Dang good brunch!! My wife and I stopped in here while visiting New Orleans and grabbed brunch. We were sat immediately and service was quick. I had the fried chicken and pancake while my wife got the jambalaya omelette. Both were delicious. Coffee was good. This place was a pleasant surprise. We were hungry and has some places we wanted to go eat, but we had spent a long time trying to meet up with friends and everything was packed with waits. It was literally the best situation we could ask for in the moment. The drinks were so good (highly recommend the Bloody Mary here). I got the shrimp and grits, and it was delicious. We had lunch here and were able to share a meal plus add soups so we could all sample more of the menu. We all tried: jambalaya, chicken and sausage gumbo, seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, and Cajun sausage. My favorites were the chicken and sausage gumbo and red beans and rice. I had a tasty local brew with mine, but I don't remember the name. The space has seen lots of diners with the scuffed tables and floors, but it didn't look worn out or shabby, just comfy. I wanted to love this, TRULY I did. My son recommended this place to us and we made a special trip across the River to have brunch. The service was AMAZING, and the atmosphere was great but the food was mediocre at best. I will say though that the coffee was the best I think I've ever had and the King Cake beignets were absolutely delectable, definitely the highlight of the meal, but it went downhill from there. I had the Crab Cake Benedict, and my hubby had the jambalaya omelet. The first bite was okay but it went from okay to no way really quickly. The food was just over warm and tasted more like reheated leftovers than freshly prepared just for us. The coffee and beignets are what earned the 2 stars, and tbh I'm tempted to even give 3 because of just how amazing they truly were, but we were STARVING and left still hungry so I'll give it a 2.5 for now and maybe give it another chance in the future because their beignets really were that good. Second visit to Monty's, and I give it the same review as last time... five star. This time we had the lost bread breakfast, which is their take on French toast. It was challah bread, lightly fried similar to French toast and butter and cinnamon, and then topped with sweet cream and a light dusting of powdered sugar. It was the most delicious thing I ate the entire time I was in New Orleans and that saying a lot. My friend and I were ready to lick our plate when we were done. We each got a side of bacon as well that was thick and perfectly cooked. The service is always top-notch at Monty's and the price is a reasonable considering it's right in the middle of the French Quarter. A nice breakfast/brunch place right by Jackson Square. It was the first meal we had in NOLA and we enjoyed it. We sat by the French doors which were open in the morning and you were able to get a good view of the jazz band across the street playing at Cafe Du Mond. It was also a good spot to people watch all the folks going by on the street. It wasn't too busy when we went in but the service was a little slow at the time. I'm not sure if it is like that always but it wasn't too much of an issue and the food was still good so we weren't really bothered by it. We ordered the big easy benedict, the fried chicken benedict, and a cajun alfredo. The fried green tomatoes in the big easy benedict were tasty and I liked the fried chicken and gravy on mine. First off, their po boys are not on Leiedenheimer's French bread. Leodenheimer's is lighter than air. This bread was dry and more dense. If you get a po boy, ADD MAYO!! It was very dry, with not much shrimp. Fries and ice tea were good. Service was meh. Took the drink order dropped off the food and came back and asked if we wanted the check. Monty's is within walking distance (we were strolling while enjoying scenery, so it took about 15-20 minutes-lol) of the International House Hotel where we stayed for a couple of days. Monty's is spacious enough restauran, yet provides a quaint-like atmosphere & ambiance. There are wooden chair / table seating arrangements, some cool artwork, and a laid-back overall vibe, especially where we were seated at the bar area. There were so many great things to order that it was difficult for us to decide what we wanted to eat. However, we chose to split an order of pancakes, and we each had an order of cheese grits & bacon, and then we had to try the chicken and sausage gumbo. Everything was delicious! Huge pancakes (the picture that I took does not do it justice-lol) w/ powdered sugar on top, cheese grits, and bacon made to perfection and fabulous gumbo that tasted so good I do not want gumbo if it is not in New Orleans -lol. The cheese grits were amazing, and the side of bread complimented the chicken and sausage gumbo well. Stopped by for their famous Hurricane drink. They have little hooks under the bartop, and I had just purchased an expensive dress, which I was carrying in a shopping bag. My husband hung the bag on one of the hooks--and we accidentally left it behind when we left. We boarded a flight right after and didn't realize the dress was missing until we were already in the air. We called as soon as we could and offered to either pay for shipping or arrange for a carrier to pick it up. They took our address and kindly offered to mail it to us. We were grateful for their willingness to help. Fast forward three months--we never received the dress.
