Maybe we're just spoiled by having experienced better Mexican food before but this place just didn't do it for us. We won't be back. We were a little disappointed to see they didn't serve alcohol once we arrived. No big deal. Moved on to dinner. The chips and salsa was okay but I thought it was weird they didn't serve their chips warm. We ordered nachos as an appetizer and barely ate them. The meat was mushy and every other topping was just slopped on top in clumps. Onto the main course. Again- okay but nothing to write home about. Steak tacos were pretty dry and had no toppings at all- not even onion or a lime wedge. The rice was probably the best thing we ate all night. After leaving we found our card was double charged and this still hasn't been resolved. I guess we'll have to file a fraud charge with the bank. Overall... There are better options. We came up for a weekend trip and decided to swing by Montezuma's for dinner we were not disappointed. We ordered queso to start and I thought it was delicious. The wait staff was attentive to refill the salsa and bring you chips. I ordered a burrito platter with shredded beef that was incredibly flavorful. My friend ordered the California burrito that was the size of his forearm and was loaded with steak, chorizo, chicken, bell peppers, rice beans and guacamole. In DC, where carne asada runs 22 bucks, it's nice to get away to a small town that has a decent Mexican place with reasonable prices. When I saw a yelp review where a woman decried that her wimp of a boyfriend could not finish the California Burrito, it became my mission in life to order it and finish it. When we pulled into the parking lot, I saw a license plate for Pennsylvania and said, wow! You know rhis place is good if that guy came all the way from Pennsylvania. I guess I was really tired ... But, then they brought out chips and salsa and we ordered a large queso, which was delicious and more than enough for two people. The Cali burrito was almost a foot long and filled with rice, beans, guac, sour cream, steak, chicken, chorizo and peppers. It was good but it was almost too much going on. Oh, and it was topped with enchilada sauce and more queso. I got halfway through and gave up to the gods of sodium who were telling me it was time to stop. read more

Visited 6.27.21. The food was tasty, well prepared. The service was ok not excellent. When I brought up the lack of cleanliness, I was ignored... So here's the expierience- As you pull up it looks like a dive bar, weeds needed to be removed from property and parking lot swept. As you walk in everything is sticky and grease covered. You could smell moldy wash rags were used on tables. Blinds/windows were dusty ceiling and fixtures looked like they were ready to fall. Floor and walls needed a good steam cleaning. I get it you serve tasty food but your establishment needs work. You were shut down for Covid, during that time you should have got ready for the upcoming tourist season by cleaning and painting. I do not plan on going back any time soon no matter how tasty the food was. If it's dirty in the public areas I wonder what is in the kitchen? read more

I really wanted to like this place after reading all the reviews and seeing the pictures people posted. We were super hungry when we got there. So we ordered the fiesta sampler. Which was a bit confusing because it included mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders. Which doesn't scream fiesta to me, but hopefully there is a reason for it but if you like that sort of thing than awesome. The rest of the sampler was ok pretty basic (flautas and a spinach quesadilla) My son ordered the California Burrito which he said was good, my husband ordered the fajitas and I ordered the enchiladas supremas. The fajitas were also cooked well. But my enchiladas, I was disappointed. My plate comes with a beef, cheese, chicken and bean enchilada. The chicken and bean were my favorite. The cheese was ok but the beef , I couldn't bring myself to eat it. I cut it open and all I could smell was oregano. Kind of like the smell of menudo. Sorry this is so long. I'm being generous with the four stars. I'll explain. We came here with a group of 10. It is a small restaurant for a big group like us but they accommodated for us well. The chips and dip were a bit of a disappointment but they grew on me and my fil. I thought they'd be better considering the reviews they got on here. I ordered the chicken fajitas for lunch. They were perfect. Exactly what I wanted and for only $7.95. They even had chicken tenders for $3.95 with fries for my toddler which were delicious. I recommended this place because of the reviews I read. And to my disappointment the other members in our party were not as pleased as I was. They mainly got the burritos. They said there was nothing special about them and they were small and just ok. So I have to give them 4 on my experience but am leaning more toward 3.5 because of the groups experience read more

