I booked a week-long stay last month, and from the initial contact with the Inn, I had a good feeling we would enjoy our stay. I had several interactions with the staff before arriving, and each time everyone was courteous and very helpful. Pacific Gardens Inn is perfectly located near almost all the tourist places in Monterey. And for those who love walking, I'd say almost everything is within walking distance, but my family and I like walking, so walking 5 miles is not a big deal for us. The Inn is older but very well maintained. It's owned by a family, so they make sure everything is clean and updated as much as possible for older architecture. They provide a sort-of continental breakfast and have a laundry room for guests to use (just make sure you bring a few dollars in $0.25). This is a dog-friendly establishment, but please call in advance because only a few rooms are designated for dogs to stay in. The walk to the beach is about 5 minutes (depending on how fast you walk). I highly recommend Pacific Gardens Inn. read more

We stayed at Pacific Gardens Inn for 2 nights in the first week of April, 2025. When we searched for hotels, we realized that most places that have good reviews are quite expensive. There are only a few exceptions and Pacific Gardens Inn is one of them. So we decided to stay here. We were not disappointed. The location is nice---this is a 5-minute walk from the Asilomer Beach and close to downtown Pacific Grove, groceries, Monterey Bay Aquarium etc. There is plenty of parking. The room is pretty good and spacious, staff members are very nice, the outdoor hot pool is great, and the breakfast is decent. The only thing is that the front desk lady is sometimes a little grumpy. Overall, we were quite happy with our stay. Would gladly stay there again. read more

The Inn is nice, the outside is in dire need of staining which is one's first opinion of the place. The actual room was large and quiet. Fireplace and popcorn machine were nice touches. The negative is the woman running the place. My friend and I meet up in PG at least once a year. We have never been treated this way. My friend arrived first and needed to urinate. She was told our room wasn't ready and refused any other bathroom. This lead to a bad situation. When I arrived I really had to go. This was not available. My go-to spot when staying on the Coast. Why, you ask? Dog friendly! Dog friendly! Dog friendly. Need I say more. If you love your pooch and want a hotel within walking distance of the beach and food and coffee are a short walk or drive. They give a booking discount in the form of a waiver of pet fee if you are a return booker and call them directly. The apartments are my favorite with full kitchens and fireplaces as well. read more

I was planning a stay for our anniversary but needed a place in the Pacific Grove area that would allow pets, to find out they won't allow my cat. This was a very enjoyable place to stay. It would have been five star except for the really loud housekeeping staff and the lack of decor in the room. I believe that the hotel is bit by bit renovating and at some point the room will be decorated (and the very old and cracked lampshade will be replaced). The staff was friendly, although the cleaning staff was loud, aggressive, disrespectful, and straight up scary. They banged on the doors very loudly starting very early and made guest feel unwelcome. When I mentioned this on 8/19 in the morning while checking out. The front desk gentlemen made it clear...it was outside their control and the cleaners were in charge. When I mentioned that this fact would prevent us from returning, he made it transparent they didn't care what I thought. So. I won't go back. read more

The popcorn maker and fireplace are the best part of the room but the room smelled like animals. I brought my dog because it's pet friendly but the room smell was so strong, so just a heads up if you book a pet friendly room. Maybe because of the carpet? The walls are very thin! You can hear everything, especially if you have a ground floor room. The beds are very firm and hard to sleep if you don't like firm beds. Parking is very limited. Continental breakfast was nice! If the room didn't smell and the beds weren't so firm I would give it 5 stars because the staff are very welcoming and the location is great. read more

