This is a beautiful restaurant with healthful food options and nutrition info (calories/fat/carbs/protein) under each menu item. We were a part of seven and service was prompt. Our server Jay was delightful and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Our food came out as it should, apps and salads before mains, and everyone enjoyed their dinner. I had the Seared Scallops on cheese grits (as a Girl Raised In The South - GRITS, lol) I love grits and few restaurants get them right in MN. This one does! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the grits were creamy and thick. Scallions and lardons added a nice flavor. I loved this dish and my *only contrary comment is the popcorn garnish. I loathe popcorn; luckily it was just around the plate so it was easy to push aside. One of the best things about this place is the mini desserts! After years of driving past Mill Valley I finally stopped in for brunch! First off the space is beautiful. It is located on the main level of an apartment complex with a decent amount of parking available. The decor kind of looks like a hotel restaurant so it's very modern with bright, neutral colors and nice fixtures. It's actually a very large space with a decent size bar area, dining area, and private dining area but has a cozy feel. Perhaps my favorite thing was BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS!!! This is the way brunch should be! For my meal I got a kimchi breakfast bowl. It was good but didn't really wow me. The flavors were good but didn't have the punch I expected. My partner got the Benedict and that was delicious. Our bartender was absolutely fantastic. We ended up hanging out, drinking mimosas all the way up until brunch was over and she was done with her shift. Super friendly. The relief bartender was equally as awesome and we ended up hanging out and splitting a burger and some wings The burger was just okay. Honestly not good enough to get again. We made reservations for Friday at 6pm- super easy but not totally needed as the main portion of the restaurant wasn't full. They do happy hour until 6pm but only in the bar and on the patio. I arrived a little early and was hoping to grab a HH drink but no luck. The menu is pretty unique and I highly recommend checking it out before you visit. There was only one or two things that caught my attention that night and I ultimately went with the smash burger for $19. All of the handheld options come with a side salad, I paid $3 to upgrade to roasted potatoes- it was the right move. I wish I would've been asked how I wanted my burger- maybe I missed it on the menu but mine was pretty rare, and not my go to. Waitress was friendly and attentive. She stopped by several times to refill our water and ask if we needed anything. We also got the grilled chicken wings with the Korean dry rub. These were some of the best chicken wings I've had as they weren't too spicy, and tasted like they were taken right off the grill. The Peach, Ricotta, Prosciutto Flatbread was another fan favorite as the sweetness of the peach paired well with the salty prosciutto. Met a couple of friends here for drinks and dinner. The entrance is hidden in an apartment building and next to a physical therapy clinic which i found interesting. We had reservations so got seated and started with a couple of beverages. Ordered the old fashioned and found it to be very sweet. Asked the server to help out with my next choice and he recommended the Dill Caipirinha, which was more my speed. Also had their Night Club and the Summer Passion (which the server recommended I ask for less sweet) and they were both pretty good. We ordered some wings for appetizers and we all had the miso seabass for our entree. The wings were flavorful and crispy. I enjoyed that with a good mix of spice and flavor. The sea bass I wasn't as impressed with. It was good. But the quinoa was a little bland and the cucumbers could have had flavor. Overall a good piece of fish but I wish the accompaniments were more flavorful. We ended the evening with the dessert trio (we chose Maple Panna Cotta, Key Lime and Triple Chocolate) and I had the Graham's 20 yr old port. The desserts were quite good and the port was also very good and a very nice end to the evening. I didn't dislike the place and would come again to try some of the other dishes. MIll Valley Kitchen has an absolutely fabulous and generous happy hour. I love happy hours (the luxury of leaving work early, and getting a menu deal!) and Mill Valley Kitchen is such a fun experience. Great apps, happy hour drinks, really a totally good party time. My partner and I came here for an early Valentine's Day celebration and IM OBSESSED. I love how every dish had a unique twist that made it special. The curried cauliflower and Parmesan broccoli sides were to die for. We also had multiple desserts (loved the maple panna cotta with volcanic salt and the crème brûlée). Got seated right away in the restaurant upon arrival but parking was a hot mess - give yourself time to find a spot as it's a shared lot with other businesses and an apartment complex. For dinner we shared a variety of things. The miso sea bass was the winner by far! Steak was nice but sides (polenta, eggplant) were nothing special and not great. So it appears they have an amazing happy hour, and the place was packed, but we walked in the door and Peter took good care of us finding