A must go to if you either live in or vacation in the mid coast region of Maine. Operating for about 90 years the food is great as well as the service you receive. The Deserts they have a are something else. If you are a fan of pie then this a must stop place. My favorite of their pies is the peanutbutter cream pie. Had the honey dipped fried chicken, which came with a large chicken breast, thigh, and drumstick. The coating was crispy and not in the least bit greasy. Sometimes breast meat can be dry but this chicken was moist and full of flavor. The best part of Moody's is their homemade pie...has a nice slice of chocolate cream pie for dessert. Moodys has changed dramatically and in a bad way! Our family has been going there for about 50 years! We visited a few weeks ago and found TWO hairs on our plate the waitress was so embarrassed about it...then on a second visit as we cashed out at the counter, the cashier/hostess THREW HER HANDS UP IN EXASPERATION AND YELLED AT US when we asked for a particular kind of donut (plain sugared) to go. "We don't have any!! We never have!" she yelled. This would explain why there's no longer lines waiting out the door on weekend mornings! We will never return. read more

Wow ,what a place. Homemade donuts. Lots of dishes with blueberries which Maine is known for. Old style diner, well worn with lots of old fashioned ambiance. This is a diner, not fine cuisine. If you accept that, then you will be ok with the service and food. If, on the other hand, you heard about this in some travel show and thought it would be some sort of Disney World attraction, you will likely be disappointed. The staff is friendly, but too busy to be really attentive. The food is on par with any roadside diner. The building is pretty beat with counters, tables and seats showing no signs of serious upkeep for 50+ years. But, that's also part of the charm of this place. It's authentic. The staff supports the RED project, veterans stop to shake the hand of a serviceman in uniform and folks at the counter talk local politics and fishing (often the same thing here.) You will likely have to wait 15+ minutes for a table - longer if they are busy. Moody's does serve breakfast plates all day, and other than some of the great desert options, you should probably stick to the breakfast choices. Besides, pancakes and bacon for dinner is always a solid choice. read more

Our group of six senior citizens decided to try lots of Maine Blueberry Pie when on our way to and in Bar Harbor. We stopped just by chance at Moody's Diner and had their Maine Blueberry pie. Utterly charming diner serving food that meets the high-end of your expectations after reading their sign: "When I get hungry I get Moody!" Bizarrely, I had the best fried scallops I've ever eaten here. That's strange for two reasons: 1) scallops aren't local 2) you shouldn't fry scallops. I wouldn't even have thought it was possible to fry scallops without ruining them. Somehow, these were flawlessly - absolutely perfectly tender, yet had a crisp breading. Maine clams are "sweet," and lacking the mineral depth of other clams. Lots of them fit in your tummy. You will find many of them piled on your plate. The haddock is meaty as opposed to being flaky, and complemented a diner-y seafood trifecta by adding this variety in texture. This is, of course, the kind of seafood that pairs not with white wine but instead tartar sauce. Congruence adds a lot to an eating experience. Moody's neon sign, friendly booths, homey yet brisk service, and abundant well-prepared food made with zero pretense all sing together in harmony. We hadn't been to Moody's in years and with out of town company visiting we thought it would be the perfect time to give it a try again. We were seated promptly and our food was delivered quickly. Unfortunately the portions were quite small and everything was dry and flavorless except for a very soggy haddock sandwich. For the level of quality and portion sizes, the value just isn't there. The food was great and the staff was very friendly! I got the Bertha Burger: A 1/2 pound patty with cheese, lettuce, red onions, fried pickles, and thousand island sauce (all included). Very juicy and full of flavor, the patty was cooked to perfection and all the toppings were fresh. Easily the best burger I've had in a long while. The onion rings I got on the side were great too. The batter was crispy and fried to perfection, and didn't slip off the onions on top of that. Our waitress was very nice, and answered any questions we had. read more

The diner is full of friendly locals and has a laid back feel. The food is good. My sister ordered Berthas burger which was delicious and had fried pickles on the burger! I had pea soup which was not complex but simple, tasty, and warm. I feel that this soup describes Moody's diner perfectly. The crowd is mainly seniors and regulars. read more

