Grabbed the rose milk tea, and the flavors were fantastic. I opted for their regular sugar level, which starts at 50%, and it was the perfect balance of sweetness and earthy, bitter, tea-ness. In comparison to other bubble tea shops throughout Manhattan, PaTea would constitute as halfway decent. Nothing particularly stood out despite the detour to Union Square to try the drinks. Prior to visiting the city, I bookmarked boba places. PaTea caught my attention due to its cute stubby cups and design. Although it was good, I would not go out of my way to consume it again. There are three different cup sizes - a small, large, and stubby. I ordered one of the top ten drinks listed, the Brown Sugar Oolong Milk Tea with mini bubble in a stubby cup and my boyfriend ordered the Mango Ice Cream Swirl with lychee jelly, which automatically came in a stubby cup. The Brown Sugar Oolong Milk Tea had a good flavor to it for it wasn't too sweet but wasn't completely tasteless at regular sweetness; however, the bubble was a disappointment. Despite the fact that I usually love mini boba, I played an internal game with myself to see how many I could avoid eating. Their texture was good; however, there was no flavor besides an aftertaste. The Mango Ice Cream Swirl was good; however, the ice cream was hard and made it difficult to drink. In the end, half of the cup was solely ice cream. Although there were a couple of groups inside, the cafe is REALLY small. There is only a counter and a few bar seats. The decor is cute and simple, but I wouldn't recommend large groups. It's more of a to-go bubble tea shop. Overall, it was a pretty average cafe. This is by-far one of my favorite boba places to go to. Although the store itself is quite small (can only fit maybe 6 people max inside), their boba tea makes up for it. I am a HUGE boba fan, not only do I love the tea, but also the actual boba. That being said, I'm a pretty big critic when it comes to the chewiness and consistency of the tapioca. PaTea's tapioca is the perfect amount of chewiness, not too soft, and not too hard. They also have a large selection of tea to choose from-from fruity tea to milk tea to tea with coffee. Their rose milk tea is one of my favorites, in addition to the fresh lemon kumquat green tea and the fresh grapefruit yakult. Some tips: I always get less ice and 30-50% sugar just because I'm not a huge fan of super sweet drinks, and if you're a student, you can present your student ID for a free upgrade from large to stubby. It's also always good to have cash. If not, they have a minimum purchase of $8 to charge your credit card, or a 50 cent fee to charge for anything less than $8. read more

Got here 2mins before closing time! (Yes!) I ordered my go-to passion fruit four season green tea 20% sugar, light ice with honey aloe stubby size! Most bubble tea shops would be out of teas right before closing, but they still had all drinks available. This place is their second location, original one is located in Chinatown. I was surprised that they still had four season green tea, as their original location have mentioned that they're discontinuing the four season green tea. But I'm a happy camper to get ahold of it before they have fully discontinued it. Their teas are freshly brewed every day! Many toppings to choose from and they're accomodating to how you like your teas. They can make it more/less sweet from their recommendations (even less than 30%). Seeing the other reviews below, I felt like this shop was a hit or miss for some people so I came in with low expectations and a little scared to risk to order a new flavor - so I went for the classic black milk tea medium (their smallest size) with boba. Ice, sweetness, etc. all standard because I was scared they would mess up my drink based on the reviews below. Turned out better than I had expected. I would give it a 3.5/5 if we could add .5 to our reviews. It fulfilled my boba cravings and would visit again since it's around my office. I just had to know what the little balls were all about. Now that I KNOW, I recommend getting both the regular bobas and the little ones. Texture wise they are identical but they are much more fun to swish around... Flavor wise the bubble tea was close to my favorite place in the whole city. After ordering our drinks--a Black and Yellow as well as a Grapefruit Yakult, both at 80% sweetness--we sat down at the counter against the wall and started looking for the best post-it message. Of course we made sure to leave our own mark on the wall! Our drinks were quite good. At the time they had a promotion whereby a Large would be upgraded to a Tubby. The tubby size is deceptively massive, but at the same time, its oddity is something I found unique and representative of PaTea. The bubbles were at that sweet spot between being rubbery and bloated, but most importantly they were flavorful. The grapefruit yakult, in particular, even had actual grapefruit bits floating through it which is already more than what most other bubble tea places can do. Ever since discovering the stubby cup in boba shops in LA, this is my first encounter with them in NYC. I tried the lychee black tea with mini bubbles which comes with 50% sugar. Since I have a bit of a sweet tooth, I think I should have opted for 70%. However, I enjoyed the tea very much anyway. This is also my first time having mini boba in my bubble tea, which was actually weirdly exciting for me. I've grown a new preference to this compared to traditional tapioca pearls thanks to Pa Tea. Aside from the tea itself, the store has a very welcoming vibe to it and offers a solid and refreshing alternative to boba chains such as Gong Cha and Vivis, which you see everywhere in the city.