us a table we were comfortable with outside. Our reservations were for six, but we got there 15 minutes early and just made the happy hour muscles. They were amazing and I would recommend them either for happy hour or as an entrée even if it is after happy hour. Also ordered the mango spring rolls, which were delicious. Noah took great care of us giving us good suggestions and keeping us up-to-date on how things are going in the kitchen. We found our guests in the bar and brought them back to our table. Sharing our starters that we had ordered. I recommend the steak salad, our friends had Bison burger, roasted mushroom flatbread, and my husband had some seafood soup I believe look delicious. Everybody was very happy with our meal and of course we'll come back. Actually thinking about it today we might have to make another reservation or I might have to find a friend for happy hour!? I recently went for brunch and had a great experience. We went around 12:30 and it was pretty quiet so it felt cozy and the servers were attentive and quick. I ordered the breakfast burrito and loved it! The flavors were great and it was very filling. I also got the spa day drink which was yummy. Everything is definitely a bit on the higher side for price but it seems that their food is local and organic so that makes up for it. I would definitely recommend! My friend had a pizza with nothing but vegetables, but still flavorable. My wings were great, tender, flavorful, and left me wanting more. The dessert selection was also good. The wait staff was friendly, made suggestions, and made our dining experience very enjoyable. The restaurant was great in that the noise level was not too loud, the other guests enjoying themselves and beautifully decorated. Mill Valley looked like a good place to have celebratory drinks with a few coworkers. We sat outside on a nice day, but it's right on the street and can be noisy and distracting. I have been here a couple of times and notice it feels more like it is in California near a vineyard or something, rather than in sleepy MN. The food is meh. It is good, but not great. We had the spicy Korean wings, the charred cauliflower, and the orecchiette with sausage and spinach. I have no complaints about the food, it just was average, not memorable. The service was ok, but I think they were short-staffed, so everything took a long, long time. Credit to our server for staying calm and friendly. It just was a letdown to have to give up waiting for our server to pay and then just hang around the host stand and flag someone down to pay our bill. read more

The salmon came with a strange, purplish radish that just tasted off. Service was a bit awkward and our server didn't know a lot about the dishes themselves, shared he hadn't eaten the salmon before. Some of us were dressed in our "Sunday Best" and some were in "athleisure" attire and we all felt like we fit in. We had a 10:30am reservation on a Sunday. Here's what we ordered: -Brown Rice Bowl (4/5) delicious and flavorful, but a few of my friends thought the rice and chicken were too salty. My broccoli was raw, and some of the others' broccoli was grilled. I would definitely order again. -Eggs Benedict (4/5). Many of us ordered different versions of their Eggs Benedict. Eggs were poached perfectly and the side salads were fresh. -Bottomless Mimosa for $14 (5/5) -Mini Dessert Trio (5/5) LOVED tasting the mini versions of each dessert. When she finally arrived she greeted us and took our order. She finally came and checked on us when I was almost finished with my meal. She never even brought us silverware. We asked another server to help us out. The whole experience seemed off. The food was good. It didn't blow us away. The beer list was not exciting or fun. I would not go back. The only thing good about our experience was the hostess was very chatty and charming. If the server had been anything like her our experience would have been different for sure. It's probably one of contemporary American restaurants with the healthiest choices in town. I have been here twice after a long bike ride and a long hike. You would be feeling so satisfied even you might be craving greasy food before you walk in. The cooking style is simple and authentic but with a fusion twist. I love my Umami bowl. It's a Spelt noodle soup with mushrooms and green bean sprouts with Asian spices. A little spicy but very hearty. The bison burger doesn't disappoint. It's a mix of beef and bison. The savory salad and homemade bun that came with the bison burger blew us away. The steamed mussels didn't come with bread, which is a bit unusual. I also had Day Spa, a cucumber ginger juice. I came here with my Mom, at her suggestion, which was surprising because looking at the menu it looked like it might be kind of challenging for her! At least that's what I thought at first... when we arrived, it seemed we both found ourselves curious about many of our options and had trouble deciding. I went with the steak sandwich and it was probably the best steak sandwich I have ever had! The balance of flavors between the meat and the horseradish sauce, plus the fresh-baked bun, it was so good that I was sad that it was over. Fortunately there was a flourless chocolate torte on its way to make me feel better. My mom got a ham/fig/bleu cheese flatbread which she loved. The dining room is large and very, very nicely decorated, and