A cute little bubble tea shop with adorable decoration. I was out with a couple of friends and wanted a drink so I just ordered a rose tea and hopped off, but I think I'd really enjoy just hanging out in this place. It's not too spacious, but can hold a few people, and the decor is refreshingly cute. The staff were also smiley and friendly, and offered to upgrade my tea to the stubby cup, which I thought was super cute. But as I held onto it throughout the day I realized the diameter of the cup was too big for me to hold it comfortably for a long time. Not that I minded, of course. Just a realization. The tea itself was lovely, very aromatic, and the bubbles were great, chewy and sweetened just right. I came here with a friend when they had a Buy One Get One. There were only three options for the deal, Caramel Latte, Green Tea Yakult and Oolong Latte Float. We went for the medium Green Tea Yakult and the Oolong Latte Float with 30% sugar and less ice, which came to be just under $5. I had the Oolong Latte Float and I thought that 30% sugar was perfect, but I prefer my drinks to be not overly sweet. The tea flavor was prominent in the drink even though I wasn't expecting it too. It was also very creamy and smooth. I am not sure why it was a float though because there wasn't ice cream. It felt more like Oolong milk tea with whipped cream in it. Regardless though, we both favored it out of the two. I usually go for the green tea drinks without milk, but the Oolong was really good. The Green Tea Yakult was pretty tasty too. It had the flavor of green tea, but also the yogurty tang from the yakult. It was good, but I would still prefer the Oolong, but maybe because yogurt drinks arent my preference. One thing I did notice about the yogurt drink was that over time it does tend to separate. (It doesn't really affect the taste, but maybe because I have a little OCD, seeing the separation just makes me want to constantly mix it. ) Overall we enjoyed our drinks at PaTea. The store is super tiny, it sits maybe 6 people total (classic NYC!) What I loved about this place is their commitment to high quality drinks. If you're here, you have to try out the black and yellow and the passion fruit yakult! Make sure you ask for the tiny bubbles instead of the regular, it just flows so much better on your tongue! I also loved their designs, around the store and on the cups - super instagram-friendly. The guy making our drinks was also very nice; he spoke both Chinese and English and accommodated all of our questions and concerns! The bubble tea tasted AMAZING! It was large that became a free upgrade to a "stubby" which honestly can share about 2 people decently if you are not a heavy bubble tea drinker. They have several flavors I never heard of before which makes it exciting. The staff are not afraid to tell you if your percentage of sugar is too much for the drink (for all you sweet tooth people out there, like me!) Which is good if you want to focus on flavor. The storefront is super cute, pretty small with room for a handful of people, tuns of fun post-it notes on the walls, friendly/helpful staff and the bubble tea (Brown Sugar Oolong Bubble Tea) was delicious. Only regret was getting the smallest size, it makes sense to get the Sippy Cup which is larger and just $1 more. I love love love bubble tea. I think the biggest thing is that you really need to stand out from the rest in this field because there's just a surplus of bubble tea, and the tiny bubbles are it! There's a variety of choices so something for everyone. My go to is the milk tea with mini bubbles, occasionally I will grab a grapefruit paired with some lychee jelly. Either way still love both! I have once grabbed a stubby cup which is a super extra large to satisfy all bubble tea cravings. I did end up sharing because it was a bit too much, but rest assured, I can definitely finish this baby alone! Not much seating here, just a little window front area that you can people watch from, but I would recommend grabbing the drink and strolling down to Union Square to people watch or grab some other snacks in NYC! read more

Love that PaTea has joined the bubble tea patea at the 3rd Avenue L train stop - sidling up to Gong Cha (the worst location of the chain) and gross Vivi Tea across the street. PaTea is definitely the best of the lot, with free upgrades to stubby cups (adorable!), free colorchanging straw with Yelp checkin, and always solid milk tea and boba. Out with a couple of friends on a Friday night. There's four boba tea places in this area, like literally on this street. I don't really like Gong Cha and I heard Vivi's here isn't that good. Came to this tiny, tiny, tiny place. I got a mango slush. They let you choose your sweetness, ice, and size. The size is what cracks me up. You can choose M,L, or S. S? Shouldn't that be first? Small? NO! Here, it means "stubby." And it's basically a bowl of boba. Amazing. I love it. The space is small as heck, but if you love the smell of boba, it fills up the shop and warms you to your soul. So, so far I believe NorCal