Updated / the first night @ new house after leaving property we noticed Multiple yappy dogs next door, at our new place and my dogs don't even react one time cause THEY don't BARK!!! . Took videos of it and have ring camera footage when we left for three hours , at the new place. Not one peep. Updates written on 5/24 -they are lying to booking. Cop And YELP saying dogs weren't allowed in the room alone. AMY SAID THAT IT WAS FINE to leave them in the room SOOOO MANY TIMES AT CHECK IN. UNLESS THEY'RE THREE BIG DOGS I guess. Cause that was a lie. Look at the reviews who confirm they said it's ok. They discriminated against us as gay men and our pit bull. She also said SHE WALKED by the room and they barked? And when she walked the property , where is the footage cause if For a long time the whole time we where gone?i asked for it so I could re train them and she said there wasn't any footage and wouldn't take any for us if it happened again. Proving it's all Lies cause when we came back she NEVER Said to us, any customers complained and said IF they do they'd she'd call us to come back again and she said it's cause they're 3 BIG dogs. We'd have to take them with us and leave in our truck, Her words not mine. We took very offense to the disgusting comments she made, the lies. I have years of proof of this cause I TRAINED THEM. PERIOD I AM Reporting them to the bbb and hotel license board too. SENDING THEM ALL THE FOOTAGE TOO. They have NO footage of my dogs barking on-site at all. I asked for it. It's not true, but they said they filmed me and the front desk lady talking ??! BULLSHIT. I did tell her she was drama, the place is toxic. We asked for it and they said they didn't have itThen where is the camera footage you claim To have?? LIES LIES Even the booking. Com people have seen this happen before I've got all the messages from them too saved as well. I don't know or care who Robert is cause we dealt with AMY. You can clearly see if they have footage I wasn't loud or anything accept I told her to her face you're drama and this pace is toxic. Which it is. I can have many many witness attest to my dogs behavior over the last 7 years. Including experts, vets , dog/ house sitters and dog day cares who all LOVE our dogs. They have no proof it was our dogs unless they stood in front of our door taunting them to bark which seems more and more likely so they could kick us out and complain. Let me tell you how beautiful & amazing this place is! First my bf & I stopped in Monterey this last weekend before making our way to our Airbnb in Felton. Well due to unseen circumstances we couldn't make it up there & our vehicle was broken down. So we were basically stranded. The mechanic who was helping us was able to find a room available for us at this little charming Inn & it was the best experience we had. First the location is gorgeous. Quiet little neighborhood & walking distance to the beach & to a few restaurants. We got the Kingsize bed with a fireplace in it. It was beyond spacious especially for being last minute check in. They have a wine & cheese hour which is a great little selection. Everyone there was so kind & friendly & even let us check out a lil later since we were waiting for my vehicle to be fixed. The continental breakfast was so delicious! They had a waffle maker, fruit, hard boil eggs, fresh coffee, pastries etc. We ate outside & enjoyed the bluebirds stalking us LOL We decided to come back every year for our anniversary/birthday celebrations. read more

Rude breakfast attendant! He was nice to other guests, but really rude to me. I even considered suing him due to harassment. The Manager should keep a close eye on him because other guests may start complaining, maybe he was just having a bad day, but it's very unprofessional to be so rude. This place was terrible... had bugs in the bed... room smelled... was supposed to have adjoining rooms with my daughter,they were in another building.. lots of extension cords plugged into each other which could be a fire hazard... people were running up and down the stairs til 2:30 in the morning (both buildings)... there was a large dog with their people in the room above us and it was running back and forth... just a horrible stay..thank goodness it was only one night.. read more

Planning a trip for 3 years to see the Monarch Butterfly migration we searched for a place that would take our two dogs, close to everything we wanted to see and priced right to still enjoy our trip. After looking over many different options, reading reviews this seemed to be the best 3.5 star choice and we weren't disappointed. Even better our dogs had the BEST experience making our trip relaxed and amazing for us to enjoy all that we wanted to do. Pacific Gardens Inn is tucked in the woods within walking distance to the Asilomar Beach that was convenient and perfect for getting our dogs and us out to relax while taking in the sunset or have the mornings greet us each day of our visit. Our room although the decor was a bit dated was ample in size with a king-sized bed, plenty of floor space and an actual wood burning fireplace plus coffee and popcorn maker. The Inn even has complimentary continental breakfast with quite a spread that we were able to grab coffee for our mornings on the beach each day and in the evenings the complimentary wine and cheese in the lobby was nice to chat with other guests as we sat on the outside deck sharing with us that they had been coming to the Inn over the years with their fur babies. We even got additional inside scoop on some great places for the next time we visit. Seems all the guests felt the same as we did GREAT little place to stay with your furr babies and be in the heart of Pacific Grove. Pacific Gardens Inn gave us a wonderful, relaxing getaway and experience. The staff here definitely deserves 5 stars from the moment we checked in, suggestions around town and offering to make reservations like the big fancy places, to housekeeping taking care of our room with our furry family members with us, the wonderful complimentary continental breakfast and wine & cheese evenings plus the gorgeous grounds. The stay at Pacific Gardens was totally last minute, as it was an unexpected stay on a slight detour to my road trip with my trusty Husky and my best friend. Two days before, I was able to make a reservation for what I hoped would be a very cozy summer night in the Monterey bay. We can start with the area, which is absolutely enchanting. Driving through, you wind through a small community that looks at home in a Hollywood film. Really, I arrived on a very chilly and misty summer night, and was totally floored. The reception office was in after-hours mode, and for some reason I recall the young lady being quite a bit aloof, I must have caught her in the middle of a nap or something. Either way, check in was relatively quick, if a bit rough. Not great customer service, but mediocre. Unfortunately, we missed the wine and cheese that is served in the evening. The grounds are gorgeous, though I'd describe them as a cozy backwoods inn versus a modern hotel complex. The room, now that was a treat! Relatively big, although it was peculiar to have a door to an adjoining room, but it didn't really bother me at all. Nice small table and chairs were useful for enjoying the dinner that we picked up. I called the front desk about a microwave, which they have, but isn't a regular item in the rooms. No worries, they brought one over, and the gentleman even lit the fireplace for me and brought over a few extra logs for the night. We enjoyed a nice dinner, and then felt compelled to pop some popcorn and watch a bit of TV. We lay down on the flat bed, and just hung out for a bit before falling asleep. While the bed felt like it had seen better days, it was comfortable enough, and the night was quiet and peaceful. Now, the next morning was filled with excitement over breakfast. Why so much anticipation? Well, I happen to be a huge fan of a good breakfast. We were one of the first ones in the small room, which very quickly filled with other guests. They had an amazing selection: Belgian waffle station with real maple syrup, actually good coffee, home-made muffin variety, bagels with cream cheese, various pastries, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, and probably more. I fixed up a few plates and went outside to enjoy a foggy morning "in the woods", even though you're really less than half a mile from the ocean. It really was the best-tasting breakfast I've had at any hotel. Next time I decide to go back to the Monterey bay, I'll definitely try to book this incredibly cozy and enchanting dig-friendly place. read more