our service was really fast and friendly. If you've never been here, you're missing out. Mill Valley Kitchen combines an absolutely beautiful space with excellent drinks and an exquisite dining experience. I started with the mushroom tart, which definitely made me do a little happy dance. There were several varieties of mushrooms that were all cooked perfectly. There were a few beautifully browned bits that provided some Maillard magic. This plus the Gruyère and perfect crust gave each bite a lovely salty umami. The grilled scallion mustard was an absolutely beautiful companion that perfectly bridged the tart and its accompanying salad of mushrooms and frisée. The salad's simplicity allows you to appreciate not only the individual flavors and textures but also the taste of the ingredients in the dressing. I also snagged a bite of my mom's salad--the watermelon and tomato. It's early, but I'm calling it--this may be the salad of the decade right here. Lush watermelon (sweet, dense, red, and exactly how watermelon is when you dream of it), gorgeous heirloom tomatoes (sliced thin enough to feel almost like a vegetable carpaccio), pickled rind that had bite from chilis and depth from allspice(? clove?), a lovely bath of feta dressing and basil oil, and a tasty sprinkling of pistachios. This salad is the kind that makes you happy to eat it but kind of sad to know that you could never create it. For my main, I enjoyed the special vegan entree, a Jamaican Jerk Jackfruit. If you haven't tried it, jackfruit is a fascinating meat substitute. It's texture is reminiscent of pot roast, but it absorbs the flavors of its preparation. This dish is GOOD, y'all. The coconut creamed corn is easily the best corn I have had in my life, and when you get a bite with everything on it--the jackfruit, the corn, the crispy plantain, and a piece of the micro cilantro--you will have a moment of joy. You will. The textures and flavors come together to make a smile. I don't usually like dessert, but after a meal this stellar, I had to look at the dessert menu. You guys, they have micro desserts! They come in shot glasses, so it isn't too much, and they're delicious. I got the tiramisu, which was exactly what I have always wanted tiramisu to be (but usually found that it wasn't). This tiramisu is rich and creamy, and it has a gorgeous layer of soaked ladyfinger. The sweet, the creamy, the slight bitterness, and the crunch of nuts made for the perfect end to a beautiful meal. Mill Valley is a place I walk by regularly. Situated on Excelsior between the lakes and heading west to St Louis Park. I haven't eaten here in a few years. I think this place doesn't get talked about enough in our city. It truly has the space to host three times the people I saw there at the time of my visit. I saw a full bar, dinning room, and full patio area. I went in the middle of the week, it was a delightful experience. It wasn't packed, it felt intimate, and the weather was beautiful as I sat on the patio. Food was pleasant. Staff were personable and friendly. I felt I could have sat and talked with staff all evening. The menu has a lot of great offerings, I have to come back and try more things. Like I mentioned before, I'd like to see what it's like on the weekend for this spot. Parking lot is in the back of the establishment facing Excelsior BLVD. Never have I seen this before! I appreciate that the brunch menu is not too extensive because that helps me with narrowing down my choices. We got our drinks then ordered appetizers but our appetizers took over 45 minutes to arrive. Since we waited so long, we put our dinner order in, but our dinner arrived just as we were finishing our apps. Since the apps took so long, they sent us a free dessert. We weren't thrilled with the choices so we picked the Milk and cookies. They warmed up the cookies but that also meant they were burnt and hard, not fresh baked and gooey. The fee, therefore, is an inappropriate profit grab. When I complained about the fee, the restaurant manager became quite combative. OVERALL: Flavorful food, lots of options for gluten-free folks! FOOD: we weren't the hungriest when we arrived but I'm so glad we ordered these mussels. They were a hefty portion and and full of flavor. With added chorizo and the green pozole broth, it added lots of depth. I wish they had provided a piece of toast or even a spoon so it was easier to drink the broth with the mussels. The bowl was also a bit small to actually contain the broth and it was very messy. The dessert even being gluten free was so good and also you wouldn't have even known it was gluten free! DRINKS: Both were fruity and flavorful. The Times was basically a twist on an aperol spritz. PRICE: $15 for the mussels and the drinks were $13. Other entrees varied from $20-$30. I did see that they offer happy hour though so I'll have to come back for that! But no "low-priced" options for entrees. I recommend just getting a few starters. SERVICE: really the only reason why this was a 4 star review. Understaffed Mismanagement: Sat down for brunch at 1pm on a Saturday... waitress brings water takes drink and food order and vanishes! We grab manager to get our drinks 35 minutes later and he brings sodas... we go the bar to get our own specialty drinks... an hour later - no food. They keep saying "it's coming soon"... we give up waiting after an hour and finally leave to go eat at home.