Decent Mexican place while visiting Gettysburg. The service was great, but it seems that it while it is good for the locals, opinions may from a tourist's point of view. The grilled chicken and steak in our dishes were dry and lacked flavor. Most of the dishes we ordered were either too salty or just what you expect at a take-out Mexican place. Although the portions were decent for the price, I feel that some things, like the tortilla chips and the guacamole, are identical to its premade counterparts. However, the best thing that we ordered is the pineapple fajita, but everything else in that dish, as well as the other dishes that we ordered, were mostly apart from the overall rating it has. read more

We stopped here for a quick dinner. My opinions are mixed. The restaurant was busy, so they sat us in the side dining room. Not the best ambiance but very clean. Our server was prompt and courteous. We were given salsa and chips. The chips were crispy, but the salsa was nothing special and needed seasoning. We are in a Mexican restaurant I expected something spicy. Our food order was served quickly and piping hot. That is a big plus for me. My dining partner ordered the Enchiladas Verdes, and he was very happy with his dinner. The guacamole was fresh and tasted great. I ordered Fajita Quesadilla. I liked the guacamole, the sautéed onions, peppers and chicken. I did not like the sliced tomatoes that were sautéed with the mix. They turned to mush during the cooking process. Missing was spice, there was none. The rice served on the plate was dry and bland. Overview: Well-priced Mexican food that is super fast. Food: I have tried many items on the menu and have enjoyed them all. Everything has been well-seasoned and the portions are large. If you go during lunch, their specials are extremely cheap. Recommend: The Fajita Salad is great, as are the Huevos con Chorizo. The rice and beans are good, but I would avoid the tamales (they're typical pre-packed ones). Atmosphere: The restaurant isn't too large, so it can get fairly cramped, but it's bright and clean. Gettysburg gem for great food, great service, at great prices! I'm a regular at Montezuma's because of the variety choices and consistent quality of the food. Their chips and salsa are always fresh. My top favorites are the fajita burrito for dinner, and the chilaquiles for lunch. I would also recommend the Pick 2 option if you are looking to try a few items. They have great enchiladas and soft tacos. If you're looking to have a larger group for dinner (parties of 8 or more) I'd recommend calling ahead. I visited this evening while attending a course at the nearby Lutheran seminary. Just to qualify my review, I'm from Southern California where Mexican food is almost as prevalent as air. Montezuma has a warm, welcoming ambiance and was very busy when I arrived. I was seated at the last available table, a table for four, which I sensed the host was a bit dismayed about since I was alone. But he remained courteous and gracious, so all was well. Service was prompt, attentive and right on point. English is clearly not the first language of anyone working there, but it did not pose any sort of problem. As fast as I was seated a drink order was placed, and the obligatory chips and salsa arrived. The chips and salsa served as my first reminder that I'm on the other side of the country. The chips were clearly store bought and had been warmed up. I suspect the same of the salsa, since it lacked anything resembling heat or character. Very institutional on both. In California it's very uncommon for a Mexican restaurant to not make their own chips and salsa. I ordered the two item combination plate which comes with beans and rice. I opted for two hard shell, shredded beef tacos. Once again, my absence from California became clear. The food was decent, but nothing to get excited about, and it again lacked the slightest bit of heat or character. Very institutional. The taco shells were clearly store bought, and the beans tasted right out of a can. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about either. Prices were very reasonable. My entire meal, including 30% tip, came to $16. I will be traveling to Gettysburg off and on for the next several years, and I can definitely see trying Montezuma again. Great, family friendly place! Service was outstanding. There were many selections to choose from on the menu which is a bonus when you have picky eaters with you. Everyone was happy with their orders and the portions are just right. Not too OMG and not IS THAT IT?! Just right. You can probably request to up the spice level if you're game. I didn't because I know one of my kids would have not been happy. The other would be, however. I don't think they serve alcohol here, which is okay though I must say I was in the mood for a sangria or margarita of some sort. Oh well. Food was worth hanging out and enjoying nonetheless. Our second time visiting the area and our second time dinning here. The food was once again delicious and the service quick and friendly.

Excellent service, great prices, SUPER fast service in a cozy, well lit quaint restaurant. Servers were all attentive and extremely teamwork orientated, filling water for all surrounding tables if the other happened to pick up a dirty dish from another table.