boba is better than New York boba, but PaTea was my last and best boba shop in my time in New York. My black milk tea had the strong tea taste that I had been craving for (the other shops I went to had put too much of the non-dairy creamer which overpowered the taste). I finally understood the NY boba lingo as well: "little ice" means they put no ice in and "less ice" means they fill half your cup with ice, haha. In the other boba places, my drinks turned out lukewarm when I asked for no ice. I appreciated that PaTea filters the milk tea through the ice so that the drink stays cold. I know there is a PaTea in Chinatown but never got to try it so I am happy to hear they opened a new location around 14th Street! I went in around lunch time and due to the space being so small, it was a bit cramp and "busy." I ordered the black and yellow milk (a little less than $6.00) since it's one of their best sellers. I got a mix of tiny and regular size bubble - to be honest, I recommend getting just the tiny bubbles for a unique "feel in your mouth." I also adjusted my sugar level to 50% since I do not like my bubble tea too sweet. The drinks were made pretty quick - I was in and out in 15 mins. Why party when you can PaTea? I had a late night craving for bubble tea and PaTea was one of the few places close by still open. I tried one of the recommended drinks, the Rose Milk Tea, with normal boba and 0% sugar and less ice. The bubble tea was super average. The rose tea only had a hint of tea flavor and was particularly milky. I would have rather just had normal black milk tea and the full tea flavor, despite the menu recommendation. The store itself is super cute, plastered in post it's with drawings and says and security camera footage warning against stealing from the tip jar. There's also a student discount which is dope. Not bad! I ordered the black tea ice cream which is pretty unique as far as bubble tea shops go, and the flavor was good but I have to admit it was pretty difficult to drink. The ice cream kind of hardens at the bottom of the cup, making it difficult to mix, but once you do get it mixed in it adds a creamy sweet flavor that you don't get with normal milk teas. The staff was extremely friendly and did not seem to mind when we took forever to decide what to order. We got the jasmine milk tea with lychee jelly and rose milk tea with boba. Both were really good, they have the good brand of lychee jelly here and the boba were well cooked! I got the stubby rose milk tea with 25% sweetness and with mini boba (they didn't have regular boba when I was there). The tea was great and the texture of the miniboba is so interesting. I was walking to the train station when I came across this small, but cute, bubble tea shop. I've always wanted to try one of those stubby cups ever since I first saw it a couple of years ago (not that they're any different, they're just really cute and purely for the Instagram aesthetic). They were having a promotion for a free upgrade from a large to a stubby cup and I was ecstatic. I ordered a large (but upgraded to stubby heh) passion fruit slush with mini bubbles. I forgot to get it with extra sugar (since I heard that their drinks aren't as sweet as typical bubble tea spots) so thankfully they hadn't created mine yet and I could tell them. They quickly fix the problem and soon after, I got my drink. It was so cute. The slush itself was pretty good and I have to say, I do prefer the mini bubbles to the regular sized bubbles since I didn't really have to chew on the mini bubbles in order to swallow them. I like the taste of tapioca balls but I hate the hassle of having to chew them so aggressively. My new favorite bubble tea spot. Got off five blocks away and contemplated just going home but today felt like a mango ice cream swirl kinda day so I made it there. I discovered this place months ago and tried the rose tea macchiato with mini bubbles. The macchiato was basically milk cap. Thought it was like the picture above the register, with syrup and whip but nah. I chose the standard 50% sugar level just to see how it was and I definitely should've upped the sweetness cuz it wasn't working for me. It wasn't enough to cut the strong taste of the tea. The mini bubbles was OK but nothing to rave about. I prefer the regular bubbles. Some come for the mini bubbles, some for the stubby cup, some for the tea selection. What reels ME in? ICE CREAM!!! I don't know of any other bubble tea spots with ice cream as a topping option so I like this addition. My next visit I had the mango green tea with bubbles, lychee jelly and ice cream. Soooooooo good. Definitely works for the warmer weather we're having as of late. My last visit I had the mango ice cream swirl. I've seen it on the menu before but didn't like that the only size is stubby, a little bigger than large. I usually do medium. But I ordered it anyway. It was difficult to sip because they use hard (vanilla) ice cream so all you get at first is the slush. But the cashier suggested to let it melt a little and I did that and it helped.
