server was super friendly, attentive, and on-time throughout our stay. The menu has a lot of options, including true American bar food but also tropical-inspired cuisine. There were a few different things that sounded yummy, but I decided on the Labor Inducer burger. It was perfect! Juicy, flavorful, and appropriately cooked. The fries were substantial and perfectly paired with their island dipping sauce. Excited to come back and try more! Well- while I am sure these folks have some fans - today they don't earn any. We walked in at 11:30 am hoping for a quick brunch/ lunch .learned they no longer serve brunch so we pivoted to their lunch menu. A ceasar salad served with shrimp resembled the old premade ceasar from red lobster . Served with 6 barely discernible shrimp- warm but tasteless . The chicken sandwich came out either raw or overcooked - we still are not sure - but it was rubbery. Sent it back and when it finally arrived the second time cooked - it was tough and tasteless . Never had the waitress offer us coffee after the first cup- and still don't know what she was doing - as we were her only customers . Was a trivia night but was barely full...seems to be a place where its alot of repeat people coming in as mostly everyone and the dj knew each other. Food was good! Made a reservation, received confirmation of the time and date, and even received multiple texts so to not forget about said reservation. I show up for the reservation and the business is closed. No notification or sign on the door, just a dark restaurant. Zero communication from the restaurant afterwards and after digging deeper, looks like the business partners are suing each other and food quality reviews seem to be on the down slide. Of course we ordered off the menu expecting them to give us the prices listed. When we closed out our bill the prices didn't match the menu prices so we asked about it and she said the prices are only good during happy hour. Wait, what? The chicken did not taste like it was cooked with sauce just mixed with it after it was boiled or steamed . Rice and peace lacked flavor. They had single crispy plantain for decor , it would of been nice if plantain was part of the meal sautéed like in Jamaica as a side . Apparently the restaurant menu changed 1 month ago. I came in expecting a tropical fish dinner and key lime pie. Now there's goat on the menu. The food choices I settled with were average. I could have made it better myself. They were even out of the pineapple salad dressing. The design work on the menu isn't the same anymore either and the menus were not even holding up. I feel like this place got offloaded to somebody else. Unfortunately, I anticipate a 6 month demise. There's no way it's going to survive the winter. read more

First time visiting this newer add to downtown Excelsior. Was joined by my parents and 6 year old. The space is bright and has a fun Caribbean vibe to it and offers a lot of interior and some patio seating. The music playing was on point with their tropical vibes too. We had a reservation and were sat right away. The staff was welcoming and smiley. The menu itself had me concerned both in its appearance (think the old plastic covered Perkins menus) and it was such a large assortment of items (ribs to pasta to tacos) that I was nervous that everything would be just okay. Thankfully the food we ordered didn't disappoint, but I really think they could benefit from a little menu makeover. My mom has the G.O.A.T. Salad with jerk chicken which was good but maybe a little boring for a full dinner meal. My dad had the ribs and loved them. Tender and flavorful, he said he'd for sure come back for them. I enjoyed the jerk chicken taco but would skip the grilled shrimp taco next time. The pineapple slaw side was also yummy. The kids menu has the usual suspects and my kid opted for the cheese pizza and fries and I appreciated they served his right away and he enjoyed it. The key lime pie for dessert was great! Their drink menu looked fantastic featuring a lot of tropical blended drinks but I missed that and had already ordered a beer from their nice list. I'd for sure come back for a pina colada next time! This place is definitely an upgrade over the previous tired hotdog joint. The new owners brought taste and spices to Excelsior in an upgraded environment. We sat outside on their patio (furniture is due for an upgrade) and enjoyed the perfect weather. We noticed that the table next to us was eating chips and queso (our go-to) but saw that it wasn't on the menu. our server stated that they could modify their nachos for us which was much appreciated as we weren't that hungry. We then ordered one each of their 4 taco varieties (chicken, shrimp, beef, pork) and have declared them the taco kings of the West Metro! The flavor in their meat and slaw is incredible and nicely spiced. Can't wait to go back to try their spices in other dishes. Good value for the money as well at $6 per taco in high-end Excelsior. Only knock is that everything we ordered was very slow, but they've recently opened so will check back to see if it improves. read more

Liked this place the first time we went, 2nd time wasn't the best, but decided to give it another try tonight. Absolutely vile. The 2 Chicken sandwiches we ordered were almost impossible to bite into. Rock hard, and not to mention pink. What they call their "Cheese curds" was a melted together slab of "cheese" swimming in a pool of grease. Best part about this $50 meal was the fries that were mid at best. Gross. read more

Decided to grab lunch with a couple of friends after our Sunday church service. The hostess and servers were prompt and courteous and the food was fresh and tasty. Although there is no marked handicapped street parking, we were able to snag a van-accessible spot. I had came here super excited because of the reviews and location and how new it was. I admit i had pretty high hopes because i love jerk food and was not super enthused afterwards. Sat down pretty fast and the atmosphere was good, the place was cute I can admit. I ordered the jerk chicken wings as a starter and they came out maybe room temp and had flavor, but the dipping sauces not so much:/ i was excited because they seemed pretty original too and had potential. Honestly the two entrees I had at my table i don't really remember because they were also room temp and not what I had expected. Our server disappeared so we couldn't get refills on drinks or get the bill for a minute so I had ordered a mojito from the bar while i waited. It was extremely strong and turned me off from it. It honestly didn't taste like the correct liquors were in it. I would try this place again but I was disappointed in how my first impression went. read more

There was a positive energy inside without being too loud. We had to wait on a busy Friday night for a table but it was worth it. The food was so delicious! We tried the ribs, the mahi mahi bowl, the jerk chicken bowl, the wings, and the tacos. All of it was good! Flavors that you won't find other places. One more thing, the people working there were happy. They were working on a busy night and all of the people that came to our table were happy. They were absolutely fantastic! We continued to order our lunch which consisted of a veggie flatbread and lobster mac and cheese. Both of those items were delicious. My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time today. The food was excellent! Fantastic flavor and seasoning. Also, the food was plentiful. Our server, Michaela, was attentive, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Both owners took the time to come and speak with us. I will tell everyone I know about this wonderful restaurant. It is worth the drive to Excelsior. There is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. Just look for the signs. read more

Absolutely delicious, mostly unique eats! Owner(s) are always present to make sure everyones dining experiences are enjoyable. Wasn't sure what I was in the mood for, when I told the owner this, he gave two suggestions of items not on the menu... They brought out a Panko encrusted chicken breast with spicy honey glaze, their in house created cole slaw and a couple of their unique pickle slices. It was a fantastic sandwich. Add their special french fries and it was perfect. Topped if off with a simple gin and tonic, tall! I eat here regularly and am still trying new menu items, and always enjoy the dining experience. Menu is Caribbean flair (Jamaican) planned and delivered by a gentleman from that region of the World! They also offer delicious burgers.