A lovely place to stay for a family of five. The kitchen had all of the amenities to cook breakfast and dinner here. This place had complimentary breakfasts and wine in the evenings, but we never seemed to be around on time. Not only are you a 5 min walk to one of the most beautiful beaches around the property has amenities like a hot and bbq which you can use at any time. They free complementary breakfast is beyond expectations and the wine offered at evenings is a great touch. My family and I along with our bulldog Mugsy have stayed here 5 times now and we love it. The popcorn popper and fireplace in room is a great way to end your day. We will definitely be returning again we love this place and if you stay here you will fall in love as well. We had a great experience staying at the inn. It was terrific to have been able to bring our dog with us. Even though it was a dog friendly inn, you rarely heard any excessive barking. The room was spacious , clean and well stocked with necessities. They even supplied the popcorn for the popcorn popper. I especially appreciated the clean wood flooring instead of carpeting in the room. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Pacific Gardens Inn is a quaint dog friendly inn located across the street from Asilomar and a short walk to the Pacific Ocean. The hospitality is excellent, breakfast in the morning, complimentary wine in the evening and logs for the fire every night. It is about a 25 minute walk to the town of Pacific Grove, with a giant preserve park for butterflies & deer, which we enjoyed walking through several times. Plus, the Inn is minutes away from the 17 mile drive entrance gate. Unfortunately, the two hot tubs were closed due to Covid County restrictions, which was very understandable. The Inn was very clean, allowed us an early check-in and gave us a room that had not been occupied the night before. All employees wore masks and everything was clearly posted. We will definitely return to Pacific Gardens Inn next time we stay in Pacific Grove. read more

My husband and I had a fabulous time. Yes it was a little out dated and the room needs a face lift. Beds are on the firm side and no shower water pressure. I'd stay here again. While the place could use some updating; the price is affordable and the cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff and the amenities were fantastic. The location was very quiet and peaceful, yet it was only a 2 mile drive to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I had a room with a fireplace and real wood! My view was of a wooded area, complete with a visiting blue jay. They also supply a popcorn popper and popcorn. I was impressed with the quality of the breakfast they provided during this pandemic and the steps that they took to be sure everything was individually wrapped. The wine in the evening was a pleasant surprise, and the only draw back was you took your glass to go, due to the pandemic. I'll be back. After a very disappointing $500 a night stay at Pelican inn (on moonstone beach ) on our drive up north, I was not really expecting much. More so since the letter's exterior was a lot more lavish . We were pleasantly surprised . Very good service and kind staff. Very clean and well maintained room. ( considering it's a pet friendly room ) .The large and functional wood burning fireplace was our favorite. The warm waffles for breakfast and complimentary wine were nice extras . I want to clarify that this 1 star review is solely for the raggedy b*tch working the front desk. 5 stars for the other staff though, especially the cleaning ladies who were nothing but kind and hardworking! The front desk lady was elderly and nothing but disrespectful to my family and I our entire stay. In the mornings, we would greet her and she would ignore us. She also was extremely rude and yelled at me just because I was struggling with using their outdated waffle makers. My family and I witnessed her being rude to another guest as well. This was our first time staying at Pacific Garden Inn and we absolutely loved it. Yes the rooms are a bit outdated and the carpets are a bit worn out but to us those were minor details. We weren't really there to spend the entire time in our room. The location is awesome!! You are walking distance to the beach and a short drive to Monterey wharf, downtown Monterey, Lovers Point, and 17 mile drive. The breakfast in the morning is very yummy! Loved that they had little details in our room like popcorn, coffee, fridge, and fireplace. Can't forget the wine, cheese and crackers in the afternoons we loved that. Also they are pet friendly and that's a huge deal for us because we travel with our pup. The staff was also very friendly and made you feel right at home.