The blueberry pie and blueberry muffin here are definitely 5 star all the way - all blueberry ev'rythang! The tiny size of wild Maine blueberries allow them to incorporate so many more with way more flavor than your standard sized blueberries. That, coupled by the fact that Moody's doesn't douse everything in a deluge of sugar results in perfect baked goods with intense natural fruit flavor without a sickening sugar rush. Definitely must try. Pie is probably better if heated, but tastes pretty fantastic cold from the pie case. Everything else here is mediocre standard 3-star diner food. Their blueberry pancakes, again, had great blueberry flavor, but they were otherwise flat and unremarkable diner pancakes. Coffee is pretty smooth for a quick and cheap diner cup of joe. Servers are a mix of really sweet old grandmas and pretty, young country girls that are friendly and efficient. Patrons seem to be a mix of loyal locals and tourists passing through - completes the authentic old school road diner experience. Pretty busy here during breakfast and brunch on a Sunday, so expect a wait. read more

The service was good but the burger was a pre frozen one. The fries were cold, the baked potato under cooked , the seafood platter terrible-it was made of finely cut,chopped clams and scallops ,heavily battered . The haddock looked like larger sized fish sticks. read more

Best diner food I've had, ever. Went here twice on our trip to Maine. Both times fantastic. Had the Rueben once and hot turkey sandwich once. Both great. Make sure to have their pie at least one time. It gets very busy so plan ahead or jump at the counter, if seats are open. read more

Moody's is one of those throwbacks to an earlier time. Old wooden booths, a telephone booth that they saved (very cool for us older folks!) and plenty of photos and stuff to look at. But we came to eat breakfast. Coffee was good! And the waitress knew to keep it coming - kudos to her! The rest of meal was OK - standard stuff. Unfortunately they advertised homemade corn beef hash and I didn't ask to be sure. Pretty sure it was straight out of a can. Also my eggs were on the cold side. BUT - it was all cooked as ordered and perfectly ok. Also, if you see donut holes for sale near the register, get them! I paid $1.69 for maybe 8 or 10 and they were yummy. They also had some real old-fashioned pies listed that I would've loved to try - custard, rhubard, walnut, etc. I would definitely stop again for the ambiance and those donut holes, just staying away from the hash next time. read more

It's not easy to find rhubarb pie - or pie plant pie as I like to call it, but they have it here. It's actual rhubarb pie, not strawberry rhubarb - which can be hard to find. The food here is pure diner food - but good diner food. There is plenty of parking and more pie than you could ever consume in a month. If you are looking for a good greasy spoon, Moody's Diner does not disappoint. If your'e not getting the rhubarb pie, might I recommend the gingerbread cake? FANTASTIC. read more

We tried this place for breakfast and we weren't disappointed. The food was good, my eggs were perfectly cooked, my Wife's meat omelet was stuffed with meat and also perfectly cooked. The mini potato pancakes could've used some garlic, but were otherwise pleasant to my palate. The service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was cosy. We'll definitely be back. It's loved because it's been around a long time and frequented by many folks who probably haven't been to a lot of places. You know, I am such a sucker for these little diners! I was recently up in Maine on business and stumbled upon this little nook on my way to my hotel. As soon as I walked in, it was exactly what I was expecting. They have table, booth and counter seating available. I opted for the counter seat. Menu is plentiful with traditional american food as well as a good selection of seafood. I ordered a steak and cheese with sweet potato fries. I have to say, it was one of the best steak and cheese sandwiches I've ever had! Just delicious. Oh and did I mention their selection of home made pies?!?! I ordered a slice of the chocolate cream and it was mmmmmmm! And lets not forget they serve breakfast all day AND night!! But one of the things I love most about these diners is seeing all the locals interact with each other and the staff. I stopped into Moody's Diner last week and it was delicious!! I've heard great things about the diner and seen bumper stickers. Finally I was in that area and could stop in! Very classic, cozy diner interior. Booths as well as counter seating, and a couple large group tables. Menu is pretty good for a small diner and offers all day breakfast, as well as home cooked dinners and lunch options. Me and my dad split a seafood platter and it had clams, clam strips, shrimp, haddock sticks, and scallops. Came with fries and coleslaw. For dessert I had a piece of frozen peanut butter pie, which was sooo good! The service is very friendly and our waitress was super. We also tried the fried pickles which were interesting. The diner's been open in various locations since 1927, and its reputation is great and known nationally. I'll be stopping in again, and I highly recommend anyone in the area stop for a bite to eat. Prices are very reasonable for a stop this popular. read more
